This place is indeed heavenly. There are 9 of us visiting San Francisco from San Antonio, TX. Today two of us are celebrating a birthday and we decided to rent a van and go exploring. Came here with hubby and our big pup on a Saturday for brunch. There was a small crowd waiting for a table but we waited ~20 min. Sat outside (it was a nice day) and our server was Mayra. She was great! Brought out a bowl of water for our pup and was friendly and attentive. We got the John Wayne burger and crab cake Benedict. They were delicious. Love this place. I can say it can be a hidden gem. It is family run business and has been around for for decade. They serve American style dishes which you will find at most of American Diner place. We arrived for brunch/lunch and it was busy that time. They have indoor and outdoor sitting and we chose outdoor. It was nice sitting area where you can freely speak. We order Benedict's Place, Don Juan Salad, just two eggs, potato and taost, extra bacon and chicken fried steak. the portion is good and price wise, they are reasonable. The food was yummy. A great find on our vacation when we needed a breakfast spot on the way to the Santa Cruz area on a Tuesday in June. We were seated right away and the food came out super quickly. The service and food was great. Reminded us of a restaurant we frequent near home - even the dishes were similar. I had the loaded potatoes which were delicious. My son enjoyed his omelette. My family and I were visiting Santa Cruz and Big Sur over Labor Day Weekend. Heavenly Roadside Cafe is a popular place. We arrived around 10 am and waited about 10 minutes to be seated. We ordered the following items: huevos rancheros (9/10). The sauce was tasty! The short stack of pancakes was amazing!. The Rico Suave burger with a side salad, 8/10. Last but not least, the cab sandwich and bacon with fries. 9/10. The service was excellent, and the staff was friendly and helpful--plenty of parking available. It's the perfect mix of crunchy edges and soft texture in the middle with a blend of cinnamon spices. Ate brunch just after noon on Friday. Parking is tight. There are a lot of spaces and they are pretty full. There's a line for seating. Had a 40min wait. There were perhaps 9 empty tables but they lacked the staff to use them? (They are advertising for help for 4 positions) There are only two restrooms, one of which is women only. The restroom was messy with the waste bin overflowing and towels on the wet floor. Service was ...somewhat sketchy. But the food we ordered was served hot, and it was outstanding. I had the Bronx scramble. The 'roadside potatoes' were properly cooked and flavorful. The sausage was cut-up links that was among some of the best I've tasted. Wow! The scramble includes fresh spinach which was outstanding. It was cooked but still had a very slight crunch which allowed it to give up its awesome flavor. I would order this again. Coffee was in-your-face French roast! Served with a small pitcher of cream, for good reason. GF had The Godfather, 2 big pancakes, properly cooked, scrambled eggs and sausage links. This is what happens when a restaurant serves great food! Wait lines and crowded parking. Inside is quite noisy since the bare walls really reflect everything. read more

We hosted a post wedding brunch here after our wedding at Waterfall Lodge. Marty was so lovely to work with in helping us set this up! They were able to stay very flexible with our group, which ended up being around 30 people, which was very helpful for putting this together fairly quickly only 2-3 weeks before the wedding. It was a fantastic way to have a bit more time and connection in a way that is a lot more relaxed than during the wedding, with our guests, a lot of whom had flown in from a bunch of places. I would highly recommend for other couples looking to do similar events! The food was absolutely perfect! All of our guests were very happy with it. There was more than enough for everyone to share and take some home and the buffet style serving worked out perfectly. It gave us lots of energy for the busy day of travel and packing we had ahead. read more

This is a cute cafe literally on the side of the road. I felt transported to a small town in the Midwest when I walked in. The service was great. People were friendly and attentive. Food came out fast. And they served breakfast dishes all day, so my friend and I both got breakfast for lunch! The portions were huge that I had to take part of it home. We even got their special lemonade with mango purée, which was perfect for a hot day. I knocked off a star only for the lack of A/C and decor, but those items are pretty small. While visiting Santa Cruz, we discovered Heavenly Roadside Cafe while looking up breakfast places. Such a hidden gem! I ordered a belgian waffle with fresh fruit and it was so crispy and buttery! The fruit was all fresh and delicious. My boyfriend ordered an omelette with bacon and avocado with potatoes on the side. It was a great portion and he liked it a lot! Omg...WOW! My wife and I love to go out to breakfast. It's totally our thing. With that said, I can't believe we've never eaten here! I don't know where to begin. With the first bite, I couldn't wait to come back and try more. I love to research yelp and I was ready for this place. I enclosed a picture from my food research journal. First off..they give you a lovely glass bottle of water for the table. My wife and I ordered coffee. Amazing coffee!!! So bold and not a tad bitter! After the first sip of coffee, I knew this was going to be a treat. I ordered the Portuguese omelet. It came with potatoes and I substituted toast for a biscuit and a side of gravy. The omelet was incredible. I gave a bite to my wife and she said it was "like fireworks in your mouth"...That's totally my opinion! The potatoes were perfect. The biscuits was lovely and the gravy was next to perfect. Everything was so fresh. My wife had the classic eggs ben...they definitely don't skimp on the fresh hollandaise sauce. She loved it. We walked away feeling full all day, but not "food coma" tired. We talked about how wonderful the food was all day. I can't wait to go back and try more. Giant onion rings! Blue Cheese Fries! Homey vibes! What else could you ask for? My boyfriend and I went around noon on a Friday, so it wasn't packed. We got seated pretty quickly, got our orders in and just enjoyed the overall feel of the place. Our plates were huge! He devoured his, and I took half of my sandwich home. For our 1st time here, we tried: * Crab Cake Salad - The 2 Maryland style crab cakes were awesome. Good size, fresh & tasty, minimal filler. Over a bed of fresh mixed greens salad with citrus slices, lemon vinaigrette, side of toasted sourdough. We'd come back for this one. * Huevos Rancheros - Eggs, black beans, salsa, light sprinkle of shredded cheese, over lukewarm corn tortillas. Nice fresh avocado slices on top, served with a side of breakfast potatoes. Perhaps a side of Mexican-style rice would have been more appropriate.
