Cuban foodies has a special until the end of August. Only $39 for their Chicken Yellow Rice Family Meal with a choice of sweet plantains or black beans. All of their family meals feed 6+ people. I have not been here in a couple of years... Food is good, portions are ok. But today I was not happy.... For a plate of Vaca Frita @$17.99, I only got three small pieces of Platano Maduros. Large portion of rice (cheap to serve), decent portion of beef, and three tiny pieces of plantain. I love Maduros... that was one of the main reasons I stopped here, they used to load it up. Our favorite local Cuban restaurant closed after covid, and we've been looking for some good pulled pork ever since -- today we found it!! Cuban Foodies was such a pleasant experience, from the decor, music, and servers, to the amazing food. Definitely a five star experience, as I had nothing to complain about! Our server was incredibly sweet and patient with our questions, and her attentiveness through our meal was top notch -- more like we were in an expensive eatery than this smaller place in a strip mall! My wife and I both ordered the Lechon Asado (pulled pork). She chose a salad and the boiled yuca as her side, I got the black beans and yellow rice (only counts as one side!) and the vegetables. Delicious!!! The pork was tender and juicy, seasoned wonderfully. The beans and rice were cooked to perfection! My wife loved the yuca, and even the vegetables tasted delicious drizzled with a balsamic glaze. Our Sunday after church with family, wife & I, eldest daughter, youngest daughter and two youngest grandkids. Visited on a recommendation from a friend and online ratings.Small but comfy, we found a table for 6 right by the window. I was surprised that a server came to wait on us. Mayte took our drink orders while we glanced at the menu. We decided on the Family Meal with Ropa Vieja and Pollo A La Plancha, with Yellow Rice and Black Beans. Grandkids also wanted Fries. We also ordered one each of Empanadas, Beef, Chicken and Spinach and an order of Mari-k-tas Plantain Chips. Shortly Mayte brought our Plantain Chips, followed by the assorted Empanadas. The Chips were great, fresh, hot and crispy. I divided the Empanadas into sections so all could try some. They were good, but not hot and had apparently been in the warmer I saw earlier. Disappointing since I was the one that really looked forward to them. Next came Cuban bread, crispy and terrific. Then our meals came. A huge bowl of yellow rice, a nice bowl of black beans, fries, and bowls of Ropa Vieja and Chicken A La Plancha. The meats were delicious, full of flavor. The rice was very good and the beans were the best I've ever had. And the fries were terrific, hot and crispy and super tasty. Bread was so tasty we had to order more. And of course Momma had to get desserts to share. The Rice Pudding was great, took me back to my childhood. The Flan was ok, not a big fan of Flan. Sadly they no longer have Tres Leche cake. The food was excellent and the service was great. Definitely the best Cuban food I've eaten in years. The only disappointment was the Empanadas. They can be pre-made and cooked fresh very quickly. I continue to go because the food has good flavor but I am consistently disappointed with the inconsistency in the availability of food. I have no gone 3X and they are either out of pollo empanizado or arroz blanco. What Cuban restaurant doesn't have white rice! I usually don't write reviews but today I went with my family at 5:15PM and I was told that we should rush to order because they close at 6:00PM. When they told me that there was only 1 order of white rice left and they might not have pollo empanizado... I politely said thank you but we would find somewhere else to eat. Frustrated because it would be so convenient to take friends here but I don't because I'm not sure of the experience if the the items on the menu would be available. Family owned hidden gem. Good people, good food, good portion, good price and clean restaurant. I took my gal friend with me because she loves Cuban food. Now she can just come to Cuban Foodies which is only 10 minutes away from her home. I take her word. On the other side, as a person who is not familiar with Cuban food, I am learning to appreciate the beloved cuisine. I ordered "Masas De Puerco", fried pork chunk with onion and Mojo sauce. It was well seasoned and fried to perfection. The pork chunk has port of fat on it so it is not dry. I ordered entree so it came with 2 sides. I chose rice and beans which flavor matched the pork well. Besides the food, I was so knock out of my socks when I took a sip of the freshly made Cappuccino. To start, the yellow rice and black beans and sweet plantains were very good. But that's where it ends for me. The Yuka con mojo still had the fiber roots in them which are unpleasant and the "Mojo" was barely noticed. I tried the standard Cuban sandwhich which was small and bland. No flavor at all. Also tried the Bistec de Palomilla which was a very thin steak, not breaded or fried just you know, that was tough and over cooked and topped with raw onions. Wasn't marinated for long so not a lot of flavor. I may try them again but not for a while. Definitely won't get the same stuff. And Cuban Breeze is right across the street. read more

