Came here for dinner on a Friday night and the service was great! Our server was really friendly and helpful. Since this was my first visit, she explained that all the dishes come out as soon as they are ready and it's more of a family style restaurant, which was really helpful! To start with, we ordered the salsas, which came with 4 different salsas and and chips. The chips were delicious and seemed fresh, and not very greasy. The salsas were all good, I liked them all, although none of them were that spicy. They were pretty small servings of salsa. For dinner, we ordered the carne asada with a side of the mexican style street corn, and figured if we were hungry after that we could order more food. In the meantime I had ordered a margarita that didn't come out for at least 20 minutes. Our server apologized for the delay and offered us guacamole, which was also really delicious, but nothing mind blowing. Our server offered to replenish the chips once we had finished, which was really nice. Our dinner finally came and I found the carne asada to be pretty salty, as in all I tasted was salt, but the meat was cooked really well. The couple at the table next to ours also found the carne asada salty as well, so I think it wasn't just a fluke that ours was salty. House margaritas were good, $10 each but I think they were worth it! Margaritas are so much better when the ingredients are fresh, like this one was. Overall, 1 star taken away because I think the food is a bit pricy, $5 for the chips and salsa and $5 for the side of corn! $12 for the guacamole, which was comped, but still pretty steep considered it was on the smaller size, definitely not enough for more than 2 people! 1 star taken away because of too much salt on the carne asada. That being said I will probably go back, and not order any sides or appetizers. I want to try some tacos! read more

I have to say, the food has always been quite delicious. Everyone I go I try something new and it doesn't seem to disappoint. The atmosphere is very swanky but still has that relaxed Austin feel. Chile rellenos are awesome--nothing like you've had before. Any of the crevices are good and you must get the cauliflower steak as it has so many distinct flavors that you wouldn't think pair well together. Holy salt, Batman. I took some clients here and we ordered a variety of items. Over half of them were so salty we left them at the table. The El Califa tacos have a strip of crunchy manchego cheese that adds a nice texture but the beef was overcooked. The salsas were pretty good and included several different options but again, nothing special. We couldn't even finish the brussels sprouts or the carne asada due to the salt content. The watermelon martini was so sweet it was as if someone mixed simple syrup with two cubes of watermelon and put it in a martini glass. I'm not even sure it contained alcohol of any kind. The Boca Negra for dessert was a nice combination of sweet and spicy and overall the atmosphere here is unique and inviting. I think they should work on getting the food up to the caliber of many other Austin restaurants. read more

The portion for the restaurant were small for price, it is suppose to be tapas styles Mexican but the entrees were small in comparison to other places in the area. I had fish tacos and they were alright. Others in my group had the Chicken Tacos and they said they had no taste. the queso appetizer was cold and hard on arrival. My friend booked the Flour Room for a private diner with 14 friends for her boyfriend's (my buddy's) 30th birthday. She choose one of the three Chef Menu options that is required when booking the room. 11 out of the 14 guests (including myself and my wife) got food poisoning and had to miss work the next day. She called the restaurant multiple times trying g to get in touch with the management team but got NO response after two weeks. When they finally responded he asked for proof that we all got food poisoning. Really? Give us proof that your food was cooked right. We're the customer. And we will not be going back. read more

House margaritas were tasty. Upgrade the tequila and it will be better. Also, I'm a no salt on the rim kind of girl, the bartender put it on the rim anyway and wow, I am glad they messed up! The salt rim has dried cactus and lemongrass with a touch of sugar. I couldn't get enough. So good. The venison tacos should be a daily staple in my diet. Fantastic. The meat was cooked perfectly. House made tortillas were delicious. The chicken mole was not that great. I'm a mole fan and try to taste as many and I can get my hands on. Their's wasn't that flavorful. The chicken was very moist and cooked just right. However, the dish was really just lacking taste. The chips are not even worth eating. So blah and boring. I'm on a quick business trip to Austin and the La Condesa was just around the corner from where I was staying. I have to say that I'm glad I stopped in. The service was bar none some of the best I've experienced. Five different people came by my table asking if I needed anything. My waiter "Hugo" was highly experienced in both the cuisine and the history in the vast selection of tequila. Certainly a must experience while in Austin. read more

