Always have had mixed feelings about here. I have been a part of some big family gatherings here where food orders have not come out as asked. I have also come here with a small party, like tonight, and everything is well. We, party of four on a Sunday night, were seated at a table in the bar because there were no booths open. When one opened up we asked the manager who was passing by if we could swap tables and she was very accommodating. It was busier than expected, service was slow to start but we were in no rush. We ordered mozzarella balls which were ok. I had a chicken parm, had better had worse. Pasta was a little chewy. My grandma wasn't happy with her filet, tough. My grandfather felt his chicken that was his pasta was also tough. Dessert was good as well as our cups of coffee. All and all a nice place to come. I wouldn't mind trying their pizza next time I come in, just wasn't feeling it today. read more

We had been wanting to try this place for a long time, but every time we checked online for reservations, it was always fully booked. Finally, after a long road trip, we called and were able to get a table. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The drinks and appetizer arrived quickly--drinks were good, but the appetizer was not. After that, we waited over an hour for our main courses. It honestly felt like our order may have been forgotten until I asked the waitress how much longer it would be. What made it more frustrating was that the restaurant didn't seem very busy, so the long wait was hard to understand. When the food finally arrived, it was extremely salty and barely edible. We ended up paying and leaving without finishing our meals. The service was also lacking, as the waitress was not attentive throughout our visit. Wow - it's been a while since I've experienced a restaurant go off a cliff like this. I've been her 20 to 30 tines, mostly for pizza. This had been a reliable place to hang with an old friend while back in town. Anyway, I sensed quality had taken a hit the last time about four months ago, but this time I didn't even want to box up the leftover pizza. I had to ask for a steak knife to cut the crust. We went to La Cucina for our Easter dinner. The restaurant was very busy as expected, but we got a waitress who did not take our order for about 30 minutes after being seated. She ignored our table all while serving other larger parties who were seated after us. Their orders taken immediately and food delivered. We had to flag down a very nice waiter to get bread for the table while we waited for our food. Meals arrived 1 hour later by someone else. Everyone enjoyed their meals as the food it was good. Our waitress did not return again until the restaurant was mostly empty. Again we had to flag her down for containers and the bill! From bank to bar to casual dining, this place has it all! When you walk in, you are created with a giant bar, which has a nice feel to it, plenty of spots. This is the bar and a bunch of booths around the bar. So this is a great spot to go before you eat and get a drink. In the back, there is a bunch of seating ! Cannot say enough great things about this place. It gets pretty busy at times but imo it's worth the wait. Staff is generally pretty attentive and friendly and the atmosphere is perfect. I almost always get a steak (filet or strip) and it's perfectly seasoned and cooked every time. The drinks are good, sides are delish and I've never had a bad experience. Hit or miss at times in the bar as there's maybe 1-2 bartenders who could be more attentive but won't stop me from coming back. If you like live music they've usually got a solid local artist jamming away. read more

Went to dinner recently and waitress came to take our drink order, I ordered a margarita and she proceeded to tell me they don't make margaritas,even though they have a margarita flight on the menu and another cocktail similar to a margarita on the cocktail menu. It was very strange that I couldn't get a satisfying answer on why I couldn't get just a single plain margarita. This will affect our return in the future. read more

And, the waitress up charged me for top shelf liquor and a "tall" drink neither of which I ordered. Other tables received dinner rolls around us, which we did not. We absolutely love this local place. I had a surgery that has given me some difficulty swallowing and this recent trip was my first eating out in five months. They made it an utter delight. They gladly accommodated some of my weird requests like no ice in my lemonade so I could use a thickener. We had mulligatawny soup as an appetizer special that was delicious. Our first time trying that. My hanger steak was perfection as always and really enjoyed the fiddleheads on the side and the cauliflower purée. My husband enjoyed his fish dish a lot. The crème brûlée was delightful but my husband has not stopped dreaming about the strawberry shortcake. Something about the cake was not the standard and he utterly loved it. It's a special dessert and not always offered but he has called several times asking for it (no luck catching the right day just yet) several times! Presentation is always so beautiful and enticing. Went here for the first time last evening with a friend and it was wonderful. Atmosphere: romantic lighting. There was a live musician. Warm, but not too warm. Very small/single stall ladies room. Parking lot shared with other businesses. Drink: Tito-Jito. My goodness was this amazing. SO refreshing. I could picture sipping these on a patio all summer. My friend had a glass of cab. Food: I cannot say enough about the fried cauliflower appetizer. Sweet, spicy, perfectly tender .... Huge portion. Can't wait to get that again. Brought home for my husband and he was swooning. We both had the short rib sub mashed potatoes instead of polenta. The roasted carrots were perfect and so good. The potatoes and short rib were both great - loved the crispy onions on top. Large portion. My friend raves about their chicken francaise too. She had salted caramel cheesecake for dessert which she said was good. I had the crème brûlée cheesecake special which was good but the brûlée piece of it was really a miss. All in all a really great place. Extra points because you can make reservations on line also. Ordered again for takeout last night, and it might have been the last straw. Ordered two pizzas, salad, and fried cauliflower. The salad had no complaints. The pizzas were horrible, and the worst I've ever had from La Cucina. Both pizzas were so undercooked, the cheese was not melted, and the crust was a soggy watery mess. My pizza looked like it was held at an angle and everything slid to one side. My son's personal pizza was so undercooked the mozzarella still had its unmelted original shape. Cauliflower wasn't crispy, and was again soggy. I've had it with this place. We've spent a lot of money on takeout here, and have gotten burned for the last time. Both pizzas, except for a few slices went in the trash. We didn't even bother complaining, because it was late, a work night, and they don't take criticism too well over the phone. I wasn't about to drive back there again to pick up food they messed up again. Lesson learned. read more

