Usually when people ask me about gyms, their main inquiry it comes down to 2 things: membership costs, and what they offer. As a prior member of Planet Fitness and World Gym, I feel this place has an even balance for everyone. This location offers a pool, basketball court (which is used for volleyball sometimes), sauna, cycling room, and room for classes that range from dancing to kickboxing. They also have a independently owned juice bar for anyone looking for a shot of pre-workout before lifting, or a smoothie when finishing up. The facility is usually clean, and whenever equipment is broken it's appropriately labelled off and fixed within a decent amount of time. I don't think I've ever seen 1 piece of equipment with torn seat padding. I admire how well they keep up on their maintenance. The locker rooms are also pretty clean despite all the traffic in and out of there. In my experience here, the staff interactions range from nonchalant to very friendly. Overall, they have been professional. I'm sure it goes without saying, but bring your own music. The music playlist from LA Fitness SUCKS. I don't think it would hype anyone at all during a workout. Fortunately, they now have free, but slow, wifi that you can use to stream your favorite workout music. I'll stick with my unlimited LTE. In all, I believe a good gym is really what you make of it. The great thing about LA fitness is that it can easily accommodate people or are just beginning this type of lifestyle to seasoned body builders. Yes, this is one of the pricier gyms to go to, but given all the opportunities and features you can utilize to get a good workout, it's worth kicking in a couple extra bucks. I look forward to trying a few classes myself!

    Improper mask wearing

Racist, ableist, and toxic environment. They do not take Covid guidelines seriously. They will also mock you and look down on you if you have a disability. They also had one worker go on vacation and come back into work with quarantining or taking a negative test. Put your time and money elsewhere. Also, part of the job is to harass people and make cancellations nearly impossible.

I've been waiting to write this review until I have been working out here for awhile, and I have incredibly mixed feelings about LA Fitness. All of these gyms are located in high traffic areas for convenience. I don't particularly love driving through Henrietta to get here, but it is my best option in relation to what I wanted in a facility that is near my home. I like using the lap pool because it is shallow, and can be used for weight training in the pool. It isn't a YMCA, so you won't hear little kids shrieking while you are training to be the next Michael Phelps. They have regular maintenance breaks, and I am confident that the pool is clean. There are three large lanes, and I only have had to share twice. Next to the pool is a whirlpool. The temperature is typically 102°F. It is drained 3 times a week. The stronger jets are towards the back of the spa. Locker rooms are equipped with a sauna, and I normally only have one person come in while I'm using it every so often. The locker rooms are spacious, and there are rows of sinks and mirrors separate from the bathroom and changing area for women need to put on makeup for work. The classes are okay. I miss M/BODY Rochester on University immensely, but it isn't logical for me to drive that far out everyday. You have to try a bunch of classes out in order to decide which instructors (and playlists) that you want to stick with. For example, I did a spin class that played country music for an hour, and I thought that I was in hell for awhile. The Zumba class that I tried was good, but even as a person with a dancing background, I found the routines difficult to follow. After you sign up, LA Fitness will call you a few times to get you to perform a 'fitness assessment' for 'free personal training' The employee assigned to you will have you perform a series of different tasks, like planking, wall sits, etc. Then they will do your measurements for your body fat percentage. If you are not interested in personal training, or spending more money, ignore the calls. I did the fitness assessment and it turned into a session trying to sell me a personal trainer through LA Fitness corporate. I found the session confusing, or like I was getting tricked. If you sign up for personal training, which may or may not be for you, it is an additional $180 a month, for four 25-minute sessions. They will offer you more of those sessions 'for free' after you commit to the personal training. When I realized this fee on top of the monthly $34.99, I politely declined. The employees that are trying to get you to sign up will persist, and ask you to think about your health if you do not want to commit to personal training. I think I am honestly doing fine without it, but others may need the extra push. That is the lowdown on that. The facilities are really nice, as well as the equipment. I am happy with my membership thus far. Meatheads are to a minimum. Most people are pretty serious about working out and doing their own thing.

Now that I've gone here for a few weeks im updating my review. Class numbers have picked up so that's good but I enjoyed them even when they were on the lighter side.No complaints about the gym in general except for the daycare. I was just informed snacks are no longer allowed...to have a child in a "daycare" for almost 2 hours with no food is just a little ridiculous especially if they have had a routine of eating since they have been there. They said because kids and allergy reasons..I can think of better alternatives than to say kids cannot have food at all. For what the cost is a month I would think things could be a little more accommodating.

Casually writing a review while I'm on the elliptical here. I would say that the RIT fitness center…read moreis the best gym around Rochester. Yes, I might seem biased since I'm a student here, but I think many outsiders agree too. The fitness center is set up on two floors. The first floor is mainly for lifting. There are plenty of free weights and different machines. The second floor has two levels. The first level of the second floor has an open floor area with mats, different machines, and a jungle gym looking structure with different bars and ropes. The second level of the second floor has a ton of cardio equipment and TVs. Beyond the cardio area is a smaller free weights area and plenty of other machines. This fitness center pretty much has every type of machine you can think of. Besides the gym, there are a ton of courts for all types of sports, tracks, and two different pools. One pool is a large one used for swimming and diving while the other pool is more for recreational use that includes a lazy river and a large capacity hot tub! The fitness center is well kept and usually isn't too crowded, depending on when you go. There's only a few things I dislike about this place. First of all, there is no steam room!!! I absolutely love using a steam room after working out and I am surprised they don't have one here (but they do have a sauna). Sometimes it can be impossible to find a parking space when RIT is hosting sports events for other schools in the field house. Lastly (this is tailored toward all my fellow students that use the gym), that awkward moment when you see your professors naked in the locker room haha!

