Carry out order placed. Arguably the best hot and sour soup in Monona or in most places especially the Midwest. 100% excellent. Beef fried rice? Superb. Orange chicken? Flavorful. Perfect. So. Why 4 stars? When you order sweet and sour chicken you expect a balance. Or. At least. A presence. We got fried chicken. No sauce. None AT ALL. Come on.... What you do to completion is perfect. But you failed solidly with such a basic thing. If you filled the order and one out of four entrees sucked you'd still get 5 stars based on how great everything else was. Referred by a friend, I gambled to try a new Chinese restaurant. To say I was disappointed was an understatement.. I ordered Kung pow chicken and a side of shrimp fried rice. I had two completely different experiences with each dish. The Kung pow was greasy to the point, the metal pan that the dinner came in, had a quarter inch (yes I measured) of oil. While the quantity of food was reasonable, the flavor was not Kung pow, it had no spice, it was greasy, to the point where I drained the dinner in a colander and watched the grease run out into my sink. Do not think this restaurant is Chinese, wallet, advertises, Chinese food the quality is so poor and the flavors are not on target. I will not come back. Speaking to the couple that I was with, they have tried three times. The first was good. The second was greasy the third was even more greasy. It's sad to say the chef has a heavy hand with his oil. The shrimp fried rice was good, but still a little greasy, not as bad as the Kung pow. Overall, I give it a zero out of five. read more

This new place opened just up the street from us so we had to give it a try after we saw an article about it in the local paper. We just popped in to order since we had been out running errands. We ordered "to-go" so we did not dine-in. Really this is not a dine-in place with just two tables in a somewhat barren space. The menu is large but not like some Chinese places that have dozens of pages of items. Makes choosing what to eat a bit easier. Many great choices. The order came out with just a short wait. My standby and a good test of a Chinese restaurant is General Tsao's chicken. Theirs was very good - the sauce was sweet and hot and not too gloppy. Broccoli gave this dish the illusion of it being healthy! The serving was a good size for the price. My wife got the Singapore Mei Fun with shrimp & chicken which was very tasty and with a bit of heat. I have a hunch this place will be very popular so try them now! read more

So, I've never had Chinese food cooked by Mexicans... holy smokes.. these folks got it together. I enjoyed Taste of China, but the new owner/chef has changed and tweaked recipes and I think it's considerably better! More flavor, more intense flavors, and everything is always steaming hot! We ordered a dinner meal for pickup. We got home and NO RICE. I mean how do you forget rice when you order ONE THING? Well we called on phone and apparently they knew of their mistake. Their answer was for us to come get the rice! We AGAIN drove out there ! And she says "I am sorry" but it would have gone a lot further if she had offered us something - a can of soda, eggroll, coupon off future order, something. I mean that is pretty bad to have to drive out there a SECOND time to get what we already paid for. I had even given her a tip and it was only after we left it occurred to me I should have asked for my tip back when we picked up the rice. Additionally it was also very greasy, which Chinese food is known for, but it did not help that it was of course COLD by the time we got home the second time. Loved it! First time here, ordered take away. I got the lunch special with beef and vegetables, I asked for it spicy. Great mix of veggies, and very flavorful with good heat that wasn't overpowering. Loved that there was an option in the lunch special to have 2 wontons, I really like them. Next time I'll ask for white rice instead of fried rice. I also got wonton soup for later. I saved an opening announcement for this restaurant but forgot about it until I found it with my recipes recently. We really enjoyed the dumplings and Happy Family dish we picked up Thursday. I like dumplings and so often suspect what I get was bought frozen. Not the case here. Wrappers are thin as opposed to thick and doughy. Filling is tasty and includes a range of ingredients. If you live on the East side or Monona, give these folks a try. It's kind of standard Chinese delivery, so if you want real soy sauce you should have some at home. The crab Rangoon are basic and kind of small, not bad but not great either. Get a bottle of Mae Ploy from Asian Midway to dip these in, because the sweet and sour they send is kind of basic, too. No big one to me, though- I have all my sauce bases covered. You should see my fridge... ;) The Ma Po tofu has no meat in it (usually has pork but I am A-OK without it!), and the fried dumplings could have been a little more... stuffed. Ordering over the phone was easy, and they take credit cards. Delivery was within 35 minutes and it was super nice and hot. I will be ordering again. The food is disgusting. Fried rice is literally rice soaked with orange grease. Egg rolls are soaked in oil. Almond chicken looks like canned chicken with tons of celery and waster chestnuts with some nuts thrown on the top. No flavor at all. Pet food would be a better option. read more

