Updated old outlets, installed a new outlet and replaced all smoke alarms I can't say enough about how happy I am that I found La Costa Electrical. I found them based on their Yelp reviews. Lou came out to add a new electrical outlet and replaced some old outlets. While at the house he noticed that our smoke detectors were badly out of date and needed to be replaced. I made a mental note to call them back when I had more time. Sure enough, it was like Lou was an electrical psychic. Two weeks later we woke up at 5:30 am to the sound of all our alarms going off at once. It never occurred to me that could be a possibility with out of date detectors. I put in a call to La Costa and Brock came out immediately to stop the alarms until Lou and another gentleman could come out the next day and replace all the smoke detectors. A big shout out to the La Costa Team. They were fast, professional and very knowledgeable. The detector replacement came with a ten year warranty and the price was reasonable, but the peace of mind knowing La Costa Electrical has our backs from this point on is priceless! read more

Just a few notes in dealing with this company. First, they don't charge by the hour. Instead they have a undisclosed list of "charges" for doing various tasks. $90 to open a wall switch or outlet to "check" for problems was our experience. They proceeded to check six outlets and said the wire nuts were to small and one was loose, which the loose one is what we diagnosed. So, no hourly billing. No disclosure of charges per work performed up front. Brock's said he called to talk, but we have no calls in our mobile call log, just a text with pictures of outlets opened. Our bill came to roughly $800 to check six outlet and work on some under cabinet lighting. Replaced six wire nuts, tightened one. 2 guys on site and complained about the drive in traffic to get to Oceanside from La Costa. Said if we didn't pay he would put a lean on the house. Please be aware if they don't put a preliminary lien notice on your house prior to performing any work and presenting it to you if will not stick. They can put a lien on the house but it won't end well for them....so don't believe any crap about liens when they haven't done this. I also recommend asking the for each electrician that comes out, if they have a recent California Electrical Certification. Requirement for your insurance should you have a fire that each person be licensed. So, if they house burns and an electrician who performed the work didn't have this license up to date, your insurance company can void your fire insurance benefit. Check license here... https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/ecu/ElectCert/ElectCertSearch.asp Who knows now who came out and did the "work" had this license. Maybe so or maybe not. read more

Overall, they did what they said they would, when they said they would. i think their prices are a bit high. * I called to have them troubleshoot three outlets that were not working * they quoted $250 to troubleshoot that would be applied toward repair * I asked them to plan on replacing three physical outlets * They called 15 minutes before appointment time and said they were on the way and they showed up on time * The found the problem (faulty breaker) very quickly, then replaced the breaker and replaced three outlets * total time hour and fifteen minutes Bill: $340 to troubleshoot then replace breaker $225 (parts and labor) to replace three standard outlets Total $565 I don't use electricians often so not sure how they compare. Brock was on the scene very quickly and he explained that this will happen to older, outdated detectors. We wanted recessed lighting installed in family room. We used La Costa Electric a few months ago to install a new outlet in our garage for a fridge and to install some new ceiling fans - they did a great job. Brock responded to our request quickly. We sent pictures of the room so he could give us a quote. Brock's quote was consistent with a few other places we called. I suppose new lighting is pretty straightforward install. We went with La Costa Electric since we had such a good experience the last time. They were able to get us scheduled within a couple days of calling. On the day of install, Brock and Joe showed up on time, ready to go. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. They had to cut a few holes in the wall to run wiring to the new lights. They cut the holes neatly and had sheets down to capture any dust. They made sure to cut the holes near the studs and even drilled the drywall pieces back in place. We need to get a drywall person to help patch the holes so we appreciate how tidy they left the area. Overall, they did a great job and we'll definitely call them again! read more

Family run business and they are very courteous and prompt and know what they are doing. Weird circuit issue on kitchen lights came up couple years after remodel. Lou came out and worked on it. He also installed a dimmer that I asked him to as long as he was here. That night another issue came up because of switches the remodeler installed that we didn't even know existed. After speaking with Joe and sending pictures and a video he quoted me a price of $1500 to fix the issue and when I paused, he stated they have great Yelp reviews. We had a wired outlet that went around the door frame, which required proper wiring through the drywall. He stated they would be over in less than an hour to do the initial work and would return on Monday to complete it. He also said once they assess the situation in person they could give me a more accurate quote. Well, after at most 3 hours probably more like 2, I was presented with a bill for $1500. So if you break it down that's either $500 or $750 per hour. After posting my experience on Nextdoor for feedback and calling other electricians to get quotes, I got screwed. Two of the rocker switches in my laundry room weren't working right and they fixed them in about 15 minutes. $150 is the minimum charge but since they were already in my hood they gave me a little discount, and I paid $100.
