We decided to stop by La Cita Bar after dinner tonight because we were already in downtown Los Angeles and wanted to have a few drinks afterward. I've heard of La Cita for years, and this is definitely one of those places that has been around for a while and has that classic Downtown LA bar feel. There was a little bit of a line when we arrived, but it moved pretty quickly, so we didn't have to wait too long to get inside. Tonight there was a $15 cover charge. Once we got in, we went straight for some drinks and had a beer and a couple of cocktails. The bar was pretty busy, and it did take a little while for us to get our drinks, but we eventually got them. The DJ was playing a lot of good Spanish music, which really added to the atmosphere and made it a fun place to hang out and have drinks. One thing I thought was really cool was that they had a photo booth inside. I wasn't expecting that, and it was a fun little extra. They also have an outdoor bar area, which was nice because it gives you another place to hang out and take a break from the crowd. Overall, La Cita has that typical Downtown LA bar vibe busy, energetic, casual, and definitely geared toward having drinks, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. We just stopped in for a quick drink early evening, so there weren't many people there yet. My friend wanted to check the place out. It looks like a fun place to hang out, dance, and listen to live bands if that's your thing. There is a tiny stage area that was sectioned off, and I imagine the place easily gets packed. The wood interiors have seen better days, and the seating is somewhat sparse to make room for a larger dance area. It looks like the type of place that gets stuffy quickly as there aren't any windows from what I recall. They have a patio, but we didn't make it out there. Restroom lines aren't too long and they're decently cleaned. I like the option you have to go outside for fresh air. But recently they've weirdly started to try to cater to like Anglo audiences and play random American music. That to me just was never the reason I'd go to La cita- there's a million places that will play random Anglo 2010s club songs, why La cita felt it needed to cater more to non Latinos is a mystery. The whole charm was that it catered to Latinos. Also security recently has gotten so annoying and have bad attitudes very frequently and are way too grumpy. Ambiance is dark, playful, and fun. Service was fast and very good. Bartenders were so sweet and made the best drinks. I got a spicy margarita and they did not disappoint. A fun place to go on the weekend or even the weekday! If you love Spanish music this is a must & hidden gem in DTLA. read more

My client and I popped in here after a lunch meeting for the first time without really knowing what to expect. We wanted to grab a couple cocktails and discuss our upcoming project. Well, we ended up forgetting about talking work and instead hopped on the dance floor with the most eclectic gathering of Angelinos cutting the rug to Mariachi tunes. I danced with an older Mexican guy who was wearing a non-ironic cowboy hat and boots that looked as if he just came off the ranch, which was a pleasant surprise since we were in the heart of Downtown L.A. Pretty good bar in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Surprisingly large, with a large indoors seating and standing area, as well as a large outdoors seating area. My group arrived around 5:30pm and there was more than enough room for us. I heard the drinks are great. Didn't see any food offerings, though. Recommendable for large groups. read more

The lights and ambiance was really amazing and just made you feel like you were in another world. We didn't stop dancing for three hours straight. The drinks we ordered were really good and I love how there were water dispensers with cold water. Probably saved the bartenders a lot of time and made it easy for everyone else to grab. We waited approximately an hour to get inside and paid $20 per person cash--but they do have an atm inside if you need it. Inside there's a lot of space for dancing and standing. The drinks were average LA prices, around $20 for a calm drink. I would recommend for a group event, there seemed to be some bachelorettes happening when we were there. One flaw is that the event ended 15 min prior to 2 pm and we couldn't use the restroom up to 30 min before 2 pm. read more

It was $20 per person to get in, which I would not have minded if the music was actually good. There was so much security, yet my friends kept getting harassed by guys. The women's restroom always had a line so my friend tried to quickly use the men's restroom and we ended up getting kicked out for it. I get that it was not the smartest move but a guy kept trying to peak over the stall and the security guard that was kicking us out did nothing about it until I said something.
