Today the club re-opened since closing in March. As expected, Social Distancing guidelines were prominently posted on the front door. Club goers cannot enter without a mask; and they must maintain a six-foot distance between others. Following County protocol, 30% capacity is the threshold for operating the club. After a personal trainer took my temperature, she bombarded me with many questions. Example: Have I had or have I been around anybody who has had any signs and symptoms of Covid-19 in the past 14 days? Hand sanitizers and disposable masks were available. The pool, whirlpool, showers and sauna were closed. Surprisingly, the cafe was open for healthy shakes and snacks. I enjoyed my workout on the treadmill. It was the best workout that I have had in years because the pandemic has made me appreciate the value of an indoor workout. I no longer have to worry about being lost on a trail, like I did a few months back at the Connetquot River State Park Preserve. Nor as a single woman do I have to fear for my safety while doing a solo dawn or dusk walk outside. I can just come to LA Fitness. Love it here!!! read more

I like the facility, but the Pool is always broken and that's the main reason I joined. Port Jeff Pool is gross and Farmingville pool is decent, but the locker room is always freezing after a swim. I've been a member since the place opened 10 yrs+ ago. Be CAREFUL about reading some of the other reviews here- some seem like they've been written by competitors to try to steer you away to their place. Take "Joseph V", for instance- what he wrote is COMPLETE bullshit. The gym is clean, and the equipment is all working fine- sometimes a piece will break down and it might seem like it's taking maybe a little too long to fix it, but this does NOT happen often. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's a very friendly place- the members all seem like ladies and gentlemen- if you should find yourself struggling, say, under a bench press, someone will ALWAYS rush over to help you out and get you out of trouble- I've seen this a few times in my long 'tenure' there. read more

I recently did a 3 day free trial of this LA Fitness location and it was by far my favorite of any LA Fitness I've encountered in the past. They had a really nifty strength and conditioning section, with battle ropes, turf, medicine balls, and agility ladders. I also particularly loved the aqua punching bag, the pool and the sauna. Their parking lot is massive so I don't ever foresee parking being any issue. I came on a very rainy day and it was great to see a handful of fellow gym-goers braving the weather and getting after it. If I lived closer, I'd for sure be signing up for a full membership. read more

Very disappointing compared to the neighboring LA Fitness. Over half of machines are indefinitely broken. It's filled with disrespectful high schoolers and is very dirty. I just joined this gym today. The treadmills are so dirty. It does not appear like they get wiped down, ever. There is no spray or wipes available to self wipe. They didn't even have paper towels in the dispenser. It was so hot upstairs by the cardio equipment, I was drenched in sweat after 10 minutes and I can run an hour normally without sweating. The pool is cloudy and needs so shock. The temperature is so high, you can't swim many laps without overheating. The water fountains do not have the filters, like the airports and schools. The water is very cold, just does not taste well. read more

Meaning that all the guys that work out who use the bathroom don't wash their hands and are using the equipment! It's disgusting. I want to give this place more stars, but I can't. Equipment is broken after MONTHS, one of the stationary bikes has been out of order for almost a year it seems like. There's rarely paper towels in the dispensers, no way to clean machines down when you're done. The punching bag has had a leak in on for months now, and now there's a sign on it saying not to use it. LA Fitness isn't cheap, you think the very least you can do is to maintain the equipment, most of my reason for even joining was because of the punching bag. LA Fitness needs to get its act together or I might have to find a new gym. read more

