Immediately after the passing of my stepfather, we needed to locate a cremation service. Subsequently, I called at least 5 different companies, including 2 that have name's associated with the sea (you can figure it out). I could not believe that during my initial calls, that only two of the businesses seemed compassionate and offered condolences for our loss. I know it seems silly, but what terrible business practice not to be compassionate during one of the most difficult times for a family. Well one of the only two businesses to offer not only compassion, but exemplified the meaning of compassion and professionalism was LA Cremation. I initially called on a Sunday morning. Within a few minutes, my call was returned and we were immediately greeted with their condolences and a complete rundown of their services. This was all delivered compassionately without feeling like a sales pitch. The representative then set up a telephone conference for the following morning with the counselor that would be working directly with us. The following morning, I received a call from Daisy, who was amazing. She was incredibly kind, thoughtful, compassionate and extremely professional. Daisy provided incredible concierge service and assisted us in every step of the way. She consistently remained in contact with us throughout the entire process and provided up with updates. Lastly, the cost with LA Cremation was less than half of what was quoted to me by the cremation company that rhymes with "autotune." The folks here are very nice people with outstanding customer service skills. The prices at LA cremation are much more palatable when compared to some of their competitors. The staff is very patient, courteous, accommodating, and very astute. There is a red flag that knocks some points off: According to California Law, a death certificate needs to be filled out within 10 days of a person's passing. Certainly LA Cremation has no control if the attending doctors are lagging on this timeline. However, they do have control on how long they wait to tell their client that they have been unable to do the job that they have been contracted to do, on time. Does 38 days since the contract was signed seem like an appropriate amount of time to loop the customer in on the fact that their loved one isn't getting cremated anytime soon? Because, when dealing with a 10 day window, what else is the client likely to think besides "this seems to demonstrate a lot of lagging and lack of initiative."? I don't know why the crematorium couldn't get through to the facility doctors for a over a month since, for perspective it took me all of 1 hour to get a callback from the convalescent home administrator when I was forced by the crematorium's lack of results to take time off from my own work to handle the job that I paid the crematorium to do), and I, furthermore, find it incomprehensible: 1. Why getting through to someone at the convalescent home was so difficult for them, when this cannot possibly be the first time in their line of work that they have had to make this call. 2. Why the crematorium thought their client would be ok to be informed of a death certificate delay 45 days after the passing of the client's loved one, instead of 10-15 or even 20, when California law requires a death certificate to be completed within 10 days of a person's passing. 3. Why, nearly 50 days after the loved one's passing, the crematorium thought the client would be accepting of "another 6-8 week" timetable on a death certificate being completed (not to mention God knows how long for the cremation itself.) 4. Why, when, literally, dealing with life and death, and when unable to complete the job, for whatever reason, the crematorium would not have contacted the client, right away, to show consideration for timely completion of their loved one's cremation. I simply do not see how waiting over a month to let the client know that the crematorium has been unable to handle the job makes for a sensible business decision. I was so impressed with LA cremation from our initial phone dialogue, in person meeting, pricing, and overall accommodating nature. Unfortunately, they ultimately fumbled when it came down to the nitty gritty of the job. For the reasons stated above, I, unfortunately, cannot give them a higher rating. read more

LA Creamation was suggested by the hospice staff person who oversaw the care given to my very beloved wife of 65 years who was dying from a fatal stroke. My wife died at home in November 29, 2023. An ambulance picked her up immediately and took her to LA Cremation to be cremated. I paid in advance for the cremation and for six copies of the death certificate. The cremation was delayed for unknown reason until Dec. 14 which greatly distressed me, and to date, March 4, 2024, I have not received the death certificates. I made many calls to them for the death certificates and they had one excuse after another with no results. I sent them a letter by regular mail demanding a refund of the $144 I paid for the certificates. No reply. I finally had to go downtown to the County Public Health Department and buy six copies of the death certificate for an additional $144. When you call this location and you get placed on hold, the message they play while on hold is how they care about your family and your loved one that died. Message states 100% satisfaction on services they offer. However, my family and I experienced the exact