Cutest little place, we didnt have a line to irder but I heard they get busy! little seating outside, but sit under an umbrella (because of the birds). I still think about this stuffed pistachio Croissant. If you can share things I highly recommend that! Next time I'm in Montreal I'll be back.
One of the last stops we made before heading to the airport was here at La Cave a Manger. We were taking one last stroll around Vieux-Montréal and looking for a little snack - so I whipped out my phone and La Cave came up as being close by. The reviews looked great, so we made our way over for some bakes. I assume La Cave gets its name from the fact that you are kinda entering a cave. The bakery is located in a basement surrounded in stone both on the exterior and interior. The bakery isn't large, but it's arranged in a way that foot traffic flows well. They have a good variety of bakes, though we were there relatively late in the day so some had already run out. Despite that, we had several to choose from. We decided to go with the ham and cheese croissant and one of their stuffed croissants. The former was pretty standard - there's wasn't a lot of ham but the flavor was there. The latter was one of those viral circular croissants that have been popular on social media; they had three flavors and I went with the lemon meringue. It was pretty good - it had a good ratio of stuffing to pastry and the lemon curd had a bright flavor. Service as good, the team was eager to help and super efficient. Overall, I had a good experience at La Cave a Manger - there are definitely some good bakes here and I wouldn't hesitate to return to try more of their menu.
Went here three times in three days and would go here every day for the rest of my life if I could. It was so good. I sprinted there on the last day to catch him before they closed. My favorite was def the pistachio but the strawberry was surprisingly amazing as well. The jam was so fresh and rich. All the creams oozed out (dare I say, too much yummy goodness?? Never) Absolutely amazing, hands down the best bakery we tried during our trip. Would fly back just to eat here again. Location: hidden away down a flight of stairs. Some indoor and outdoor seating. Near the water so you can go on a walk and sit along the waterfront!
Excelente panadería ubicada en pleno casco histórico de Montreal. El lugar cuenta con una pequeña terraza exterior que seguramente se disfruta mucho más en verano. Por dentro es un espacio pequeño, pero lleno de una variedad de exquisiteces realmente deliciosas. Probé el roll de pistacho y, sinceramente, es la primera vez que encuentro un lugar donde de verdad le ponen suficiente pistacho. En otros sitios apenas le echan una gotica, pero aquí sí se siente el sabor auténtico y generoso. Todo lo que venden se ve y sabe espectacular. Lo único que podría mejorar es que, cuando pides café, no tienen tazas de cerámica, solo vasos de cartón. Yo personalmente no soy fan de tomar café en vasos desechables, aunque debo decir que el café estaba bueno, solo que servido en cartón. En general, una panadería excelente, con productos de gran calidad. Sin duda volvería.
This bakery is on the north side of Rue St Paul in Old Port. From the outside, you can see their patio seating. The entrance is easily missed, but you just have to go down the stairs. The croissant is CAD$4, but it's quite a large size. It's very crispy and flaky! The chocolatine $4.50 was not bad. This one was so large too. The jambon cheddar $6.25 was ok; maybe it's better warmed up. They have an espresso menu as well. Service is good. You tell the guy what you want, and then you pay at the corner with the cashier. still thinking about our lovely breakfast here and missing this place already. We visited one early morning on a tuesday so it was still nice and peaceful. We went down the steps to a cozy bakery with a few seating inside and friendly staff. The pastries were made fresh and we got to enjoy a perfectly cooked smoked salmon sandwich, ham and cheese and fresh-out-the-oven pistachio croissant rolls! everything was sooo good! simple but quite satisfying for some reason. Outside seating is a delight if you dont mind cleaning up some bird poo a bit so you can sit comfortably. Overall we really had a great time. It would be nice to have the garbage bins moved to a location not by the steps though. But I get that maybe a "high-traffic" area would be best so the birds dont mess with it too much. if you stop by, definitely try their croissant rolls!! the pistachio one was just amazing!
A really lovely cozy spot. Despite having a small footprint the pastries and coffee pack a punch! They've got a lot of croissant varieties and I got the ham and cheddar. It was surprisingly filling and tasted well. I also had a bite of the chocolate almond croissant and that was great as well with a nicely sweetened moist interior. Service was prompt and they will warm up your pastries on request. There's a small seating area to enjoy your baked items at. I think it is also worth mentioning they have very collectible merchandise with a charismatic croissant mascot.
The bakery is located at the bottom of steep stairs, within one of the historical buildings in the waterfront area. The patio seating provides small and charming outdoor seating. The bakery has good coffee, a decent selection of baked goods, and good service. The pistachio roll is the star of the show. It's also self-service... so not sure why tips are requested at check-out and the place is overhyped IMHO.

You'll have to go down the stairs to discover a cute little bakery making different croissant shaped pastries filled with a tasty cream... AND they sell wine as well and pizza! I could live in this " cave " without a complaint But don't worry, you can enjoy your sweet or savory treats on the nice wooden patio on the street.
Wow, an absolute must for the carb seekers, the most amazing croissants, and just in awe of all the other breads and pastries they had. The servers were not super friendly but honestly I was there for the goods and they were worth the trip. Based in the basement area, the bakery is nothing fancy, but they serve all the coffee and tea drinks, and have seating outside with little tables for each person. We had issues with the wasps who loved our croissants too, but what are you going to do ! I ate every layer of my pain au chocolat, it was delicious. My friend had the ham and cheese croissant that was delicious too. They had pistachio and hazelnut chocolate croissants too. Too much to choose from! My dirty chai latte was the perfect morning pick me up, super creamy and strong chai flavor. So good. Highly recommend this basic but not so basic bakery.
Cute little cellar bakery and coffee shop. Quick service and great quality food. We had the Notre Fameux Jambon Beurre - white ham, 6 month old Isle-Aux-Grues Cheddar, New Zealand butter and French pickle "Gherkin" on our sourdough half baguette. It was delicious. We also tried the pumpkin spice marshmallow hot chocolate as well and I really enjoyed the brûlée marshmallow.

