What a lovely spot on Cozumel. Offering indoor and outdoor seating, La Cocay is a casual but elevated experience with excellent service. We arrived late afternoon and we were pleasantly greeted and quickly seated. A nice solid menu of Italian/Mediterranean treats plus monthly specials posted on the exterior board. Full bar service, and plenty of Spanish wines offered. Prices are very reasonable and repeat that the service is excellent. In business approaching 30 years, this was our first visit and found it through a shout out on Yelp! The business is an American owned venture but very much offerings and atmosphere of a casual Mexican dinner. Some really interesting photographs throughout the restaurant that offer some insights into the island's history, the owners friends, and even her cats! We started with some wonderful empanadas and an octopus dish that was probably one of the best cooked I've had in memory. Great seafood options and daily fish specials. Like most of Central Cozumel, street parking can be a little tricky but not a showstopper. You may be interested in looking for a yard that offers car parking to get off the streets. Another year, another fantastic evening at La Cocay. Two of us shared two appetizers (grilled octopus & goat cheese empanadas with mango chutney), entree if bacon-wrapped chicken stuffed with goat cheese. This place was a breath of fresh air. Was looking for a classy Italian vibe in Cozumel and this spot fit the bill! It's off the main road a tad, tucked away on a one way street. The decor was beautiful and the staff was extremely attentive. The food was solid; I had the beef carpacio as a starter and the duck breast for my main. No drinks this time; while they have a full bar their main thing is wine (and I wasn't in the mood for vino.) For 4 people, the tab came to less than $150 tip; money well spent in my book. This is a 5 star for Cozumel. We had a lovely dinner here a few times over the years. Food is always cooked properly and tasty and of good quality. The waiters were on high alert for anything you may need or want. The Ambiance is good. We ate in the bar area at a table. There also is a covered area out in the back which we have eaten in that area a few times with a group of people. Quiet and intimate setting and able to have conversations. They do have a house cat that is wondering around that did not bother us once. The place is clean and inviting. We will definitely be back. read more

Wowsa!!! Fantastic Italian food on a small island in the Caribbean! Sign me up! This good was delicious!! We were in a fairly large group (24) and the wait time was not bad. Appetizers came out pretty fast and the friendly efficient waiters kept our drinks filled. My ravioli was great and the hubs loved the lasagna. Dessert was cream brûlée! Fantastic!! Wife and I were on our annual trip to Cozumel and she was in the mood for Italian and I for Greek. Long short found this "mediterranean" restaurant. I wasn't in the mood for a large meal so decided on their tapas. Got the meatballs, calamari, empinditas, mussels casino and onion soup. The mussels and empanditas were great highly recommend. The meatballs were so so don't like the sauce that came with them. The calamari was good but wasn't breaded. The onion soup was ok the soup was Mexican style more like a mole sauce/soup. Service was great and atmosphere was authentic Mexican island. Prices were pretty good too. Oh yeah had the coconut crème brulee which was awesome. I highly recommend this spot. read more

I come to Cozumel a couple times every year. I heard good things about this place but was very disappointed. For appetizers, we had the mussels and the duck firecrackers. The duck appetizer was good and would have been great if there was more duck in it. There was very little. The mussels were over cooked so were tougher than they should be. For entrees, my wife had the cheese ravioli, which again were over cooked so they were mushy and I had the snapper which was frozen and VERY salty. read more

We have wanted to go here for a couple of years and we're determined this trip to give it a go. The location and surrounding area does not impress but don't be put off. It's a relaxed restaurant that serves up some great food and tremendous service. The warm bread they give you free is a type of pita it's tremendous, we shared a tuna carpaccio which was fantastic than I had the octopus and my wife had the duck . The octopus was the star dish I highly recommend. They served the meals quickly but not in a rushed way which is a skill in its self. The cost of the meal is not expensive compared to US restaurants. They only take Visa or Mastercard so take cash if you have Amex they do take USD. read more

We've been to La Cocay a few times over the past few years and it's always been enjoyable. I will say, if you sit in the court yard/garden out back, I would wear bug spray. We had dinner there yesterday evening for our anniversary and our server Luis was awesome. The restaurant has a romantic vibe. They gave us a welcome drink (it's alcohol free) that was super refreshing, it was pineapple mint and something else I cannot recall. We had the tuna carpaccio for a starter and we really enjoyed the basil pesto it came with, and the shaved Parmesan. The complimentary bread with oil and vinegar was great as well. It's similar to naan. I had the ravioli for an entree and my husband had the 6oz filet. We both enjoyed our meals, my husband said his steak could've used a bit more salt. Portions were sufficient, I did not finish my pasta. For dessert we shared a slice of a cheesecake and both really enjoyed it. The cocktails were great as well, I had a carajillo and my husband had a blueberry mojito. We'll definitely be back. read more

