I visited this gym on a weekday morning to take a cycling class. It is a big gym with lots of equipment and a huge parking lot. Staff seems to be friendly but since I don't work out at this location on a regular basis I can't comment on that. The cycling room is big and I liked the fact that that each row of bikes is in a different level (similar to a theater) which allows whoever is sitting towards the back to have a better view of the instructor. My complaint is that the cycling instructor wasn't very good with 0 enthusiasm. There were no hills, sprints and other standard spinning activities. All the instructor kept a saying was "add 2 gears, remove 2 gears, stand up, sit down". Just multiply this by 20 and that was basically the whole class. My membership allows me to access all LA Fitness locations in NJ and I've been to at least 5 of them to take spinning classes and this was definitely the worst class. read more

Absolutely filthy gym. The machines are covered in dust, actually the whole gym is covered in dust, rust and sweat. There is no cleaning product to wipe down machines and no soap in the bathrooms. Accommodating staff and good atmosphere.They are able to help me out with a special request. Been a member of LA fitness in MD before. I have been here for about two months. I got 2-4 times a week. The place I find to be clean, usually I'm able to hit all the machines I want. Other patrons are courteous, but could do a little better to place the weights in order as I have read in the other ratings, so I want to be fair. The pool is a good experience and I like to go once a week for 1:30 and then hit the sauna which is very hot and always works. LA Fitness Clifton Route 3 852 NJ-3 Clifton, NJ 07012 - December 2024 I'm an LA Fitness member and thought I'd share some feedback regarding my recent experiences with the gym for awareness, especially if you are considering membership. Most of the LA Fitness locations in North Jersey do a good job of equipping and maintaining their facilities, but as it relates to the Route 3 Clifton, NJ location, numerous pieces of gym equipment, heavily utilized by patrons, simultaneously and consistently stay in disrepair for weeks, if not months at a time (evidenced by photos taken during me gym visit this weekend). This causes long waits and high frustration among members trying to execute planned workouts. Additionally, I consistently find gym equipment and some workout areas unkempt, and in some cases, neglected. This significantly detracts from the overall experience and raises concerns about hygiene and safety. The Clifton Route 3 location is reportedly LA Fitness' flagship New Jersey location, yet the surrounding locations (Lodi, Kearny, and Secaucus, New Jersey) are far better equipped and maintained, both from an equipment perspective and a facility maintenance perspective. As a result, it is disappointing to see the flagship location falling short of expectations. Clifton NJ members pay a high premium to utilize LA Fitness, and the company should honor their patron's membership investments by providing the equipment, services, and well-maintained facilities they constantly promote when selling memberships. -JR read more

Starting to build the same reputation as the Secaucus gym. The only times I dare to go are in the morning or mid day; any other time is painfully overcrowded and it stinks from the humidity. No one in that area has gym etiquette. There's weights all over the floor. You can't find desired weight because no one re-racks. No basketball court for the past year. Every single stair master is broken. The turf stinks like sweaty feet. The pool is so dirty with black stuff, the sauna is filthy, the bathrooms smell like the mop wasn't rinsed . Camille R is such an amazing Zumba instructor. Her songs are so high energy and her moves are perfect. She has the perfect balance of high bpm music and bachata and salsa to cool down. It's the local spot where everyone from the 4 corners goes to. I was visiting back from for a few days and decided to get my 3 day pass. Their cardio deck is a joke with 8 sets of stairs but only 1 works. Most of the equipment looks like it hasn't been cleaned or services in a long long time. (See pics) Their actual lifting machines are mostly broken, missing essential safety pieces or adjustment pins. To adjust most of them for height and weight it takes a bit of getting used to since they're over a decade old. (see pics) The free weights and 45/35/25/10/5lb plates are scattered all throughout the place put back with no rhyme or reason. You'll be looking for a 15lb free weight and need to grab it from where the 65lb dumbbells are supposed to be. Nobody returns weights to the plate trees or anything. Frustrating! (See pics). There are no cleaning supplies anywhere to be found. The bathrooms and changing rooms smell bad. read more

I recently joined and began with a personal trainer named Julian. On the very first day, he really did a number on me! We started with some weight lifting, and I seriously strained my lower back! Now I can't even ride my bike! As for the club itself, the pool and jacuzzi were out of service, and those were the main reasons that I joined. Zero stars! read more

