I want to start this review on a good note. The staff at this gym are very friendly, if there is any reason I still go to this location aside from sheer convienience during my commute, its the staff. That being said, this place is filthy. Whoever is in charge of maintaining facility cleanliness should be fired immediately. The primary reason I even have an LA Fitness membership (one of 2 of my gym memberships) is the fact that they have a swimming pool. However this facilities swimming pool seems to have a consistant layer of filth on the bottom of it. I understand that cleaning a pool os not an easy task, but i was a lifeguard/swim instructor for several years, and I know that simply vaccuming the bottom of the pool occasionally would solve this problem. These standards seem to be similar throughout the rest of the facility. If/When they clean up their act, I will revise my score. read more

My jaw dropped when I heard this was a relatively new location because this gym is absolutely filthy. It looks like an olddddd movie theater or rec center with gym equipment thrown in. The locker rooms and saunas are dirty, which is weird because there's almost always a cleaning crew in there during business hours. Trainers are pretty nice but the front desk and managers are super rude. I got yelled for not scanning in when I literally scanned my key tag right in front of a managers face. When cancelling, they told me I had to come in between 9-5 M-F. Ok, so now I have to spend my lunch break at LA Fitness. Cool. So I go there and ask to cancel and they don't even look up at me ask for my name and say "OK you're done". Took all of 30 seconds and we couldn't do this over a phone call? Yeah, go to any other gym. read more

today the pool water was freezing. I asked the life guard the temp of the pool water and he told me the heater was broken, it was 64 degrees while the outside weather was 59 degrees. I was once a member of LA Fitness eight years ago. I'm currently a member of Bally Sport, but I want to start playing basketball once again and Bally's does not offer a basketball court so I thought I'd try LA Fitness since I had it in the past and it's just a few bucks more a month. I go on the website and request a 3-Day pass, enter my information and print the pass out. I get to the gym after work and for whatever reason, it won't let the lady at the front desk activate it so she sends me to some big guy with black hair (I forgot his name). Off the bat, I could tell he didn't care to help; he pretty much tells me that I could not try the gym out because I was a member eight years ago and that the website allowed me to print the pass to get me in and sell me a membership followed by "and here we are". He starts telling me prices and I just stop him and tell him I want to try out the gym because not all gyms are alike. Another chick jumps in and says I could pay $20 for ONE day to try it out. He then tells me "have you had pizza before? After having a slice, do you need to have another to make sure you like it?" Um, yes... Not all pizzas are the same, Pizza Hut is completely different to Papa John's". I have zero clue as to why this guy works in sales... I went to simply ask if I could try out the gym before I join, yes or no? Then they went on with more none sense about how I was already a member, so I grabbed my things and left. I have never felt more unwanted in a business establishment in my life. I'll take me $99 initiation fee and $40/month elsewhere, they aren't the only gym in the world. read more

I was a member of LA Fitness for about a year and a half. I didn't have any major complaints until my last few visits. About 2 weeks ago I went to the gym around 8am. When I hopped on a treadmill to start my run, I was told by the cleaning staff that I had to move because they had to vacuum my machine. They couldn't clean the other 15 free treadmills but had to clean the one I was on. Okay, annoying but not the end of the world. The beginning of the end was when I went to the locker room to take a shower. The first thing I see when I walk into the shower room is a hairball the size of my fist. But to be honest, I'm pretty used to seeing hairballs in the stalls. So I chose a stall and walk in only to discover a wade of gum on the floor. Gross. So I move over to the next stall and I'm part way through my shower when I notice a pair of BLOODY underwear in the corner of the shower floor . Needless to say, I didn't finish my shower. When I was finally able to get a hold of the manager she was nice but didn't really seem to care about the state of the facility or the fact that they were losing a member because of it. Her excuse for what I found in the shower was that it was a busy time of the year and they are short staffed. I quit on January 10 and had to pay for the rest of the month and the following month since the make you pay your last month's fees upfront. I'd love to talk to someone at corporate to see if they know what is going on but haven't been able to locate any phone numbers or email addresses for LA Fitness corporate. And until I can talk to someone at corporate I'll just keep telling every single person I know and meet about how nasty LA Fitness is. P.S. Don't go into the showers at any cost. Came for a swim at 7 am and the place was a disaster. Gunk all over the shower floors along with a disposable razor. Wet paper towels strewn the halls. I tried this gym for a year, but I've decided to switch to another due to many of the same reasons discussed in other reviews. The first issue is that the facility is FILTHY. Top to bottom. All the time. To the people who actually use the showers in the locker room: you are far braver than I. My next issue with LA Fitness is that their cardio machines are terrible quality. There are just a few Precor machines, and they're always taken by people who know better than to try to use the other brands... A final concern of mine is that like the cleanliness inside, the parking lot is not repaired in a timely manner either. Last winter there was a bathtub sized pothole that was DEEP, and it took weeks for them to fill it in. Every time I pulled into the parking lot I had to make sure to remember to dodge it to avoid destroying one of the tires on my car. Before I moved to Holbrook, I was a member of Golds Gym for years, and New York Sports Club after that. I never had these issues at those facilities. I'm now willing to drive the twenty minutes necessary to get to a well run gym. Avoiding all of these annoyances is well worth it. read more

