I've been to a lot of gyms around Houston, and honestly, this one isn't the cleanest. It feels a bit unsanitary at times, and the overall energy is pretty low compared to other gyms I've visited. The music is boring, and the atmosphere doesn't really motivate you. That said, it gets the job done. It's not overcrowded--I came between 3:00 and 4:30 p.m., and there was a steady flow of people without it feeling packed. The weights aren't perfectly organized, but at least they're not all over the floor. At the end of the day, it has the basics you need for a workout... just don't expect much more than that. read more

10+ years later and I am still coming here! Only because of convenience really. Can we just make the hours the same across the board? Why close early on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.... we want it opened til 11pm too! We would REALLLLLY LOVE a full length mirror in the women's restroom please! Most of the other LA locations have it but this one. Us ladies would truly appreciate a full length mirror in our restroom! We would also appreciate it if cleaning is done at less busier hours and if it's being done during non-peak hours, do not interrupt the people who are working out. Going around them and come back when they arent in that spot. Having the vacuum/mop hit our gym bags and water bottles is very unpleasant and unsanitary. Especially the mop. I don't think this location is bad. I didn't notice any broken equipment (huge plus compared to most LA Fitnesses), so I was able to do a push workout just fine. The fact that they have a juice bar really sets it apart from the other LA Fitnesses I've been too. The most common complaint at this location was with customer service. I didn't need them for anything, so that didn't affect my review. If you just want to get a good workout in, this location does an adequate enough job at ensuring that. read more

Not to be confused with Ella Mai Fitness, at which every member is Boo'd Up. We were looking to upgrade from the very problematic and expensive YMCA, so we checked out several LA Fitness locations including this one right next to the Liverpool Pub where we go. Like most gymnasiums (yes I called it that), it definitely has issues. Equipment isn't the issue, for sure. Lots of meathead type members here but that doesn't worry me too much. The price and the weird contracts that are really hard to get out of are the main problems. Also I remember when LA Fitness was 24 hours (at least the locations I used in the past) but that is not the case anymore, and worst of all, after the free tour we got bombarded for quite a few weeks by phone calls and emails trying to sell us the product, and if they're spending their money on that kind of advertising, they could just be charging less and getting members off their quality gym product, but the whole bugging people thing rubs me the wrong way. It would have brought in a couple of extra stars if it wasn't for bugging us and for the iffy contracts. The YMCA rules in that regard, because you can cancel or pause your membership anytime, easily, even remotely, instantly, without even a one cent additional fee. read more

I started training and with my first trainer was told that because I wasn't paying for more than one day a week that I wasn't his priority. He then proceeded to cancel on me for three weeks straight until I was charged again and many sessions behind. I requested a new trainer and was placed with their newest hire. She was good but the sessions were all of a sudden cut in half? Still unsure about that one but anyway, on my third week with her I was told I was being moved to another trainer because she was no longer available. I then asked to freeze my membership. I am a single mom with two kids and two jobs and didn't have time to make up the missed sessions and getting charged was getting expensive with nothing to show for it. They said that they would freeze it. They didn't. And I was told that I could just let it go. And it wouldn't hit my credit if I just changed bank accounts. No refund on services not rendered. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a company. Now I'm several sessions behind making payments when I don't even have a trainer assigned to me. They just steal your money and they are mismanaged by someone named John who is the regional manager. You will never see his face but his lack of doing his job was the reason I was still charged after freezing. I was planning on finishing my contract but after his lack of interaction. Eh I've never been disappointed here. Physically, the place isn't bad. There's a decent variety of weightlifting equipment and it's all in good/okay condition. Never had any issues with the equipment and it has everything I need to put on muscle. One really good thing is that the ceilings are high so it feels spacious. Being crowded at the gym really sucks, especially with covid. On top of that, the place is never really that busy. I usually go at around 10am, 2pm, and 9pm. The crowd of people is good. There's meat heads, cardio people, senior citizens, couples, teenagers, couples, some guys coming in for a break from work, and few powerlifters (THANK GOD). I'd say the mix is half