I really like RuckHouse…read more If you're looking for a full body workout (and really, we all should be), head over for a class. It's a circuit training/HIIT style workout, where you roll around the studio and run through a series of different exercises designed to get your whole body moving and sweating and just in better overall shape. There's some work on machines (ski, treadmill, bike, etc.), weights, bodyweight exercises, and more. If you've ever done F45 or something similar, it's not far off, but it's a cool local shop with personable coaches in a clean environment with surprisingly nice facilities and even products in the bathroom for when you're through. Everyone we spoke with from the front desk to the trainers leading the session to the other folks working out seemed cool, and we'll definitely be back when we're in town. Like most workouts (and many other things in life), you get out what you put in. Meaning, if you come in ready to see what your body can do, you'll get a great sweat on. They have a shirt for sale that says, "But did you die?" And I like that. Bring your own towel.

Back again for the season. Of course the steam room and infrared sauna are not working in either…read moremen or women's side ‍

DO NOT JOIN LA FITNESS!!!…read more The reason are as follows: 1. When I initially talked to my salesperson he told me that the club was getting a red light sauna as the current one was not working, I assumed it would be soon but the sauna has not worked in 10 weeks since I have been a member which is absurd/ridiculous for a fitness club...I used to own a fitness club with indoor tennis, large fitness room, (at the time one of the biggest in upstate N.Y.), aerobics, pro shop, nice locker rooms with a sauna...if the sauna ever broke down which happened frequently as members would pour water on the coils and short circuit them I would FedEx the appropriate parts and get it fixed ASAP...plus the salesperson was not working there days after I joined so he probably knew that and said anything to sell a membership and assuming get a commission 2. In my opinion the club is oversold with memberships as no matter what time I come in there to work out it's tough getting on any piece of equipment as there's so many people working out 3. I had a member try to walk out with my jacket which I moved around with me as I worked out as didn't want to use your locker rooms 4. I don't want to use your locker room as the one day I forgot my flip flops and I got a wart on the bottom of my foot from your locker room floor 5. The main reason I joined your club is that you had a sauna versus Planet Fitness which did not 6. I have since joined Planet Fitness, both your club and PF are about the same distance and time from my house on East Ave and PF has probably 3x the equipment and space of your club, better machines with at least 2 of every plate loaded machine which usually means no waiting for a machine to work out on + they have more free weights than yours 7. Numerous times your club was dirty, noticeably the floors on the fitness areas 8. I tripped over your vacuum cord which has a 30-40' extension cord...I'm almost 77 and luckily I caught myself and didn't fall which could have been a lawsuit...I own a 4,000 sq. ft. home with 3 stories, (1875 house), and I have the same vacuum which is cordless for safety and ease of moving around and the last club I belonged to, (Midtown), had the cordless backpack vacuum so members wouldn't trip over a long cord and for ease of movement and safety and was faster as no cord to deal with...if I can have a cordless one as a homeowner I'm sure a big corporation like LA Fitness can afford one 9. I previously emailed the manager or so I thought but it was a generic email to LA Fit on a Friday and she never got back to me, I was told at the front desk that I could email her directly from the web site but it was a common email only...after I complained to her (Abby) at the front desk the next Monday she probably looked for it and got back to me in a day or so after that...I've taught small business administration and entrepreneurship at the college level and waiting 4-5 days to respond to a customer's complaint is not acceptable in a well run company...when I complained to her about the sauna she were cordial but kept giving me the run around about it and when it would be fixed and refused to give me any club credit for lack of services - the sauna - which was the main reason I joined your club 10. So I'm leaving LA Fitness and their lack of getting the sauna fixed in 10 weeks means they will lose my membership for many years to come, I've worked out and been an athlete since the 4th grade and will never stop belonging to a gym so LA lost thousands of dollars on my future membership and after the review I post which will be much of the above, you will lose numerous future members and cost the club 10's of thousands of dollars 11. The spin bikes are from maybe 2005 at the best and they are the worst spin bikes I have ever used in 25+ years...and they have maybe 2-3 spin classes a week, I only ever saw one 12. This "Gym" is like a used car lot from 1970 with sales people having desks to sit you down to hard sell you a membership for a "special deal" if you join that day...lying about anything to sell a membership and have that same slimy feeling of those old time used car sales people 13. And when I walked into the club and talked to Abby (East Ave Club in Brighton) I was told that initially I had paid for the first and last month so I have been billed for an extra month upfront so if you want to cancel they get an extra month out of you...what a scam from old time car dealers and scummy salespeople from clubs in the 1970's + 1980's and 1990's Mark McCarthy