Having work to do for my client, I decided that I would order food to be delivered to my room and chinese food sounded great! I ordered General Tso's Chicken, a small Pork Lo Mein, and the fried dumplings. I thought I was in for a treat as I don't often get the chance to have chinese food. Little did I know, that the food about to be delivered from Taste of China @ 5415B Monona Dr, Monona, WI was horrible. The chicken smelled a little different, but when i tasted it I could tell that it had been left out on the counter for hours instead of being in a cooler prior to preparation. The pork lo mein was OK, so I ate some of it and the dumplings were edible. The next day, I was sick all day. I called the resteraunt and complained when I got back to the hotel and they offered to replace my order. No way was I going to go for round two of the food poisoning game. Where's the beef? I decided to try the Mongolian Beef, At first look I was impressed with the portion size of the dinner, as I was planning on having leftovers for supper. My fella and I just did delivery from this spot and from that one experience alone they take top marks for Chinese places that deliver. We got crab rangoons (free with coupon), wonton soup, general tso's tofu and Mongolian beef which both came with steamed rice. The crab rangoons were tasty and come in a package of 8 with a sweet sauce. A very plentiful freebie although the sauce is not my thing. The wonton soup came with 3 hefty dumplings and was flavored with a large slice of ginger - definitely different, definitely delicious. The soup also came with crispy noodles. The General tso's tofu was actually pressed tofu that had been seared, not just fried bean curd tossed in sauce. The sauce could have been a little spicier as I requested the heat level to be higher - but that's okay. A good dish overall. The Mongolian beef though! The beef was actually seared and served with green onions, water chestnuts, and on a bed of chow mien-esque noodles. The sauce actually was a little spicy and scrumptious! This dish was a perfect departure from how others do it in town. I would not hesitate to order this again - 5 stars for certain! Delivery was fast, hot, and accurate. This place is awful. We ordered food and when it hadn't been delivered in almost 1.5 hours my wife called to see what was going on. The extremely unpleasant woman she talked to said that they had delivered the food to the correct address and tried to make it seem like we were scamming them. They sent the driver back out and he admitted to delivering to the wrong place; however, the lady from the restaurant called back and STILL tried to tell us that it was our fault. You need a good Chinese delivery wherever you go. This was ours, in Madison. We tried 3 or 4 others - including Rubys - and none of them could pass our litmus: it must be able to produce a decent General Tso's Chicken that isn't too sweet or gooey with a modicum of heat, the egg rolls must be fried in clean oil and we should never see canned vegetables. They generally succeeded. However, I've stopped using them because the young guy that answers the phone frequently (maybe the son?) is such a dick. No, don't do it! This was gross! I had General Tso's chicken with supposedly fried rice and the greasiest egg roll I've ever had in life! The chicken is hard, over cooked, tough to chew and not spicy at all. I was supposed to get fried rice and was given a clump of sticky white rice with some type of orange food coloring added to it to make it appear fried. Dragon & Phoenix, eh pretty bad. I went to lunch here once and then never again. The chef got the order wrong and put the wrong vegetables in my Dragon & Phoenix and gave some of the other ingredients in my dish to my brother. I tried the fried dumplings, they weren't any good either and the dipping sauce was mediocre. My advice, avoid this place at all costs.