I've been a member of this LA for roughly 2 or 3 years now and I've never had a problem with this place until today. The girl working the front desk (Hispanic, skinny, black hair, don't know her name) gave me the most disgusting attitude right when my girlfriend and I walked in the door. "We close at 11!" (Side note: It was 8pm when I walked in.) I thought she was kidding at first but once I looked up from my phone and saw that this entitled brat had a dead serious look on her face, I was amazed. In what f***ing world do you talk to customers like this? Her reason for this attitude: They close at 11pm and I've had two instances with her (which occurred 1 or 2 months ago) asking me to leave at close. Mind you, I was out of the door by 11:05/11:10 on both occasions while other people were still working out ( I would love LA to go back and take a look at the security cameras to prove me right ) and I gave her no flak for asking me to leave. She spoke to me then with a similar nasty attitude but today was a whole new level. My girlfriend and I are cancelling our memberships ASAP. This place went downhill quick. read more

The gym has the potential to be beautiful. The equipment is great and the setup is suburb. However, there is so much it could do better. The biggest issues stem out of its management. There is no floor personnel cleaning up after guests that should do it themselves. Since members cannot be courteous and re-rack thier weights, the gym staff needs to. My wife, who is also a member has a hard time lifting 45 lb plates off of a machine and quite often cannot use a machine because its loaded with them (especially leg press machines). On Sunday morning, the basketball courts were absolutely filled with litter form the light before. There were banana peels, along with bottles and clothes. The second major issue is the locker rooms. They are NEVER clean. I have gone weekends, weekdays, morning, days and nights. It is routine to witness unflushed toilets, over flowing garbage cans, large puddles of water. It is horrible. I understand a lot of these 2 issues could be fixed if the membership would do their part, but if they don't - other members should not have to suffer, Jennifer once told me how she works 15 hours a day. If this is the case, she needs to get an assistant, because she cannot do it alone. I do not particularly care for her to begin with and in all truth, she is doing a crap job running the joint. For the price tag, I expect a lot more then I would receive at Planet Fitness (which is 25% the monthly price). Recently I started participating in Spin Classes. They are great, but it seems the instructors lack what they need. However, the instructors are top notch and provide a great workout. read more

I'm sitting in the sauna right now and the same "have a great work out" that was wrote on the glass had been there for 3 days now. Which makes me think the sauna hasn't been cleaned in who knows how long. No toilet paper, no paper towels, smells like a dirty hamster cage and that's just the ladies locker room. This gym is disgusting and just keeps getting worse. Are all of the stair masters ever going to be working at the same time?! And the board of health should test the machines and weights because I'm pretty sure there got to be some undiscovered disease festering somewhere in here. What is sad about this is my mother and I went in here fully expecting to leave with a family membership. I don't like to name call but the salesperson we were given reminded me of the "body builder" in the Planet Fitness commercials "I lift things up and put dem down." He was rude, pushy, didn't listen to questions, evaded answering questions to the point where we left. When he realized we really were leaving, he tried to change tactics but it was too late, we were really put off. This gym is DISGUSTING! Whoever manages this location should be fired. Mostly all elliptical machines are broken and have not been repaired in over a year. The facilities are FILTHY in every aspect. I wouldn't be suprised if I saw a cockroach run by- that is how filthy it is. I've been to many other la fitness locations on the island and this location is by far the worst. Although LA Fitness has been hyped as THE place to go, all in all, it is just a regular gym. The place is huge though offering a ton of cardio equipment on the 2nd floor, and most everything you could need weight wise on the main floor (lacking kettle bells...). They also offer a smoothie/snack bar that serves up a variety of cold post-workout treats. For the most part, the machines are clean but you may need to search around a little if you want a different grip for the cables as people tend to mix & match those to other machines. I've never had a problem with waiting to use something which is key when you're in the zone. I've started to try out some of the classes and let me tell you...GO! People may think classes are just for women or whatever, but they are tough and provide a fantastic workout. The Body Works Plus Abs class on Saturday and Sunday is a killer morning class led by two awesome instructors, Tabon and Suzanne. They will whip you into shape! The Bootcamp Conditioning class is also amazing and that's led by Alison. I always get so excitied to attend and half way through I curse myself for showing up lol also, the Cycling classes are great! 5:30pm most days by a number of instructors will really get those calories burning. The locker room is a typical locker room...be ready to sheild your eyes! Although the bathrooms in there could be cleaner, they're OK..but the sauna is the real treat! Pop in there for a few mins after your workout and you'll feel great. read more

