I left a great review the day of install but now I have to take it back I had my deck installed by them after they told me that they did hotels, and that the deck was one of the best quality you could put I had issues with water damage on it, not from me from the rain so they came within two months of installing to re-oil. They told me I have to re-oil it every six month which I had no problem having done Then after they came in, they re-oiled it after less then 3 months and then The dew started doing water spots everywhere within a month of re-oil (meaning 4 months since the instal, give or take) and I've been trying to deal with that since August and they keep giving me The runaround like oh we are busy, or we were on vacation, or the owner is out of the country. I've been trying to deal with this problem and now they are saying that I must've done something wrong and I didn't follow the oil treatment when I've just been trying to get my problem fixed since the beginning I paid $15,000 for that deck and it looks like shit And now I have no other choice then to file for a lawsuit STAY AWAY read more

We had a great experience with LA Decks! We had a very sloped concrete part of our backyard that was unusable so we consulted this group to put in a deck to make a level space. We decided half turf and half wood for our roof. Initially, the team incorrectly measured the area and they tried to say that 0.33 of the roof was actually half. We had to measure it ourselves to let them know that they were incorrect. Additionally, they oiled the wood when it was really hot and the wood quickly dried up. The workers were great but we did not have a pleasant experience working with Noa. We were supposed to get two referral bonus checks but despite the fact that she promised us that will send us the checks, she never followed through on her promise even with our multiple texts and phone call reminders. Deck replacement. Deck resides on a slope, 36" at high point. The deck was completed and more or less met expectations, process to reach completion was somewhat less. The following documents part of my experience, depending on your impressions you may or may not choose this provider. The contract specified completion in two months, actual completion was in five. The project followed Murphy's Law: everything that could go wrong, did. Also, "Every shortcut has a price usually greater than the reward." There were a series of missteps, most of which can be attributed to the project manager: Nick. Additionally, Nick has a casual relationship with truth, declares items as gratis that should be included, refused to deduct cost of eliminated feature, and claims completion prematurely. I believe the workers were good, the only oddity was when they poured cement into footings from a height of several feet. The website is excellent, unfortunately it doesn't appear the company has all described capability. Recommendations- Check dates on reviews. When reference check, ask lots of questions. I initially asked references whether they were satisfied, later details emerged. One reference stated that it was a good company but there had been management changes, quality declined, prices escalated. L.A. Decks was not the least expensive, they were about 20% higher than other estimates. Know exactly what you want. Get permits, you want the work to conform to the building codes and you want inspections. Check licenses, go to CSLB, (verify the name on the license is your contractor). Check insurance, verify ALL workers are covered, beware if it says EXEMPT. Consider having the contract reviewed prior to signing, mine had ambiguity. Include a schedule in the contract. Request prior notification of their presence. Do not make any payment before contractually due. Document communications. Use cameras to oversee worksite. My experience began with Project Manager Nick's contention that a permit was unnecessary, he contended the job was a repair, not requiring a permit. I did not want to begin prior to March 1, 2025 when funds would be available but Nick pressured for a start date of February 24. They demolished the prior structure, but not the foundation even though the new structure would only be partially utilizing, construction began. The new deck framework has treated wood on dirt, while not expressly against code, many advise against. Nick repeatedly pressured for payment prior to March 1 and later prior to a phase completions. Funds were transferred March 1. Construction continued including wooden railing. Nick queried for color, I wanted it to match the house trim, brown, (included the manufacturer and color code). It was painted khaki. Nick claimed it was the color I specified. Received a stop work order from the city March 4, 2025, the city charged: construction without a permit. Also, received a threat of a mechanics lean from Ganahl; L.A. Decks claimed that was an automatic email sent to all clients. L.A. Decks didn't have a business license for the city. It's a requirement to conduct business in many cities. Nick thinks I should supply, it is a deductible business expense and is valid for any work the entire calendar year, not a specific job. We needed architectural and engineering plans. An additional cost to me, Nick hired firms (not in house as one might expect given their website). They drew diagrams of the existing structure which went to an engineer, the plans were submitted to city planning followed by building and