Great margaritas and friendly service! We were in the area celebrating our friends' nuptials, and they were in the mood for some cocktails after the afternoon reception. Found La Esquina on Yelp and it was just what we needed! It was pretty quiet at 5pm on a Sunday, but things picked up. I tried the margarita flight. My favorites were the spicy ones. I was a little hungry and didn't want a full meal but was craving shrimp tacos. The owner, Christian, was serving us, and I asked him if he could just hook me up with two grilled shrimp tacos with a spicy crema sauce, even though it wasn't really on the menu, and he delivered! Reposting here: since they removed my Google review. I'm Hispanic and I love Mole. I went to this restaurant with my white family, as referenced in the review by "Jared Long,"which I strongly believe was written by the manager we interacted with. The review was posted just minutes after we left, and the tone matches her exactly. My father-in-law specifically asked the server before ordering if the red Mole was spicy. The server clearly said it was not, so he ordered it. While we were waiting, my husband found a piece of plastic wrap in his water. We told the server and they didn't care at all. We waited a long time in uncomfortable heat with no air conditioning. When my sister-in-law and father-in-law finally got their Mole, my father-in-law took one bite and immediately said it was way too spicy. I tasted it myself, and I agreed. And I'm not even white, despite the tone of "Jared Long's review." We let the server know it was too spicy to eat. He asked if we wanted it replaced, but my father-in-law said no, he wouldn't be eating it. The server took the plate away with no apology. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas, which were mostly peppers and onions with very little chicken. He was given only five corn tortillas and a small scoop of rice and beans. That dish alone was over thirty dollars. When we asked for the check, the server tried to charge us for the two Mole dishes. We explained we weren't going to pay for food that wasn't eaten, especially after being told it wouldn't be spicy. The server said, you didn't like it, so you told me to take it away. We asked to speak with the manager. She came over and said, this Mole is spicy, but everyone's level of spicy is different. Exactly, which is why my father-in-law asked beforehand. He's had Mole in many good Mexican restaurants that are flavorful but not overly spicy. Then this review from "Jared Long" appears, warning white people to stay away if they think onions are spicy. That's incredibly rude and unprofessional, especially coming from someone who seems to be representing the business. This was the worst service we've ever had. We will never return. read more

We were looking for a place to grab margaritas and Mexican food after my friend picked me up from the airport and La Esquina popped up. The food looked good in the limited pictures we saw and the menu was diverse. I'm soooo glad we stopped by! It wasn't busy at all but it really should have been. All the food was incredibly flavorful and fresh. The margaritas were delicious. Our server was amazing and so much fun. The whole time there was a DJ and they were playing fun music. An excellent addition to the Burien Mexican food spots. The inside is spacious with the largest bar and liquor collection in the neighborhood. Top shelf margaritas are tangy and excellent. The food is a far cut above your standard Mexican fare with massive burritos featuring your choice of uniquely spiced proteins including adobada, asada and even birria (goat). The most interesting dish is the pollo Al pipian which is a quarter chicken slow roasted in an earthy sauce highlighted by pumpkin seeds. The bird falls off the bone with the slightest swipe of a fork and is succulent and complex. And the sauce is great to dredge the accompanying rice and beans through. Very excited to try this place as the reviews were awesome. Came here with a friend and we both ordered Cadillac margaritas, jalapeno poppers, and two different kinds of sushi. Wait staff was extremely friendly and met all of our needs. Cadillac margaritas were a little nondescript and I walked away without even a slight buzz. Jalapeno poppers were fairly small and even though melted cheese was good in the middle, a lot of coating. Sushi was very good and presentation was lovely, but I wouldn't say it was great. Sushi at a Mexican restaurant? I had to try it! I ordered the Seattle roll with salmon/cream cheese and it was excellent. Well made, well presented and very tasty (Sushi is currently only available on Sundays). Others at the table had the street tacos and the Chili Rellino. I know they were good because their food was half gone before I could even get a pic :p The service was perfect and the restaurant itself was warm and inviting. The music was cuisine relevant and was at the perfect volume for conversations to be heard. They have an outside dining area which wasn't open when we were there (In the middle of a rainstorm) but should be open soon. There's also a space for live music which happens a couple nites a week. Came here to enjoy a dinner prior to going out for a birthday. Food and service was great, so we came back with 15 of us later in the evening! They accommodated us no problem and even had karaoke going, which was a hit! Food and drinks were great both at dinner time and later in the evening. Definitely recommend this local restaurant! Very excited to have La Esquina in Burien. Brilliant Mexican food from grandma's recipes. Fantastic pozole. Full bar, tvs to watch the game, lovely service. And...wait for it, sushi rolls Friday, Saturday and Sunday! If you're a snotty one, don't tell me you haven't seen Mexican chefs in the kitchens of some of our great local sushi joints. The chef at La Esquina learned his craft at Wasabi, and he's got some chops. They've chosen a smart selection of rolls to offer and the limited schedule keeps it fresh. First for a bar / restaurant the food was better than expected. The cocktails were strong yet tasty. Now for the food. The pork tacos were out of this world. I also had the bisteck which was a large cut of flank steak. It was perfectly balanced with spicy and flavor. I would get it again. The Mexican food is next level for sure. Great Mexican fare, American entrees and...Sushi?? We have been driving by this place for months and have been wanting to try it out. We recently stopped by for a late dinner and were very happy with our experience. The interior is cozy and inviting: large dark-stained rustic beams run overhead, high ceilings painted black with warm lighting and nicely spaced high and low tables, but the bar was the centerpiece, offering promises of hand-crafted cocktails of nearly every kind of liquor. It would have been great if a cocktail list or even a Q code to a drink menu online were available, but we were pleased with our scratch margaritas and complementary chips, salsa and bean dip while we waited for our entrees. It was hard to choose as the menu diverged to either traditional and interesting Mexican dishes or continental Western choices of burgers, steak and pasta. We swiped right and chose the Pollo al Pipian and Bistek Ranchero: slow cooked chicken with a pureed pumpkin seed sauce and beef sauteed in a smokey tomato sauce. Both were excellent and worth a return visit. The service was prompt with friendly servers. Ours recommended the churros for dessert which we couldn't pass up. A great finish of churros radiating towards a single scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a cherry. There may have been chocolate and strawberry drizzle but we were entranced with the crispy cinnamon and sugar dusted churros filled with warm custard - a fine finish to an overall satisfying meal. We told the owner we would definitely be back and he mentioned they had sushi on the weekends. Sushi?!! Whatever, we'll happily return. read more

