The best happy hour in town Weekdays from 5-7 in bar area they have half off drinks and $3 tacos!! Insane deal / we tried the crispy tuna - al pastor - chicken and fried fish taco We also ordered the quesadilla from the regular menu My favorites were the crispy tuna and al pastor - I think next time we will order at least 4 of each lol The quesadilla was delicious and large portion too! La condesa house marg was my favorite - also on happy hour! We tried the churros - amazing!! So freaking good Service was great - Sarah was our server at the bar and she was incredible - loved her! Super helpful and personable and friendly! The interior is beautiful - street parking / garage is your best option

It was one of those coldest days in Austin and I decided to brace the freeze and step into La Condesa in the downtown. Parking was a nightmare since it was hard to find a space next to the restaurants. I got one three blocks away. I was able to reserve and go. It was pretty much an empty restaurant and the waiter was really great and recommend vegetarian options. My order: Huevos Rancheros Chilaquiles Concha Service was a tad bit slow. Still the dishes came out piping hot. Loved the Huevos Rancheros and it was a little soupy than the traditional dish. Chilaquiles was fine. Concha was alright since it wasn't a soft brioche and the chocolate wasn't going great with brioche , probably because it was my first time. Ambiance was stellar with lights and decor. Would totally recommend this place.

PESCADO AHUMADO - smoked fish, avocado and caviar

Our new favorite spot! Bar none! Lots of vegan and gluten free dishes Pro tip: go for their weekly happy hour 5-7pm! The tacos will change your life! My absolute favorites were the Crispy taco (tuna, dai dai, avocado, chives) and some delicious fish taco that was special that day. My wife's favorite was the Al Pastor and the Pollo taco. We then left HH, went shopping, and came back for dinner. At dinner we had almost everything and the standouts were the QUESO FLAMEADO made with black beans, avocado and of course queso! We added the short rib (chef's kiss). Then we had the ESQUITES a side dish made with grilled corn, cotija, mayo, etc. and lastly the PESCADO AHUMADO made with smoked fish, avocado and caviar! Yes, yes, yes please... Dessert was a struggle because we were full - so we recommend sharing with lots of people - but we did try the CHOCOLATE cake with banana ice cream and the carrot cake special. Let me just say ... I actually don't like carrot cake. Never have. Never will. Until now. I loved the texture, the subtle carrot and the sweetness. Who knew?? I'm glad I tried it. The ambience was perfect for our anniversary and ALL of the staff were friendly, informative, and welcoming. They also always ask about allergies which we loved. So try the HH then once you're hooked - reserve a table and bring your friends!

Very upscale, ambience was very pretty with plenty of decor. We went for a brunch on a Sunday morning and it wasn't crowded at all, we still had a reservation in advance. Our waiter took good care of us, went over the menu to help us choose vegetarian options. We ended up ordering the huevos rancheros, chilaquile with no meat, mint tea and a concha. Everything tasted delicious. My most favorite was the huevos rancheros. The eggs were perfectly done and it was delicious. This restaurant says $$$ but our check was only $60 which we thought is a little lesser compared to what is mentioned in Google/Yelp with regards to pricing. The restrooms were very clean and there is a bar on the other side. Overall a great experience!

Wow, where do I even start? Brandon, who was running the host stand and serving as the manager on duty, was absolutely incredible and truly the highlight of our visit. He made sure we were well taken care of from the moment we arrived, offered fantastic dish recommendations, and was a major reason we'll keep coming back. We came for brunch and ordered the $4 palomas, banana bread, breakfast quesadilla, and short rib hash. I wish I had taken more photos, but trust me everything was so good we devoured it immediately. Highly recommend!

I met a friend for HH this past week on a Wednesday. I got lucky and got a street spot just around the corner! Woo hoo! I've been to La Condesa many times in the past but it had been some years since I'd last been to this location. We sat near the bar at a table and had a great waitress, Gabriela, waiting on us. They have a good HH with 1/2 off of all drinks and street tacos for $3. The tacos have a nice spicy kick to them! We ordered cocktails, some tacos and guacamole. The blue corn chips were a nice touch but we ran out and needed to order more. They brought out the wrong taco for me at first but quickly brought the right one, which was the pastor one. And when they say 1/2 off all drinks, they mean all. Gabriela suggested my favorite cocktail as I was struggling to find one, other than the paloma on their menu that didn't have syrup/sugar which was The Last Word with mezcal! They brought one out that she and I both knew right away they hadn't made properly because it was missing the maraschino cherry, they put a lime on the rim, and possibly the green chartreuse because it did not taste good at all. She said she would personally remake it and she did! It was much better! I look forward to going there for HH again, especially if I get a sweet parking spot!

A friend and I slipped in here a few weeks ago and the vibe was so right! Nice dark lighting. We got queso with short ribs and it was so filling--it came with tortillas so it was essentially like eating tacos. The drink were great too, I got their classic margarita. Excellent service. Great experience!