My family of 4 have been coming to La Cocay for years when summer vacationing in Cozumel. Food is always very good especially when served in a quaint house setting with a beautiful patio seating. Service at times can be a little spotty especially of you get one of the older grumpy pants. Don't let that deter you from coming, they do lighten up as the evening progresses. Cocktails there have been always excellent, they make fantastic Cosmos and Sangria. Entrees ordered were Roasted Duck breast (mole sauce and a red wine orange reduction, scalloped potatoes) my favorite, Lasagne Cocay (tomato meat sauce with a trio of cheeses: ricotta, mozzarella and parmesan) and a seared Sliced Skirt Steak grilled and served with baked potato with sour cream and bacon. All the dishes came out hot and done to request and tasted great. The best of comfort food. read more

Great food. Mariachi show. It's a tourist stop, and they go all out. Also did a minor tequila tasting. Tacos had great flavor, and loved the rice and black beans. Ask for the hotter salsa, because the regular salsa tastes like marinara. Friendly and polite service. They also had a photographer to capture the moments. The food was outstanding. I had the Snapper served on salad. Everything is made in house. No bottle salad dressings. My appetizer was avocado gazpacho. Again outstanding and the perfect way to start a meal on a warm night. My wife had the l goat cheese empanditas with mango chutney appetizer and their homemade pizza. To be fair, we're from the Detroit area and used to that style of pizza so I can only say the pizza was ok. The leftovers did make a great cold breakfast the next morning. Staff was excellent and attentive without hovering over you. We did not have drinks Sinai can't rate them. Since it was my wife's birthday they helped us celebrate with a piece of home made cheesecake which again was outstanding and presented on a special birthday celebration plate. All COVID protocols were followed by the staff. Masks, hand say, sanitized and wrapped dinnerware. Visa and MasterCard accepted. Just FYI, if you've never eaten in Mexico, many restaurants behave outdoor seating like La Cocay. Don't be surprised if you are joined by the house cat.(Frankly I'm telling myself it's a house cat and not a feral cat.) I consider the cat an "employee of the restaurant that helps keep the outside area clean and free of unwanted visitors. Just something to keep in mind if you are allergic to cats. We've eaten at many restaurants on Cozumel and cats are as typical as outdoor dining. read more

Upon our arrival we were pleasantly greeted and treated to a refreshing drink made their with natural fruit. The waiter then came over and explained the items on the menu. I ordered Chicken Breast stuffed with Goat Cheese and wrapped in bacon. It was delicious. We also ordered Churrasco and shrimp. Delicious. Coconut Ice Cream for dessert. The food was less memorable for us, in comparison to many other restaurants on the island. We both ordered some pasta dishes. I had to "fix" my pesto with some lime juice and salt to make it "pop" in my mouth. Otherwise, it was quite bland. Traveling with my vegetarian daughter has been a wonderful challenge. At this place ordering was a pleasure. The vegetarian pizza was loaded with greens and portobello mushrooms. Our starter salad was piled high with fresh greens and came with apple slices and bits of blue cheese. Unfortunately the chef either forgot the mustard or got the proportions wrong for a honey mustard dressing. I added some balsamic vinegar and it was totally edible. My daughter enjoyed her simple cheese ravioli and we splurged on an unexpectedly lovely creme brullee with little sea turtle garnishes drawn with chocolate and mango reductions. read more

This was an unexpected dinner in that the restaurant we originally chose was closed on a Sunday so recommended by our taxi driver. Hands down the BEST meal my husband and I had on the island. From the appetizers (sautéed shrimp and firecracker duck) to salad (Napa salad) to entrees (duck and octopus) to desert (crème brûlée) to drinks were STELLAR! Service was also incredible. Food was wonderful! After being seated, they serve a bread Pitt like naan with garlic and Parmesan and butter. It's warm and amazing. I had the grilled chicken stuffed with goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes. Tasted dish. Pass on the mojitos; too much pulp and leaves. My husband ordered the lasagne Cocay; sounds simple but it was decadent. The food here is a taste of Mediterranean and you've had too much ceviche and tacos. The staff smiled and all were very friendly. We sat inside as we had been in the sun too much that day but the garden area looked pretty. We asked our taxi driver what his favorite restaurant was and he said La Cocay. We sat outside which was very pretty although lots of mosquitoes (use bug spray). The special was scallops- I thought we'd get 4-5 scallops-oh no, we got nearly a dozen. They were so good. This restaurant is away from the very tourist pet of the island. It's quaint and has a nice open patio area and open kitchen. We visited the last few days for dinner and lunch. Reservations are a good idea. The waiters there were wonderful and had wonderful suggestions. Menus are available in English as well. The cuisine to me is what you would get at an upscale restaurant in the US. Everything had beautiful presentation and was delicious. Jose was a fabulous waiter and we loved the black cat they had walking around the patio area. read more