My family and friends ate here because we were undecided on Mexican versus Sushi for dinner. We thought it was kind of interesting that they served both types of food and were a little hesitant because of the complete contrast of food selection but thought we would give it a shot. To our surprise everything was amazing. The Mexican food was good, I had the Torta Adobada, but the talk of the night was their sushi. It was so unique having a Mexican twist on the roll selection which was nice to see since sushi nowadays can be very uninspiring and interchangeable, generally using the same three ingredients with different presentations. This sushi was innovative, unique and tasted very fresh. As for the staff, the waitress was beyond kind and dealt with a busy environment without a sign of stress. The bartender made some fantastic cocktails and was quick to deliver. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good drinks, good Mexican food, and/or uniquely genuine sushi. First visit tonight! We dropped by, got a great window table and Gaby made us feel welcome right away. I had a Cobb salad and the Ms. Had a burger. Next visit will be to try the Mexican specialties. Everything was well prepared, fresh, tasty. What a treat to get a Cobb with thin sliced grilled chicken. The Ms. reports the burger was outstanding. She is not easy to please, either. Prices are reasonable. We don't drink but the bar looks great. Gaby said they have live music, karaoke at times and there will be sushi later in January. I also noticed the cleanliness. Spotless bathrooms, everything looked in good order. It's obvious someone cares about customers having a nice experience. Give it a go! Plenty of free parking in the area, too. As to the two low reviews - a one star review for a small business that is not open ten minutes after opening time is really unfair. Things happen to everyone. That review should be ignored. As to the low review for TVs that person never even sat down. I saw two TV sets, not huge, no volume and not intrusive at all. Again, just because a person prefers a taco truck experience is no reason to give such a low rating. It unfairly hurts a small business. read more

A great addition to the neighborhood! My husband and I stopped by this newly opened place because we've seen it preparing to open and we've been really curious. We're glad we did! The food was top-notch! I had to pozole and my husband had a wet burrito. The pozole was incredible, the meat was so tender and the seasoning was great. My husband's burrito was huge and he could only eat half. I sneaked a couple bites and it was fantastic. We spoke with the owner and starting in a month or so the place is also going to be offering sushi! They also have a great set up for late night. Lots of lights and a projection TV and he told us they're going to be doing karaoke. The liquor selection is really nice and overall we are glad this place is open. The free chips and salsa and bean dip that came with our food were also really tasty (especially the bean dip). First time visiting this new restaurant in Burien. Highline has many good Mexican restaurants, so any new venture must bring their "A" game, and La Esquina does not disappoint. Came at a slower time, and was graciously greeted and shown to the bar. Ordered a wet burrito with Asada and a house margarita. Before the margarita could be made, I was presented with chips, red & green salsas, and a small plate of refried black beans with some cojita sprinkled on top. All 3 of these were outstanding. Homemade salsas from scratch. All food is prepared from fresh ingredients following grandmas recipes. The margarita was house, and it was appropriately tasty and strong. The burrito shows up, and is a very generous portion. Very yummy with just a slight bit of heat. Just right. The interior is very inviting, and the bar has a thorough tequila selection. 6 taps and plenty of bottles and other liquors go along with the tequilas. Staff is attentive and engaging. My husband and I have been here on two Saturdays for karaoke and we've had fun on both occasions. The place is cute, cozy and clean. The staff is super friendly. We've had steak tacos, mango margaritas, and Chula Parranda tequila on the rocks - and we'll keep coming back for more.
