There was a large party that seemed to cause major delays, and we ended up waiting about an hour for our food. Thankfully, the drinks were strong, so we had a great time catching up while we waited. We started with the guacamole, which was incredibly fresh and addictive. I ordered the Fresh Herbs Swai, and although they were out of the coconut rice, the dish was still flavorful and delicious. We also tried the Cuban 4 Leches cake and flan, and both were pretty good. Despite the long wait, this remains one of my favorite low-key spots. We came here after the World Cup final match expecting to have a nice dinner. The first couple of dishes, including the nachos, were actually pretty good. Everything changed when our fajitas arrived. We ordered the Mixed Fajitas with beef steak, shrimp, and chicken. After we'd been eating for a while, my husband suddenly said the steak smelled and tasted spoiled. I realized I had noticed an odd smell when I ate a piece earlier, but I thought maybe it was just me. Then one of our friends said she thought it tasted bad too and had actually spit it out into a napkin. We immediately called the server over. He took the entire cast-iron fajita skillet back to the kitchen and said he would check with the chef. After a long wait, he came back and told us that both the chef and the prep cook insisted there was nothing wrong with the steak because it had been cut just yesterday. They claimed the "smell" was coming from the sauce. We asked them to bring us the sauce separately. We all tasted it, and the sauce had absolutely no bad smell at all. It clearly wasn't the source of the problem. Even then, they refused to acknowledge that anything was wrong with the steak, but they could remake the meat if we want. We then asked to speak with the manager. A young manager came over, we asked if any of them has tasted the beef steak left in the fajitas skillet, she said she believed us tasted and smelled it but she simply repeated the same explanation. She said they were a family-owned business that cared deeply about their reputation, so the meat had to be fresh. Her solution remained unchanged, she can bring us a remake of the meat. By that point, we had already finished most of the meal. What good would another plate do? We weren't asking for more food--we wanted them to acknowledge the issue and handle it appropriately. The ending was honestly unbelievable. They took just $6 off the entire bill, saying they had removed the cost of the steak from the fajitas. I've never experienced a resolution like that at any restaurant. The only conclusion I can come to is that this is a tourist area in Fort Lauderdale. They saw that we were visitors, figured we'd be leaving town soon, and simply didn't care about making things right because we'd probably never be back anyway. I haven't left reviews at Yelp for many years, but I'd like to share this experience. Hopefully it helps others decide whether they want to take the risk of dining here. read more

A few weeks ago we visited Las Olas beach in Fort Lauderdale before going to the airport late in the evening. We decided to try some Cuban, Latin foods and we found this restaurant in a walking distance from the beach. It's actually on the Las Olas Blvd. The restaurant is in a small complex with other restaurants so it's hard to find a parking space if you're driving. The restaurant is very nice and clean, the servers are quite attentive and pleasant. We liked the lunch menu prices but only for M-F and it was Sat. So the prices are 40% higher. Anyhow, my wife ordered Mexican steak plate and I had the mixed fajitas plate. The server brought over some magarita samplers which are very cute although we can't taste much. The plates came out sizzling hot and smell wonderful. The steak sauce was very tasty, and the fajitas sauce was excellent too. But both of the steak plates are quite chewy and tough. My chicken and shrimps were fine. The vegetables cooked to perfection. It was quite a full meal for both of us before a long flight back to the Bay. If we decided to move to Florida beach one of these days, we would go here for lunch while laying on the beautiful Las Olas beach. The prices are reasonable compared to CA. We had dinner at La Costa Olas while on a trip to Fort Lauderdale. We stumbled upon the restaurant while wandering around and took a chance based on the extensive menu and welcoming staff. I had chicken flautas, and despite my request to have them made without cilantro, as the picture indicates, that is not how they arrived. Not wanting to send them back, I scrapped off the entire top layer and asked the waitress to just bring me a small side of sour cream. Overall, the flautas were delicious, not dry but nice and tender with a crunchy shell. The side of guacamole was flavorful but not too spicy. My husband ordered the Coconut Beef Ribs, based on the menu description... "ROATAN'S COCONUT BEEF RIBS: From the Abuela's Rancho we got the beef short ribs in her incredible coconut ginger sauce. Cooked 'till meat comes out of the bone. It melts in your mouth!" ...Unfortunately, while the sauce was tasty, the beef rib turned out to be so dry and tough that it was inedible. The quality issue was reported to three separate servers, but the complaint went unheeded. There was no offer to replace the entrée with something else or to remove the item from our bill. Top of the list, must stop, amazing food! If you are within a 20 mile radius, this is your dinner, no questions needed. Every plate we ordered was delicious, every side, even the water tasted better. I got the carne asada hanging steak with the coconut rice and plantains. The steak was cooked perfectly, the rice was delicious, and plantains paired well with the food, but I think I'm more of a fries type of guy. The fried chicken plate my friend ordered was also really good, and so were the fajitas. We sat at the bar and for drinks ordered a sangria and a house margarita. They were meh in my opinion, being premade and poured from a dispenser over ice. So many places in FLL are doing this now. What was pretty cool is that they have a dewar of nitrogen that they top the drinks with so they're 'smokey'. For food we started with the queso fundito, it was solid with the homemade tortilla chips being the standout. It's always fun to hit the temperature where the queso cools to the point where you can really get it onto the chip. After the queso we ordered 4 tacos, 2 carne asada, and 2 spicy pork with pineapple. Both varieties were great. Our server was great. Our server, Ernesto kindly warned us as soon as we sat down that their internet was temporarily down so they could not accept credit cards. First time checking this place out and it was just OK. I think the service is what sort put a damper on it all. Perhaps it was affected because it's Sprjng Break, but can't say for sure. We noticed tables around us getting slightly better service, so maybe it's a server issue. As for food we had the super baleada and this was tasty as well as packed with a lot of ingredients especially sausage and egg as well as carne asada, avocado and cream. For our meals we had churrasco and grill platter that had a variety of meats like chicken, churrasco, sausage and both came with a choice of two sides. We got white rice and plantains with one and white rice with beans on the other. The only standout for me was the white rice. It had a perfect texture and good subtle flavor. For drink we decided on the pitcher of Sangria and here is were we noticed the slight differences between our servers. The table next to us got their pitcher and the server poured fruit in their glass plus poured their first glass which was garnished beautifully with an orchid. Our server just dropped pitcher at our table and left like they were in a rush to do something else. The place is intimate and you can get a slight view of the beach. I'm sure normally that's good but during spring break we were able to witness people use the grass by the window as their bathroom and other things that you don't want to see while eating. read more

Fantástico! We loved everything about this place. Our first stop from the airport, we got our Cuban food fix and it set the bar high for the rest of the trip. Rodrigo took great care of us - even sending back Cuban coffee that had spilled slightly on the way to our table. He made sure it was sent back and redone to perfection. That high standard showed with the rest of the dishes. The elote is to die for. I got it without the flaming Cheetos to avoid the heat but that's definitely an option for the spice lovers. We ordered the cuban sandwich and sweet plantains. Also tried the tomatillo. Drink was the passion fruit margarita - can't beat a Tajín rim. Everything was tasty and arrived quickly.
