I believe this was their opening weekend, and they had a beautiful array of cupcakes, cakes, and cookies on display. We tried the carrot cake, a cupcake, and a chocolate chip cookie. Everything was absolutely delicious. The cookie was thick, moist, and perfectly balanced--not too sweet, just right. The carrot cake was just as good: soft, flavorful, and completely delectable. The inside of the shop is adorable, especially the pink interior. It feels welcoming and super cute. The owner was behind the counter and she couldn't have been nicer--very friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about what she does. She also mentioned that they create custom cakes, which I'm really excited about! We can't wait to support this new local business and look forward to having them in the neighborhood for a long time. I don't come often because parking is always a nightmare, and tonight was no exception. When I showed them the app, the staff seemed confused on how to do a redemption. So they had to call the owner for help. The owner apparently told them not to honor the redemption because they were in the process of switching rewards program platforms, and what used to be a 50‑point reward was going to be a 300‑point reward. The staff said my points would transfer eventually, but I only will have 63 -- not enough under the new system. Hey, I'm no entrepreneur. But I am a customer who eats out all the time. And to me this is a textbook example of an owner who doesn't get customer service. I drove all the way there, dealt with the parking, and came specifically to redeem a reward that still showed as valid in their app. It's not my fault their system hadn't switched over yet. These cakeball and truffle treats are only the size of a donut hole. It's not one of their higher end desserts. The obvious right move would've been to honor the reward and give the customer the treat. But nope. They chose the stingy route instead. And with that one decision, they lost another customer. I stopped in on a very busy spring break afternoon to sample the wares. Got a banana pudding cone. The dessert is ice cream and banana pudding layered into a cone, topped with sprinkles and drizzle. The cone is heavily crusted with sugar sprinkles and is very crunchy. The cone is served in a cup, which is great for catching the crumbs that come off the bedazzled cone. It's good pudding, and includes the traditional vanilla wafer sandwiched deep in the cone. The mix of ice cream and pudding was very tasty. You also have the option to get cheesecake instead of ice cream in the cone. They also sell it as a parfait. There are many options to choose from here--cookies, dipped cheesecakes, and some unique specialties like candied grapes. It can be a bit overwhelming. The cone set me back $14 with tax and tip, and even now that seems like a lot. But I don't think it's out of the ordinary for a food truck, they have to charge a price that will cover the overhead of running a truck. Dessert trucks are a good choice at La Plaza de los Food Trucks right now becase during crawfish season Texas Crawfish takes most of the oxygen. Having a complementary business makes good strategic sense. From Jay's website she appears to be an energetic and entrepreneurial college student, and the truck is a family affair.
