Have had our membership for two months now! We come 2-3x a week, and have definitely taken advantage of our membership! I have not used the child watch yet, but my 9 and 11 year old did enjoy the mystery cavern area. We love the two separate pools, and the hot tub area! The lifeguards are friendly, the pool is very clean. The gymnasium is fun, we enjoy hanging out shooting hoops and running our two year old ragged in there! We love the gym and selection of workout equipment! This YMCA is never too packed, I've never had to wait for machines or for the pool area. We've visited the Pittsford YMCA and definitely prefer our homie Northwest YMCA! read more

Staff if very rude and treat everyone as if they are school teachers, they claimed membership was banned for 3 days when I'm the one that's paying for it and come to find out when I went to another YMCA I was told that in the system I'm not banned so the staff on long pond lied to my face...... they also feel entitled to receive respect and kindness when every single staff besides the life guards treats everyone very miserably and rude simply because they hate their own job, I honestly believe that the driving park ymca is better and staff also when u would expect that one to be worst because of the environment and area it's in..... This location refuses to warn their patrons that multiple cars have been stolen from their parking lot. They deny it. They call patrons liars even with video proof. They obviously care more about their image or money than they do about the people who use their facility. I will not recommend them. I will however tell people to not go there. They need to do better. read more

I don't want to go back. The changing area in the licker room smelled so bad, and the lockers smelled even worse. The liner of the family pool is discolored around the water line and wrinkled at the bottom so you can feel it as you walk along. What a difference between the Bayview, Westside, and Eastside YMCAs we typically go to. read more

Things I look for in a gym: 1. A variety of equipment AND enough of it 2. Cleanliness 3. People walking around for which you can ask for fresh ideas 4. GOOD CHILD CARE! This gym has more than exceeded my expectations. The ladies at the child watch know my kids well. Greet them by name. Know what makes them tick. Care. And are attentive. The gym is fairly clean and the trainers (especially Mark!) are more than willing to work with you to give you fresh routines. I could go on and on. But THIS is the gym for a family. read more

I was really disappointed in this place. Some staff members were really rude and inconsistent when it comes to the rules concerning the pool and it seems like they just make up the rules as they go or pick and choose when and whom to enforce these rules to. I felt very much targeted and singled out when in the pool area. I signed up my family so that my children could stay busy after school and use the pool. but it seems like this facility is only OK with black children being in the gym or the child watch area because every time my nine year-old went in the pool there were different rules from each of the staff member the final straw was meeting Chris who made it very clear that we were not welcomed by going out of his way, to interrupt my child's playtime any chance that he could get I made complaints to the coordinator Kelsey, who seem to be very sympathetic, but simply unknowledgeable about the rules or procedure when dealing with complaints I attempted to contact the Director James Meyer multiple times after these two incidents and was never followed up with. I left phone calls voicemails and even showed up to the facility and he never called back or attempted to reach out to me about my concerns it is unfortunate because I really did want to keep my membership I even referred 2 other families who also joined and will be leaving now. they did nothing to reassure me that we were indeed welcomed to use all parts of the facility or resolve this issue in a manner that was beneficial to all parties involve. read more

This Y is my go to since its closest to where I currently live, however I have one major bone to pick. WHY IS THIS THE ONLY Y WITH NO HAIR DRYERS!!!! It is truly quite unfortunate. Northwest Family YMCA - Gyms Near Me - Rochester, New York

