Came in with my grandparents and sat at the bar. They came in once before and was already friendly with the bartender. I enjoyed my overall meal. Mozzarella was delicious. Soup was good. Salad as also delicious, lots of greens! I enjoyed my pork chop but a tad on the tough side. Saved the side of pasta for home. Mario's is my favorite choice for dinner and an event. The ambiance is so relaxing and live music on weekends. The Service is outstanding, best ever. Now the food, where to begin. One of my favorites is the Chicken Parm, sooooo good. The meatball salad is to die for, and the meatball OMG. My husband loves all the specials. We both had awesome dinners! My Chicken Francaise and my wife's Panko stuffed chicken were both perfect! Very tasty and tender and not overcooked. And they make a great Pasta Fagioli too! Which I love! Service was spot on. Waitress was very attentive and timely! never waited long for anything. Kind of a strange layout for the place. When you first walk in there is big oval bar with some bar tables then the dining room is through some double doors and seperated from the bar area. When we got there the bar was completely full (they have music here) and we were the only ones in the dining room at first then about 10-15 people trickled in. Not saying it was bad and if you wanted a quieter dinner experience it separates it from the music in the bar area. They also have another side room for private functions. We had to stop and charge our EV on the way back from CT. Instead of just sitting in the car, my wife and I decided to stop in and get a bite of supper at Mario's Cafe Ambiance. The entrance is a little deceiving. The building that Mario's is located is an old strip mall with several interior business suites. Mario's has a large bar in what was a small interior courtyard. The bar conceals the entrance to what I assume is the main dining room. There was not a clear hostess station so it felt a bit awkward to get seated. The dining room we were seated in had a bit of dark tired feel, black tablecloths, maroon cloth napkins, etched/spotted water goblets and small dishes with seasoned olive oil for the ubiquitous fresh Italian bread starter. Once we are seated, a very young, cheerful and vivacious busgirl filled our water goblets. Our waitress, Ariana, took our initial drink order. Their "soft" beverages are limited to Coca-Cola products, water, or unflavored/unsweetened Iced Tea. Rather they have a robust wine and cocktail offerings, the immense bar, and number of patrons drinking vs. dining, gives the impression Mario's is a bar that happens to serve Italian food. But don't judge this book by its initial impression. We started out with two appetizers- a sausage stuffed portobello mushroom and their sausage topped polenta. They were delicious. The polenta was some of the creamiest l've had. It was topped with bias sliced sausage and shaved Parmesan. I did try my wife's stuffed mushroom. While being tasty, it was a bit salty. We ordered our main entrees- my wife had one of tonight's specials, braised short ribs on a bed of vegetables and mashed potatoes. I had their Gorgonzola beef filet. It was served with a side of pasta. Both entrees came with a choice of soup or salad. We both opted for salad. I tried a piece of my wife's entree. It was very tasty, but had the appearance and texture of pot roast. In fact the whole entree was an elevated pot roast dinner. My 8oz filet was served covered in a very delicious Gorgonzola cream sauce. It was a perfect medium rare and very tender. We opted to split a vanilla crème brûlée for dessert. Overall the service was top notch. The appetizers were really good but did not knock our socks off, as noted the mushroom was very salty. The entrees were delicious, but again some minor things that left one wanting more. Also their Beef entrees are market price so ask before ordering if price is a concern. Dessert was the highlight of the meal. Before tip our meal was $106. The apps were $12 each, entrees were $32 each. It was a great repast while our EV charged, and while it was a good meal, there was nothing special about the meal and the confusing physicality of the place really pulled down my opinion of the place. read more

First timers last night. There to see/listen to Willy And loved everything about the meal we had. Started with the Italian garlic parmigiana chicken wings which were crispy, tender and very flavorful. Great salad, then onto our main dishes. I went with the chicken parmigiana served with angel hair pasta and my wife went with the shrimp special which were served over penne pasta in a wonderful herb and garlic infused sauced. The dish came with five huge shrimp. Carrot cake for desert was as good as the rest of the meal. When this was added to a few glasses of wine and the play list that Willy put together it was a perfect night...thanks and we will be back! read more