Carnitas Tacos ($16), Queso Flameado ($22). Can you see the GIANT POOL OF GREASE :')

Another "elevated Mexican" spot which are a dime a dozen in Austin. We came here on a Tuesday evening. Pros: -The interior is beautiful. -The homemade corn tortillas are fresh and chewy. -Happy Hour has half off drinks and the drinks are nice. Cons: -The items we ordered were SO. incredibly. Oily and Greasy. I suppose I just get annoyed when things are calorie bombs when they don't need to be. The carnitas Tacos ($16) were literally swimming in grease I had to blot off the bottom with a paper towel. And the Queso Flameado ($22) was nice but was a giant bowl of melted cheese that was again, swimming in grease. I suppose cheese makes grease when it melts and it's hard to pour the grease out- but still, not an enjoyable experience. Nice chopped avocado on top though. I really wish I had gone for the ceviche or tuna tostada. Our waiter was quite pleasant. We sat outside on the patio because we had a pup with us.

Well deserved 5 stars. Yes it's pricey but the elevated and eclectic dishes are delicious and a welcome treat from the boring Mexican food you can find everywhere else. The attention to detail on the dishes is evident and the flavors are bold and fresh. I really enjoyed the Happy hour oysters, Queso flameado (add the rib meat), and the carnitas tacos. Delicious across the board. The mini Barbacoa tortas were also tasty. Service was friendly and helpful.

La condesa has the best queso fundido I have ever had. It's so good. The tortillas are delicious, and the avocado & beans are a great addition to the queso. We enjoyed our entrees, but this was really the star. I'd come here and get a drink, queso, and dessert!

Had a lovely date night here; this spot is on the Chase Sapphire list of restaurants to redeem credit, so we decided to check it out. A few vegetarian options, and nice flavors across the board; they were accommodating for dietary restrictions. It is quite loud in the restaurant, but the ambience is nice with high ceilings and a ton of plants. Staff was nice, but service was quite slow. Dishes are pricy, but decent sized portions-- and some, like the queso flameado, are heavier than one might think. Tip: ask for their salsas on the side! They have a couple good ones with varying levels of spice, but not listed on the menu! Dessert was the best course of the night!

    Churros
    Michelle T.

La Condesa is our go-to spot in Austin for authentic Mexican food. Their queso is famous for a reason. It is rich, savory, and absolutely worth ordering. The server once recommended adding short rib to the queso and it was amazing. Their carne asada tacos are my favorite and I honestly order them every single time. The tortilla chips are made in-house. Just a heads up, they are very hard and crunchy, but paired with the guacamole and their spicy salsa trio it is delicious. The drinks are strong and excellent. I always get a spicy margarita with Tajín on the rim. If you are dining with a group of five or more, I highly recommend ordering several small plates and sharing so everyone can try a variety of dishes. Everything we have tried has been so flavorful and worth it. Dessert was also great. We ordered the freshly made churros and the tres leches and both were a hit. Service is always pleasant. The staff is kind, helpful, and gives great recommendations if you ask. The menu is on the smaller side, but every dish is made with great flavor and at least one standout element. The presentation and atmosphere are perfect for date nights, celebrations, or group dinners. Overall, it is just a wonderful spot where you truly cannot go wrong.

Came in for brunch on Saturday. Loved the decor and the vibe. The service was not great. Took a long time to get breaks; kept forgetting items we ordered. And heard servers dropping dishes 2-3 times! On the plus side, they did have $4 brunch margaritas (although they were out of the frozen ones, and the classic was pretty acidic). The Sandia one with mezcal was untraditional, but so good! Also the huevos rancheros were very flavorful. My friends loved the chicken salad and the chilaquiles, too. They were out of the carnitas, so my other friend had the Barbacoa, and it was fatty, like a pot roast, but she said it was eccellent.

They had space for working virtually as well as displays to test some of the technology. There's a nice balance between indoor comfort and that signature rooftop-style setting, which gives it a relaxed but elevated feel. The staff was friendly and kept things running smoothly, and the overall setup felt thoughtfully organized. Whether you were there to focus on the installation or just take it in casually, the environment supported both. The line was somewhat long to get into the event as it was at capacity and could only allow more people as people were leaving the event. I was given a drink ticket and got to try the Patio Pounder with ilegal mezcal, primo aperitivo, tropical citrus, coconut, grapefruit soda. The bartender was efficient even though the lines were long. The cocktail was enjoyable with the balance of smoky and citrus flavors. They also had a variety of food bites available including chips and queso. creamy street corn, and sliders. The food was gone relatively quickly due to the crowds but it would be replenished periodically. Overall, Upstairs at Caroline proved to be a solid venue for a creative SXSW event versatile, welcoming, and very on-brand for Austin's arts and tech scene.

No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there.