The YMCA is probably the most well-known gym in the US. I like the Y, and I find this location among the better, from what I've seen and heard. It is clean, it has a pool (a few, actually), and offers some other services that others don't. Also, it's in the middle of Greece, so you can't beat that location! However, I have some mixed reviews about the organization as a whole. It is a clean facility with reputable people. It's never overly crowded and they usually have any machine, exercise program, and facility you'd want. They also offer a great range of facilities and exercise programs. They have something for all ages and all fitness levels. there is a kid's place, and they often have kids activities. They also have a camp nearby, which I believe is available for teenagers and younger. Their several pools are also nice, and their locker rooms are always clean and spacious. It would be nice if they provided locks and towels (especially given the price of membership). They also offer consultations and personal training for people who request it. I talked to some people for a little while, but I didn't think they told me anything that common sense or high school gym class didn't tell me. They also don't have a large variety of sports or activities, so make sure you check to see they have what you want before joining. THE PRICE IS BAD! For about six months at this gym, you could have purchased a lifetime membership at most other gyms. The prices are terrible. They're so high, I'm surprised they stay in business! When I see people who joined the Y, I ask them "why?" I'm not being cute, I really wanted to know. Most people are getting a joint membership or getting in free, like their parents go, so they go for free. Also, they'll try to get you to pay a sign-up fee. Do not pay it! All fees are negotiable, and a $200 starting fee is unreasonable, especially when it costs you $50+ a month. All other gyms in the are about $10-$20 a month and are more accommodating (and many of which have no sign-up fee). In addition, you have to pay for other services like joining certain classes. Also, does it bother anyone else that they make people pay higher amounts if they feel you can afford it? THE HOURS ARE BAD! The Y was almost never open when I could use it conveniently. They open at 5:00am (or something) but close at 10:00pm on weekdays. If I become available around 9:00 or 9:30pm, this doesn't really help me. Also, they close around 5:00pm or 7:00pm on the weekends. Seriously? Isn't that when people want to work out? Also, they will often close facilities, and sometimes their entire branch, without notice. A few times I went there to go swimming, the pool was closed. One time the entire facility was closed. Don't expect this to reflect on your monthly bill. It'll still be full price. Also, the Y will offer a myriad of classes. Likely, none of the ones you'd like to take will fall at a time you can do them. Watch out, too! Some cost extra! I think the Y is great for kids. Their membership doesn't cost much, there' are a lot of activities, and they offer camps (which can be pricey). read more

This is one of the nicest and friendliest places you would come across - especially in the health and fitness field! The facilities are very clean and well-maintained. It is very inviting and cheerful place. What is the most significant feature is the friendliest staff - especially the front desk. If you go there frequently, they will greet you by your name. All workout areas are well-equipped, and the pools, sauna and whirlpool are clean and inviting. If you go there regularly, you may build some muscles, maybe lose a few pounds and most likely make some great friends,too! If someone says workout has to be boring, they probably have not been here! BTW, that comment about no hair dryers here, I don't have a lot of hair, so I didn't notice!!! read more

The YMCA is the perfect place for families. I worked there 25 years ago and it was one of my favorite jobs. Now that I'm a parent I see it from a parents point of view. My kids were enrolled in the summer program and they are still talking about it and begging to go back. The counselors are well trained and friendly. It's just a great place to be! read more

Melinda Peck,Chris Mangone & Mike Rusell I have unfortunately lost faith and respect in the YMCA due to the gymnastics program. For the last two years we have been unsatisfied with the way the program is handled. Over the last two years there have been several meetings to discuss concerns with the program. Unfortunately there has been so much turnover in staffing I am unable to recall everyone's name. Last year at the end of the season meetings were held with Jill Belluco and Jason Letendre because of the lack of communication and mishandling of team funds. We discussed other issues including lack of support, respect, staffing and equipment provided by the YMCA and safety issues. At that point the issues were nothing new and had been discussed on numerous occasions over the years. I had high hopes that things would change, unfortunately things did not. Let me tell you about the team. The competition team consists of girls ages 9 - 17, there backgrounds and ethnicities are diverse. They are intelligent, compassionate and respectful. They work extremely hard and I believe they all have a passion for gymnastics. The team has competed in YMCA and USAG meets across NY State and Pennsylvania. This year they went to Nationals in New Hampshire. They have formed friendships and bonds with each other and their coaches. These girls are more sisters than teammates. They have represented the Northwest YMCA with dignity and pride. They are always respectful and kind to their competitors. They are truly wonderful children and I couldn't be more proud to be associated with them. Let me tell you about the coaches. We have fought over the years for more coaches and we have fought for them to be able to go to competitions. Our coaches have dedicated countless hours of their own time to this team. They have nurtured, pushed, encouraged and counseled the girls. They have advocated for the team and the parents and fought what feels like a never ending uphill battle. They are dedicated to the team and their success both in and out of the gym. The team has never been supported or shown respect by the administration. They have never been encouraged or congratulated or showcased. They have been consistently understaffed and unappreciated. Do you know who sets up the equipment? Do you know what program is one of the top profits for the Y. Do you know who breaks down the equipment? Do you know who spends the most time in the gym, the most hours at the YMCA? Do you know who you have turned against the YMCA - The gymnastics team! Not once has anyone at the YMCA bothered to be informed about what the team is doing. I would venture to bet that not one person on the staff has ever known how the girls placed at any competition. I would be surprised if anyone even knew there was competition on any given weekend if it weren't for payroll. Not only were their fundraising efforts not supported they were met with resistance every step of the way. Never did anyone at the YMCA ever make. read more