I've been to Mario's many times now, really have had nothing to complain about. I really have come to love their half price appetizer special from 4 to 6, the eggplant rollotini keeps me coming back! They have I think 6 taps at the bar and keep it fresh and seem to change one or two pretty often so you won't get bored. The bertenders have all been extremely good and quick on my drinks even when they are packed, and always fun and smiling. The dining room setting is comfortable and perfect for a beautiful night out with my fiance or family. I haven't had an issue walking in and being seated for dinner, but they are busy sometimes so now I call for a reservation if I know we are going out. The servers have been very knowledgeable about the items on their menu. Every waitress is always attentative and prompt as well as friendly. They were surprisingly accommodating when we had a cousin with us that has a severe gluten allergy and she was able to enjoy her meal with the rest of us without worry, as many times when she eats out she isn't able to eat if the kitchen can't assure it's completely gluten free. Food is incredible! Need I say more? Ok I will, they do specials very often and keep a good rotation on menu items. One of my favorites is the shrimp scampi with sausage, or a while ago they had a swordfish over linguine dish that I would die to have again. The servings are very generous and I never leave hungry. Again I'm gonna say how awesome the half price apps are for just stopping in at happy hour. If your local like we are and looking for somewhere to eat that has a nice atmosphere you should really try Mario's, we've tried many places close by and have been less than impressed by a few of them for one reason or another. I don't like giving negative reviews. But the truth is the truth. My wife and I went there the other evening for the prime rib dinner. The restaurant was clean, the service was good and the prime rib was HORRIBLE. It came with a large baked potato that was cold and a salad that was good. The prime rib was "flat" and full of gristle and "vain" it was almost impossible to chew. You know, when you put a piece of meat in your mouth and it's so hard to chew you have to remove it and put it in the corner of your plate. That was our experience. We were really hoping this would be our new place for prime rib. Unfortunately we won't be returning. If you decide to go and order this meal we hope you have a better experience. read more

Wow, what a gem this place is! We went with a group of 7 for my birthday dinner and had a wonderful experience. We sat in the main restaurant area but there is also seating available around and at the bar that is located in the lobby of the shops. There was live music which was really nice too! Service was a little slow but our super friendly waitress had the whole dining room by herself so that was no fault of hers. The fresh bread and olive oil is delicious. We ordered the polenta and mozzarella carozza appetizers and both were fantastic. The flavors in the polenta - cheese, Italian sausage and arugula - blended so well together. We ordered a variety of entrees. The gorgonzola filet was the winner, cooked perfectly medium rare and so deliciously savory. The beef maximillion was also very good, mine was a little over cooked but I could overlook it because of the mushroom based sauce/gravy it was cooked in. The fettuccini Alfredo was great - creamy and flavorful without being overly rich. The baked cod was flaky and perfectly cooked. The chicken Parm was good but was not the favorite of the person that tried it. Each entree came with a soup (vegetable - very good!) or salad and a bowl of penne with red sauce. The sauce had a great flavor to it, simple and balanced. We were too full to try dessert but plan to make room for some during our next visit. Returning to our hometown, East Longmeadow from Georgia gave us the opportunity to enjoy dinner at Mario's with old friends. Plus celebrate my wife's unmentionable age birthday. Thursday also is the last weekday of the prix fixe special of bruschetta, salad, pasta, 4 entrees (scrod francaise, beef filets, chicken picatta, or veal parmigiana) & dessert for only $20!! Delicious AND very reasonable usually don't go together. The decor is upscale NYC and a far cry from this suburban town norm. Service a la Karen was perfect and the owner's personal touch congratulating the Missus was most appreciated. My regret is traveling 1000 miles to enjoy the best of Italian cuisine here BUT we'll be back as often as we visit our grandchildren nearby! read more

