My friend & I stumbled upon this charming family-run restaurant in December 2025 & it was our favorite dining experience of the whole trip. Don't be fooled by the modest appearance, the food is top notch! It is a casual environment with tables in the back in an open air but covered courtyard. You will not find fresher seafood or more authentic dishes anywhere on the island. Diego, the chef-owner, and the rest of his team were so kind & welcoming. It was like eating at my favorite uncle's house. I am an avid and enthusiastic eater - fish tacos & ceviche are two of my all-time favorite foods and these are the absolute best I have ever had. Incredibly fresh, full of flavor, & generous portions at very reasonable prices. The guacamole was also very tasty. I look forward to returning during all my future visits to Cozumel.
Good food but kinda high prices. One of the people I was traveling with really wanted some fresh seafood and specifically ceviche. We found this place on Yelp and went to check it out. The place looks like a seafood market from the front but you enter to the back and there is a whole outdoor dining area with plenty of chairs and tables. It can get really warm on hot days but they have a bunch of big fans. We weren't super hungry so we shared a large guacamole and a large seafood ceviche grande. The guac was really sour/lemony but in a good way. I enjoyed it. The seafood ceviche had all sorts of seafood, including fish, shrimp, octopus and other goodies. The seafood in it tasted fresh and was delicious. The order was big enough for 3 people to share. We ended up paying about $80 which I thought was rather pricey for just some guac and ceviche to share. The ambience was super casual and nothing fancy. The service was cool. It is good seafood but just know it's on the pricier end.
Great spot for fresh ceviche. Several fishes and super fresh. We did the ceviche large as that was our craving for dinner. Cute place. Clean. Nice table set up. Cervesa and mixed drinks. We did Tecate Light. Good service. Lots of menu choices and we saw many selections pas by our table. They all looked and smelled delicious. We were here couple years back and recalled how fresh it was. Quality for sure!
Guac was sublime. Perfectly sized granules of avocado, each filled with a harmony of flavor. Ceviche was fine, a little too heavy on citrus which was used to freshen the scent of the fish. It just felt too wet, and not enough umami. Also got the whole fish which had a perfect crispy skin. The fish was not the most flavorful, which was too bad because they purposely didn't use a lot of seasoning/sauce. Price for 2: ~$25
pescaderia San Carlos is a must visit every time we go to Cozumel. The conch ceviche is the best you will ever eat. The guacamole and pico are really good, but the main reason we go is to get the whole fried fish. Love going in the kitchen and picking out the snapper or grouper to feed our group. Service is always fast and good. Sometimes there is live music. Check it out....you won't regret it.

Service was amazing, food was the best ever. They even have lobster and it was too 3 lobsters I've had. Fish tacos are the best that I've had in my life! Nothing compares to them. I travel a lot, have tried food from all over the world and these are the one I always talk about when a conversation about fish tacos come about. Ceviche was outstanding as well. We trie to eat here 3 time before we succeeded and it was worth the wait! We always got there a little too late (given less traffic from pandemic and Christmas time). We got fish tacos. Fish sticks, and whole fried fish. Super delicious and this will be our first meal when we come back to Cozumel. The fish was fried to perfection and the slaw was delicious. We also ordered conch appetizer that was garlicky delicious!

I followed with the fresh fish cooked with tomatoes and damn it was delicious. If I make it back to Cozumel, This is the first place I'm going. Its a little off the beaten path, but it is completely worth it. I Actually started an account to spread this restaurant's praise.
We visited this local place based on a number of a number of recommendations from locals. They were spot on!! They have been open for 25 years for a reason. They have fresh fish and serve it with flavor. I had an entire fried fish that was delicious and fresh. They have a full bar and a beer selection as well. It's not off the beaten path and worth a visit if your looking for local fresh fish. They also have delicious ceviche as well and was incredible. Overall a must try if you want great fish and great prices!!

