Update. As the closure for remodel approaches machines are not being repaired and broken machines are accumulating. 1 of 3 lat pulldown machines has been broken for some time. Last week they replaced 2 working machines with an empty space and another working machine. The working machine binds both up and down. This location is scheduled to be closed for several weeks, but none of the staff have been able to give the precise dates. Most confident answer (14Sep - and he stated he was not sure) is 3Oct-22Oct. The next closest location is an additional 15-20 minute drive if you're coming from the south. As of 14 Sept. 1 quad extension machine has been down for a week. 1 lat machine down down for 2 weeks. 1 lat machine removed in the last week. Abductor machine down for 1+ weeks. Before 2 weeks ago, machines were repaired within a couple of days. read more

This LA Fitness is fine. It has all the basics you'd expect--plenty of machines, free weights, and group class options. The space is clean enough and usually easy to get in a workout without too much waiting around. Nothing really stands out as amazing, but nothing bad either. It's convenient, gets the job done, and that's about all I need from a gym. read more

LA Fitness is one of the more cost-efficient chain gyms in the area and has no shortage of cardio or cable machines. Other than dumbbells, it's definitely lacking in free weights, which is fair as I would say the gym-goers here are more novice. Unfortunately, much of the equipment is out of order, and even from the looks of the gym, the facility looks dated and unkempt. While they do have an indoor pool is and saunas, I wouldn't exactly trust them for sanitation reasons. If you're a night owl, I would suggest being on high alert as crime is an issue here. read more

Update: Machines still constantly broken, and finding out from other members that the gym is closing down soon. No word from employees or any signs from the gym themselves about the closure, kind of a scummy move - closing the gym in a month or so and not letting anyone know. Also the men's locker room smells like fermented boiled cabbage or something. It's been like that for over a month. I've been to several LA fitness not only in Austin area but other states as well and this is very likely the worst one. Most of the employees just sit on their phone at the front desk or watch shows on their laptop behind the counter. The South Lamar location is closed for construction so I went to the Slaughter location and was completely grossed out by the condition of the place. The was no soap or paper towels in the disgusting locker room which likely explains the brown grime covering the machines. Sanitary conditions were a health risk waiting to happen. Literally felt like an old community center not reflective of what people are paying for their membership. Will not be going back as I don't want to risk getting pink eye or scabbies. read more

This location has consistently had maintenance issues that remain unresolved. The sauna is frequently out of order, the bathroom sink fixtures are broken, and the whirlpool spa is also regularly nonfunctional. Additionally, several machines and pieces of equipment have had "under repair" signs posted for weeks--some stretching into one to two months. It's been a disappointing experience each time I visit. I signed up for a new membership and personal training sessions at LA Fitness Slaughter Ln location in August, only to find out from another member in September that the gym would be closing in October for an extensive remodeling with no ETA on the reopening. At no point during sign-up was I informed of this major change. Had I known, I absolutely would not have joined, as the alternate location is 8.2 miles away and one a good day in with no Austin traffic would take 30 minutes to get to--completely inconvenient for my schedule. When I requested to cancel both my membership and training sessions, I received a cancellation email. However, I later discovered that only the membership was canceled, and I was still being charged for six training sessions in October--for a gym I could no longer reasonably access. Despite explaining the situation, LA Fitness has refused to refund the charges for the training sessions. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and feels deceptive. I expected transparency and better customer service from a national gym chain. I strongly caution others from joining this gym! read more

Also, be careful when bringing a child to play room, they get you, make you pay 20 then charge a monthly fee of $10, which is not explained at all. And they would not refund my money. AVOID THIS GYM AT ALL COSTS. They don't understand customer service and are trained on an auto response of "it's policy". The general manager was not content with just being rude but felt it necessary to sprinkle in a dash of condescending and apathy with every response. A lot of machines are broken and say scheduled for maintenance, I understand there are many factors involved n thisv but they should push to fix that issue asap. Update: Many of the patrons have moved on. The gym is still consistently dirty, broken equipment ignored and now the gym is continuously being opened late. Today I get to the gym at 5:15am for my workout before work. I gave the gym the extra time to open because of the unprofessional practices. Doesn't matter because I get here and everyone is standing outside. Mind you it's 18 degrees outside. This place has gotten ridiculous and for what we pay it makes way too much sense to just go elsewhere. And don't get me started on the raw sewage smell inside for the past 6 months. "Scheduled for Service" lol. God help you if the equipment you need gets this kiss of death taped on it. I'm lucky if 1 of the 6 stairmasters is actually working. 4 of the 6 have been "scheduled for service" for several months. If you're hoping to use the men's sauna, it's a good idea to call ahead, because odds are it's not working either. The people you talk to who were there are cool, so there's that. Not sure why I'm paying more than I would at Planet Fitness when so much of what I'm paying for is consistently unavailable. Seriously, do the tour, but count the number of things (machines, sinks, sauna, water fountains) that say they're scheduled for service, and just know they've likely been that way for months. read more