Joined this gym a few months back, was asked if I wanted to take advantage of the benefits, i.e. personal training. I signed up for a tour and training session, was greeted with laughter and friendliness, once I told the manager Julian that I needed to discuss the cost with my husband, I was greeted with disdain and annoyance, seriously, this dude turned his back on me as if I were dog poo. I have never been so rudely and narcissistically dismissed in all my days. I wouldn't care if this was the last gym on earth and I needed personal training desperately; I'd pay ANYONE else. First I'll say that the employees and trainers that work here are nice and helpful. Unfortunately, their hands are tied as they work for a completely negligent company. I have been complaining about the lack of pins for weight machines for over a month (as I'm sure others have), and they didn't order more until there were maybe 5 left in the whole facility. I was told they cannot go and buy something else to use temporarily because Corporate requires that they use the original machines pins, which will take 10-14 business days to arrive. UNACCEPTABLE. This keeps people from using HALF the equipment available. I tried to quit recently but was told I couldn't because they do not currently have a manager, and only a manager can cancel someone's plan (between the hours of 9-5, Mon-Fri). Not only are pins missing, but since 5 MONTHS AGO when I joined, several machines have been down and more have broken since, with none of them being fixed. The baskeball court has been down since as well. Finally took a swim in the pool yesterday - there is rusty equipment and doors in walking areas. The hot tub/jacuzzi was not hot at all. Anytime you complain to employees about something missing, or being broken, the employees blame it on bad customers, but it is the duty of the company to ensure that equipment is working right, and to find a way to prevent damages/ theft. Hire employees to keep watch or something. Put RFID chips in the pins. Who knows - just figure it out! Because this is not the cheapest gym and it's way worse than the cheaper gym as far as quality goes. Who knows - probably even health risks here. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this company needs to be reported to the BBB - people deserve refunds, and I absolutely want to switch gyms as soon as I can. WORST gym ive ever had the displeasure to attend. The men openly stare, all the equipment is dirty and broken, broken machines are "scheduled for service" but NEVER get fixed, no one re-racks their weights either, stair steppers have been broken for 4 months When i brought these issues up to the front desk they said "i dont handle that" and "sorry thats not my job" and offered no further assistance managers dont come in until 9 and do not stay until close so its a mess first thing in the morning (managers said theres nothing they can do about it) someone took the cable attachment i was using right from me one day - i went to speak w management about this later that day as they were not on the premises at that hour (6am) and Julian (a manager) told me he would have just taken the equipment back and said "that i was "a settler" for not grabbing the equipment out of their hands the showers are also vial and the water does not spray in the center - only on the walls which makes it extremely difficult to shower and maneuver i went in to voice my complaints to the managers and they did not offer any assistance or reassurance, said they were doing all they could and when i asked what they were doing abt the broken equipment they said "waiting for the repair guy" im sorry but no gym i've ever been to has had to wait 3+ months to get equipment fixed when i asked what their harassment policy was the response was "pull the footage and speak to the patron" when i asked jay what would happen if they did that but the patron still caused issues the only response was "escalate further" with no description of what that entails and no written policy for dealing with harassment of any kind when i signed up they told me all of the issues i was concerned abt would be remedied by the end of the month, when i pointed out that they were still major issues and not fixed, the manager julian said i was impatient and he would have given it another week before coming in to complain. he then went on to, raise his voice in my direction and continuously interrupt me while i was speaking. he ended our conversation by answering the phone while i was speaking (not great customer service or very kind imo) i've never felt so unsupported by staff at a fitness facility - they are there to get to u sign up for a membership but do not care about you at all once they have your money one staff member told me she only goes there because it's free (employee discount) and that she would never pay to workout there because of how run down it is bottom line: DON'T SIGN UP - GO ANYWHERE ELSE read more

Not sure why this gym has so many negative reviews, all gyms between 4-8 pm are crowded stop complaining. The gym has more than enough machines, the people are all genuinely cool and helpful. Really good overall community, sauna, pool, and super convenient location right off Route 3. Not good for a bunch of reasons. Doesn't open early and doesn't stay open for late night. Equipment breaks and they don't repair it. Weight machines are missing the metal peg that allows you to adjust the weights. Not always have paper towels. They also make it hard for you to quit, making you wait as a punishment for quitting. read more

Management: I was at your gym one afternoon a week and a half ago, and a woman happily came in with her dog, tied him to a machine, and worked out. I took photos but won't post them here. Since the dog wasn't wearing a vest or other ID that indicates it was a service dog, I don't think it was a service dog. My question: Why was this dog allowed in the gym? This place is a dump. I've been patronizing gyms for 20+ years. This is by far the worst. Forget the fact that no dumbbell is ever in the right place. Or plate. Or that the wet wipes are almost always empty. Or that there was a solid two weeks where there were zero (I actually mean zero) pins for any of the machines. I had to bring a screwdriver. But of all that, the worst part is how filthy this place is. There's literally moldy water coming through the floors on the main floor. The bathrooms and locker rooms are an actual health hazard. This gym is a mess. If i could give less than one star i would. half the machines don't work and it is overcrowded for the little machines they have within the facility. They need to have a better system for women including a machine for hip thrusts. This machine will help us have better control and not get hurt. The only employee i see doing things is Jonathan. I told him personally he deserves a raise because he's the only one i see every day cleaning up and putting weights away. From the pictures on Yelp/google this gym is misleading. Looked new and the green turf thingy caught my eye. It's a huge LA fitness but wow is it worn down. So so so so many people in this gym. Dumbbells are non existent because you'll never find any. People hog the dumbbells while doing other exercises. The locker room is nasttyyyy and outdated. All of the equipment is also outdated and filthy. Gosh LA get it together. All the money people pay and most locations look good from the outside but awful on the inside. Drove all the way from JC since this was one of my preferred locations. That opinion changed today (2/2). Cardio machines are filthy and 20-25% appear to require repairs. Albeit not enough foot traffic to warrant a quick repair but shows lack of priority to members. I understand litter and messy areas are members faults but it doesn't seem as if there's anyone around to clean. Very disappointed and will go to Secaucus or Kearney location going forward. I've been going to a number of gyms over the past 25 yrs and i don't have a tendency to leave feedback but paying as much as members do for a universal membership (including first and last months fees) this should serve as a heads up for anyone switching gyms or looking to join a gym. Love the cleanliness of the facility and all the machines available. We go here at least 5 times a week and it's always well maintained.