Unfortunately, it is FILTHY!!!!!!! all the time and there is never paper towels or sanitizer around to clean the machines. Also the way they maintain the equipment is horrible, machines are always broken down or take awhile for them to be repaired or replaced (updated). The sales people are rude, and the majority of the front desk employees are not friendly or helpful. Constantly broken machines, empty soap dispensers, empty paper towels, dead water filter. These things sometimes take WEEKS to fix. Be kinda nice if they even remotely attempted to enforce mask policy here, the opposite of a previous post - I'd look to move to a gym that enforced mask policy if there was such a gym. On the flip side y'all are very brave. I wouldn't be unmasked if every single other person around me was masked - and I certainly wouldn't be unmasked if everyone around me was UNMASKED. And If I wanted to be risky, I'd at least wait until after holiday celebrations. Sad to see how cases have been increasing. I come to this location because it is on the way home from work. But I won't come back again. It always absolutely filthy, and disgusting. Some of the cardio machines are missing the tv, and have missing wires, and I get that it's a gym, but it has a foul, stale smell. The bathroom was the most disgusting I had ever seen. After dealing with this filthy gym for years I finally became fed up with the unprofessional workers and so called managers. Besides the locker rooms being filthy 24/7 the majority of the staff lack common sense and intelligence. I went to this location yesterday morning (first time) to clean up. When I entered the location it seemed pretty nice even though that the check in did not register me a la my member account on their website. The floor looked nice - spacious, nice retail / snack bar, bright, etc. When I got to the locker room it looked relatively well kept. Then I went to the shower area.. I noticed and odor when I stepped to a stall... did not know what it was and went to another which had the same smell. Then I realized it was mildew. I inspected four total and they has similar odors and mildew "encroachments" in them. You know that urban legend of how a company keeps up their bathroom is an indication of the type of company it is? You be the judge from what I said but the pics I took and sent to corporate hopefully will get them to clean up the showers. This is by far one of the worst run businesses. I have been a customer for over 7 years with LA Fitness. This location is quite possibly the most filthy, unorganized one I have used. In fact it is the reason I have finally made the move to another gym. If you are considering joining realize this. 1. There are constant fights on the basketball court. 2. The equipment is nearly always broken with about 40% of treadmills unuseable. 3. The bathrooms are unhealthy. 4. The sauna is a bed of bacteria 5. Lockers are constantly broken into 6. Cars are robbed in parking lot 7. Management is not customer focused I'll give you one experience that sums up the gym. Last week I was working out. I was waiting on a piece of equipment that was being used by the manager and a sales person, I guess they were on break. When they finished they left a total of 8 45lb plates on the machine. When they moved to another piece of equipment I asked If he was the manager, he replied 'yes.' I said 'shouldn't you rerack the weights when your done?' He looked at me and said 'whatever.' This is the attitude from top down here. There is no oversight which leads to total mismanagement. If you are serious about body building this is not the gym for you. A lot of flash and a lot of bark but no bite. They are missing critical pieces of machinery. Their cable row machine needs serious upgrade. And on busy days you do more walking around trying to find an open machine than actually lifting. If your just a regular guy who works out to keep your heart healthy and to look ok for the summer and who likes to overpay for a mediocre gym, than this gym might work for you. But if you are like me and your looking to build the best body that you can possibly build and you set goals that are extremely high, then go somewhere else. Abraham Lincoln once said, "If I had four hours to cut down a tree, I'd spend three hours sharpening my tools" Don't be distracted by the "Flash" of LA Fitness, there are sharper tools elsewhere. This place need to scrubbed and redo management. The guy who manages the place has such a lazy attitude. When I told him on a Friday that there was literally crazy all over the kids bathroom as I was leaving on SUNDAY it was STILL all over the entire stall. I wanted to throw up. After I told him at the end of my hour workout the girl who was watching my kids said they never came. Machines gross. Floor gross. Daycare was terrible. I contacted corporate regarding how I was treated and was assured that I would hear from the district manager the following day. Today marks 3 weeks and still no response or an apology. I received a very informal response of approximately one sentence after writing a follow up email saying the district manager would investigate. I patiently waited before posting this review. LA Fitness, you dropped the ball. April 9, 2019 Dear Mr. S----: I'm writing to you regarding an incident that took place at the Patchogue LA Fitness at approximately 5:20 PM today. I have been a member of LA Fitness for the past two years. During that time I have always held the family membership. Today I visited the location and arrived early to attend a Cycle class that I had reserved online since it is often full. When I entered the location with my daughter, I approached the front desk where a young lady was seated and checked me in. The machine beeped and I proceeded around the desk to enjoy my class. There was also a gentleman seated behind the desk who was talking to another female standing on the other side of the counter. He immediately got up and discontinued his conversation and summoned me back to the desk. At that point, he informed me that I didn't have guest privileges and that my daughter would have to sign in on her own. I stated that I have always had the family membership and that I've never had an issue. He emphatically stated at least two additional times that I did not have guest privileges. Finally, he asked me to scan the barcode again. While doing so. I also recited my phone number so he could use that as another means to confirm my identity. He asked me if I had two cards and I told him no and that my keys had never even left my hand. I held the keys up to show him that there was only one LA Fitness card on my keychain. He went into the computer history and showed me that my card had initially come up as belonging to someone named Shirley. I stated that I had no idea who that person was. As he walked away in a dismissive manner he said, "You can go." I stood there for a moment quite perplexed and embarrassed by the way I had been treated, especially in front of my daughter. I looked at the young lady behind the counter and said, "It would have been nice of him to apologize." She said nothing and just looked down. As I walked around the counter I said, "Excuse me. I understand that it was a computer error, but it would have been nice if you had apologized." He rudely said, "For what? There's no reason for me to apologize." At that point, I could see that an attempt to express my dismay had fallen on deaf ears, so I asked him for his name. He curtly said, "As you can see, I'm working with another customer. You'll have to wait until I'm finished." I informed him that I would be filing a formal complaint and wanted to ensure that I had his name. I continued to ask him for his name and he repeatedly refused to give it to me and insisted that I wait. It was nearing the class start time and I was concerned that he would be gone for the day if I attempted to return after the class was over. I reminded him that he had immediately left the same customer to intervene when he thought I was attempting to enter the facility with my daughter without authorization. At that point, I took out my phone to take a picture of him in an effort to ensure that I was able to properly identify the employee who had treated me so poorly. He asked me to delete the picture and I refused and explained that I would not have taken the picture had he simply provided me with his name. He said, "That is against the law." I said, "I know the law with regard to this. I just can't believe how I'm being treated." At that point, I informed my daughter that we would be leaving. After all, the class had already started and the entire debacle had defeated our motivation and desire to remain on the premises. Since becoming a member of LA Fitness, I have only been greeted with the utmost respect. I was also completely satisfied with how the rep showed compassion as I shared my frustration with her when I contacted corporate. When I provided the physical description of the gentleman, she said his name might be Vaughn who happens to be one of the club managers. I have attached his picture for your review. I am deeply disappointed in how I was treated today at the Patchogue location. It was apparent that the young lady at the counter was in a subordinate role so I understood how she struggled to maintain her integrity when faced with such an uncomfortable situation. His conduct, however, was extremely unprofessional and certainly reflected poorly on LA Fitness today. I look forward to hearing from you. read more

I want to start this review on a good note. The staff at this gym are very friendly, if there is any reason I still go to this location aside from sheer convienience during my commute, its the staff. That being said, this place is filthy. Whoever is in charge of maintaining facility cleanliness should be fired immediately. The primary reason I even have an LA Fitness membership (one of 2 of my gym memberships) is the fact that they have a swimming pool. However this facilities swimming pool seems to have a consistant layer of filth on the bottom of it. I understand that cleaning a pool os not an easy task, but i was a lifeguard/swim instructor for several years, and I know that simply vaccuming the bottom of the pool occasionally would solve this problem. These standards seem to be similar throughout the rest of the facility. If/When they clean up their act, I will revise my score. read more