This place is delicious!!! It's well priced and extremely well served. The fish and shrimp taste fresh and the flavoring is amazing. The fried fish was truly out of this world. It tasted freshly caught and the breading was light but flavorful. The ceviche had an amazing depth of flavors and again tasted super fresh. The fish tacos were to die for with hand made tortillas and were delicious! The horchata is the most authentic one I've tasted in a long time and the lemonade was amazing too! Simply a fabulous lunch! 25 minute walk from Norwegian Cruiseport. Friendly! Love music at lunch and great margaritas and cold beer. We got the whole fried fish and ceviche. Along with guac and some chips and a flavorful verde. Just great. Please go. You will thank me. read more

This place is a must stop every time I visit Cozumel. The ceviche is fantastic but I tried the whole fried fish this time and it was great!! It's a little off the beaten path but worth the trip for sure. read more

Cruising around town and popping into the local little spots trying different tacos, somebody yelled "hey" as we were slowly rolling by. "The best" he claimed. Usually that kind of salesmanship would keep me moving, but decided to give it a try. So glad we did. We had already been to 4 other places, so we could only stomach one order of tacos, but they were the best fish tacos we had that day. They also gave us a little plate of fish ceviche that was delicious. Highly recommended. read more

Amazing Fried fish. I am posting on a Fish Taco high. My daughter, who is among the pickiest of eaters, inhaled 2/3 of a grouper before coming up for air. Guacamole and the sopa se pescado are good, but go directly to fried grouper. read more
Anthony Bourdain would Be proud! This is a cute little authentic Mexican restaurant that our taxi driver introduced us to. We wanted to get away from the tourist area which was highly expensive and exploitive overall; Cozumel thrives on tourism but if you want an authentic taste of Mexico you have leave the beaten track. We were lucky enough to eat here at San Carlos, and most of all we met Carlos. Everyone in the family works in the restaurant, and seem so happy about that! They have a local live band at 4pm, and most impressively they have fresh catch straight from the Ocean - pick your own fish delicioso! These people are real and they love to make food, you immediately taste the love. They are welcoming and highly appreciative of compliments to their cuisine. It's real, it's raw, it's the Mexican soul beyond the tourist gimmicks. Above all it is so reasonably priced. It helps if you know a little spanish, but they will still greet you with a big smile and start the "show and tell" version of the menu haha! They have wifi, just ask for the passcode. We started with the salsa, tortilla chips and ceviche. It was so fresh and bursting with flavor. We seconded that with fillet of fish, garlic-ed up and fried in bread crumbs. Then was the fish you see in the pictures, caught 2 hours before, carefully seasoned and served with cabbage salad, rice and lime - unbelievably delicious food from a hole-in-the-wall. These people are the kindest, most generous human beings who love what they do in the simplicity of preparations, but the flavor is beyond words. If you go to Cozumel it is worth facing you're preconceptions and fears and venturing off the beaten path to this little backstreet family ran gem - they deserve your business so much more than that drunken dive señor frogs. Make it the experience you wanted from Cozumel, eat good, eat genuine, eat loving food. read more

We ate here on Sunday afternoon the conch ceviche is beyond amazing and of course the fried fish with garlic was incredible you pick your own fish- was dirt cheap to. I guess they're not that many reviews on this place because they don't wanted to become overly populated with tourists why even the cabdriver tried to take me someplace else and told me that this wasn't a good restaurant boy was he wrong. I could see why it's a well-kept secret. . read more

Best authentic Mexican food I've ever had! It's a must we eat here whenever we're in Cozumel!! I had the garlic conch and we were given complimentary ceviche. My Lord! They were both so tasty I can't remember the other dish we had. My husband had the snapper and let's just say he enjoyed it so much I couldn't get a picture. read more

Absolutely the best fish tacos I've ever had. They take USD and Pesos. Pay in pesos if you want to save a little. Really local spot and a great atmosphere. Got sat right away and everyone was really friendly. Was served chips and salsa verde (really spicy) and given menus. Ordered the fish ceviche, the fried fish place, and the fish fillet plate. Huge portions served with tortillas to make tacos. Wow everything was just amazing. Like, wow! Bill came out to be like $25 USD, not bad at all. Would definitely recommend and definitely come again! read more

This was the best seafood I had all week! I will never come back to Coz without coming here for a meal. Great service neat atmosphere - no a/c but plenty of fans going. Make sure to bring an appetite! We had conch in garlic and the Mexican Fish filet and a small cirveche. read more

This place was the highlight of our 2 week trip. Amazing Conch ceviche, fried fish and guacamole. Wait staff were all very friendly. Awesome ambiance dining in the back courtyard. They played live music for us as well. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

This place has the best fish tacos I've ever had. It's a little crude for those who may be concerned but appeared clean for what they were working with. The staff was friendly and they accepted USD. I would have loved to dine in but my wife had no interest to stick around. read more

If your in in town, And you like fish, don't miss this place. Small local place off the beaten track. Excellent lobster cheap. Lots of local flavor. The whole fish look outrageous . I'm going to go back to try it. Bubba says check it out. read more
