DO NOT JOIN LA FITNESS!!! The reason are as follows: 1. When I initially talked to my salesperson he told me that the club was getting a red light sauna as the current one was not working, I assumed it would be soon but the sauna has not worked in 10 weeks since I have been a member which is absurd/ridiculous for a fitness club...I used to own a fitness club with indoor tennis, large fitness room, (at the time one of the biggest in upstate N.Y.), aerobics, pro shop, nice locker rooms with a sauna...if the sauna ever broke down which happened frequently as members would pour water on the coils and short circuit them I would FedEx the appropriate parts and get it fixed ASAP...plus the salesperson was not working there days after I joined so he probably knew that and said anything to sell a membership and assuming get a commission 2. In my opinion the club is oversold with memberships as no matter what time I come in there to work out it's tough getting on any piece of equipment as there's so many people working out 3. I had a member try to walk out with my jacket which I moved around with me as I worked out as didn't want to use your locker rooms 4. I don't want to use your locker room as the one day I forgot my flip flops and I got a wart on the bottom of my foot from your locker room floor 5. The main reason I joined your club is that you had a sauna versus Planet Fitness which did not 6. I have since joined Planet Fitness, both your club and PF are about the same distance and time from my house on East Ave and PF has probably 3x the equipment and space of your club, better machines with at least 2 of every plate loaded machine which usually means no waiting for a machine to work out on + they have more free weights than yours 7. Numerous times your club was dirty, noticeably the floors on the fitness areas 8. I tripped over your vacuum cord which has a 30-40' extension cord...I'm almost 77 and luckily I caught myself and didn't fall which could have been a lawsuit...I own a 4,000 sq. ft. home with 3 stories, (1875 house), and I have the same vacuum which is cordless for safety and ease of moving around and the last club I belonged to, (Midtown), had the cordless backpack vacuum so members wouldn't trip over a long cord and for ease of movement and safety and was faster as no cord to deal with...if I can have a cordless one as a homeowner I'm sure a big corporation like LA Fitness can afford one 9. I previously emailed the manager or so I thought but it was a generic email to LA Fit on a Friday and she never got back to me, I was told at the front desk that I could email her directly from the web site but it was a common email only...after I complained to her (Abby) at the front desk the next Monday she probably looked for it and got back to me in a day or so after that...I've taught small business administration and entrepreneurship at the college level and waiting 4-5 days to respond to a customer's complaint is not acceptable in a well run company...when I complained to her about the sauna she were cordial but kept giving me the run around about it and when it would be fixed and refused to give me any club credit for lack of services - the sauna - which was the main reason I joined your club 10. So I'm leaving LA Fitness and their lack of getting the sauna fixed in 10 weeks means they will lose my membership for many years to come, I've worked out and been an athlete since the 4th grade and will never stop belonging to a gym so LA lost thousands of dollars on my future membership and after the review I post which will be much of the above, you will lose numerous future members and cost the club 10's of thousands of dollars 11. The spin bikes are from maybe 2005 at the best and they are the worst spin bikes I have ever used in 25+ years...and they have maybe 2-3 spin classes a week, I only ever saw one 12. This "Gym" is like a used car lot from 1970 with sales people having desks to sit you down to hard sell you a membership for a "special deal" if you join that day...lying about anything to sell a membership and have that same slimy feeling of those old time used car sales people 13. And when I walked into the club and talked to Abby (East Ave Club in Brighton) I was told that initially I had paid for the first and last month so I have been billed for an extra month upfront so if you want to cancel they get an extra month out of you...what a scam from old time car dealers and scummy salespeople from clubs in the 1970's + 1980's and 1990's Mark McCarthy read more

