Beautiful entrance into the restaurant, they have inside and outside dining but it's not big so MAKE A RESERVATION! Great food! They send out a flatbread with goat cheese for a complimentary bread starter. Then we ordered 2 appetizers, the mussels in a white wine sauce and the duck confit tacos with a mango chutney. Mussels were so flavorful delicious! The duck tacos were served with 3 and so tender and perfectly paired with the mango chutney. For our entree we had lobster risotto which was the special. It was a big lobster tail over the risotto, very very flavorful and filling! We also got the buttered tuna which was highly recommended by other reviews I read and it definitely was worth getting! They sent out a chocolate soufflé style cake for my boyfriend's birthday, it was very good! Luis was our server and he was very very attentive, knowledgeable and funny! We couldn't book an able for eight on Open Table so our hotel concierge called and got us a table. It is a small restaurant, and as there was a heat wave in PDC, everyone was inside. We were welcomed warmly and it was great to see that we were not squeezed in! We ordered cocktails and appetizers. They came out quickly and were delightfully presented. We shared six entrees. The vibes were impeccable, and there was an amazing energy in the air. Our server Emilia was so kind, gracious and offered the perfect commentary and guidance for our selections that evening (she also made killer negronis and margaritas!) The duck confit tacos to start were so tender and tasty and accompanied perfectly by the condiments. The caribbean lobster risotto was so well prepared and the grilled octopus had the perfect cook and texture. I was so full, but after all that delicious food I had to try at least one dessert....and I'm so glad I did. We chose this restaurant after hearing raves about it from both guests at our hotel and a friend who has been there before. It exceeded our expectations! The restaurant is quiet (two blocks from 5th Ave) with low level background music, has chic/smart decor, and has an intimate feeling. The Host was delightful. There were four of us. Every dish they served was beautifully presented and extremely delicious. The dinner started with an amuse buche of delicate flat bread with herb goat cheese. I had the skewered shrimp and scallops. See photo. The shrimp and scallops were nestled together in a delicious garlic based sauce. Both cooked perfectly! My entrée was the rack of lamb. See photo. It is a half a rack and was cooked medium rare as I requested. It came with a lovely sauce. Another winner. The other diners with me also agreed that their meals were also spectacular! The specialty of the house, soy and butter glazed fresh seared tuna, was a major hit as expressed by one dinner mate. He and his wife come to Playa Del Carmen often and now plan to revisit this restaurant regularly. Everybody also loved their desserts. We ordered a nice Mexican Syrah wine to wash it all down. I found this place to be a perfectly predictable place for good elevated cuisine. They aren't taking many risks or doing inventive food. If you're familiar with the concepts Seasons 52, Bonefish Grill, Capital Grill, etc you'll recognize this style of cusine. The restaurant is designed to cater to tourists looking for great food with flavors they will recognize in a slightly more elegant setting than the standard by-the-beach Playa vibe. I stared with the scallops and mushrooms. This dish was great. The scallops were tender and still robust on the bite. The sauce was thick, buttery, and creamy with notes of sherry and rosemary. For my main I ordered tuna. The tuna seemed to have been previously frozen or just only decently executed. It was not raw inside as it should be, nor was there a developed crust. The sauce is a combination of butter and soy that basically tasted like clarified butter, which is obviously going to be enjoyable. But, overall I don't think the meal was worth the price tag for me. At this price point here (800pesos), I like to eat special dishes that do more than rely on heavy saucing. read more

Five stars doesn't quite cover the experience we had tonight. First off, the service was incredible. We were helped by Clara and Cielo who were both bright, bubbly and knowledgeable. They would give any Michelin star restaurant's service staff a run for their money. We never once wanted for a thing. The ambiance was so comfortable and pleasant. The music was fun, the temperature inside was perfect and the lighting was cozy. And oh lala!! The food!!! We had the funghi, the butter soy seared tuna, the filet mignon with foie gras and their dessert of the day: cheesecake with berries. Every step of the meal was a highlight. The cream sauce on the funghi was out of this world. The fish and meat were cooked to perfection. Every single bite of the dessert was delectable. And somehow, one of the things that stood out the most was the mashed potatoes. Those were the best mashed potatoes I have had anywhere in the world. Lastly, the drinks were delicious too! We had the oh lala passion fruit martini, berry mojito and the dessert martini. Everything was incredibly