safety. The plans were approved May 14, 2025. The city was very fast at turn around. Nick claimed the holdup was the engineer. Nick requested that I pull the permit because "it would be easier." First inspection was framework, inspector stated: the structure did not match the plans, fail. They added additional footings, second inspection for framework and foundation, second fail. Significant additional work. Licensed contractors are supposed to build to code, why was so much additional work required? For over three months I was unable to exit my house via the rear doors. June 23, they put down sheathing so I could walk on the deck. Unfortunately, at this point, they were nearly ready to cover the framework. They also put sheathing on the steps, the workers stepped through it. Although I never commented on it, for most of the build a growing pile of refuse resided in the yard. There were also piles of dirt and debris everywhere, I picked up daily. Prior to the third inspection, Nick arranged for the engineer to do a "Structural Observation". June 25, 2025, the inspection, contractor tried to show the inspector the report, inspector was not interested. This inspection was cursory, passed. Cover material arrived that day, work towards completion began June 26, 2025. July 3, cover material complete. July 24, deck complete. Not my first foray into remodeling, all had issues, this one was unique. read more

I have followed instructions on oiling and have reached out to this company about this and they are brushing me off. In my contract it stated there would be a supervisor /owner on property everyday . I hired LA Decks 4 years ago to install a deck for me. The experience and quality was top notch so I recommended them to my neighbor and relatives who both hired them. I worked with Ron at the time. Recently, I called LA Decks for a quote to re-install deck planks I had to remove for an electrical line upgrade. The only work required was to re-install the existing Azek planks with new screws. Tal, from LA Decks, showed up to give me a quote. His quote to re-install the 400 sf of the planks was.....$13,000 !! I was obviously shocked and gave Tal a call to discuss, he said the cost is what they typically charge for labor. The next day, Tal texted me to expain the reason for the cost and said "The cost of the screws alone are around $4k." I promptly responded telling him I found the screws online for $450. He then said "My bad..labor and screws for screwing the deck in." I said that was all I needed done. I ended up hiring a different company for $3,500 and they did a great job. This company used to be great, but have gone down hill. I would not recommended, and if you do get a bid, I highly recommended getting another bid as they are trying to rip you off. AVOID. read more

Contractors typically annoy me. They hardly ever arrive on time, clean up after their work or live up to their promises. LA Decks is the exception having proved time and time again over the course of a long project that they do what they say they'll do and get it right on the first try. They have crews that specialize in each individual area (the deck itself, kitchen/barbecue area, fencing, stucco and paint) and each of them is led by a foreman with experience and patience. We are more than pleased with the end result - we are delighted. Visitors have been stunned at the beauty and quality of the final product. The most important endorsement I could offer is that given the opportunity to do it all over again I'd choose to work with them without hesitation. They're honest, professional and prompt. Really dissatisfied with my interaction (or lack thereof) with LA Decks. Noa came to evaluate our project and give us an estimate and while she seemed cold and uninterested while at our house, I figured maybe she was just having an off day. It's been a month and two follow ups since she came and I still have yet to get an estimate. I'm not sure why it would take a month with zero communication to me as to why an estimate hasn't been produced, but it's not like it's a wild project - it's a backyard update which should be their bread and butter. Very disappointing and I wish I hadn't wasted my time when they made it clear I wasn't worth theirs. Update: While they have responded below, most of it isn't true (I said the seating area could be raised vs sunken in, and Noa agreed). And while the responder below does say they don't think the project is a good fit, it shouldn't take me writing a review on Yelp for them to say that after I took time out of my day to walk them through the project, follow up twice over the course of a month, etc - they should've been proactive and just said that rather than say the project was doable and that they'd give me a quote in 2-3 days. We interviewed 4 different deck building companies when we decided to replace our 720 square foot deck in West Hollywood. Naama from LA Decks was the most prepared and professional of everyone. She supplied their contractor's license, references, and samples of all the deck materials we were interested in using. She dropped off additional samples and answered all of our questions quickly and clearly. LA Decks also offered the best price over their competitors by a substantial amount. Our experience with LA Decks is not what I'd call a good experience. We wanted to build a deck in our back yard, along with a new railing and a new patio cover (awning). The gentleman that came out for the