Great water aerobics classes BUT the hot tub has been closed for more than two weeks now, and the manager is clueless and argumentative when you ask him when it will be fixed. He assured me it would be fixed a week ago but he doesn't follow up. I can't understand how a feature that so many people are paying for has been broken for so long. My fiance recently signed up with LA Fitness in Patchogue because she received an email from LA Fitness corporate to offer no initiation fee and $49 a month because she was a former member. When I went in with her because I also was a former member, the tall brunette woman with glasses with silver jewelry in her face was extremely rude and dismissive of us when we asked about receiving the same promotion. She gave us a line about if it was over 90 days since I was a member, she couldn't offer me the same promotion. We told her that my fiance hadn't been a member for over 2 years, so why did she get this offer and not me. Instead of answering the question, she rudely said, "you'll have to wait, these other people were here first and I have to help them". Her colleague looked embarrassed to be working with her. Gyms are intimidating as they are, I don't need the add'l stress of this condescending woman. She could have tried to find an appropriate solution instead of acting the way she did. In this area there are options upon options in regard to a gym. Most people realize initiation fees and monthly fees are completely negotiable. A lot of people who don't speak up get ripped off. I'm sure the gym itself is fine, but when options are ample, the professionalism of the staff is a huge factor in my decision to patronize this business or not. read more

After reading the existing reviews of this LA Fitness location I could only wonder "did these people go to he same place I did?" The sales personal I dealt with were polite and not at all high pressure! Well, at least in comparison to many others I've dealt with. The facility is fairly large, seems to be well laid out. At the times I've visited has not been over crowded. My usual time to stop in has been mid to late afternoon. The times I've been there later I was surprised that even thought the paring lot was overflowing it did not feel crowded inside! Well, except for the locker room ;-) The facility has a room that is a set up for use as basketball or volleyball court. Another room is set up for exercise classes. And there's a room full of what I would call old fashioned exercise bikes (the ones they use for so called spin classes). I think the evening crowded parking lot is from guys there to use the basketball court, and a mixed crowd to use the exercise classes. So far I'd rate the housekeeping as being fairly good. Most times I've stopped in there has been a person doing clean up chores. It's not the Staff's fault that guys leave paper towels on the counters by the sinks when there's a garbage can two feet away! I can not fault the Staff for not being able to have some one follow each member that happens to be a slob! On the other members.... even though some don't know how to pick up after themselves, so far they seem to be OK. People have been polite and cooperative about sharing the equipment, although it has been rare that there is much of a wait for any particular station. So far I've not seen anyone acting rude or behaving like an (expletive deleted) By the way, I had a Baly's "Lifetime" membership purchased at Lake Grove back in 1984. When Bally's and LA Fitness made the deal transferring clubs and members back in December I was first told that to use the Patchogue facility I would have to buy an upgrade. Yes there was a sales pitch, but it was in no way huh pressure! For two weeks I considered the relative costs and ease of access and decided to go for the upgrade. When the person at the counter looked my account up she said "they have straighten out the data base we got from Bally's - your membership is already good at all but six premier LA Fitness locations." Within a few minutes I had a new card at no additional cost! OH! Back when this gym was being built, the Long Island construction trade unions set up one of their big inflated rats out front. I have no idea what their complaint was (probably use of non-union contractor?). Well, I a lost split my side laughing when I happened to notice something in the concrete walk right in front of the windows to the north side of the entrance! There is the imprint of a rat in the walkway. I suspect it was done with one of those little rubber rats that can be picked up at a toy store. read more

The guys who sign you up are con artists. They will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to sign the contract. When you try to cancel, it will turn out that the contract you signed says entirely different things than what you were told. Don't sign the contract without reading it and get them to print a copy for you! Or better yet don't sign up for this gym at all! read more