I happened to dine there July 14, 2017. The restaurant is beautiful. The waitstaff were awesome! Very attentive and were happy to explain ingredients in the food. I found the food to be unlike anything I've ever eaten, but very tasty. The prices are a little on the high side for me. The only thing that bothered me was the volume of the music. This easily could have been a 5-star had it not been for the strangely deceiving "Spicy Paloma" beverage on the drink menu. Service each time at La Condesa has been excellent and what you would expect from a specialty restaurant. I realize with as many people as this place serves, we can't all have the same experience, however this place does work very hard to provide that experience to everyone. Our server "Jen" was unwavering in the face of our many picky-eater questions and seemed an expert at what is on the menu and how each ingredient is prepared. I see a couple of reviews about cold food being served, but my Chile Relleno was served at the right hot temperature. how many times can i say "mmm"? When they first opened the food and service wasn't very good, but they have since improved immensely! The aesthetics/architecture, right down to the tableware, is just uber kitschy cool. Tips: 1) You can order the full menu in the bar area, which has a better ambience than the main room. Go for dinner after peak hours, you get the bar to yourself (and your date). 2) It has small plates and lighter fare - good for people sick of huge Texan portions - probably the only Mexican-style restaurant in town that you can eat light and healthy at. 3) Try the cocktail called El Guillermo, if you like the smell of orange peel oil that has been briefly flamed with a lighter. Very exotic! (Wines by the glass, and the sangria, were disappointing). The only thing I don't like is that you have to pay for chips and salsa. So, I wasn't very impressed with this place. My girlfriend and I went yesterday because it was close to the bridge and we wanted to see the fireworks. Well we were seated outside, and I got the chicken tacos and she the tortilla soup. Well the tacos came out and each were the size of my palm. and for $7! My girlfriend's coup was pretty average. We then decided to get dessert from the underdressed waitress who was slow and forgetful. I imagine some of that may be responsible to it being a holiday..I don't know. But she had to come back twice to tell us that the dessert we ordered was out of stock. We finally got some ice cream bar-type dessert with rum-soaked cherries on the house. Just wanted to start off with the only negative I had about this place. It Is expensive. You can go and eat cheap though if you just order the smaller portions and avoid the entrees. The food and drinks here were amazing. We had a great waiter who explained the menu perfectly. We ended up splitting some of the tacos and the special of the day which was pork jowls. Awesome meal. I really liked this place. I felt extremely underdressed, after leaving a dance class, at dinner. It was not as casual as I was hoping for. The atmosphere was really nice tho. The service was great and friendly, and the food was astounding. The flavors were very rich and unique. I think they have the best salsa ever! There are four different flavors. I think they make their own chips? They were veryvery good. I ordered the Cangrejo Tostados and was not disappointed. I'm still recovering from this evening's delicious meal. First, fantastic building design and decor--a brilliant combination of mid-century modern and down-home comfy booths. The wait staff was very friendly on a quiet Monday night. Margaritas were delicious--not too sweet. Yellowtail ceviche was fantastic--simple, light, tangy, great flavor combination. Flavorful chips with four excellent salsas helped get the meal off to a great start. But really, it was all about the tacos. No need to even order entrees--just have a bunch of tacos to share. Each was fantastically different from the last, and very fresh. The queso tacos were obscenely good. After we lingered over them for too long and the cheese started to cool, our waiter graciously took the dish back to the oven and heated the remains up for us and brought fresh tortillas so we could enjoy every little bit to the end. read more

