When the pandemic broke out, several gyms closed their swimming pools down. One place I know and use to belong to, actually filled their pool in. Planet fitness does not offer a pool, the traditional saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs.What a let down!!! Anyways when things started improving after the pandemic I started searching for a gym with a pool around my area. No luck really. I chose Planet Fitness minutes away. They concentrate on cardio vascular, building or rebuilding strength versus a pool. They do offer a wide variety of workout machinery. Large free weight area with multiple squat racks. Cardio equipment on the 2nd floor as well as 4 indoor racquetball courts. Pool and hot tub are currently closed so can't speak on those. The bad: some equipment is showing age (the rowing machines as an example) and are not thoroughly cleaned. There is not a large staff to clean or monitor. Many gym members do not rerack their equipment properly or wipe equipment down. Part of the issue is minimal cleaning stations throughout the gym. Instead, there are spray bottles at the entrance for members to walk around with and use. This can be cumbersome. I'd prefer cleaning stations with wipes or spray bottles and paper towels centrally located. Locker room is decent. Haven't had to shower here but definitely bring shower shoes! If new to fitness or lifting, walk in with a plan. If you decide to go with one of their trainers, you do get locked into a contract so understand that going in.

I found Xcelerated Athletics on Facebook and met one of the owners on site to talk, ask questions and share my goals. I went for my first workout the very next day and never looked back. The coaches are experienced, knowledgeable and invested in the athletes. I love the option of joining scheduled workouts, or just having 24/7 access to the gym and equipment to set up your own routine and exercise schedule. The owner is on site most days and puts his heart into this gym. It really is a community of endless encouragement and support no matter your level of experience or skill.

I have been attending classes since December, which I purchase through class pass. When I started going, I was told it was permissable to stay and complete my workout after purchasing and attending a class (IE attending a strength class, then after running on the treadmill to complete my workout for the day). As time passed I started to meet people and made some purchases at the front desk for energy drinks/ etc. One day I attended a class and after ran on the treadmill (as I had done a number of times in the past). Once I left I got a notification my card was charged for a full day pass at the gym. Not once did someone notify me this occurred nor did I authorize it. I contacted a manager at the facility I knew, and they stated they charged my card as I used gym equipment after the class. I told them I was unaware of this, as I and many other classpass users thought it was allowed. I feel violated in a way because I was charged without any warning and they did not refund the amount. If I had known they were going to do this I would've left and ran outside!

I've been a member at this PF location for only a week or two at this point and have been so…read moreimpressed by the staff, the attention to all things Covid cleanliness, and to be honest - the cheapness of it all. $10 per month is very much in budget after having to cancel a boutique style membership I had nearby. I know, I know - "why are you here during a global pandemic?! MUCH JUDGEMENT." I needed to head back to the gym for my mental and physical health, and, after a lot of research, this PF location has covered their bases on safety and then some. All members and staff are diligent about masking, yes - even on treadmills and cardio equipment. There are hand sanitizing stations every couple of feet, equipment sanitizing stations everywhere, and the ability to social distance easily because, to be frank, there's nobody there. I was sold on PF based on this and their crowd-o-meter that allows you to go in to the app and see how busy the gym is at any given time. I go at off peak times only and have never seen another person on a treadmill besides myself, along with the fact that 70% of the treadmills are blocked off. All this to say, I love being back in the gym and am happy to have found a place that feels so safe. I'll update this review once the Coronatimes are behind us (so maybe never? Hahahahahahahah *sobbing*) but in the meantime will enjoy this basically empty location that feels sad (no amount of punny social fitnessing word play can make working out during a pandemic feel normal) but safe. Great location in Baytowne with everything you need post-gym right nearby. Also they gave me a shirt even though I didn't sign up for the more expensive membership and for that I just want to say: thank you. I freakin' love shirts.
