Unlike many local gyms, including other LA Fitnesses in the area, Patchogue offers the best bang for your buck! It's a little pricey, but you have every amenity most gyms don't have so it's totally worth the price. Including the pool, hot tub, awesome classes (my personal favorite is the morning cycle classes!), juice bar, sauna, a huge variety of machines and a really friendly staff. The sales team is always super helpful whenever I need to make an adjustment to my membership and I always walk in with the friendliest and warmest greeting from Laura. Well I've been coming here for just about a year now and since day one I can honestly say that I hate the staff that this l.a fitness has formed together. Aside from nagging you about re racking your weights and how close they are to closing, they are also lazy and rude. The place is always a mess and half the machines always seem to be out of order. I was actually inspired to write this review tonight because one of the staff members as I was leaving 5 minutes late, threatened to take down my account and revoke my membership. With me knowing how much of a joke this staff already is it should have came as no surprise but it still managed to anger me. Was going here for about two years..it's sad to see a nice gym that lacks care from management and workers. Machines break (that's normal) but the problem is nothing is done to fix them, it took 7 months until they fixed the lat pull down! Many other machines share the same sad faith. The bathrooms are similar to that of the public bathrooms at smith points beach. Watch your step! That's right, you got to dodge razors and water puddles just to take a piss. Between the overfilled trash cans to the fecal matter left on the toilet seats, I'd say I'm glad my membership is expiring this month. Cheers! read more

this was a great club until they lost the GM who opened the club. She was honest and friendly and didnt teach her staff to lie. I signed with her right before they opened. ive brought many people in. now i want to cancel. the new gm has the place running like a shithole and the om is lazy and does nothing. she needs to learn how to be friendlier. sad beautiful club, terrible management!! read more

As you can see from other reviews the consensus is LA Fitness does not live up to expectations. The facility has a large variety of equipment including pool, basketball court and a slew of organized classes, but its greatest flaw is not that its a mad house after 5pm, but the disgusting fact the place is filthy. One area I've identified as the worst is the elliptical machines upstairs. Half of them appear to have caked on dried vomit and sedimentary layers of dust, dead skin and solidified sweat that have been ignored from opening day. Its maddening to see LA Fitness employees routinely sitting on their asses and not routinely cleaning the equipment. Its inexcusable and is a good reason to look elsewhere for a gym membership. read more

Gym has huge potential to be a great place but has some huge issues. The batgroom and locker room areas are almost always filthy. I was in last week and nearly all of the soap dispensers were empty and only 2 of 4 paper towel dispensers had any left. This is not unusual. I sooke to someone at the counter and was told the person that handles that wasn't there that day...there were 4 employees at the counter at the time, apparently all untrained on how to fill a soap dispenser. The worst part was that when I was talking to the girl another employee started tapping her on the arm to show her a text he just got and started talking to her through me.....in the middle of my sentence. This moment is a perfect example of the attitude i see in most of their staff. With such a large facility and what I can only assume is a pretty healthy income you would think they would be able to repair equipment and facilities (toilets, etc) in a timely fashion...not the case. While they have tons of cardio equipment, a good number of the machines are either completely out of order or the tv doesn't work or headphone Jack's are not working....and don't expect them to be repaired any time soon. It was great when everything was new, but it's going down hill quick. I would look elsewhere to work out. read more

When not a member, the sales staff is definitely pushy. If you want to take some time to decide, you will need to be just as pushy back. I did become a member, mostly because there wasn't another facility nearby with the same equipment, classes and a pool. I agree with the other reviewers that this gym is pretty filthy. The ellipticals look as though they have never actually been cleaned. I used to go to the one in Lake Grove and that one is night and day from this location. The Lake Grove location keeps everything clean, they weren't pushy, and were helpful with any questions. They just opened a beautiful Y in Patchogue, so I will look into that. read more