opposite of the services rendered. We purchased a specific wooden urn for our mom that was cremated. LA Cremation called us, and said that we can now pick up our mom's cremated remains. My sister went and was given a plastic container. She thought that the wooden urn was inside the plastic container, but was then informed that they just placed my mom's ashes inside that plastic container. Fortunate enough that she did not open it carelessly, or my mom's ashes could have been everywhere. They said there was a misunderstanding and that they did not know we purchased a specific urn from them. The urn was not delivered yet, and that was the reason why my mom's ashes were placed in a plastic container. They then apologized for the incident, but having this kind of mistake should really be avoided as much as possible. It goes against their message and what they stand for. Giving customers false information about 100% satisfaction is unacceptable. Moreover, the tone of voice by the manager, Anette (however that name is spelled), was also unacceptable. I did not even hear a sense of sincerity about her apology or condolences. She needs to learn how to handle customer service recovery. I would not recommend this place to anyone as of now. Maybe after sufficient staff training and improvement, this place can then be commendable. read more

I thought I would never have to post about a family members death. To say the least this was very difficult for me as family means everything to me. I granted my father's wishes as to cremated. Spoke with three reps and they were all pleasant. I was put at ease when speaking to one particular woman ( I will be back to post later with her correct name) Talk about a laughable moment , which I so desperately needed. Final indignity for your loved one. It will probably be too late when you read this. Suppose you wanted to pay $600 for a urn for your spouse. You might want to inspect its quality. What does 'bottom access' mean. How secure is the urn lid? Is that really some sort of natural jade? LA Cremation "can't" let you see a sample of any urn. You can only imagine answers to your questions by looking at single views in their catalog. I guess it's not exactly sight unseen but my God if this is going to be their final resting place you ought to be able to get the assurance you need. Wish I could give them zero stars. They misled us, delayed us, tried to upsell us for services that we could do ourselves more quickly, and generally threw our attempts to deal with a difficult situation into disarray. They said they would follow up on various questions for us and contact us, but with one exception where they did reasonably well, it took multiple phone calls to get them to do anything. And even when they did things, after those multiple calls, it generally turned out that the story they had originally told us about what they were going to do didn't match what was actually happening in the end. If you're going to go into business dealing with people who are in a difficult emotional situation, I think you ought to prioritize telling them the truth, at least, even if your low prices mean that they aren't going to get much in the way of customer service. The plastic plants, and the fish tank filled with algae and no fish, were just an added bit of tackiness on top of what turned out to be truly awful service. read more

This company was on a list provided to us by the Hospice Company. When my Aunt passed the hospice Nurse called LA Cremation while we were in the room after just watching her die. The woman on the phone was very rude! I told the nurse to cancel with them and used another company that didn't have so many complaints about bad service and rude people. Death is never easy..... That being said, The Cremation Society made it a lot less difficult. Alex is AMAZING at his job! My husband passed in early April and I didn't really know what I was doing. I contacted them because my husband wanted to be cremated. Alex was just a God send. He wasn't stuffy, arrogant or condescending and he did NOT push anything. I ran into a few glitches along the way and he was always available to assist. I would have completely lost my mind if I hadn't had such a wonderful and knowledgeable person helping me. He walked me through what needed to be done and decisions that needed to be made. The smallest request I made was very warmly accepted by him.... When my husband passed, his hair was a mess and I asked Alex if he would brush it because Drew NEVER went anywhere without his 20 minute hair primping. Alex handled that small request as though it was the most important thing that needed to be done. I asked several very weird questions that he answered quite elegantly and with no judgement. It feels very strange to write a review on this subject, but on the other side of the coin, people pass every day and I hope that those who have lost someone are as lucky as I was to find someone like Alex and his staff to help them. Thank you very much for making a difficult and painful experience much more comfortable and less heartbreaking. This staff really cares about the people that come in and are very caring, concerned, helpful and just wonderful in every single way. The light humor was refreshing and made it feel a bit less ackward. Alex is very easy to talk to and really caring and understanding, but most importantly he is very relatable. He has personality and in that instance it really helped. Thanks for everything and especially the Star Wars and Star Trek stuff..... Only he will understand that. I AM PISSED OFF AND HURT:  My mother passed away 9/26/17.  