I came here with 9 other people on New Year's Eve around six pm. We had planned to order appetizers, dinner, and drinks and stay for a few hours, however the service was so poor we didn't stay long. I will start with the positive: the restaurant has great potential. The bar is gigantic, very open & welcoming. It is situated in the middle of a closed down strip mall which offers a unique setting. There is a small enclosed dining area near the kitchen if you'd like a more intimate dining experience. From what I tried the food was actually good- the house salad, bruschetta, and pasta. Other people in my party were also pleased with the dishes they ordered. The customer service here made me never want to return to this establishment. Anyone in their right mind would have seen a party of ten coming in at dinner time on New Years as a potential to make quite a bit of money. Both of our waitresses/bartenders were so unbelievably rude from the moment we arrived. Three of us wanted to order a Caesar salad, which costs twice as much as the house salad. Our waitress flatly said "we don't do Caesar salads at the bar." All of us were quite confused and asked why. She said "they are tableside caesars and I don't have 20 minutes of my time to do that." We all clarified that we didn't need the show of a tableside preparation and would be just as happy with a salad made in the back. She then took her hands, pointed at each of us one-by-one, and said "No, no, no, no, NO CAESAR SALADS!" All of our jaws dropped in disbelief as we have never experienced that kind of rudeness in a restaurant before. Every time someone in our group ordered something or asked a question, both waitresses/bartenders would mutter under their breath or shake their heads as though we were inconveniencing them. The constant rude behavior finally got to all of us as we cashed out to leave. One person in our party asked to speak to a manager who suggested we come back on a Tuesday or Wednesday- really, that's your solution? All of the reviews on here are regarding poor customer service; if I were the owner I would be irate with my staff for the carelessness and inappropriate behavior. Shrimp Gran Marnier was so overpriced for 5 small shrimp it was mind boggling . And it was an entree served without pasta. After a hour wait for our food with no explanation we hoped at least the food would be good. I'd say mediocre at best. Veal parm tasted like a patty not fresh veal. Manager just kind of rolled her eyes about the shrimp and told my wife to eat the pasta that came with my meal. Then offered her pasta to go with the shrimp. My husband and I went there on New Year's eve and when we first arrived we were not greeted at all and there was a little bit of confusion which we can blame on it being a holiday, but it certainly did not give off a good first impression. It also didn't help that a man who had gotten there before us said "watch out you might get bark at"! Once they finally got organized and we were seated, we were relieved to have a very pleasant waitress. We ordered one of the special appetizers she described which ended up being nothing like what she said - like so far off only two ingredients matched... That was either a misunderstanding or she didn't know what she's talking about. Our other items came out as ordered but we're not fantastic. The chicken Francaise is not served with angel hair (as per usual) so it was swimming in its sauce which made the chicken very soggy- see pic. The eggplant parm was fine but nothing to write home about (pic). Our meals came with a shared pasta and veggie plate for the table- not necessary and didn't add to the meal. The house salad (that had chickpeas!) was good, as was the bread and butter, but that's not enough to bring us back to dine here again. Luckily we had a gift card so the meal didn't cost us a thing :) and they were nice enough to let us use that towards the tip as well which apparently is not something that they usually do - I don't know why. I would give this place a 1/2 star at best. We had reservations for 7:30pm and were not seated until 8:40pm. The manager and owner both came to us several times and assured us that the table would be ready momentarily that there was a group of folks taking their time and that they were doing their best to move them along. We were very patient and sat at the bar and ordered drinks. Of course we should have taken cue when we asked the bartender if she had any low sulfite wines and she replied puzzled and said "what is a sulfite?" then proceeded to ask for several basic wines that they did not have and about 5 different basic vodka drinks that she said she had no knowledge on making. We settled for glasses of Pinot Noir. After 40 minutes of waiting the manager returned and apologized for the wait once again and we were very courteous and said we were fine even though it was annoying. They offered us a round of drinks or a round of desserts. We were already on our third round of drinks so we opted for the desserts. 30 minutes later, as we were about to move onto another restaurant, the manager returned to let us know our table was ready. He sat us at our tables with a pile of menus in the middle of the table then left. We waited for another 15 minutes for our waitress to come to the table. It was at this point the false kindness to us stopped. The waitress greeted us abruptly and rather rudely, "What can I get you?" Not hello, How are you doing, Do you have any questions about the menu, I'm sorry for the wait. Coming from the industry and knowing a bit about customer service I asked if anyone would like water, appetizers, and if there were any specials on the menu? With which was immediately greeted with a very audible "Humph!" from our waitress. So she proceeded to tell us the specials. We were famished at this point so we ordered several appetizers and asked for a round of waters, we were going to order our meals but the waitress left right after we ordered the apps and said she'd be right back but didn't return until 20 minutes later when apps came out. We still hadn't gotten water or rolls so we asked for them again and ordered our meals in fear we wouldn't see or waitress again for sometime. The appetizers were disappointing. The fried mozzarella had a soggy batter on it and the garlic bread was only 5 slices of tiny Italian bread with what looked like a slice of cheap mozzarella on it with garlic powder not real garlic and butter. The stuffed mushroom was actually decent. Another 20 minutes went by without our water and no dinner. I asked another waitresses to bring us some water and she was kind and obliged. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. Not even a check to see if we were ok or needed anything. Our meals finally arrived but just the main portion of the meal. The vegetables and pasta were to be served family style but our waitress left the meal and neglected to bring our sides. Again our waitress went missing for some time. The Veal Francaise was swimming in a pool of water, no trace of lemon, wine or butter sauce, it was soggy, looked and tasted like a wet dish rag. The Chicken Rollatini was extremely dry and barely stuffed with anything. It wasn't until we were almost done eating our main dishes with reluctance and only because we were starving, that our waitress came by and we had informed her that we never received our pasta and veggies. Her reaction was "Oh Yah?" Not a sorry let me get those right away. However she did get them to us within minutes but at that point no one really wanted to eat them. They too were unimpressive. Completely unsatisfied and disappointed we weren't really looking forward to the desserts that they said they'd comp us but figured what the heck? When the owner came by our table to ask about dessert she only offered me "The Birthday Boy" the house special cream puff and offered to sing me Happy birthday to make up for the wait not the terrible experience in total. When asked about the promise she had made earlier for a full round of desserts, she replied that she just couldn't do that but would bring an extra cream puff and that should be plenty. We were offered something and she renegade that offer completely. If we had known that we would be baited and duped into staying and having the worst dinning experience, we would have left to go to another restaurant. The tiny bland cream puffs lacking in the Grande Mariner chocolate sauce came. No songs were sung and no candle as promised yet again with zero follow through. Mind you that is perfectly fine with me, but it really speaks to the poor customer service and quality of this restaurant. Thank God for my amazing company who made the evening fun and not a total bust. If you're looking for a great meal, great atmosphere, great drinks and great service...don't look here. You will not find it! ...And definitely don't stay and wait if your reservation isn't ready or expect the management to honor their words. read more

