I have never seen or tried a maruesquite before and wanted to try it after seeing it online. I was in the area recently and decided to stop by. When I got there, the place looked very vibrant with bright colors and signs, advertising their specialties. Though I am Mexican, I'm not a big fan of spicy things and asked if I could get the maruesquite without the Valentina hot sauce, as I wanted to just enjoy it like a plain esquite, with just butter, mayo, cheese and a dash of chili powder. As a Yelp Elite, my 5 stars are based on food AND service. After I ordered the maruesquite without the chile, I could hear the girl who took my order, jokingly telling the staff my request. I'm guessing one of them didn't believe her so he actually walked over to me and asked "no pica?" And I said "yes, no chile please". After that I heard group laughter. This has happened to me at other places too. I don't speak fluent Spanish, but I've been around it enough to know when I'm being made fun of. The maruesquite? Absolutely fabulous. Perfect flavor experience. A 5 star for sure, but the way I was mocked for my preference of low heat? That knocked this review down to a 2. Absolutely unacceptable. I would ask that management speak to its staff about proper treatment of all Spanish-speaking and non Spanish-speaking customers in the future.