beginners and half experienced people. Everyone is respectful about space and usage of equipment. A couple times someone has even come up to help with my form. Don't think I'll ever have any issues with people here. However, people never put the dumbells back and if they do, it's going to the wrong place. It's an endless cycle of unorganized dumbbells. I wish the employees would help with that but whatever. Also, some but not all people wipe down equipment after using. At least the sweaty people do. Customer service here is bottom of the barrel but I never need anything from the employees. I just come to get a sick pump in and leave. The price isn't that high compared to similar commercial gyms. If you go 4-6 days out the week like me then it's not much at all. Restrooms and lockers rooms aren't gross. Pretty clean. Plenty of lockers and sinks. Never used the showers. Rest of the building is always clean too. Overall, this is a good gym for intermediate to experienced weightlifters and cardio people. The lady at the front was very rude. She was rude the time before too. But that time, she let my guest in as I have guest privileges. She wouldn't let me use my gym tag to get in both time. I go to a lot of locations and they always let me use my tag and my guest in. But this particular lady got beef with me for some reason, I think she might be racist since I and my guest are Asian and I have an accent. She would not let my guest in this time which puzzled me. She says she's the manager and that the other people who had let me and my guest in hundred times before hadn't done their job. FYI she has black hair and glasses. read more

This is not a bad gym. I'm used to the Yale @ IH-10 location. Yale is new, this one is older with older equipment, gritty may be the proper term, no big deal. Yale has younger members, probably due to the apartments around it, here a much older crowd, but in the end, I'm not here for social, but to work out. This one is not as crowded, it seems. read more

So I would say that this gym is ok if you don't need a trainer or have to deal with management overall. To be fair like most gym chains - its run like a business and from that mindset I think helping the customer is lost - everything revolves around how you can get more money from the customer rather than helping them to achieve their specific goals. Gym membership: Don't deal with them in purpose unless you know how the memberships work - I would simply suggest signing up online. Parking: I haven't had any issues with parking going at different times of the day and different days of the week - I would however suggest NOT leaving anything valuable out in sight. Management: I have only had to deal with them once - not the most cooperative until I went a little higher on the chain - depending on your issue I would suggest NOT dealing with the manager at the location and going higher in their corporate ranks to find resolution. Cleanliness: They do a pretty good job overall keeping the locker rooms clean and Other members: Ok crowd - there are a lot of watchers so you should keep that in mind. I haven't been to this location in over a year as a one time guest. However, as it is right near my area of residence, I was convinced to give it a shot and join the gym with a friend who recently moved here. My friend, a new member to LA Fitness, invited me to use her guest pass as perks to her membership. I currently go to Lifetime fitness, but was considering going back to more commercial gym for location and to have join my friend regularly. Upon trying to use the guest pass, the guest services member presented me with sarcasm in regards to using the guest pass. He told me there was no point in using it if I did not plan to join. I mentioned that I had tried the gym a year earlier and upon the nature of the new circumstances, I would like to consider joining. He mentioned nothing did change. My friend asked since I am looking for a gym I will regularly attend that if I could try it out, in which he replied, "what's there to try out? Weights are the same everywhere. You got to pay." We understood the policy very clearly, but instead of directly informing, your sales agent chose a rude route. Although the message was thoroughly understood, the message was untactful and quite appalling. I was embarassed and disappointed. I ended up replying that I will go back to my current gym Lifetime Fitness and he abruptly said "go ahead." I don't understand his harsh sales tactics and approach to make individuals feel unwelcomed. I felt no need to explain I was looking to join if your team member chooses belittle people who want to use guest passes which are given out for people try out. I understand its a numbers game in quotas and sales, as both my friend and I are very seasoned in business logistics. My friend went back to explain to your team member there was no need to disrespect someone who was willing to give LA fitness a shot. He apparently "apologized and was sorry" but theres no more time or reason for that. I had left to my vehicle to reconcile how terrible this experience was and still could not fathom the content the sales person had with treating people this way. Nonetheless, I can imagine