They have great tasting tacos for $2.50 on Taco Tuesday. They also have great salsas I've also had the Chimichanga, it was pretty good.

We came here as a large group, and unfortunately the refried beans were completely spoiled. We informed the staff, but the only response we received was "OK," with no further action taken. I understand that mistakes can happen at any restaurant, and we all know that no place is perfect. However, when something goes wrong, the proper response is to take responsibility by offering a refund, removing the item from the bill, or providing a credit for a future visit as a gesture of accountability and apology. As customers, we don't simply say, "Thank you, the food was great," and walk away without paying. We pay because we are receiving a service. In the same way, when part of that service fails, a simple "sorry" is not enough. A better response would be something like, "We apologize, we will take the beans off your bill," or "We would like to offer you a credit for your next visit." Taking care of customers when something goes wrong is what builds trust and encourages people to come back. read more

Not as great as it use to be. Food is cold when served, the order of chicken wings are brought out hot but still cold on inside. Rice & beans served with orders are usually cold or room temperature. I was working nearby for the week and this was the closest place I could sneak away for an unofficial lunch. I've passed by this place a hundred times and always thought it was an eye catcher before catching the 17. They have a small parking lot and I'd suggest eating inside. The first time trying here I got a chimichanga because that's literally what the restaurant is named after! Door dash told me it would be ready quick so I went in for my order and ended up waiting an extra 5-10 minutes. Not a big issue because it was still reasonable timing. The chimichanga was huge and I wish I woulda shared it but the flavor made it easy to devour the dish. The orange sauce is a must, not even optional it makes everything that much better. My second time ordering here wasn't as amazing. I waited a bit longer for my food to be ready and I didn't wait at all when I got there. I have to mention the staff is very friendly and nice. I usually order al pastor wherever I go but in Mexican restaurants I suggest trying a taco of each meat to see what their strengths and weaknesses are. I got lucky with Chile Verde but the al pastor was a risk that missed its mark. The quesadilla was on the greasy side which I'd normally never complain about. However, the cheese and grease overpowered the meat flavor and I couldn't look past it. I honestly didn't finish my dish but I'm glad this wasn't my only experience because they still get a strong passing grade from me. My coworker said the steak/asada tasted boiled and didn't have much flavor. If I have to put my name next to something, I'd say the CV chimichanga is solid. Other than that, you're on your own. So, for an order at the counter, but doesn't really seem like an authentic Mexican Taqueria (they do have a drive through after all) vibe, I was pleased. Point 1 in their favor: They have large margaritas in large margarita glasses - and like, that's important. Point 2 in their favor: Large portions. Very. No one is going home hungry. Point 3 in their favor: and perhaps the most important point - their meat was really tasty. Carnitas, Pastor, and chicken all killed it. And this really may be the most important measure of Mexican food (except for maybe point 4). Point 4: Sauce was decent. Didn't blow me away, but was decent (sauce is very important). Point 5 in their favor: they have ranch dressing in case you have a toddler who needs to have ranch dressing with everything they eat. Point 6 not in favor: Chips were lacking (both in quantity and quality). Quick service. Kinda weird almost fast food vibe, but better food than fast food. Wait period is between 10-15 minutes. Food: they have a wide variety of Mexican food. Chimichanga Asada: Served on a wooden cutting board. Flaky with all the crispiness that a chimichanga should be. Meat could use a little more flavor but overall well balanced. Scott Valley Burrito with Asada: This is basically a wet burrito. Just like the Chimichanga, the meat could have had more flavor and they could have cut back on the rice just a touch. Other than that, it was a really good wet Burrito. Baja Taco: Hot damn, this puppy was good. Batter Cod dressed in guacamole and chipotle sauce. Fish was cooked perfectly and the crispness made the first bite a joyful event. Began talking to the person in front so not really paying attention to the food in front of me, until someone at our table complained about their order. This is my go-to spot for tacos and a draft beer in Scotts Valley! I still call them habaneros as that's how I remember them but la chimichanga cantina stepped it up a notch. Recently they started offering free black bean dip made with chipotles with your meal, it's awesome! Those who know me know that I have always hated beans but these are so tasty they made me a believer! Quesabirria! Yes they have them here and they are awesome! They dip the corn tortillas in the birria "juice" (actually grease) and then load it up with birria, cheese, onions and cilantro and grill them till they are crispy and gooey and fricken rad! Served with a cup of the birria consumé to dip in it's a real treat. Baja fish tacos are also great with fried fish topped with a pile of guac and chipotle sauce. Another favorite of mine is the breakfast burrito with chorizo, very tasty! If you have never had a Huarache, you definitely should try it. It's like a Mexican pizza but it's on a large hand made masa base. Carb overload and way too much food for one person but once in a while it's worth the splurge! I will say that the burritos are a couple bucks more than the other taquerias in town and they are all rice so not the best value. I stay away from the burritos and it keeps me happy. Full bar with a nice draft beer selection keeps me coming back for more. Give'em a try! read more

We were not impressed the first time we came here (last year.) My husband got the chimichanga and I got the steak fajita plate - huge portions! However, per the hubby, the chimichanga was too greasy and the taste was just okay. The steak fajita was good but not enough for me to want to come back (I always end up going to Los Gallos when I'm in Scotts Valley.) But my hubby always wanted to come back to try the micheladas. So last week, on our way back from Costco we decided to stop by for snacks and drinks. I believe 2-6 happy hour everyday! Amazing. We got the taco plate and super nachos to share and two super micheladas for $50. Again, huge portions but this time was a better experience (perhaps the michelada helped?) Tacos were tasty but nachos were only okay. Not really a child friendly restaurant since their beans and salsa were a tad too spicy for our daughter, she ended up not eating anything but she got her dance on with the outdoor music. Now, the micheladas, hands down one of the best we have tasted. It looked amazing and the flavors were on point! Stopped by on a late afternoon. It was after 2pm so not a lot of people around which worked well for me :) Food arrived under 15 mins and delicious. Serving size was just right. We ordered chimichanga and chicken burritos. It wasn't super spicy as I prefer medium heat. Our wait staff was friendly and courteous. Also ordered the house margarita which was a good decision. Not what I would consider a sit down restaurant. The food and drinks are fairly priced, and the employees are hospitable. I had a tostada which was delicious, as was the carne asada taco. I've been wanting to come check out La Chimichanga for so long. Who knew that such a large and tasty Mexican restaurant would exist in Scotts Valley? What drew me here was their extensive vegan friendly menu. They have an entire section dedicated to vegan dishes which includes vegan cheese, sour cream, and refried beans. It's usually hard to find Mexican restaurants that will go out of their way to make refried beans vegan, so I was so stoked to try this spot out. My friend and I tried their Vegan Nachos and the Potato Flautas. The nachos were decent enough and they loaded it up with a lot of guacamole and sour cream on top. The flautas were my favorite of the two - the deep fried potato rolls were perfect and combined with their pico and spicy sauce, it was delicious. I wasn't a huge fan of their guac but it was still great nonetheless. For those that enjoy boozing, their cantina is well stocked with plenty of beer and hard liquor. I saw a share of tequila options available and their drinks seemed very reasonably priced. Service here was very friendly and they were attentive to our needs especially helping to make sure that options were completely vegan. I'll have to come back someday to get their massive burrito that I see in photos. I mean, you gotta look at the size of that thing! read more