My Main issue with the gym is seeing the daycare personal on their phones at all times. I see them on their phones all the time Instead of watching the children, specially when there's kids from so many different ages. You really need to be attention on what's going on. The managers should be more aware of this issue and restrict cellphones issue at the daycare. This is very concerning to be honest, not sure I feel safe bringing my 3 year old here. read more

0 of 8 stair-masters work, they're all out of order. The majority of equipment is broken, dirty, or outdated. During covid restrictions most of the staff didn't wear masks or if they did, not correctly. They didn't enforce any rules. I still wear a mask in the gym because I don't trust anyone there. The pool is closed, there are no towels, bathrooms are dirty. Front desk people just sit behind their computer on their phones all day. None of the equipment is put back and no staff organizing. I spend so much time wandering around trying to find the correct bar for the squat racks or trying to find bar catches or clamps. Nothing is were it should be. Frustrated beyond belief. read more

Buyer beware. The fee that you pay when you join is an "initiation fee" and not an annual membership fee. You don't pay the annual membership fee until 2 months after you join. So essentially they are double-dipping. I joined for the pool which was promised to be up and working on September 1st. 6 weeks have gone by since then, so the management of the place is obviously not doing its job. read more

When I got my first membership they called and booked a trainer I thought it's just to show me around because I just got my membership. It was okay until I told the trainer I am not interested and maybe in the future and he was so rude. He told me if I can't afford right now how I am gonna be able to afford in the future lol they definitely have problems with customer service. Anyway the actual reason I am writing this review is; today I went to cancel my membership and they told me the manager is outside he'll be there in a minute and I waited like 5 min. After he came he asked me the reason etc. and he told me he can freeze my account so I don't have to pay the fees again if I want to sign up again. I told him that I wanted to cancel and I am moving away so it's not possible. It was all sweet talking until he told me they don't have the operational manager they are in the process of hiring so he can't cancel it??? He said I can mail something so they can cancel and it takes 5 business days or I can go to another location. So I had to go to all the way to the Lodi. I called the location first to make sure if they were lying about Lodi location has the manager or not lol I am not even kidding it only took 2 seconds at the front desk them to cancel. I definitely do not recommend this location especially after today. They just wasted my time and money. Went in with my girlfriend for a trial, and after the first salesman fails to sign us up, the "manager" decides to take us away from him to do a "physical assessment"... when I stopped him and called him pushy, he asks how he was being pushy and said, "it's a gym, aren't you going to work out?" I just called LA Fitness gym at 852 NJ-3, Clifton, NJ location for information because I was interested in enrolling the whole family. The reason I'm giving a 1 star is because customer service begins with the phone and at the front desk! That being said, when I called and asked to speak to someone who can assist me with information and enrollment this is what I received. FIRST MISTAKE, the guy who answered the phone didn't identify himself. SECOND MISTAKE he didn't even said excused me while I was trying to talk to him and ask some questions when he began to speak to the employee who answered the phone and left me there listening to their conversation, did not put me on hold, no apologies, no excuse me, NOTHING no manners at all. This is horrible customer service and thanks to their outstanding customer service provided by the employee of LA Fitness over the phone they just lost 4 potential customers and two of them are military! Visiting from out of town....This LA Fitness needs some serious work. Tried to do some interval train gin in the treadmill and the treadmill would go into shutoff mode after 20 seconds on speed 10. Trash on floor throughout the gym. This could be a really nice club but needs some serious TLC. Also no wipes available to wipe down equipment. Zumba Been going to LA Fitness, Clifton, RT 3, since it opened. I've had many Zumba instructors, but never like the one I just had the priviledge of accidently finding; he was a gem. The instructor's name is Henry Castle. He's one of very few instructors that understand Zumba is more than a dance class it's a workout. Henry had great rhyme, had a mix of intense exercise and dance, wore colorful clothing, spoke through a microphone and had a HUGE speaker to make the class louder and more fun. I mentioned to Marianna, someone in managment, that he should be given more classes. She seemed interested and willing. I HIGHLY recommend attending one of his classes. read more

Imagine going to the gym ready for a nice workout and you discover THERE IS NOT 1 WEIGHT STACK PIN IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE GYM!!!!! Front desk person said the pins were stolen. Yes!! Its ok to take your dues but not ok to to make sure the gym has weight stack pins. Management should have got their butts to Home Depot to get eye bolts for the machines!! Unbelievable!!