I just read my first review and I had mentioned the pasta was soft. While that didn't spoil the meal as the chicken was good, I returned there for dinner this week and instead of addressing my complaint- it was now worse. I had the special which was chicken and broccoli in an oil and garlic over pasta. Again, the chicken and broccoli was good, but the pasta was mush. My friend got pasta puttanesca which was just pasta in sauce. SHe barely ate it because it was so mushy, and left a huge bowl of leftovers instead of taking anything home. What a waste of money. My friend also said she called to speak to the chef when she got home and the chef was rude to her. So I am downgrading this review for sure, and will not be going back. read more

This is an odd setup, the bar is in the middle of a mall, but it somehow works. Service was excellent and everyone was helpful and concerned that we were enjoying. The mussel appetizer seemed bland and was not to our liking flavor wise - but the mussels were cooked perfect and edible - however we would probably order them again. In addition, we order some appetizer sampler, everything about this was yummy. We were going to order dinners but opted for soup, that was homemade ( they do not skimp on portions ). Prices are reasonable for what they are serving. There was music the night we were there and it was excellent. I think it may have been a Wednesday night. A friend and I both ordered dishes with with added chicken in our pasta (which is up charged separately) only to take a few bites and discover it was RAW! We informed our waitress and before even listening she insisted that she take the meals back to be remade. However when the meals came back both of us were too disgusted continue eating. When we got the check and the charge for the chicken was still there. When we asked the waitress she told us that they remade our meals and apologized for the fact that we ate the raw chicken. The chef came out and told us the same thing. We actually had to state the fact that they fed us raw chicken for her to begrudgingly remove the charge from our check. Four of us ate here having apps, drinks and entrees. There is a large bar outside the main dining area that gets packed in the evenings. Decor inside the dining area is pleasant, but the 2-person tables are quite small and not situated ideally, perhaps due to the room's dimensions. Of the 4 entrees, all that could be said was that they were OK, none were great and none bad. They were a filet steak ($25), swordfish ($24), pasta puntanesca ($13), and a chicken dish ($19) - the tomato sauce on the chicken dish was not liked by the person eating it who thought the sauce had a "fishy" flavor. Prices were quite reasonable for the entrees, which did not include a salad or soup. The server seemed quite harried the entire time, starting with asking for our drink orders the moment we were seated. Perhaps we'll give Mario's another dining try in 6 months. read more

The overriding experience was the worse possible service from our waitress Elizabeth. It could have been a nice meal, if not for her rudeness and unprofessional behavior. First of all, we waited an hour and a half just to receive bread and refills on our waters. She did not explain that some entrees come without pasta, so all there is is sauce and shrimp or chicken in a dish. Elizabeth grabbed our salad bowls without asking if we were finished. When she served our plates, she crossed them right over other people's dishes, under people's chins. She never came back to ask how the food was or if we needed more drinks. It looked like Elizabeth purposely avoided looking our way, in case we might want something. Meanwhile, there are no other customers in the place, except our party. I would have complained (but to who? Did not see a manager) but did not want to affect the mood of our get together. I also think I was in shock at the brazen disregard the waitress showed us. There was hardly any scampi sauce, could not taste any garlic and the shrimp was rubbery. She had the Hazelnut encrusted scrod. Way too much salt to the point where it wasn't edible. The Wilbraham Garden Club recently held their annual meeting at Mario's and we could not have been more pleased with the cooperation and service. Hard to please 45 women but food was delicious and Nikki's ability to cater to a range of tastes was truly admired. The acoustics in event room are excellent. Highly recommend Mario's for such events. read more