Dinner with the folks to celebrate birthdays. We have eaten here a dozen times over the years and usually good. Not this night. Calamari was rubbery and tasted fishy. Hopefully we feel okay tomorrow. The street corn was cold. The striped bass was overcooked and dry. Drunken lobster was drunk. Limited lobster and what was there was tough. On a positive note the braised short rib and the salmon were decent. Lastly on service, we intentionally delayed ordering meals after appetizers but they showed while we were still eating the apps. I ordered take out from here, I got chicken francaise( white wine butter sauce, lemon, capers, yukon gold mashed potatoes, zucchini and squash) I have included the description from the menu. I also have included the photo. For comparison, I called the restaurant since the $22 meal i received looked like pig slop and was literally dripping all over the place, The lovely(eye roll) I spoke to on the phone said that it happened during transportation. LOLOLOL Yeah right!!! That I should expect my mashed potatoes and vegetables to hidden under all that liquid because the dish is liquid heavy and if I wanted it separate I should have asked. So if you don't want your food suffocating in drippings ask to have them separate at La Cucina, or go some place else. The best part of the call is when the girl offered no resolution then hung up on me. Great management! read more

Late(ish) dinner at Hampden House was spot on. You need a reservation on Saturday night for sure. The place was packed at the bar and at the tables even at 8:30. Our server was spot on except for one request for water but otherwise she was there when we needed her and we never felt rushed. The food was excellent. I had the pork chop and it was a single bone but double cut. Grilled well with a bourbon glaze. There was some thick bacon (always want more) and boiled Brussels sprouts. I feel those sprouts could have been grilled for a bit more grill flavor in the meal. My wife said the bolognese was slightly sweet and rich. She ate every bite. Some meals come in small and large sizes. This one might be best ordered small unless you have a big appetite. My aunt had the chicken pictured and she is local and always orders it. I assume it was good as well. She didn't complain and took some home. A very nice wine list, even by the glass. Highly recommend. We will be back. read more

It's been a while since my wife and I have been out to dinner alone. We decided to go to a restaurant that never disappoints and we were happily rewarded. Luckily, we had a reservation because the wait time was over an hour which usually tells you how popular the place is. We got our table shortly after arriving and our server, Liza, excuse me if the spelling is wrong, greeted us almost immediately after seating. She was fabulous the entire evening and always seemed to be there when you needed her and never hovering. Despite how busy the dining area was, my wife and I were able to enjoy each other's company and never felt infringed upon by other patrons. As always, the food was outstanding!! We started with mussels, which were absolutely delicious and I am not a sea food connoisseur. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the Crazy Alfredo and I was beyond impressed with my chicken Francaise. All I can say is the food was so, so, so good. I wish we had room for dessert. During our dining experience, we were happy to have been visited by the restaurant manager, Maddie, again I hope the spelling is correct. She was very welcoming and made us feel like we were all old friends. I am looking forward to our leftovers and then our next visit! read more

My husband and I went there around 7:00 tonight. There was BARELY ANYONE in the restaurant, yet we were told they were at capacity. We were at another local restaurant the night before and it was much busier, yet at capacity. We like to support local business, but when you get told by the snippy hostess that next time we should make a reservation..... BTW, we've never made a reservation there. read more

A group of us were in the area recently for a wake and afterwords were extremely hungry and in dire need of a drink. Quickly looked them up prior to going inside and the menu looked good and not crazy expensive. Were told the bar area is seat yourself, so we grabbed the only available booth, it was dirty, but the server quickly cleared it. So far so good. Wish we had gotten the waiters name, because he was amazing, the food not so much. Everything was just subpar. Started with the "Caprese" Ravioli and they were flavorless! Entrees finally came out (the wait was longer than it should have been) and everything was just meh. 2 of us ordered from the Simply Grilled Section, choice of protein, sauce and 2 sides; one of us got the grilled chicken that was not good at all, the other blackened salmon that was just meh. Both sauces were gross! Bourbon cider glaze and a maple soy glaze. Best part of these meals was the parmesan risotto and I think that was partially because I was so excited for risotto, not everyone has risotto. One of us got a burger that must have been sitting while waiting for the other items, not only because it was luke warm but the bun was so soggy from the juice of the burger that it stuck to the plate, and to top it off, it wasn't good. Undercooked and cold fries. The other of us got the Chicken Francaise that was just okay. Didn't want the potatoes and veggies that comes with it, instead requested it come over pasta, which they accommodated but the flavors just weren't there. And lastly the espresso martinis were just okay. I love espresso martini's and order them everywhere, but these were just okay, nothing special. All and all, it was a 6.5 out of 10. Not bad but not a place we will go to again. read more