We came at a not very busy time, so the wait and service was not that long! Very small yet charming interior. We got two of the cinna buns, which were absolutely fantastic! For two it did cost around 20 dollars, but considering how good they were I would say it was well worth it! Be careful if sitting outside as there are quite a few birds on the patio, and one pooped on my head! Other than that, great place to stop and grab a quick snack! read more

Do yourself a favor and come here if you are looking for amazing coffee, decadent pastries, or both. The espresso here was incredibly rich and smooth -- one of the best cappuccinos I've ever had. I was really impressed with the drink, and only wish I had time to go back for another. Not to be outdone, the pastries were also amazing. The pistachio "roll" (a croissant-like circle with a seasonal filling/icing) was incredible -- soft, flaky pastry oozing with gooey pistachio filling. Be warned, you'll need a nap after one of these. They also had a salted caramel version that my friend tried, to equal fanfare. There were plenty of other bakery items, including plain croissant, cookie dough croissant, and a really interesting take on a cinnamon roll, called a "cinna grizzle" (pictured). My next visit to Montreal will definitely feature at least one stop here! read more
A croissant tastes better in the Old Quarter! Look for the yellow umbrellas at the end of the Bon Seceurs Marche. A delightful bakery with only outside seating, but it is a great spot to take in this part of the city. I am glad I went a second time because I prefer the plain croissant as it embodies all the characteristics I want. The ones with filling are a bit too rich and sweet for me. However, surprisingly the pastiche roll was a nice sweet option. Looks boring but trust me, The filling is velvety with a slightly crisp exterior. This is one of my top three spots for a croissant with the other two towards the Plateau. take a baguette home as well! read more

Quite possibly the best bakery I've been to in my life. For someone who goes out of their way to find the best pastry, I feel that this bakery is a step above. We visited three times during a few days trip to the area. The banh mi and pizza slice were so delicious and fresh. While I did not take pics, we purchased quite a few different croissants. The pistachio croissant was amazing as well as the red velvet. Everything was near perfect. Service was fine. For those who have mobility limitations, please note that you have to go down pretty steep stairs to enter the bakery. It is quite snug as well, a couple small tables inside but plenty of outdoor seating during good weather. La Cave is enough for me to make a several hour drive to Montreal worth it. I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys good food. read more

Tried the viral stuffed croissants. They were way too big and sugary for my liking. Way too sweet. I couldnt have possibly finish that thing in one sitting. It actually took me three sittings since the sweetness of the pastry was overwhelming. Had a few of them and it took forever to eat which is typically not a problem. Definitely a tiktok viral item that has been overhyped. Maybe get 1 to try but honestly I had no second cravings for this joint on my three week stint in montreal this summer. Located close to old montreal pier by parliament. read more

A bit hard to find, but totally worth it! We tried Almond croissant and red velvet croissant. They were great! A bit pricey, but that's just Old port for you. The service was quick and the ambience was cozy. Would highly recommend this! read more

I will probably be dreaming of the croissants from La Cave a Manger until the end of time. We got an assorted delivery of their croissants and pastries and everything was out of this world delicious. My favorite was definitely the almond chocolate croissant, the croissant was perfectly flaky and packed with melty chocolate. I'll absolutely be back the next time I'm in Montreal. read more

Amazing bakery with plenty of outdoor seating with shade at street level. Coffees and cold drinks available. Chocolate croissant eclair with salt was incredible, was kind of a Nutella like filling. If you come towards the end of the day around closing (I came at 7:40pm) they may give you an extra treat! Very nice staff. read more

YES! THIS WAS MY FAVORITE VISIT OF MONTREAL! The inside is small and cozy but man do their items pack a punch. The pizza, pastries, and coffee all smelled soo good! I was on the hunt for a special croissant and La Cave a Manger has it! The pistachio croissant is a DREAM! Crispy & buttery, with filling in the whole interior of the pastry. I wish I brought back a dozen! This place is a gem and should be a stop for everyone. read more

One of the best bakeries in old town Montreal. The setting, presentation and quality of foods is excellent. They are very generous with their portions and service as well! I ordered half beget of buttered ham/cheese. I didn't expect the amount of butter in the sandwich. When I asked if they can scrape the butter off, they instantly made a second one without butter and bagged the first one for me to go! Fast service and very nice young people behind the counter. read more
Two words - stuffed croissants. They're located in old Montreal right by the market down a flight of steps slightly hidden. The shop isn't super big and gets busy quick so be patient, but they have a little deck patio outside under umbrellas which is nice to enjoy your goodies! They're popular for their stuffed croissants but they have other options too, plus lots of coffee drinks. The stuffed croissants rotate flavors each day and they offer 2-3 per day. We tried the hazelnut cream and chocolate - both very tasty but the chocolate was really decadent and a little too much. The hazelnut was light and super delicious though. I really wish they had a vanilla bean when we were there because I feel like that would have been AMAZING. I just wish they were served warm - they were room temperature and I realize being warm would be difficult with the cream inside and they serve them all day but it would've made them even more mouthwatering. Also I wish they posted the day's flavors on social media or on their website ahead of time which would be helpful to determine whether to make the trip over there or not. read more

This IS the best place for croissants. We have been to many countries and many more boulangeries, and La Cave a Manger is TOP. Very friendly people, bilingual (at least) and other menu items to make a complete breakfast or lunch. Out of the five mornings we were there, we went to La Cave four times and regretted the one day we went to another well-recommended place for croissants. read more
