It get busy here. The best, best chicharrones in town. They had the best crunch and flavor. I loved each one of them. They sell them by the pound. I couldn't tell you how much that is because I didn't see a price. When I got the total bill for everything I thought it was a fair price for what i bought. The staff can tell you the price if you ask. They have a big variety of other things to order from. It's like cafeteria ordering style. You pay at the end. This was the ordering process. You stand in a line. You get your drink at the cooler and they have a good variety of drinks and beers to choose from. The next window you see is the holly chicharrons window lol followed by other food dishes, soup, and desserts. A staff member helps fill the orders for you in Togo containers. I decided to give La Casita Tropical a try after seeing countless posts online claiming they have some of the best chicharrones in town and an impressive selection of food options. The first challenge was parking. The restaurant is located on a very busy street, and finding a spot took some patience. I ended up circling the area and waiting several minutes for someone to leave before I could park. Once inside, I was greeted by friendly staff, which immediately made for a welcoming experience. They also have an entire wall stocked with cold beverages, offering plenty of options to choose from. For my meal, I ordered one pound of chicharrones along with a hot food plate that included carne guisada, arroz moro, and a beet salad. Unfortunately, the beet salad was spoiled. I didn't discover it until I got home and sat down to eat, so I wasn't able to return for an exchange. The carne guisada was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. As for the much-talked-about chicharrones, they were good, but I personally didn't find them worth all the hype I'd seen online. I was also surprised by the price. A pound of chicharrones and one hot food plate came out to about $38, which felt expensive for what I received. I wanted this to be an awesome rating because I've heard nothing but great things about this spot. Coming here myself today for the first time was not completely a negative experience but I walked out of there with a $70 bill that I thought was a bit pricey. Especially the chicharron, if you're going to charge $16 a pound at least include some lemon slices or something in there to make the price not waste so much. So the chicharrones are fantastic! Actually, everything we ordered was delicious. We had arroz con gandules,(pigeon peas and rice), rabo encendido (oxtails). It was all finger lickin good. The building lends itself to the ambiance. You're in line as if you're waiting to get on a ride at Disney. Someone comes over and passes out little morsels of deliciousness in the form of fried pork skins(chicharrones) just to tease you. When the pork is ready, they bring out a bull horn and announce it that way. The entire line breaks out in a grand cheer. Awesome! Prices are pretty decent for the amount of food that we got. The staff works very hard to take care of the long lines and give everyone the attention they need. Food is excellent, and you have quite the large selection. What an amazing place! I came to try this place with my husband, and we had a great experience. The line was literally out the door, but we were patient to wait for food and chicharrones. There's a separate faster line just for regular food only. The vibes are great and cheery in there. Every time they take out chicharrones and it's someone's first time, they do a loud cheer! The staff are very friendly, attentive upbeat and happy! One of the staff members passed out fried chicken samples to everyone waiting in the line. It was a nice treat and gesture. The food was delicious and fresh. They give large portions so we were able to buy one meal and split it between us. The chicharrones were FIRE...yes believe the hype! So good. We also ordered a sancocho to go to eat later, and it was delicious as well. There's a wide selection of beverages as well. Prices are reasonable and affordable. We would like to taste the oxtail next time as the cooking time was over 1 hour wait when we were there. Parking is a bit challenging as there are limited spots and also street/grass parking. But no big deal. You can get food fast as the food is ready to be served and packed away... so this is good for a quick pick up when you already know what you want. The food was fantastic not gonna take it away. It was empty during the lunch rush on a week day but a meal for two people came out to almost $45 but you definitely get large portions that will last you for lunch and dinner and then some. There's only a few seats for you to dine out front so I guess everyone just opt to take it to go now the queso Frito chefs kiss. The rice, pigeon, peas, phenomenal, baked, chicken, extra extraordinary, ordinary, and the prices. Outrageous places clean service is a little sketchy, but I guess that's just the Dominican sazon in the employees attitudes when you can't decide what you want with all their selections. There are usually huge lines here going outside and parking is an issue. There is a tire shop next-door that charges five dollars to park so he has a nice little racket going on. The food itself was pretty good and freshly made the best thing that we had was the fried chicken breast chunks. After that the pepper steak and the rope of Vieja which was just strips of meat not shredded. The tostones were a little thick but good. We had to wait an extra 20 minutes to get them I guess they are on high demand. The owner is there to greet you and take your order and walk you through if you are a first time person. They have a unique way of doing business and they assign you a person and he follows you all the way down the line and then hand you off to the cashier. The best chicharron I've had in a while. This is a small place, no place to sit inside and just a few tables outside. The line was long, but moving fast. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Chicharron is sold by the pound $16 to be exact. There is also all kinds of Dominican staples. The only downside was that the moro was burnt. Incredible service! This was our first time there, and the manager upfront asked if it was our first time and once we said, yes, he yelled out. Hey, we have first timers here and all the employees on the line cheered for us. It was very welcoming! We were asked if we wanted to try their famous Chicharron and that we could also sample any items that we wanted to. The manager went through every single item on the hot bar and let us know what it was and explain that they have a different menu every day. The place was spotless, clean and the food was steaming. I got stewed chicken, white rice, red beans and plantano maduro. My husband also got a side of their potato salad with beets. This place was so welcoming and the food was absolutely delicious. We've been wanting to visit this place and we got there pretty early. We definitely thought there would not be a big line to go in here, but they're definitely was! Certainly they are known for their Chicharron and it was very good. However, we didn't really try the other items on the menu except the rice and the plantains and they were just OK. I think we would go back just for the Chicharron, I just don't know how you would avoid that line. The good news is the managers came around and gave everybody samples as they waited. What I liked the best about my experience here is that the staff lets you try whatever you want. I tried chicharrón and arroz chaufa and they were both delicious. They also have a special when you buy 4 lbs of chicharrones, they give you 1 one free. I purchased 5 lbs of chicharrones, yuca with arroz chaufa and everything was delicious. I'm very picky with chicarrón and yuca and both were the best I've had. I did want to try el arroz con gandules but it sold out. I also tried their ceviche, which was good, but I usually prefer the more acidic ceviche. Their chile with carrots and onions was very tasty as well. Their horchata juice was also delicious and I forgot to take a picture of it before I drank it, rookie mistake. I also appreciate how much they serve you. There were some tables to sit on the outside, but it was so packed, I just took the food home. Overall, I absolutely loved coming here, how nice everyone was and how tasty everything was.
