We absolutely love Vilas - oyr family has been coming here since at least the 90's and they never disappoint. My favorite is the palomilla steak, but to be perfectly honest, it's the salsa, plantains and beans & rice that keep me coming back. Their salsa is my all-time favorite and no one does plantains like they do. Youngest offspring always gets the fried ice cream (so good and they always give us extra spoons) and I love their flan. Didn't get the caffe con leche this time, but it's a winner too! Parking is a bit limited - small parking lot - but there's plenty of seating inside (love how they freshened it up during quarantine). For the most part, I would say, the ambiance is mostly Mexican, but as far as quality of food food goes, both are done very well. I was with a large group, while every9ne seem to want to try the Mexican menu, I ordered from the Cuban menu and ordered Ropa Vieja, and I must say, everyone was very satisfied with the food. Everyone's favorite drink seemed to be piña colada, although I was very satisfied with my michelada. Overall, it was a positive experience. Very impressed with this Mexican restaurant ! I just moved to Riverland and I was looking for a good Mexican restaurant in the area. There is not a lot of local restaurants but this one will be a staple. The restaurant is large and spacious very cute and well decorated and the food is great. I ordered the chicken and rice and my husband got chicken steak and shrimp fajitas it came with cheese, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and a side of fajitas. Everything you may expect from a family owned Mexican restaurant, traditional music and colorful decor. We came on a Monday at 8PM, place was quite empty with on 2 tables. We were promptly seated and served water and chips. Unfortunately the experience went downhill from here. This is the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. I knew we were doomed when we arrived...no one was in the restaurant and it was Cinco de Mayo! An empty Mexican restaurant on the most popular day of the year for Mexican food...we should've immediately left then. Let's start with the chips n salsa...chips were stale and salsa bland. We ordered enchiladas and steak tacos. The enchiladas were dry with barely any sauce. I had to ask for more red sauce to combat the dryness and they were still awful. I ordered a side salad instead of rice and beans and they gave me the salad with no dressing whatsoever. Didn't even ask if I wanted dressing. Ok guess I'll chew on dry lettuce then. We also ordered a few drinks including mojitos. The mojitos were not even made right. Whoever made them blended the mint into the drink resulting in the drink being green with tons of little pieces of mint floating on top. I'm no bartender but I know enough to know that mint in a mojito is supposed to be muddled, not blended and mojitos are not suppose to be green! Just awful. Only saving grace is our server was a nice guy. But even though he was nice, he barely checked on us and never refilled our water and again the place was empty. Stopped in on the way out of the gun store nearby and ended up having a really bad experience. All items, every single thing that came out was completely cold. They took our order wrong, didn't provide any of the sauces that come with the tacos, and rarely came around so we couldn't ask for help until the very end. I usually get a chicken quesadilla and call it a day but my husband likes to get that as well as the fajitas and he says they never miss. This has become our go to spot. Ordered tonight through DoorDash and this was the quesadilla I received. 1/2 to 3/4 of the quesadilla is literally only tortilla and most of that with no cheese visible on it. This is what you get for a $19 quesadilla. Drive to the restaurant to get a new one and they refused telling me to contact DoorDash. I didn't want my money bank just wanted what I paid for. Villas has good Cuban food. I've been here many times.It is similar to Las Vegas. Some of my favorite dishes are the ropa vieja, vaca frita, lechon asada and picadillo. The service is always excellent. The staff check on you often and are quick to bring anything needed. The portions are big and the food comes out hot and fresh. Vilas is our favorite local Mexican and Cuban spot! Every week we visit the restaurant on Monday or Tuesday for their BOGO deal - buy one entree, get one free (select menu). Chips and salsa are complimentary. I typically start with a cup of the chicken noodle soup, then order either the palomilla or the ropa vieja. Both are equally as delicious and filling - sides of black beans and rice with plantains. SO YUMMY! The best part ? .. easy parking, no wait, and quick service. We are in and out within 30 minutes and it's CHEAP! Definitely a quaint spot, nothing fancy. But highly recommend! read more

Food was actually pretty good but the server though she was smart and thought she could double charge for the meal, then played dumb, that she didn't speak any English and her supervisor let her do it. Our party of seven enjoyed delicious, authentic Cuban and Mexican cuisine on Monday, April 15th, at Vila's. The ropa vieja, lechon asado, fajitas, enchiladas, guacamole, Cuban coffee and cafe con lecho were outstanding. The portions were plentiful and what wasn't eagerly devoured was packed in to-go containers to be enjoyed later. We traveled back to my home state the following day with leftovers packed in our cooler. I've never cooked anything that tasted that good and no way was I leaving them behind! The restaurant was clean with delightful music playing in the background at the perfect volume. The entire staff was very pleasant and efficient, especially our superstar waitress Laticia who provided EXCELLENT service. She was very attentive and personable, and we were all impressed (also, a couple of shout-outs to the charming host who greeted and seated us, and the pleasant, professional young woman who kept our glasses full while expertly navigating around a very full table.) We couldn't have had a better dining experience and will DEFINITELY be back. We love Vila's! read more