estimate seemed to be nice, knowledgeable, and reliable, so we decided to go with LA Decks for everything. They quoted us an estimate and told us the whole project would take approximately 3wks (not a gurantee, but the contract stated the majority would be done in that time). My issues with the company was: 1. Lack of communication. Unless we called and asked, we were never told what was going to be done, what time they would come out or when the next stage of the project would begin. In the beginning they seemed to be working on our house daily, but then they wouldn't come certain days and at one point it stretched to a week. If they would let us know what was going on, we would understand, but it was a pain for us to always contact them to try to find out what we should be told in the first place (and for a lot of money at that). After a while we had to threaten with a breach of contract for the owner to step it up and be more responsive to our calls and texts. 2. There were some delays, so I understand it can take longer than the original estimate, but instead of 3wks, the project took 3months to complete. It was very frustrating to see the lack of progress when the backyard was so disorganized and full of debris. Our estimate was increased as well, which I understand can happen. We re-negotiated and settled on a new price, and then they tried to bill us for more. It was eventually resolved, but it was still upsetting. 3. Employees were not consistent, so we would have different workers on different days. We were never sure who would show up to work on our house. 4. One day they left our garage door open, our door between the garage and the house wide open and left the premise. I was shocked that they would be so careless with someone else's house with no regard for safety. I was actually home alone and did not know they had left, so anyone could have not only stolen things from our garage, but walked right into our house. I was livid when that happened, and my husband talked to Victor, but after that it was really hard for me to trust them working on our house when we weren't home. 5. The workmanship was not what I would call detail oriented. Even now there are some areas of the railing that has uneven paint. At a certain point, we just wanted to finish the project and move on, so we were done with having to ask them to follow through on things. I gave them 2 stars because we do like the deck, which was done first. The overall process was stressful and frustrating for us, but I know some people have had very good experiences with them, so it might just depend on what you need done. Every contractor was concerned about it and a couple flat out said they couldn't do it. One of the contractors we hired didn't even show up on start day. She explained everything and sent a detailed estimate. We knew exactly what to expect from start to finish. The owners Noa and Victor were available and involved in the process as well. Victor came out to make sure that Tony and his crew knew what we wanted and how to do it. Tony and his crew are top notch! They showed up on time each day and were professional, respectful of our space and very friendly. We had a couple of snags with the foundation but they happily backtracked and rebuilt the problem area and it turned out perfectly. All this was done with a with a smile on their faces from start to finish! We have a couple more phases to our backyard hardscape that we plan to do soon and we are looking forward to having LA Decks back again soon. LA Decks (Noa and Victor) are simply the best. My husband and I bought a house in 2014 with an amazing view of the city. We wanted to build an extended deck that would connect the upper and lower patio and make use of a large wasted hillside outdoor area. We met Noa about 2 years ago looking for companies that specialize in hillside decks. Noa showed up on time and was very opened to ideas and understood what we wanted. Fast forward to a year ago when my husband and I were ready to pull the trigger on our project after dealing with an unreliable designer that gave us the run around Noa and Victor took over our project, low and behold we had to deal with another nightmare called "LADBS" (or just BS). The design of our new deck was to be reinforced on a newly built retaining wall that boarder our property, but because the previous owner did not follow-up on all the proper permits with LADBS the plans on record did not have the existing wall. LADBS would not approve our deck design without building a another new wall (totally unnecessary). Noa and Victor fought for us and stuck with us through a long process of proving to the city that the existing wall was built to code. After several visits to the city and numerous onsite inspections (Victor was on time for every visit) and soils reports - LADBS approved our wall. The process to get the wall legalized took at least 3 months of back and forth with LADBS - at times we were ready to say "screw it"....LA Decks had our backs and kept fighting. LA Decks went above and beyond to help us through the entire process, working with the city and the previous owner to get the wall permitted. LA Decks' crew were very professional and respectful of our home and neighbors. LA Decks' office staff were responsive and updated me regularly. LA Decks' work was impeccable and the end result way exceeded our expectations. LA Decks delivered for my husband and I and made our Deck dreams come true.
