Biggest pleasant surprise was the pabellon arepas I had ordered to go, which tasted AMAZING even 2-3 days later. It comes with 2 that you can mix and match, and each arepa so filling one order made a total of 2 meals. Got a large side order of tostones for $10 which seemed steep at first but ended up being plenty for 2 meals. Arepas are the perfect mix of soft, moist, but dense enough to hold up after reheating. Food is made with love and authentic tasting. I grew up eating Venezuelan food for 20+ years in Brooklyn and Queens, can definitely vouch for this place. Mango agua Fresca was great. Came here for a quick lunch with some friends. I ordered the braised chicken bowl with a side of yuca fries. The braised chicken was great, but I would pass on the fries if I came back. They were $3.50 extra and only came with four... and they weren't good. We also got the chip dip sampler, all were tasty! We got the plantains, which were good but not my favorite. I tried some of my friend's grilled chicken taco, and it was horrible. Whatever you do, don't get anything with grilled chicken here. This was our second visit. My strategy is to try different things, so we tried the chips & dip trio with salsa rioja, guasacaca, and black bean dips. They were all tasty, especially with a sprinkle of the red hot sauce for additional zing. Next, I enjoyed one "El Pabellon" arepa with brisket, sweet plantains, queso fresco, black beans and crema. The ample portion of brisket was tender and juicy. My second arepa (2 per order) was "La Llanera," a crispy arepa with carne asada, guasacaca, grilled queso fresco, salsa verde and pico de gallo. I've been following this food truck from back in the day so when I found out they were opening a physical restaurant I was very happy. The staff was very welcoming. I was a little sad that they weren't able to make drinks before a certain time because they didn't have a bartender there, it did make sense because they had just opened a few days prior I want to say so I'm guessing they were trying to figure out how busy they would be. If you are looking for authentic Venezuelan cuisine do not come here. As a Venezuelan myself I hate to say such things, however, labeling this as Venezuelan food is truly misleading to people who actually know the food. Let's start off with the empanadas - which were bland, dry, and definitely have been sitting in some sort of oven after they were cooked as you can tell by the texture. Chicken tasted like roasted chicken bought from Costco. Arepas - Not much to say about these other than the fact they were okay but they are tiny and poorly put together. Also putting the "guasacaca" (which is actually just guacamole) in an arepa called "la llanera" is just an insult. The "guasacaca" - we had to pay $3 for a 2oz container of what's supposed to be sauce, the name is misleading and false advertising. Its actual name is guacamole, not guasacaca, anyone who has tried guasacaca before can tell you this. Even my American boyfriend noticed this the second we got it. Overall, this is a nice looking spot catered towards rich folks that have never had Venezuelan food before. I understand places have to adapt to where they're located but this place truly has no essence. Also, expensive for the amount of food you're getting. I paid around $55 for miniature servings. And the interior is decorated kindy funky with ample seating (especially for an uptown spot). The margs and mojitos are on happy hour for $6 (3-6pm daily; regular $13), and they're both super refreshing. They have the perfect amount of filling in the perfect combination of flavors. I had the pork arepas and they had pickled onions and cotija cheese and they were truly amazing! The chips with trio of salsas were spectacular. Their refried beans dip is fantastic! Excellent guacamole as well. They served freshly brewed coffee to top the meal, it was truly amazing! I lived in Caracas for nearly a year and was very excited when La Cocinita opened a BAM location in my neighborhood. I finally got over to try it and was not disappointed. I've been excited about La Cocinita opening their brick and mortar restaurant in my neighborhood. I am familiar with their food truck from way back and their location at the Pythian when I worked downtown so I knew what to expect. My friend and I took a stroll there yesterday afternoon and we each ordered a bowl - hers was with chicken; mine with pork - and we both we extremely pleased either our meal. Later, we each ordered a mojito. It was perfect! We met the owner, Kenny, who was gracious and interested in how we were enjoying our meal. Shout out to Rudy, also. The place itself has a nice inviting interior and is squeaky clean. It's a wonderful addition to the neighborhood!