Wow!! We stumbled upon this gem of a place after a long walk at Upper Tampa Bay Park and needed some good food. We weren't disappointed one bit. Sorry but we ate it too fast to get some pictures. The Lechon Asado plate was unassuming from the eye. A seemingly small ramekin of meat but it was packed with a punch of flavor, falling apart meat without fat, and the juice that I wanted to drink. I used the Homestyle Mashed Potatoes to soak it up....and this is coming from someone who's not a big mashed type of guy. It was great. The Maduros, sweet plantains rounded up the platter and I was full. The Ropa Vieja sandwich was meaty and sumptuous. It had plantains in the sando in case that's not your taste. French Fries were flour tossed I think before fry so it had a bit of a breaded crunch and were good. The Cafe Con Lèche comes out in your own 1 cup cafetera espresso pot. Add to your hot mug of milk topped with your sweetness level and you are good to go. While I wanted a Mango Smoothie that was out, the Mamey Smoothie hit the spot. I got the La Vieja sandwich which comes with fries. The sandwich was perfection. It has a hint of sweetness from the sweet plantains and the cuban bread is sturdy, yet fluffy. The fries are the shoestring fries that are so addicting. When you come here, you should definitely get a sandwich. We ended the meal with a dessert that wasn't on the menu. It was a chocolate cake with coffee flan and ice cream. Like everything else it was superb. PRICE: Everything above plus another sandwich came out to $27. Mind blowing. I can't believe that amount of food cost that little. CLEANLINESS: I really pay attention to the cleanliness of a place now that my son likes to try to pick up everything. This place was spotless. You'd be surprised how many places has little pieces of trash on the floor. The owners really pay attention to detail. FRIENDLINESS: Our server, which I think is also the owner, was so friendly. Yelp definitely pointed me in the right direction with this spot! The atmosphere is really chill. There's a small game corner when you walk in, beautiful art displayed, and great music. I went around 2pm on a weekday and the place wasn't crowded at all. The staff was super friendly and I was even given some suggestions on menu items that I might be interested in trying since it was my first time there. The food is made fresh to order so expect to wait at least 10-15 minutes for your dish. While waiting I was offered a sample of the ham croquette. It tasted like the traditional Cuban-style ham croquette and it was very yummy! I personally ordered a Jupina (Cuban Pineapple soda), the Shrimp al Ajillo meal, fried yuca with a garlic cilantro dip, and a mango shake. First, the Jupina is a staple drink if you come to a Cuban spot. Although I'm not a huge fan of soda I am from Miami and grew up drinking these so I had to get one. It pairs well with salty foods because it is soo sweet and was perfect with the ham croquette while I waited for my main dish. The shrimp al Ajillo was absolutely delicious! I ordered my food to go and had this dish later at work and it was still on point! This dish is a shrimp meal with a garlic wine sauce. This dish came with two sides. For my two sides, I ordered yellow rice and black beans (one side) plus sweet plantains. Everything about the taste of this dish will have someone A.K.A "me" addicted to this place. If I could sum it up in one word I would say "flavorful!". I also must mention the mango smoothie. YUM!!! It is definitely more creamy than "mangoey" and I wasn't expecting that, but it exceeded my expectations. The smoothie is refreshing and not overly sweet which I love. They also give you any leftover's from the mixer in a smaller separate cup so you get every last bit of the drink. Thumbs up for that! I was in the mood for a Cubano sandwich, and my search got me to Cuban Foodies. Ambiance of the restaurant is very homey. Receptionist was very attentive and answered all my question. Food portions is quite filling. The ham and pork was piled quite high. I also ordered the yuca fries. They are great, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The sauce that come with it though was phenomenal. It would've been nice if there were more. Food tasted great, receptionist was very helpful.