This place is getting worse and worse. Always broken equipment. Bad setup for dumbbells and benches - not much room to move between. Trainers have taken over the turf area, so no place to warm up or cool down. Last 3x I've been there, a trainer has asked me to move to the equipment I was using while I was warming up or cooling down. There's a huge fitness studio for the trainers, but apparently, their insurance doesn't cover it. When something I want to use is in use, I move on and come back later, but the entitled and rude trainers don't. There's stuff hanging in the men's locker room that's been there for a year. I've complained twice to management and have gotten a shrug. 40+ years of gyms, and this is by far the worst-run place. Moving on. Oh, great to watch the lifeguard picking his nose, too. read more

O la la a signature club that actually is nice inside. It's giving newer LA vibes or just maybe well kept. I love the LA fitness gyms that have the pretty green turf displayed instead of tucked away in a room. I love the layout of this gym. Seemed clean to me. Weights in place and not all over the gym. So happy to see glass shower doors and not the ugly white curtains in the women's locker room. Nice mini whirlpool sauna inside with a steam room and dry sauna (however this seems to be out of order). read more

Gym has noticeably gotten dirtier. The cardio machines are needing an update with a lot of inconsistencies in their performance (very scary and unsafe). Consistent is the layer of rust spot/soot/grime on a lot of the machines. Main complaint is the broken women's dry sauna room. It's been out for months and months. I called to finally ask and the worker very nicely explained it was a part they needed. When asking for a lead time on when it'll get fixed he was totally caught off guard. ???? Bizarre. He had no idea. I have memberships at other studios that don't have a sauna so this was a big plus for me. But it's not something I've been able to enjoy in forever. read more

I think that his gym is poorly managed. Maintenance is regularly ignored and cleaning is iffy. The electric panel for the alarm system malfunctioned recently and subjected members and staff to an ear-splitting distress signal for 3 days. Also during this time, the temperature in the aerobics room was set at 55 degrees for at least several days, making yoga impossible. Considering this LA Fitness's history, the desk attendant's assurance that he turned the heat up to 70 was probably not true. Of note also is that the sauna was shut down for 4+ years and the steam room is often not functional. read more

I mainly got this membership because of the steam room and the sauna. They are less than a mile away from my shop. The steam room is broken 60%++ of the time and they just stopped fixing the sauna. I got the towel add on so I would not have to bring towels from home. A couple of months ago they put a new rule in you can only take ONE of the big towels...forcing me to bring another towel from home. Been trying to cancel the membership for over 3 months to no avail. You have to cancel with an "Operations manager" how is never there or available. Yes, there are beautiful people there. The gym is clean. But is not what I need, and they make it impossible to cancel the membership. read more

I encountered a false advertising situation!! Be aware. Read the contract carefully; don't believe the person selling you a membership. I brought a 14 year old male who wanted to sign up for a gym. My first question to the sales person was whether this 14 year old would be able to use the gym without a guardian. The sales person replied that since he was so close to age 15, he would not need a guardian to use the equipment. So, thinking this was a reputable company, I signed a contract. The next day the 14 year old went to the gym and was told he needed a guardian. He went with his 15 year old friend who had been using the gym for a month who was also not let in that day. This 15 year old had signed up online with minimal information and had been able to use the gym until one alert person stopped him. read more

I joined. Loved one trainer. My 2nd trainer had Covid 19 in fall of 2020 and didn't tell me. They knew. They closed down for Covid and sent me to a different one. They reopened and didn't enforce masks pre vaccine. Wouldn't let me out of my contract. I had a great trainer named Reese they treated him terribly. Didnt enforce masks when it was required and didn't respect those who wore them after the vaccine. I quit in November of 2021. They stole 165 from ny bank account in December apologized and returned it when I saw it was stolen on Jan. They did it again in March and I caught it 10 days ago. I still don't have my money back. I think I will take them to small claims or see if an attorney wants to do a class action lawsuit. read more

Really nice gym they have so much you can do. They have cycling classes, yoga, Zumba, water aerobics. They have a few different locations and each one has something different which is pretty cool. Some have a basketball and racket ball. You can workout and use the sauna after or the steam room. Some of them have a lifestyle cafe you can go to and get smoothies or protein shakes. I really like this gym and highly recommended checking it out. read more