my 10 minute visit at this location is probably one of the many that happens to everyone to visit. In addition, my friend was very apologetic to bringing me to your facility-- this was a first time visit since her relocation to Houston. Not only did I have a very disrespectful experience, but the employee evidently failed to deliver the LA Fitness quality we expected. Showed up here and asked for a tour and membership info. Was given a tour by a guy who was half asleep and obviously bothered by the fact he needs to give me a tour. Gym is all right, nothing special with cardio equipment appearing to be 10-15 years old. I asked for membership cost, and was told that there are many plans depending if I want to pay low monthly payment with higher initiation fee or the other way around. I explained that lowest initiation fee is my goal as I do not get anything out of it! They came up with $199 initiation fee and $39.99 per month!!!! I asked again and was told that $199 is an absolute minimum for an initiation fee!!!! Top clubs in Houston like Lifetime and Equinox charge that much!! I told her the sales associate reopened my account and established this as my home club as I changed addresses, she told me they are not allowed to do so and that I had to upgrade my membership. Whoa there. I only go here because my boyfriend has access to this gym and I get in as a guest. I'm trying to get him to workout regularly since he's lazy AF but also has a freakin high metabolism. But I make him go cause I actually need a workout partner LOL. We're here about 2-3 days a week depending on his schedule. It's actually not that crowded around 7pm time. Nice. Compared to 24 hour fitness, this place closes at 11PM. Whereas at 24 they either close at 12 AM or they are actually what they say they are and are 24 hours. But I guess at LA it kinda forces you to workout earlier. There's a freaking juice bar inside. Whoaaa Think what sets this place apart from 24 is that they have at least 4/5 raquet ball courts. WHOOAAAA My boyfriend and I talked to some of the people playing, asking them if the gym provided equipment but they weren't sure. Just about everyone who were in those courts had their own equipment. There are some serious players. They've got a basketball court, swimming pool, a room dedicated to spin classes and sauna. Just about everything you could need at a gym. Other interesting things about this place is that, on most of the cardio machines like the treadmill and bikes have a fan built in. Wow. I'd at least like to know I'm working hard by sweating. But hey, its cool though. I can agree with fellow yelper, David N. that it is a bit weird having a gym where people are dressed nice. I even got that weird feeling leaving at 10pm one time and seeing people leave Dave and Busters. To say the least, I actually like this place. They do the absolute bare minimum by putting out hand sanitizer and are trained to say "well the governor removed the mask mandate so we can't force anyone to wear a mask" which is completely untrue. It has been lots of years since I've been to a gym. I'm more of an exercise-on-my-own kinda gal. But when my boyfriend joined LA Fitness and asked me if I wanted to do a two week trial, I said yes. I went almost every day of that trial period, and fell in LOVE! I spent most of my time there in the group fitness classes. Zumba is my favorite! I have so much fun and the instructors are great. So, fast forward two weeks, and I knew I had to join. It's been almost a month now, and I am still going 5-6 times a week to the classes. Love, LOVE! I don't spend much time in the weight area, but it looks like there is a lot of equipment. There are a lot of treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes. A few rowing machines. Average gym, got everything you need. Went here to try it out just to get a workout in while I was visiting in town. Of course when you sign up online you have to go through the process in the beginning of meeting the staff and having to answer the usual questions. I went by myself but the person who gave me the tour and initial question and answer session didnt really know how to relate and/or read people. I was constantly called "bro" and my wife called "your girl" or "your woman" and after he found out that we didnt have any kids he said "thank goodness, dont want that yet"...probably not the best representation for the gym. If I could leave 0 stars I would, John originally helped me get my membership and I ended up paying double (said I would get a refund in a couple of days which never happened since he never cancelled the second portion of the payment) I ended up having to call customer service so now I have to wait another 5 days to see if I get my refund. They also didn't have needles for the basketball air pump and apparently don't lend out basketballs since COVID and the next day they didn't have towels due to the dryer being "broken" which was inconvenient. Terrible service and most unprofessional staff and trainers imaginable! First they try to push you into signing a personal trainer contract. Their sales person Divinity called me like 9 times in a row while I was working, and would not let go until we went to the gym and