Just left Patchogue LA fitness. Terrible remodel BIg FAKE football turf in middle of 1st level. ALL the weight machines are crammed into a small corner space. New treadmills are not user friendly. I had an opportunity for a personal training session with one of their Fitness Directors Nick Mastro and he was so informative, very knowledgeable and eager to help me figure out some of the best and safest ways to workout. This was extremely important for me, especially since I have medical issues involving bulging disks. I had a very enjoyable, positive and excellent session and I highly recommend him for questions regarding how to train to feel healthy and without injuring yourself. Nick is very easy to talk to and he shares a very healthy enthusiasm interest regarding holistic approaches for exercise and foods that we consume. It was a pleasure and may he continue to help all those who need to feel better with their body, mind and soul. read more

There are many issues I have with this place. Besides giving them $440 a month for two memberships and two personal trainers, they only care about you when you try to cancel your membership. I had a membership for over 18 months. After 12 months it switched to month to month so I was no longer in a contract. I canceled my trainer for many reasons but mostly because he always canceled on me and I never saw results. I wound up having basically 4 months of unused sessions and my husband had 6 months of unused. It's not that we didn't try to use them....they just kept trying to change our appt times...we both work. Now, since I don't really need to go there for $40 a month if I'm not going to work with a trainer, my husband and I tried to cancel our memberships. I went on the website and downloaded a form and mailed it in. They allegedly never got it. So I went in person. What a runaround we both got. I was told that I couldn't cancel it because it was his credit card (but my account). So he went in and was told that he couldn't cancel it because it was my account. So we both went in and we were told we could only cancel it with the OM. And she is only there Monday through Thursday from 10-4. So we both took off work and went there to cancel and she supposedly called in sick that day. Well at that point, payment came out for the next month. That was in August. We went back at the end of August and were given more excuses. September came around and again we were charged the $80. So my husband realized that his cc expired in October. We would just let it run its course. Of COURSE THEN LA Fitness wants to do business with us. 17 emails in 3 days warning us that we have to update our cc info. So they tried to charge the card and it didn't work. I have been getting harassed every hour, every single day since the 7th. In fact, today at 10:31, 10:34 and 10:35 they called from one number. Also at 8:22, 9:41, 10:09, and 10:41 the calls come from all different phone numbers. I googled the numbers and they all come up LA Fitness. And the funny part is that I'm not dodging their calls. I explain the situation to different people. I was told that in order to cancel I have to pay the $40 plus multiple fees bc they keep trying to charge the card. I keep telling them to STOP charging the card because it's expired. So now they want over $100 from us to cancel a membership that expired in March of 2017. I was told we have to come down in person and pay, plus "fill out a form and mail it in. It will take 7-10 business days to cancel". So if they don't stop harassing me and they think they're going to charge me to cancel, I will send them a bill for $1800 of unused PT. I will take this review down though once they decide to play nice and cancel my freaking membership without charging me. And if they don't, I can go on about other things....believe me there are TONS of things. read more

I signed up 4 months ago, they attached my account and credit card to someone i don't know, and repeatedly charge my card against his account, even after I cancelled the membership. There CS reps said they couldn't help, I had to wait until the manager came back in on Monday. The general manager said I'd receive a call on Monday by noon. When I called at noon, the manager Vaughn, said he would call back in 15 minutes. When I called him back 3 + hours later, his answer was he was busy with other customers in front of him. Total joke, no one accountable or able to help. Never even used a single piece of equipment but got charged 4 months straight ( credited back after the fact, but simply ridiculous). read more

Half of the cardio machines are broken, old, and dirty. Not worth the price of membership. The gym offers classes and personal trainers, but of course it's extra. The ONLY reason I come here is for the convenience of it being so close to my house. I use to have a membership to Planet Fitness, but since moved out of area. If you don't mind staring at purple all day then I'd recommend it. My membership at LA is up in November, unless they give me a very good deal I'll be looking elsewhere. Sooo disappointed wth this gym! I just moved to patchogue and LOVED the gym where I was and was excited about joining this gym but the people (staff) are SO unfriendly and NOT welcoming... the 2 sales people I actually liked that signed me and my boyfiend up apparently left/got fired. I understand that this is a new location for them however the class schedule is TERRIBLE! I work and dont get home until after 6 and all they have is 545 classes or 7pm.... why dont they have 530, 630 and 730 classes? and the time for the spin classes and aerobic classes are so inconsisent which I dont understand because they are in different rooms... ? Also, when I did try out some classes I was disappointed that it was literally the SAME exact class- verbatim the 2 times I tried it... why not change it up? I am so disappointed and unmotivated to go... that is not how a gym should be! Last week after I took a class I thought I lost my phone... I could not find it. When I went up to the front desk and asked the girls (very young) that I wanted to speak to a manager and she said "shes busy" and I said - well I think I lost my phone and I would really like to talk to someone in charge. ... So she walked over to the sales desk where apparently the manager was sitting LISTENING to the whole convo talking to someone else and all the manager said to the girl was "give her a police report to fill out" and she rolled her eyes..... The girl came back and told me and I was like ARE YOU KIDDING!!?? The manager didnt even BOTHER to assist in me looking for my phone nor did she get up off her chair... SOME customer assistance! Thankfully, I found my phone (in one of my bag pockets) but when I walked out I said "thanks SO much to both of you for ALL your help!" If thats how they treat their customers then I want no part of it... they dont care and have a typical "big gym" mentality". Everyone is giving this location a bad review. But it's honestly my favorite LA fitness location on the Island. Very spacious and many areas to utilize. Has a great, friendly staff who greet you when you walk in. And for the "cleanliness"...it's a gym people...you sweat, you use the bathrooms, you shower...what are they supposed to wipe down the machine every time someone gets off?? NOPE HELLO that's the our job. Wipe the machines down before and after you use them if you think they're so "filthy". read more