The sauna is always down. Half the treadmills are uneven or the tv screens do not work. This gym is insanely hot in the Summer. During peak times you must wait to use a machine/weights. Staff is always on their phones. Restrooms are usually out of soap and urinals aren't cleaned. For the price of this "signature" series it does not seem worth it. read more

The sales dept lied to me and told me I had six months to decide if I wanted to cancel. Lie number one . My instructor is pleasant but the sales person who had me join the gym gave me a bad taste. I was with Paul and he also heard the salesperson tell me that. So now im stuck in a gym that cant accommodate me. Lots of nice people . The sales person got fired . I was offered a promotion thru my workplace to LA Fitness, and Active & Fit. It has so far been a nightmare LA Fitness has been less than helpful to enroll me as a member, and basically told me other people have been unsuccessful in getting the promotional offer ,and just signed up anyway with no promotional price. Everyone I have talked to at the Club has given me an "oh,well" attitude and act as if they could care less about me, and don't even want my business. This has been very frustrating, and no one seems to want to help me to join. I will not return to LA Fitness. If this is the way they handle their business, it is a shame. read more

Probably one of the best LA fitness I've been to. Always clean, always great service, and never a long wait to work out. Bathrooms are extremely clean and up kept which is a big deal for me as I shower at the gym. If your in the city this is your best option for working out. read more

Showers are never cleaned. Black mold as long as I can remember. The floors are never swept or mopped. The sauna has been broken for several months. Sign says, "sauna closed indefinitely." Staff is rude and doesn't care. Signature club charges a higher rate, but the better amenities are no longer there. The only convenience is the location for some people. I'm super excited for the opening of this new club. This is a signature club, meaning there are additional perks when compared to the standard clubs. This includes things like towel service, shampoo/conditioner in the showers, separate mens/womens sauna, spa, and steam rooms. They also have a HIIT studio for HITT by LAF classes. This is want really excited me about the opening of this club. That and the steam room. My membership to LA Fitness includes access to all regular clubs. If I wanted to go to a signature club, I'd have to pay extra or upgrade my membership. I was able to get a deal by signing up for HIIT classes before the grand opening. They upgraded my membership so I don't have to pay extra to come to a signature club, plus there was a discount on unlimited HIIT classes each month. Everything is new right now (as of September 2019), and I really liked the treadmills. The machines are great - super smooth functioning! There seems to be additional equipment when compared to the other locations around town. It looks small from the outside, but it's rather large inside. There are a couple of things though, that keep me from giving a 5 star review. One is that there seem to be limited water fountains. Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find a water fountain in the spa/sauna area. When I'm in the sauna, I want to be able to fill up... so going out and across the floor to refill seems inconvenient. Someone please inform me if I've missed seeing a closer fountain. Second is that there is no juice/smoothie bar. I can't say that I always get a smoothie after a workout, but occasionally when I've had a particularly intense workout, I like to get a recovery smoothie. It's disappointing there isn't one in this location. Lastly, I'll be honest that I'm disappointed that the sauna is an infrared sauna. I prefer a traditional dry, Finnish sauna heated electrically. The temperatures are higher in this type, and I feel like I don't get a good enough sweat in an infrared sauna... but I guess the steam room makes up for this! While East Ave is a little out of my way, I am definitely going to be here for HIIT classes (YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT!) and I can see this being my Friday night reward/relax place for a workout and steam/heat therapy! read more

I visited this location while in town visiting a family member at the hospital in ICU. I explained that to the staff and asked if I could buy a day pass. The woman at the desk was so compassionate and said don't even worry, just sign a waiver. They also told me if I had to come back, don't worry about paying for a pass, it's on them. I almost cried, I needed that break. It also happened to be the grand opening. The gym is beautiful! All the equipment is new, it's so clean. There is so much equipment. I'm bummed i live 3 hours away or this would totally be my home gym! read more