made and beautifully presented. Oh Lala quickly became our favorite restaurant in Playa del Carmen. After our first visit, we made a reservation for the very next night it was so good. We were so disappointed that we didn't find this gem of a restaurant earlier in our trip. The service was impeccable! The Hostess Claudia was quick to seat us and also book our reservation for the next night. She was very personable. The Manager Julia was so accommodating and ensured that everything was going well and perfect. Louis our server was amazing. He was easily one of the best servers I've ever had. He was extremely fun and funny! I would request Louis if possible to serve you. We ate the following dishes: Garlic and wine braised mussels- Saute with spring onions, garlic, parsley and white wine. These mussels were delicious and the sauce was magnificent as well. It's served with bread for dipping that was a great vessel to soak up the sauce. Highly recommended! Funghi trifolati- Mushrooms garnished with cream, white wine, truffle oil and garlic. These mushrooms are the best I've ever had... they were so good that we got them again the next night and I'm still dreaming about them. A can't miss item! Rosemary, garlic and goat cheese flatbread- This was a complimentary appetizer from the kitchen which we ended up loving. It had just the right crispy/soft consistency with a creamy-herby rosemary goat cheese. We ended up requesting this again on night 2! Butter soy tuna steak- Seared ahi tuna steak, accompanied by soy and butter sauce on a bed of mashed potatoes. The tuna had a perfect sear. The sauce was divine and balanced with the soy/butter ratios. Highly recommended! Filet mignon and seared foie gras with cognac carmelized apples. The filet was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The foie gras was a great accompaniment and the cognac sauce with apples was epic. Highly recommended! Lemon-garlic shrimp and scallop skewers. Citrus, garlic and herb infused shrimp and scallops from the grill. These were super fresh and not overcooked with delicious seasonings. Highly recommended! Rock lobster in a lemon beurre blanc sauce. The lobster was cooked well and came with drawn garlic butter and cambray mashed potatoes. Highly recommended! Rack of lamb provencal- New Zealand lamb with a fine herb crust with a red port reduction, mashed potatoes with seasonal vegetables. The lamb was deliciously cooked to medium-rare as I requested. The herb crust and port wine sauce paired well together. Highly recommended! Seabass special- Fresh day of caught seabass in a coconut based sauce with Japanese mushrooms and from scratch potatoe chips. This seabass and sauce were so divine and delicious that I wanted to continue to savor each bite. If they have this special definitely order it! Kefir lime crumble- Excellent dessert with a fresh lime taste that is not sour but light and perfect texture with the crumble crunch. Highly recommended! In conclusion, this is one of the greatest restaurants we've ever dined at and everything from the food to service was perfect. I cannot stress this enough: RUN do not walk to this restaurant. Well actually make a reservation first (because the restaurant is tiny- always a good sign) but seriously this is one of the most incredible dining experiences I have ever had. Oh la la blew my mind, despite already going in with high expectations after getting a raving review from a close friend. Every element of the meal was perfection, 5 stars is almost not enough. We started with the caprese salad and the scallop/shrimp skewers. The moment I tasted the scallops, I knew the meal was going to be incredible. Such amazing flavor in such a simple dish. It was extremely delicious and set the tone for a fantastic meal. Now the real winner of the meal was the tuna. I am almost upset because I think they may have ruined tuna for me, because I don't think I will ever get a piece of tuna as good as this again. Not only was it cooked perfectly, but the sauce is probably the most tasty sauce I could ever imagine. I actually thought my friend was going to lick her plate, we loved the sauce so much. You must order the tuna here because it is incredible!!! I think I could write 5 more paragraphs on the tuna but I will leave it at that, the point is... get the tuna. I loved the coconut curry. We went with chicken but I think it would have also been fantastic with seafood. The curry was so fresh and flavorful and creamy. We went with a 3 spice, which was perfect. For dessert, we went with the special of the night which was a caramel lava cake. I was so full but this was really the perfect dessert. It was so moist and not tooo sweet. I find that normally desserts will caramel are too sweet but this one was perfect. It was served with a little bit of ice cream and some berries. Overall, Oh La La is a playa del Carmen must. If I ever come back to playa, I will absolutely be eating here again because it was just so fantastic and I am sad I can't eat here more frequently. The service and ambiance were great. Food overall was tasty, but I would suggest the chef do a little more editing of some of the dishes. Example, we had the seared scallops that were served in a very thick rich mushroom sauce. The sauce was very good, but completely overpowered the scallops. My wife had the tuna steak as her main, on the side was a spun nest of sugar. Why? Just because you can does not mean you should. I had the octopus and could make comments about the plating, but will for now say the octopus itself was outstanding. Overall, the ingredients and their cooking were great, but there is a definite need for some editing. Good luck chef! read more

