A big gym with lots of equipment - most of which is older than most other gyms, dirty and lots of broken equipment signs every day. The place is very busy so is dirty all the time, without exception. I joined due to moving my business and needing a place to go at lunch, reasonably close to work. My former gym is now 25 miles away or I would go back there in a heart beat! This place is a good facility with large rooms for cardio, classes, weights, a nice basketball gym and pool (that is also fairly dirty most of the time). I have been going for 3 weeks now and the Mens' bathroom/locker room is disgustingly dirty. the area where the urinals, toilets are located has stuff on the walls that nobody wants to see, the showers so dirty that you fear for your health if you look too closely at the walls or floors. The pool water is cloudy all the time, they say they check it every hour and a half, so the chemicals are probably very high, thank God. I asked how often they clean it and the answer was "every week or so", i asked after i saw a band aid and something that I had no idea about floating as i swam laps...... This Gym Manager should be fired! They need to have a person full time cleaning the locker rooms for a gym that busy. the only time I have seen anyone in the locker rooms was a girl...now i know she did not clean too well cause there were a bunch of naked and half naked guys in there, so she was getting out of there as soon as she emptied the trash....Come On LA Fitness, get your act together! If I can find a suitable replacement close enough I am gone!!!! I hear others are very nice, so the Manager should be fired if he can't get it right! read more

This gym is simply not worth the membership cost. Its mismanaged , filthy , equipment not fixed for weeks and even months. The Spa is a total disaster. I'm surprised that Suffolk county did not shut it down. They yes you to death and make promises they do not keep. Its really a beautiful gym with children running is. This seems to be the case for most of the LA Fitness gyms. Join the YMCA down the road. read more

I had a good experience in the beginning, loved their spin classes and most instructors (the ones that actually knew what they were doing). With that being said, I found the staff to be rude and not helpful whenever I approached them wth a question. The manager with dark long hair had an attitude as well. In addition to this, half of the machines are broken and the gym is extremely crowded and dirty. I once had to try 5 different treadmills because they were all broken and not scheduled for service. The spin room had gum spit out on the floor and after complaining it was still dirty the next day. Oh and the meat-heads are no positive addition to this awful experience. God forbid you want to lift weights, you first have to squeeze through grown men in tank tops showing off their biceps.. ridiculous. Adding my review here because Port Jeff is not yet listed on YELP but all facilities have same policies anyway, including corporate! Be ready to lose your last month prepaid if you have to cancel your membership due to MEDICAL reasons. They truly don't care you will be unable to return and they have no exceptions for such extenuating circumstances. I see why their overall ratings are low and they are constantly fishing for new clients (suckers) because membership is waning! read more

I'm so happy I joined this gym! I have never been able to stick with going to a gym before but I joined because of the variety of classes and I go to several a week - kickboxing, yoga, water aerobics, body works & abs, step aerobics. At first, they were hard for me but I come out of them feeling refreshed and so much better! Maryanne is my favorite instructor and she is really great. She really pushes you and teaches you your limits and I love taking her classes. She does a great job at teaching the entire class while working with people individually when they need that extra help. Tabon is good too - SO much energy! As far as the gym overall it is kept very clean, the locker room is clean and I've never had any problems there. All of the staff I've dealt with were polite and I've been allowed to bring guests in to try out the gym on several occasions. I feel very comfortable here and hopefully I continue to for a long time! Thanks LA FITNESS! read more

I would give 3 stars but I love the cardio kickboxing class with Tabon. If you want a great workout I definitely recommend his class on Tuesday evening. (I think he has another class on a Saturday, have to check class sched.) If there were more available with him that I could make it to, I would! If you want a real test of stamina and will power, check it out. You will burn major calories, work up a REAL sweat and feel great after. It gets a little crowded most of the time so get there early for a good spot. But not to worry, a few people won't make it to the end and a little more space opens up ;) Also, drink some water before class begins because there won't be many opportunities or breaks. If you find it a necessity to your health and well being to drink throughout, stay in the back where you have better access to your water bottle and not get in anyone's way lest you be kicked or punched. Patchogue is one of the nicer LA Fitness locations right alongside the newer Lake Grove location... although they all seem to have their dirtier-out-of-paper-towels-and-sanitizer moments. There is usually at least one stair master out of order. Don't bother with Commack, it's small and there's no smoothie bar or pool. But ANYWAY - Patchogue recently obtained Wi-Fi which many other locations do not yet have. This may not seem big but when there is no Wi-Fi you definitely notice. So, I switched from Golds Gym to La Fitness to save 20 dollars a month. The extra 20 a month is totally worth spending since this and every LA Fitness that I have been in for the past few months have been rather disappointing. Not only is every gym filthy, but the bathrooms stink and the showers depict the same quality as a camp ground shower stall. I am an early gym goer. At 4:30am not one weight is wracked. There are paper towels laying on the floors because the garbage pails are over flowing and all I the paper towel holders are empty. It's like they turn the lights off and lock the doors without looking around during closing. I actually added a work out to my routine. It's called the "un-rack exercise". Since not one person is respectful of the next person, I am constantly removing previously used weights and searching for dumbbells. So, needless to say. I'm VERY HAPPY I only put my Golds membership on hold and did not cancel. I'm going back. read more