The negative reviews of this place are so disappointing! To run a facility of this size there must be so many moving parts, I couldn't even imagine. The gym is always clean, organized, and there is staff all around! The people who workout here are very clearly motivated, and kind. Ive never had a bad experience here. This gym is nice/clean enough. Unfortunately Austin seems to be lacking in the gym department and I have found this to be the best option.. MAIN complaint, the equipment is ALWAYS broken and is so dated it seems dangerous. I think 4/6 stair masters have been broken for months, signs that say "scheduled for maintenance". Literally when??? WHEN? It's unfortunate that we pay annual fees and it seems that no updates are ever made & still using the same defective equipment from the year 2000. With that all being said. Bathrooms are fine, sauna is a nice bonus & the locker rooms are ok too. Rant over. Do better & fix your equipment. read more

today in Slaughter gym, they let a rude disrespectful older white man shave & slather up in the public-facing shower in the pool area & that man, who was using flippers & some kind of mask, then got into a lane that 2 women were already using while the other lanes were being used by men. he was discourteous & didn't care when pointed to an available lane. dirty old white men need to be reported & women need to be respected. & that pool needs rules because that man ruined it for more than us today!! and he's been there before, monopolizing pool lanes occupied by women. otherwise, I'd give this LA.F. an ok rating read more

The women's sauna has been broken since April 2022. It is now September, and management is still giving members the same tired excuses. On-site staff says the regional office will not prioritize fixing the sauna. The sauna has always been a popular amenity. I hear women griping every day about it still being broken, and many are planning on canceling their membership and moving to a new gym. Here are my other observations: - The adductor machine was broken for months, it only just got fixed. - The pool's floor is disgusting looking. - Paper towels are consistently not stocked throughout the gym. - The studio is always a sweat box, the a/c is never set to be cooling (the studio in Lamar's gym is 15 degrees cooler, which everyone loves). - Staff turnover is constant, which further speaks to poor management/ownership. I've been going to the gym for over 5 years. I guess I don't get it why people that have come to work out can't pick up their own trash in the gym and parking lot. I thought you people were supposed to be strong and active. Guess when you miss the trash can the paper is too heavy to pick up. Yes it takes time to fix things and equipment gets abused. I only use the pool for water aerobics and it closes off and on. The pool is taken care of much better than when I started coming, and is much cleaner. Next time you throw something on the floor look around for a trash can. read more

Filthy! Like disgusting locker rooms and rest rooms. I added pics. Layers of scum on men's room floor. Hair, dirt, and trash everywhere. I am not sure how they are allowed to stay open as disgusting as it is. I spoke to a 'manager' and he seemed annoyed I was telling him how horrific the hygiene was. Both Lamar and Slaughter are awful but Slaughter is worse. I was a member for Dec. and Jan. When I would leave the gym I would be dirty. Like seeing dirt on my pants even though I was not on the floor. Tour and look before you commit. The public restrooms without doors in Zilker Park are 50x cleaner than these gyms. This gym is not worth going to . The floor is warped because of water leaking underneath. It is actually a health hazard . It has been like this for the past 6 months . The schedule is never updated . It says that there is a class on Mondays and Wednesday mornings at 8:30 am yet the teacher quit teaching these classes over 3 weeks ago . No one has any answers on repairs . No classes on Monday or Wednesday mornings . Crunch gym will be opening soon . I will definitely be checking it out . Now that the new year is around the corner , this is NOT the gym you want to join !! read more

This is a tough one to rate. 1 - they have lots of amenities. 2 - the place is big. 3 - it has relatively good hours of operation and employees. However, it's always packed with people, the sauna is usually pretty gross, and the bathrooms are dirty. read more

Today at this facility I was stopped very abruptly by the very young manager Ian, asking me to scan my guest. He was very rude and give me bad attitude. I told he he needs to work on his customer service skills, not ok. I wish he could also take care of business when it comes to damage equipment that we can't use or when they takes weeks/ months to replace the water filter instead of just stopping people at the entrance. read more

I am a running and calisthenics type of person and found ample enough equipment and space to get in a good/ efficient workout in. After 7 months of the women's sauna being broken it is back up and running. I will say that I was very disappointed with the way they handled the sauna situation. It was only supposed to be down for 3 weeks according to the note on the sauna. Also the pool at times have looked very dirty. It just seems like the management here doesn't care. I don't work out here but I wanted to leave a review about one of the employees there. I was stuck at a gas station and a nice gentlemen who is the General Manager at this location asked if he could help. He took the time to help jumpstart my car.