This place has had her body since then.  I was told she would be cremated on or before 10/11/17.  I called 10/12/17 to see if I could pick her up early as when I made the arrangements I said I probably would wait until that Saturday as to not miss work...  and she's still not cremated.  Something about a doctors signature... well, it would have been nice if they would have called me and told me "SOMETHING" BEFORE THE 11TH.... instead of me finding out when "I" called them ON THE 12TH!!!!  WTF!!! I called 10/13/17 to check status... "well, we're still waiting for the doctors signature"  I had to get involved... I had to call the long term care facility my mom had been at only to find out they DID sign the form and then I called these people back only to find out there was another form they sent the facility that needed the doctors signature as well... I again called the facility back to tell them another form/signature was required but they had not received it... when the cremation society did not receive it back signed ....  why didn't they CALL THE PLACE THEY SENT IT TO FOLLOW UP... who faxes stuff now a days ANYWAYS!!!  SCAN & E-MAIL!!!... and who doesn't call to make sure someone got something this important????... I just want to grieve I don't want to have to do their job after paying so much for the service.... unforgivable!!! I had to make several calls back and forth... who lets someone grieving the loss of their mother do this!!! I swear they are so lucky that I didn't plan a memorial service for this weekend.!!!  Being kind with any stars at all!!!  I WANT MY MOMMA HOME!!!!  Bad enough I can't have "her" back... but now I don't even know when I'll have her cremains!!! Monday, 10/16 I called to again check status.  They said they have the permit and would be cremating her that afternoon/evening.  That I would be able to pick her up Tuesday after noon.  Tuesday morning I called to verify and asked if I would be able to pick her up and was put on hold briefly.. .the lady Anney came back on the line and said that she remembered and that she told me yesterday that I'd be able to pick her up after noon... said it rather snotty and my religion almost left my soul.. after all that I'd be a fool not to still check.  I told her I of course called to check because I don't want to take off work to only find she's still not ready!!!  I swear... I'm going to find out if they have a corporate or affiliation that needs to know about the way they handle this... this is what they do!!! I must say this: My very first face to face contact with this place was awesome. The lady that took care of me, Diana was comforting and made me feel like everything was going to be alright. The ease of it all was fantastic. Just sorry everything else after that tarnished my feelings for this place. Gabby was helpful on the phone... but Annay... I need to find the peace of mind to forgive the way she talked to me on Tuesday. Oh and in case you didn't know.. If a person is overweight (between 251 & 400) it's way extra!, over $400 more!! Wonder how much if they're over 400 lbs? And pacemaker removal/disposal $50... argh. Going to leave work early today, 10/18/17 and go pick her up. Pray it goes well, or I'll be right back on here! All went well picking mom up... Diana was very apologetic for my experience and checked to see if they could give me the digital copies of mom's fingerprints... got them. Thank God! I had my husband cremated recently with this service, they were very nice and sensitive when I came in to start the Cremation process and pay for their service. But when it came time to bring my husband home I had to call them and then the woman who answered the phone was rude and said she call me back within the hour. After 3 hours I called back and was finally told I could come pick up my husband. When I came to pick him up they were supposed to give me a flag since he was a veteran but didn't have any. Said they would get one and call me to get it. It's been a month and of course, no call. No surprised but still disappointed. read more

When my father died, Hospice referred us to the cremation society. Our initial contact was fine, not warm (they might be afraid to smile when dealing with people who've just experienced the death of someone close to them) but business-like and simple. There was no sales pressure or upsell. That was a great relief ! When we got the death certificates, we discovered a mistake, which normally can take up to two weeks to get corrected in Sacramento and then at the County of Los Angeles. I live out of state and flew in to get the death certificates and handle banking issues, so this was a big problem. That's really when I got to see into the quality of this group. John handled the situation with such integrity and compassion. He obtained the assistance of a co-worker in another branch, who was very warm, professional and easy to work with. They were able to pull strings to expedite the process. I was able to drive to downtown and get the amended death certificates in my hands in 48 hours. Mistakes happen when human beings are involved. How it gets handled -- that's where true character gets exposed. If the need arises, I would utilize the Cremation Society again without hesitation. read more