were "tricked" into signing a contract!. BEWARE BECAUSE: When you get in, they act very professional, give or I should say trick you into a personal assessment, take your BMI, and show you the goals they will achieve. Next they offer you packages, telling you that you are getting 30 minutes per session, and that the trainer will give you 35 minutes per session. IN FACT, EACH SESSION is 25 MINUTES short, and you do really not get anything out of your work-out Our trainer was unprofessional, and poorly explained the equipment to us. On one machine, my girlfriend actually corrected him on how the machine was supposed to be used, and I ended up PULLING MY HAMSTRING. You would think that a "trainer" provided by a gym would warm you up, and tell you to first stretch and slowly start weights for muscles we haven't used in a while. NOPE, all wrong. We just did something, and there is NO need for a trainer to show me how to use a machine. A professional trainer should provide a plan, and set goal for you, and we got NONE of that. We went to complain about our service, and kept getting the run-around. First, our sales person Divinity kept saying that someone will call us, which never happened. After calling about a dozen times, I finally got to speak to the "Operations Manager" Mike, who assured me that now that this is in HIS hands he will be able to help us. We also kept getting the run-around from Mike, and they kept telling us that the trainer manager "Jason" will contact us. We continued calling, and they kept telling us that Jason is on a "conference call" and will call us back shortly. All a lot of BS. We left Jason multiple voice messages and never even got a courtesy call back. Jason must be either scared to talk to people, or just know about this SCAM and not give a ..... about people that they steal money from. OVERALL: Be Aware of these people tricking and lying to you. They first promise you everything, and once they get your money, they do not care about you at all. If I could give all of these people a NEGATIVE rating, I would. The gym is OK. Location is good. But the TV attached to the equipment works sporadically. Only the FOX channels are consistently working. There are no other news channel alternatives. Once in a while, CNN works. There should be more free channels like NBC or CBS, etc. read more

I've been a member at this LA Fitness for about two years now, and let me tell you that I REALLY wanted to give it more stars. I thought that their average star rating seemed low... but when I actually took a good look at the gym I realized that it IS only A-OK. I've only come after work (between 5-8pm) and a few times on the weekend, so I'm not sure how the early morning or day traffic is, but the times I've been there the place is packed. It can feel a bit claustrophobic, and if you're already insecure about coming to the gym, having people stare at you as you walk down the cramped aisle can be enough for the weak-hearted to call it quits. It's definitely not the biggest gym that I've been too, nor is it the nicest. They have a decent selection of equipment to choose from, including a whole upper level dedicated to cardio, which is great, but the place is packed if you come after work. I haven't had to wait for a machine yet, but I'm also flexible with my machine of choice. If you're only into runner or ellipticaling, chances are that come 5-6pm you'll have to wait for someone to finish before you get on a chance. They have an indoor pool, standard size (25m) with 4 or 5 swim lanes roped off. I'm a big fan of swimming, and there's usually fewer people in the pool than there are on the gym floor but you still might have to share a lane. No biggie, most people are pretty friendly and rotate out quick. The locker rooms are OK. Not great, not bad, but they get the job done and that's about it. The bathrooms are, again, OK. The tile looks a bit dingy and makes me feel like it's dirty, and the stalls can be difficult to lock. Not the type of thing you want to see, but hey they do what they're supposed to do. The lockers are decent sized, but there's no place to change other than out in the open or in one of the bathroom stalls, which is a huge bummer. I'm just not a fan of showing my goods to a bunch of strangers! There's usually a couple of lockers that are broken- looks like the handled was pried off with a crowbar- but I've never had anything bad happen to my stuff while it was locked up. They have a hot tub in the pool area, which is nice, but it can only hold about 8-10 people comfortably. They also have a dry sauna in the locker rooms (I'm assuming there's one in the guys locker room) that are great if you're looking to sweat a little bit without actually working out (or to dry off after a swim). The women's is usually pretty active, ranging from 3-7 people at any given point during the 5-8pm period. I wish they had a steam room, too, because that would've bumped this place up to 4-stars! All in all, I still come here because it's on my way home from work, so it's convenient, and it's pretty darn cheap too, so I can't complain too much. You get what you pay for, and while this is no Lifetime Fitness, but I don't pay what I did there either! read more