Stay Away!!!!! This place is a total rip off!!! They will charge your card at random for no reason. The boxing Instructor Kieth is unreliable and a thief. He does not show up for lessons and will blatantly screw you on anything he can. For example The wife and I received a free lesson with him and then he ended up charging us 350.00 per month for lessons never received. When confronted he stated that's what we wanted. There was no agreement or contract but he insisted that we both signed up for a year. I have reported this to consumer affairs and will sue this trainer personally read more

Not sure about the other reviewers, but any time I have come to this location it has been clean for a gym it's size. During peak times a garbage can may get a little full, but the staff seems to get on top of it fairly quick. Staff is pleasant and was helpful the few times I have needed something. I would recommend this location, I got my membership here in March and got a really good deal for 3 years from the manager Scott (not sure his last name). He also gave me a free week for my sister who was visiting which was really nice. read more

This gym has fantastic potential, but the employees ruin the whole experience. The setup is nice, the building is nice, and, for the most part, the equipment is nice. The maintenance is just awful though. There are always broken machines and there are not enough of some of the most often used machines (rows especially - old and always broken). The pool and hot tub - the main reason I joined - are kind of hot or miss. There's often some kind of problem. A few months back, the lane lines were broken for WEEKS. This seems crazy. Lane lines are inexpensive and readily available. Why weren't they replaced sooner?? Then last week there was a hose just pouring water all over the pool deck. There was just stagnant water building up and it was pretty gross. No one seemed to be doing anything to even just turn the hose off, let alone drain the water. The locker room is similarly hit or miss - overflowing garbage cans and stuff all over the floor, hair balls (ew). However, probably the single most annoying thing is the fact that no weights are ever racked. It makes me crazy. There are a million useless staff members wandering around the front desk, checking their phones and chatting with one another, but there are dumbbells everywhere and 10 45 lb plates on every squat machine. I realize this should be the members' job, but why would any member do it if there's no one there enforcing the rules? So frustrating. I belonged to Retro Fitness before I moved and if it wasn't a 25 minute drive, I'd go back there in a second, even sacrificing the pool. It's worth it to be surrounded by professional, hard working gym employees. It seems that LA Fitness is more interested in being a place to just hang out, rather than work out. Up until today i would have given this gym 3 stars...mostly i just use it for spin and a personal trainer 2x a week. When we signed up "6" and Brian both told us that we could freeze our membership at any time for up to 6 months. We went in last weekend to freeze the membership thru the holidays and pick it up again around Feb - March. i knew it was gonna be a problem when it took 5 staff members to try and figure out why our freeze option wasnt visible on our account. They finally decided we needed to come in and speak with the mgr Craig during the week. I did that today and Craig blankly stared at me and basically said the pkg we signed up for didnt have a freeze option and that there was nothing he could do. The $$ arent gonna break us...and as i told Craig, who "really wished he could have been there for the conversation" when we signed up, maybe their staff needs to be re-trained as to what pkgs are subject to freezing. I didnt think gyms didnt offer a freeze plan anymore. So because its apparent that the sales people either lie or are uninformed i would now give this gym one star and thats cause i like my trainer. Beware of what you are signing up for. Not like it makes a difference i guess they can tell you anything anyway. read more

I cannot give any star ratings to the LA Fitness in Patchogue. I joined almost two yeas ago for a few year membership. The first few times I went the showers and bathrooms were not clean and the pool was unsanitary. There were bandaids floating in the pool and the mold and algae. I was so turned off I did not go back and continued my membership at the Blue Point Athletic Club. I had joined LA fitness to use the pool. My sister came to visit this week from California. She is a member of LA Fitness in San Diego. She convinced me to go back to LA Fitness and use the pool for my back problems, on August 5,2016. The pool walls above the water line were even more full of mold and algae, my previous visits. I told the life guard who then decided to use a scrub sponge and try to clean it. The mold was falling in the water. We jumped out and got showered with a ton of mosquitos and went to the manager. She said she could not leave the desk ,but thought it was probably clean since there were past complaints and it has been taken care of. I got home and called "Jacob" at corporate office in California. I asked that he return my membership fee and look into it. He said he would call them and check it out. He called them and they said the pool is clean. He called back to tell me this. What the he-l did they think they would say," oh yes the pool is filthy and she cannot get money back. I am now calling the Health Dept n Hauppauge, and will file a complaint. I will write to Newday, and put my review on facebook. I am so angry that I may make a complaint with a lawyer. I became so anxious when I got out of the pool for fear of an allergic reaction. I am going to pursue a lawsuit to have my membership cancelled and refunded and try to have the fitness center close.
