This is hands down the best Mexican ice cream spot around! Not only is it family owned and operated but the ice cream and other treats are truly authentic. I've been going to La Monarca since it opened a couple years ago and have never had a bad experience... And quite frankly I doubt I ever will. The staff is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable regarding their products, and when they recommend you something it's never a risk because everything they serve is delicious. I highly recommend the diablitos, I get mine with one scoop nieve de limón and one scoop nieve de mango. SO GOOD! The one thing I would probably warn yelpers about is that this place has no AC, which is pretty ironic for an ice cream place, so it gets very hot and stuffy inside but well worth dealing with for great tasting treats. read more

I was in the area and looked for a paleteria and found this little place on yelp. So glad I did! Place is small, especially the parking lot, felt like a battle so be alert for any spots! Anywho, I got the diabilito and loved it! I had never had one like this anywhere! First they make their ice cream with fresh fruit. I ordered mine with mango (because I'm traditional I guess) but they let you choose whatever ice cream you want. Their ice cream is water based so it isn't too sweet which is great! Then they put little pieces of fresh mango not just on top but throughout the cup, mixed in the ice cream along with the chamoy. Overall, all really good. Went with my mom and she enjoyed a nuez raspado. I don't like nuez but that was so good! They mix the nuez ice cream with the ice which gives it a great flavor! Especially if you are a person that doesn't like things too sweet like my mom. Definitely recommend this place! I am not from the area, but might just take the drive in traffic for another diablito. The Lime ice cream which is water based on dairy, instead of just shaved ice, taste like magic. I'm really confused as to why this place has such great reviews. I actually chose to come to this location because of the great ratings. My experience here was extremely mediocre. I called them at 2:27pm, asking if they made fresas con crema (because I did not see it on their menu, based on the photos from Yelp). A lady answered right away and told me that they absolutely do make fresas con crema. I said awesome, thank you, I will be on my way. I arrived here at 3:01pm exactly, and asked for 2 small orders of fresas con crema. This is where the fun starts. She tells me "oh, we are all out of strawberries" and says that another coworker is going to the supermarket to buy them, but it'll only take 10 minutes. I said sure, I'll wait. I drove a long way to get here, I didn't come for nothing so I agreed to wait. At around 3:15pm I ask again if it's going to be much longer. She reassured me that they were almost there, and it would only be a little longer. I said ok and continued to wait. At 3:34pm, someone arrives with a small clear container of strawberries, along with two loud yelling kids and another man and woman. I am assuming one of them has to be the owner, they all looked like a family. All of them made eye contact with me when they walked in, yet none of them acknowledged me, just kinda went to the counter and lingered around. This really irked me because I was the only customer there waiting on them. A simple "hello, thank you for waiting, how are you" or something would've made me feel like they appreciated my business and patience. Obviously they don't. The cashier proceeded to make my order, and it took her a while to make them. I wasn't really sure why it took so long to chop up some strawberries and dump crema on them, but I didn't leave the store for another 15 minutes. She then blandly says "they're ready!!" and I politely asked her if there was a discount or something to make up for the long wait, especially after calling them in advance to make sure they sold what I was looking for, AND being lied to/being told it would only be "ten minutes". She gave me an attitude and offered to discount $1 for each one. Yep, $1. I paid for them and left. The service left me extremely disappointed. They are not professional in the slightest, and the cashier even had the guts to give me an attitude when I asked her about a discount. I will most definitely be letting friends and family know about my experience here and I will not be recommending this place to anyone I know. Authentic Mexican ice cream that is good and fair priced is hard to come by. La Monarca definitely hits the spot and isn't heavy on wallets. All of their products are made at the location which is hard to come by. They carry a huge variety of paletas and they're only $1.50! Some are milk based and others are not for those with lactose problems. Their raspados come in different sizes and of course different flavors. Yum yum yum! Staff is friendly and helpful. Came in and got 6 paletas and a strawberry banana smoothie, which we asked to be made with a milk base (as opposed to ice). The paletas were tasty. The milk ones were creamy and flavorful with real fruit in them. The water based paletas were refreshing and not overly sweet, also with chunks of fruit inside. The only thing is that the smoothie was not very cold, but honestly I see that in a lot of paleterias and bionico places, so I'm not gonna hold that against them, but I will ask if there is something they can do to make it colder next time.