Great, clean, neat, staff is friendly and helpful! I can't say enough great things about this gym. I will admit as a female that has been to an all female gym for over 7 years, I was hesitant. But here I don't feel one bit out of my element, or insecure about myself. The locker room is amazing with the dry sauna, whirl pool, and the wet spa. The pool is a three lane hidden gem that is rarely used and I always have by myself. The whole facility is brand new and so clean. I can't say enough positive things. The staff is so friendly and I don't feel dumb asking them questions. I actually going!! read more

Honestly, this LA Fitness makes me want to move to Rochester.. I live in LA, and went to this gym while visiting family. Compared to LA this place is a SPA! The pool was completely empty every time I visited, and the lifeguard was SO helpful. The Jacuzzi was also empty and clean, so i rested in that after a long swim. In LA both of those amenities would be overtaken by people and it wouldn't be spotless like these facilities were. I also used the stair master and bikes, and both were brand new. There was so much parking. I hope next time I visit Rochester this gym is still as nice! Keep up the good work. read more

Was so happy when LA Fitness opened a new facility near my work, only to be scammed for $35.00 more a month. Now if I want to go to the Signature Club it's $55.00 a month instead of $20.00. I am paying $35.00 more a month for crusty towels, shampoo and conditioner. So discussed that this is the way they treat their customers.... read more

This gym is a real gem with new machines, an open floor plan, clean locker rooms, hair dryers, private showers with doors, shampoo and conditioner, saunas, steam rooms, pool, and private whirlpools in the locker rooms. Having been a member of Midtown in the past, I can say this place isn't far behind (comparison to the equipment and locker rooms). It's truly exceptional. Rochester residents should consider themselves lucky. I certainly do! No more driving 20 min to the next closest club! read more

This location has been challenging to deal with to say the least. I spoke to customer service today regarding lack of providing towel service. When at the desk, I asked to speak to the manager there and they told me to call an 800 number. I spoke with TJ, who did not listen to the problem and simply dismissed the problem. When I asked to speak to a manager; according to TJ out of the Philly center, they have no mangers but someone would call back in 48 hours. I questioned that and they said nope, there are none. I said I would like to discuss then with the supervisor about cancelling the agreement if I can not get the promised towel service and he stated; I will go ahead and cancel you now! Since he was not listening to my concerns, or to me, I said I would need to speak with the supervisor first. I use to be with Midtown athletic club and customer service is far superior to this. I will be surprised if I get a call, but, but if I do, I will update this review. Management difficult to deal with and have made rules that do not support their original agreement with customer. Best Gym in Rochester. Brand new, clean, very well maintained and great energy when you walk in. It also has LAF HIIT which is comparable to orange theory just less expensive and better quality. Has a steam room and a dry heat sauna with whirlpools in both locker rooms. You can grab towels at the front desk when you check in. This club also has kids klub which (babysitting) for those who need it. Literally everything you need plus some! Highly recommend it! read more

Pros - all the equipment is new - location is central - free towel service (meaningless if don't shower at the gym or prefer to use your own towel) Cons - if you have an LA Fitness club national membership you have to pay extra $$$ to use the club. Was told $5 per day or another $260 on top of what I paid for the 1 year "national" membership. (apparently excludes all signature clubs) - small and has less machines/equipment than other locations. Once more people sign up here it's gonna be a zoo during peak hours just like the other locations - infrared sauna, doesn't get nearly as hot as the steam sauna, end up spending more time to break a sweat - no basketball courts - no juice/smoothie/ protein bar like the gym in Henrietta - HIIT equipment sure looks pretty but is off limits unless you pay more $$$ All in all it's pretty much just smaller LA Fitness wrapped in a slightly nicer package with free towel service for more money. Maybe other signature clubs actually have more amenities, but this ones a dud. The only reason I could see shelling out the extra money is because this location is the closest LA Fitness on the lower east side... read more

Way over priced for what you get.. the other la fitness gyms in Rochester are bigger, have more machines and a basketball court. The only nice thing about this place is their locker rooms and the fact you get free towels. Otherwise it's a waste of money for what you get.