I would say this is a 4.5 star restaurant (and in comparison to other restaurants in the area I would give it a 5 star). I h There is a parking garage directly in front of the gate of this restaurant. Oh Lala is a little hidden by leaves covering the fence. If it wasn't for google map I would have never known it was there. We love foie gras. This one is seared, but it's dense and fatty (cool temperature) on the inside (not a raw liver that was just seared like they have at their sister restaurant Belmonte, but you get almost double the portion here). I usually like the latter and not a fan of the former, but overall this dish was better made here. I liked the sweet sauces of habanero(?) and balsamic glaze. The fresh fig was so good/sweet. Our party member enjoyed the grilled octopus. It was tender but for me the outside skin was slightly chewy. The special grilled (5) shrimp dish had excellent flavor. My tuna was slightly chewy in some areas but tender in other areas, but the butter sauce was really good to dip the tuna in as well as making the mash potatoes tasty. (For some reason the butter tastes like movie popcorn butter in the US.) Another party member had the Thai curry and enjoyed it with rice. It is on the slightly sweeter side. I really enjoyed the warm chocolate cake (like a molten lava cake but not as liquified on the inside) with ice cream and crushed cookie on top. The menu says chocolate mousse, but really it's a cake that's offered which I much preferred as I love chocolate lava cakes. I highly recommend this place. read more

We went here without a reservation, and they were graciously able to accommodate us. The restaurant was small and intimate, tucked away in the neighborhood. We started with the scallops in cream sauce and the cheese plate. For mains, we had perfectly cooked octopus, tuna steak, and filet mignon. We got dessert and ordered the apple tart, warm chocolate mousse, and the lemon cream, and every single course tasted incredible. The service was spectacular, very friendly service by Louis and English speaking too. The food was delicious - gourmet level! In starters we had the garlic shrimp, funghi mushrooms, and the fig salad. They also gave us complimentary goat cheese crispy bread compliments of the chef which was divine! It wasn't bad, but it wasn't very good either - definitely not worth the 5 star rating it currently has. The butter tuna is literally that - a stick of butter on a fish. I felt my arteries clog as I ate it. The steak was good, but again nothing spectacular- certainly not worth its $$$$ price tag. Like I said though, the service was superb so for that they get more stars than the food deserves. Oh Lala kept showing up as one of the top restaurants in PDC so I saved it for our last night in town. Really glad I did, because it was truly spectacular!! We arrived right on time for our reservation, only to find out we were somehow reserved as a group of 2 not as 5. Not quite sure if this was my fault, or if something got changed when the restaurant called me to move my reservation, but alas, no worries, a table was quickly assembled for us and we took our seats. The art on the wall next to us was a digital fish tank, which was different, and quite nice to watch actually. Our server (who was very good!) gave us some time to think about the menu and discuss the several specials while we enjoyed our welcome cocktails. After that three of us started with the Passionfruit Cocktail which was extremely delicious! The wine menu was quite good, and had one of my favorite Riojas on it so we happily ordered that as well! In typical fashion we ordered way too much food, but enjoyed every last bite. Dishes ranged from cheese plates and burrata plates to perfectly cooked steak and lobsters. We loved the complimentary bread to start as we sipped our sangria. For starters we ordered the garlic shrimp which was great! I need the recipe! We had ordered some starters such as the garlic shrimp, taco dish, and fig salad. They all came out in beautiful presentation and made us feel we were getting 5 star treatment. We also ordered a few sangrias which had a beautiful presentation, they had layered the drink and gave us a spoon to mix it when we were ready to drink. The entrees were just as visually appealing as they were delicious. We had ordered the lobster, grilled octopus, and seared tuna steak. All cooked perfectly. The octopus was so soft and tender and the ahi tuna steak melted in your mouth with just the right amount of soy flavor. The only thing I that I could suggest to change was that some of the dishes were a bit heavy on the butter flavor. read more
