Best traditional puertorrican bakery I have tried in the Tampa Bay area. Fast service, relax atmosphere, and clean. Everything fresh.

I traveled about 35 minutes from South Tampa to try this bakery because I enjoy supporting Boricua bakeries and trying authentic favorites like alcapurrias, mallorcas, and pastrami sandwiches. I came in excited for a good experience. For context, I'm Dominican and my husband is Puerto Rican, so we're very familiar with the culture and the type of warm, welcoming energy these spots usually have. I tried the alcapurria and pastrami sandwich, and my husband had La Bomba. The food was okay, but unfortunately the customer service set the tone for the visit. The staff had straight faces, didn't smile, and came across as cold and dismissive, which made the experience feel unwelcoming from the start. To me, this did not feel like an authentic Puerto Rican bakery experience because if it truly were, the atmosphere would feel warm, inviting, and full of hospitality. Even when food is decent, poor customer service can ruin the experience. This bakery has potential, but because of the service, I will not be revisiting or recommending it. read more

Tried several items from La Creation Bakery and overall it was a solid experience for a reasonable price. The Cuban sandwich 4/5 had great flavor, but the bread was softer than I prefer and could've been crispier. The meat-to-bread ratio felt a little off, with more bread than filling. The ham and cheese and chicken sandwich 3/5 came with melted cheese, but again the bread leaned more soft than toasted. A little extra filling would've made it more balanced. The chicken empanada 3/5 had good flavor but was overly greasy. I had to dab out some of the oil before taking a bite. It was so much fun meeting a friend here at lunch time. My friend is from Puerto Rico & confirmed this is one of the best places around. I ordered 2 alcapurrias for starters. I love Puerto Rican food, but I never heard of alcapurrias until today. The outer shell is made from a plantain masa. The inside is loaded with seasoned ground beef. This then gets fried & arrives piping hot. It started off tasting great, but for some unexplainable reason, the more I ate the tastier it got. I also tried a Coco Frio which is like a coconut soda. We were recommended to try this place out by a friend. We love supporting local smaller restaurants in our area and are always open to trying something new. Upon arriving we saw they were extremely busy and thought that was a good sign. When we arrived at the counter to order we were not really greeted just asked what we wanted. The service was cold and unfriendly. We ordered two café con leches, a Mallorca plain, one with cream cheese and guava, a quesito and an egg, ham and bacon sandwich. The sandwich was very bland and left me very thirsty. The coffee was horrible! So bad that I couldn't even take a second taste. With the type of machine they have I am at a loss for words on how it could have tasted so bad. The pastries are ok. It was with great anticipation that I visited this Puerto Rican Bakery. I grew up on the island with a foodie father before foodie was a word. We traveled the island extensively tasting everything it had to offer. So my expectations were bubbling over at the thought of some home cooking. Unfortunately, there was not a single item that I ordered that I can brag about or recommend. Sadness filled my soul and I went home knowing I would never return. Sancocho was mediocre at best, half the size of their competitors and woeful in texture and flavor, likely the worst I've had. Next a childhood delicacy and favorite a buttered and pressed Mayorca w/ Powdered Sugar was a terrible simile of the real deal. The sandwiches lacked substance w/ very little protein between the bread and the meats I chose (pastrami & mortadella) were pathetic and cheap versions of the coldcuts I love. Another delicacy, the Alcapurria while their best dish was also just edible, a food truck a mile from home makes them much much better. A saving grace for these folks might be that most people might not know what the real deal tastes like. TLDR: great baked goods decent price. This bakery was a random stop on our way to visit friends. We wanted to bring something to thank them for having us over and this bakery was perfect. We ordered a variety of pastries along with a small cake and large loaf of bread. The bread was so soft and plentiful. The cake was quite sweet and perfect to share with a couple of friends as a small piece was all you need to satisfy a sweet tooth. All of the pastries looked amazing but I tried the guava and cheese danish which was very tasty! They also offer a more extensive menu with eggs and sandwiches that we are looking forward to trying in the future. The interior is modest and you get a buzzer if you order longer to prepare items. This is my go to place for my fix of Puerto Rican cafe con leche. The sandwiches are excellent, nice and toasted. My favorite is the guavate sandwich. The frituras (fritters), a staple of Puerto Rican cuisine, are Savory and well seasoned made with root vegetables and stuffed with meat or seafood. They also have a variety of desserts. Try one of each. You can't go wrong. In addition, they also have tropical juices, like passion fruit, guava, acerola cherry and tamarind (my favorite! It reminds me of my childhood vacations in Puerto Rico). They also have maví; it's a drink deeply rooted to the island and other Caribbean cultures. It has a sweet and a slightly bitter taste. Absolutely fantastic chicken lunch. They've recently added Chicken Guisado to their lunch menu (yes, I had to look on facebook to see what it was actually called). I kept calling it chicken stew and the employee wanted to make sure I knew it wasn't a soup, but pieces of chicken. I think I saw the video on facebook of one of their other lunch options, which does look like a stew, and that stuck with me. They have a pork, steak or chicken lunch option that comes with a salad, beans and a bottle of water. It's a steal and it's delicious. I mentioned to the employee that I don't eat pork and asked if the chicken dish had pork in it. He said no, but I'm pretty sure the beans it comes with does. This place loves its pork (which makes sense since it is a Puerto Rican bakery). Just double check about the beans if you don't eat pork either. Everything I ate was delicious, even the rice that came with it. I did eat the beans, picking out the meat, and the beans were superb. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful. I was absolutely stuffed after I ate everything. The salad was basically iceburg lettuce and tomatoes, but it did make the meal seem more balanced. There is seating outside, but each table is small and only fits two chairs. It's shaded so eating outside at the end of June at noon actually didn't feel hot. There were a ton of people coming and going around noon on a Monday. I understand how this place survived the pandemic, it has a loyal following. It seems like most people grab food to go. This is my usual weekend stop. It begins with the sugar donuts. It's just so light and soft. It's difficult to stop at 2. Their sandwiches are always on point. Whether the giant bacon and egg on pan de agua (PR bread) or the pernil with cheese and onions or any sandwich. But those two are my favorite so far. Next up is the steak sandwich. They usually have a rotation of harinas which are avena (oatmeal) or farina or harina de maíz (corn meal). Any of them hit the spot. One of my Favorites is the Sorullos de maíz con queso. (Fried corn fritter with cheese for the non Latinos lol). They are perfectly fried with just the right ratio of cheese. Just enough of a hint of sweetness that you'll crave it again and again. The coffee is PR coffee so you know it's gonna have a nice kick. Fresh squeezed OJ and who says there's anything wrong with a piña colada with breakfast. I'm only hitting a few of the many goods. Oh on weekend they have sancocho which is also delicious. And the mallorcas! Let me stop! Always well staffed for the rush though sandwiches might take a bit as they are all made fresh to order. Don't complain; good stuff takes time. They were so busy they had to expand but in reality I think they may need more space. La Creacion Bakery is a local Puerto Rican cafe that offers breakfast plates, hot sandwiches and a plethora of desserts at reasonable prices. It's a short drive from my house, so on days when I'm too rushed to cook breakfast, I love to drop in for some snacks and sweets to go. There are two tables inside the bakery, but they are mostly encouraging order ahead to-go orders. You can order at the counter, call ahead, or through their website. There are a few tables outside the cafe as well, which only sit 2 people at a time. For the two times I visited, I ordered a Cuban sandwich and a Las Monjas sandwich. The Cuban comes with roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickle and mustard on pressed bread. Las Monjas includes salami, mortadella, ham and cheese. Both sandwiches are delicious. The bread is always fresh and the meats are juicy. They are very good at customizing your sandwiches and confirm what toppings you do or do not want in your food. There is a cool display filled with mouth-watering desserts inside, including donuts, pastries, cakes and creamy desserts. The sugar donuts are a simple offering that's so fluffy when you bite into it. It pairs excellent with coffee. I like the flaky pastries the best, especially ones filled with guava and topped with heaps of powdered sugar. Are you a sweet or savory fan? I am all about savory foods. I will always choose a bag of chips over dessert. I think it may be due to my salt addiction. We stopped into La Creación last week and it was a pleasant surprise. This hidden gem is located in the Town 'n Country area and specializes in Puerto Rican desserts and sandwiches. I decided to order both sweet and savory selections. I treated myself to their beef turnover and a La Perla Sandwich. This delectable sandwich is made by pressing their sweet bread (pan sobao) filled with salami, American cheese, and a fried egg, which I chose to add. I couldn't get enough of it. This sandwich is one I would certainly make the thirty minute drive for. However, the beef turnover was a bit dry and the ground beef kept falling out of the pastry. This may because it only contained a small amount of beef stuffed into the pastry. I couldn't leave without at least trying a dessert, so I ordered a donut and a piece of vanilla cake to-go. I am pretty "vanilla" when it comes to desserts. The donut was fresh, while the vanilla cake was a bit dry. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly and pleasant. This bakery was located in the same plaza as LA Fitness by Hillsborough ave. There was outdoor sitting area. Their donuts, cake, bread all looked so fresh. There were three kind of drinks behind the counter. We got one tamarind juice. It was good. We had a Mojaito cake which was like a pound cake soaking in syrup, very sweet yet good texture. I visited this place back in April and recently went back and just like the first time it was pretty awesome. My sister was craving some empanadas one day while running errands and I knew just the place. Located in a strip mall near Oldsmar there's plenty of parking right in front and the bakery itself is easy to food. My sister ordered a chicken empanada and I got two beef empanadas. They're huge! the outside of them is nice and soft and the inside is PACKED with so much meat it was the perfect snack while on the go. Not only do they have empanadas they also have sandwiches and bakery pastries as well. In addition to my empanadas I also got a guava and cheese pastry which was very good and something I'd definitely get again. Especially since I had to share it with my little one lol. Next time I know to get two! I don't know why i went so long in between visits but I sure can't wait to go again and have some more empanadas!