La Condesa is one of my top 5 favorites in Austin. I give it such high marks because the food is DAMN good, affordable, good portions & good service. I was recently there for my birthday. We had their guacamole with the watermelon & pumpkin seeds. So GOOD. We had their salsas & chips. It gives you a great taste of a few different salsas, all great. We always have to have the ATUN sushi grade tuna tostada, with pickled cucumber & chipotle mayo. Spicy & delicious. I'm a simple girl & love good food done right. I love their pollo rostizado tacos. Roasted chicken on a corn tortilla with onion, cilantro & lime. Delish. I order this a lot at lunch time & it comes with rice & beans. Both delicious. At dinner it comes with just tacos but you can order a side of rice & beans. YOU MUST TRY the Elote (roasted corn). OMG It's like going to roasted corn heaven. I will warn you don't eat this on a first date or around clients you are trying to impress. You will have cheese on your face. The corn is covered with mayo, queso fresco & chili flakes. Yes, that sounds gross but if I hadn't told you, you would have eaten it & it would still be amazing! You can ask them to cut it in half to share with a friend, although I just order extra because I don't share. Ask my children. They just revamped the dessert menu & I was glad my arm was twisted and I ordered a few. I had a special of the day, a peach torte with sour cream ice cream & a wedge of blue cheese. The tort & peaches were hot out of the oven, flaky & delicious. The blue cheese was creamy, salty & an amazing accompaniment. The sour cream ice cream was so good too. We also ordered the Spicy Boca Negra. I'm not even a chocolate fan but I couldn't resist and it was amazingly good. It's a spicy, molten hot souffle with banana ice cream topped with bruleed bananas. OMG you shouldn't share good. All of this fabulous food was washed down with their fabulous margaritas. You must have one or two. On a kid friendly note. My kids love La Condesa. I usually order them the same chicken tacos minus the onion. They love the tacos, rice & beans, guac and of course the desserts. We also came for Halloween last year. Stopped in for lunch on a weekday and was completely underwhelmed. The trendy decor was fun, but that's about the nicest thing I can say. The hostess asked for first and last names before we were seated - am I missing something here? When there is no wait, why would they need that information? Then, our waitress was very snotty and condescending, never smiled and was less than helpful with her comments re: menu and non-menu items. Not a fan of a Mexican restaurant that charge for chips and salsa and, they do not alert you of that fact when they offer it to you. The rice had no taste whatsoever and they do not have salt and pepper available on the tables. The green sauce on the chicken tacos was flavorful, but that was it. It was a big to-do about nothing. First of all, the server and wait staff were superb and offered grade A service all around. The brunch menu is quite brief, though, is complimented with items from their regular menu by request. We were in town for a bachelorette weekend and we kicked off the "big night out", at La Condesa. It did not disppoint and was the perfect place to celebrate. Our waiter made sure everything was perfect, which really made the whole evening. The guac & salsa tasting was very good, but the salsa was more of a puree. Tasted great but I do prefer a chunky salsa. All the girls were very impressed with each of their meals. I had the pork chops and plantains. They first came out cold (so disappointed!). As soon as we told the waiter, he took care of it immediately. When he brought them back, they were to die for. Fell off the bone and were spicy!!! This was the first place we ate at during our trip to Austin. It has a nice location, just a couple block from the river. We also really liked the decor and overall space, there is a great mural on one of the walls. Appetizers: We ordered the salsas that consisted of a 4 different salsas: mild, spicy, and two smoky. The spicy was by far the best. I believe the waiter said it had chopped up green apples in it... delicious! Side dishes: We heard that the green beans were smokey and salty (in a good way) and they didn't disappoint. My wife also got an order of the street corn which ended up being her favorite "taste" of the night. Entrees: Chicken mole for her, (2) carnitas tacos and (2) El Califa for me. We were underwhelmed by our main dishes. My wife was a little so-so on the mole and for me the El Califa tacos were just way to much. It was a thin slice of steak coated in fried cheese... Came here alone on a whim for Happy Hour. Tried the sope (salty and overfried), Acapulco tostada (nice but small), and salsa taster (filling but nothing special). Glass of wine was bland and skimpy. My general impression is that the food is too salty and overpriced for it to be worth it. My server at the bar wasn't super accommodating or friendly. However--the one redeeming part of my experience here--the staff waitress was very nice, asking if I had dined with them before and courteously explaining what their salsas were and what order to eat them in. This place was the best meal I had in Austin - hands down. From the street style corn to the mimosas and everything in between, it was all perfection! I'm a retail designer and this was also one of the best designed spaces I've been to in months if not years and rivals anything I see in New York or elsewhere. My wife and I will drive from 20 miles out simply just to taste happy hour at La Condesa. This place can be pricey if attended for a meal but happy hour is a steal!!! Half priced drinks (best margaritas in Austin) and a long list of appetizers that are fun to share. We always get the skillet of nachos, street corn and this time we tried a lump crab and apple guacamole. It starts at 5pm. If you aren't there by 4:45 it will be standing room only, so get ready to fight for a table....I don't like standing while trying to juggle appetizers, this is the only reason I give it 4 stars. read more

My sister and I go there today for lunch after a morning of bad circumstances. My sister ordered a chicken sandwich. After eating half of a half she realized the meat looked odd and thought maybe they accidentally put ham instead. Turned out it was raw chicken! We notified the server who got the manager. They apologized and offered another bring another meal. She declined and said she had lost her appetite. We asked the waiter to check us out and to my shock the only thing they did was remove the meal my sister didn't eat! Seriously? I was shocked. I would have expected a high end facility to have better customer service then that! I told the manager as we were leaving that I was shocked and all he did was so he was sorry....even comping a drink or a part of the bill would have been appreciated Ironically when we were in the apt elevator talking about it a man chimed in his last experiences were poor and he wasn't going back. I'll give 1 star as the specialty drinks are very tasty. So disappointed. And more poor sister hasn't felt good rest of day and has to drive back to San Antonio feeling nauseous. read more