This is going to be a long one... Ill start with the childcare. We first started bringing my daughter when she was about a year old. the younger girls who watch the kids were very sweet. My issue was that the sales girl at the front desk kept taking her out of the childcare room and hanging out with her, bringing her around the gym while my husband and i were working out. This was not okay, at all. I never gave anyone permission to take her out of the room. The first time it happened the sales girl must have gotten tired of hanging with her and so she brought her over to me and said "your daughter pooped". Not only did she not poop, i was in the middle of my workout and she just dropped her at my feet at the squat rack. WHAT THE HECK. So I casually, politely, but firmly said my daughter is not to leave the childcare room. The very next time I worked out she took my daughter out of the room and the only reason I found out was because I asked the girls in the childcare room. Livid doesn't begin to describe how angry I was. Very disrespectful, and dangerous. GOD forbid there was a fire? or an emergency and I could not find my child? Blatant disrespect for my wishes as a parent. I also was a little disappointed when i saw a 3-4 month old baby screaming crying and the girl said "hes gotta learn to like it in here"... On to my other issues... This gym is dirty. DIRTY. I literally saw vomit on the second floor one day and it had been there for a while. Not only do they not clean, they don't even have the hand sanitizer dispensers full or the cleaning solutions filled so you can clean the equipment yourself or wash you hands. Its also very rare to find a weight where it belongs. I spend more than half my time searching for weights. 9 times out of 10, things are misplaced because their trainers dont put them back. I have also thrown my back out from taking the massive plates off of machines that people don't remove from the equipment when they're done using it. I stayed here for a few years out of convenience but after many issues, especially with the childcare, I decided to find another gym... read more

I had heard that trying to leave LA Fitness was a PIA by design, so I made sure to go a month and a half ago to start the resignation process. The guy behind the desk tells me I payed first and last month at the beginning and I payed on the 12th so I'd have to wait until October 12th. This was in early September. So I go today to double check that today is my last day, guy behind the counter( 90% sure it was the same guy) hits a couple keys on his computer and tells me tomorrow is in fact my last day. Checked my Amex to make sure, and sure enough it shows a pending LA Fitness charge for tomorrow. I'm pretty annoyed at this point so I go look for the guy who had just lied to me, he's nowhere to be found. Another guy checks the computer and tells me there is no record of me resigning, and shows me a form I've never seen before, one that must be mailed in to resign. LA Fitness is by far the worst run and most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. If I'm forced to pay for the next month I will spend it telling every tour I see at LA Fitness my story, and advise them to find any other gym. read more

Just so far out of the way . The cardio equipment upstairs is dingy and needs cleaning The free weight section is in shambles and every juicehead from the surrounding area must come there . People don't have respect and rerack there weights when they are done . I know it's a crowded location but hire more people to clean and maintain it . 10 sales people upfront one person cleaning do the math , let's get all these people signed up but no staff to keep up with it . First thing out of my mouth when my friends ask how's the new gym your going too all I say is dirty !!!! Really surprised cause from the outside it looks impressive but you never know what is behind closed doors . If I find somewhere else local that is cleaner I won't be too disappointed if I had to pay a fee to cancel . Get on an elliptical upstairs and just check out the dust on the equipment they should be sprayed and sanitized regularly not the case here I'll add a pic soon . I'm not one to use the pool but can just imagine how that is . It's a real shame read more

Very Corporate! This company is only interested in making commission off their customers. They will call you like a telemarketer when something goes wrong with your account. All these tactics make it a poor experience for the customer. PLEASE STAY AWAY! read more
