    Ropa Vieja sandwich

This place is the real deal. The prices are beyond reasonable, but the food? That's the kind of soulful, home-cooked Cuban comfort that hits every note. The decor is warm and inviting, charming without trying too hard and you get the sense that everyone here knows each other. And if they don't, they will by the time the check comes. It's that kind of place. I ordered the ropa vieja sandwich, and I can't stop thinking about it. The shredded beef was rich, tender, and perfectly seasoned, tucked into pillowy Cuban bread that had just the right amount of crunch. It was layered with sautéed onions and just enough sauce to make every bite flavorful without being messy. Paired with the golden, crispy fries, it was the kind of lunch that makes you question why you'd ever eat anywhere else. Also, don't miss the table that's allegedly reserved for the Cuban mafia. It's a hilarious, iconic touch that just adds to the personality of this gem. If you're looking for warmth, flavor, and a seat at the family table, this is where you go. Speaking of family, my family and I love to come here, mostly for lunch, but dinner is great too.

Returned to Churros after many years of absence (no idea why... life?) I was craving a combo of a Medianoche Sandwich and a serving of nostalgia. Got both in spades. The sandwich was perfect: classic cuban components of roast pork, ham, melty cheese with pickle and mustard on an eggy roll, pressed and warm. Nostalgia dish? The yucca con mojo. Yeah, it's carbs on steroids but sooo yummy. This was one of the 2 sides DH got with his Lechon Asado. The other being spot-on Maduros. This place has been around for years and was even better than I remember. Yum, yum, go get you some!!

I tried Churros Cafe about a Year ago. Cuban Sandwich was sooo good. I also had a Churro, wish I ordered two. I don't frequent the area often but guess where I'm at today. Gonna tear up the Churro and Cuban. So good. Service is good also. Real family style. Ambiance is nostalgic.

I've been feenin' for a Cuban sandwich for a minute now and was excited when I accidentally found this little Cuban Cafe tucked away behind the Clearview Mall. Being an SFL native, I had access to lots of Latin and Caribbean foods and I miss them all dearly. I ordered my Cuban sandwich and a side of plantains for $14.38. My excitement and smile was quickly turned upside down. The sandwich was dry and lacked taste. The roast pork wasn't seasoned very well and they only give a very thin slice of ham. Normally, Cuban sandwiches are stacked with both and has some moisture inside. Mr. Jose and staff are friendly and I'm going to give them one more chance to make their signature sandwich the way it's supposed to be made. There is a good selection of other entrees on their menu and depending on my sandwich do over, I'll continue to patron them.

I love the food at Churros, especially their Cuban. Their daily specials have never disappointed me either. Today I had the Cuban sandwich and it was delicious, as always. The hubs went with the arroz con pollo and I had more than just one bite because it was that good. Excellent food and decent service. It's worth a stop for authentic Cuban food.

Churros Cafe! I finally do a review on this place. One of the best Cuban places in Metairie. I grew up coming here because it is right next door to my dad's shop, and from an early age, I loved getting their homemade churros. As I got older, I ventured out into their other dishes and found one of my absolute favorites, the Chori Pan. It's a sandwich that is simple, but delicious. It's made with chorizo and Swiss cheese and it's also got an amazing sauce on it. They press it flat and grill it to perfection until all of the cheese is melted and it's ooey gooey and savory. Perfect thing for me to order ahead on the ride home from work and enjoy in their small, eclectic dining room. Vivian and Jose have done this right for over two decades now, I believe. Here's to many more to come for Churros Cafe! Outstanding! Cheers!

Food tastes great. What wasn't great was the price you have to pay for nothing. So the meal doesn't come with the rice or beans so it's actually a side that you choose two from. RICE IF ANYTHING SHOULD COME WITH THE MEAL. It's very deceiving from the picture when ordering online. Won't be getting the meals from here again, if anything the churros

Another Yelp-er had written a review recently on a Cuban restaurant near where she lives and raved about it. She had been to several other Cuban restaurants. I decided that I needed to try it. I did a simple search on YELP, and found this and another restaurant, which I have not yet tried, but will soon. Let's get back to Churros Cafe. This is the restaurant ran and operated by the older mom and grandma and made smooth but the older dad talking everyone up. At least that's the impression I get. They have a table reserved for a permanent birthday party in the back, and one for the Cuban mafia. I have seen a party at one, but I haven't yet seen the mafia table occupied yet. The parking lot is shared with the rest of this small strip mall, which is located on Kingman Street, the nearest major place being the Sears end of Clearview Mall. There are about a dozen tables or so inside. My first meal, I had the Albondigas, which is meatballs in a sauce that is kind of sweet and spicy at the same time, rice and the fried plantains. This was an awesome dish that when I could not finish it, was good reheated the next day. I was the only customer dining in this visit. My second visit was on Cinco De Mayo, and let me tell you, this place was 3/4 full of Spanish speaking people, which to me is an indicator of something good. I had the Picodillo A Lo Cubano, which is ground beef simmered with peas, potatoes, and bell pepper. Also, I had the white rice, fried plantains and the toasted bread. This was amazing. The interior of the restaurant is neat and clean. Granted, I believe this is my first time ever having Cuban food, but this was amazing. I think this is well worth the stop. In the evenings, the other businesses are not open, so there is plenty of parking. I would suggest everyone come by.

The best Cuban sandwich I've ever had outside Hialeah. The restaurant smells like my mother's kitchen. Felt at home. Friendly owners.

Im pretty sure its actually purple food coloring and not actual ube, the only reason why I'm not placing a 1 star is because the first time I bought a cake from this place, it was actually good (some coffee cake). This bakery made decent cakes till I tried YOUR UBE CAKE. If you want to copy trends and mix asian culture into your goods, then DO IT PROPERLY, or at least research on how to make ube. Try making ube jam instead and place it in the cake, that would taste WAY better. Also the yellow icy part inside the cake would've been delightful if it was cheese and not some random yellow piss ice. Ube is commonly topped with cheese, this bakery really missed the opportunity to actually be culturally on point. So much for Ube getting mainstream if none of these businesses get it right anyway. They always mess up asian cuisines and culture by making their "own version". Dont disrespect our ube broski (I can feel/taste the ube on the paste but it just isnt enough, it needs more) (update, i take it back. Tried it in the morning where it wasn't as cold. It was actually soft and spongy, the ube taste was stronger and it was quite delectable. Keep up the good work, i see room for improvement though)

I picked: a large fluffy maple roll. The outside reminded me of a croissant in the best way with some mild maple sweetness and the inside was moist, pillowy, and rich. I heated it up in the oven next day which made it even better. A square coconut roll... crisp and flaky on the outside with the most delightful sweet coconut cream inside and flaked almonds on top. This was my favorite. Will get multiple next time. And a pair of taro rolls. These I was most excited for as I love taro, and they weren't bad at all, but were probably my least favorite of the 3, purely because they had an eggy aftertaste. They weren't overly sweet with a nice smooth taro filling. I also tried a taro milk tea with soy milk. These normally include lavender too, but I asked for mine without. The flavor was off the charts good. Strangely it was nothing like the usual taro drinks I've tried and I couldn't place what I was tasting, but it was rich and creamy and so satisfying. Only thing that bummed me out was that I ordered boba and there wasn't any. :(

Why doesn't every single coffee shop offer the tiny ice cubes? They keep your drink cold, while they don't take a ton of volume away from your coffee! I love the chicory flavor of this coffee!