This gym is so dirty. I was ready to sign up even with the price increase compared to planet fitness. Unfortunately it's too far for me to keep going there, it was funny though because when I told that to the sales guy he says " well we have a lot more machines than planet fitness" but they don't. They have hardly any cardio equipment. Like half of what Planet fitness has if not less. And the machines are old and basic. I really wanted to join this gym because it's so close and LA fitness is supposed to be nice but it's too gross and the equipment is nothing special.. I just couldn't get myself to do it. This gym has the WORST customer service. Been a customer on and off since 2013, i don't know why because they have always had terrible customer service. I will NEVER go back after 6 years and hundreds and hundreds spent, which was practically DONATED because i rarely went to the gym. Well...I lasted only a month. I should have known something was odd with this place. Not one day after joining I got stood up by a manager for my orientation/ bodyfat testing. The manager did reschedule it and spent quite a bit of time taking me around the gym and giving me a free training session. But after that....Things went downhill very quickly as far a my perception of this gym. This place is just filthy, disgustingly filthy. Never paper towels near the machine nor in the bathroom. The staff is rude and God forbid you ask a trainer a question if you aren't their client. The vibe in this place just stinks. I actually dreaded the thought of driving their everyday. So I just cancelled and joined another gym. 20 minutes further but so much nicer of a place. It's worth the extra commute knowing I don't have to step foot in that place ever again. read more

i have being going to this gym for about two years now. and it really has gone downhill. Some days its cleans others its like a bomb went off. They really do not have anyone walking around cleaning/wiping down the equipment although I will say the sauna is the best part and not a lot of gyms in the area have one. I have never gone in the whirlpool because well the people who go in it drive me away. Plus if they are not cleaning the gym they are not cleaning that. The one thing I like about this gym is there are a lot of friendly people. The staff may not help you but if you ask someone for help moving or adjusting something they will. read more

The facility is so beautiful not to mention always spotless and well kept. The front desk coordinators are always extremely efficient and always pleasant ,which is rarely seen in most sports clubs nowadays . The Operation Manager Elana was so friendly and informative and is a great asset to LA fitness . Good gym for the money you get a full cardio floor upstairs overlooking the main gym floor. Free weights, all the new modern machines you can think of. A large lap pool and jacuzzi. Steam room and showers and locker room. Small snack shack and juice and protein bar with anything you may need. The staff are friendly and helpful. The maintenance on the gym itself needs improvement. The locker room bathrooms and sinks need constant cleaning and this is where they lack. Same goes for shower area. Have to try 5 sinks before you find soap. The sanitizer hanging on every other wall needs refill or needs to be fixed. If they step up the service and maintenance on the same dead equipment for months my rating would go up. read more

Overall great gym and good equipment. Wish they would add a few different cardio style classes. There is a lot of Zumba and one step class - wish they offered more step, or Piloxing - the new cardio, boxing/standing pilates craze. The one kickboxing class I went to drove me nuts because she counted every kick and every punch. Ugh... Boring torture. I love Zumba but it is important to change it up. Where to begin. I joined this club when it first opened and it was clean and beautiful. Now it constantly smells like wet dog, hair balls tumbling down the yoga/exercise room, and the parking lot always having garbage spewn everywhere. The smell is because the heat and humidity is always too high. If you mention it to the front desk they say they have no control over the temperature. The last time I had checked thermostats stay within a few degrees of the set temp. Not sure what the problem is. Also they have 6 fans set up throughout the gym to cool and circulate the air. This should not be necessary if the place had a good temp. And the fans are always cause for arguments among the gym members. There were several hunks of gum in the yoga/exercise room flatten to the floor for weeks until I mentioned it to the manager and it was finally cleaned up. They are constantly mopping the floors of the spin and exercise room, but they never sweep or vacuum it first so dirt is just spread around. My final complaint is when I fell on a piece of equipment and it ended up I broke my ankle and they never took an accident report or followed up. When I fell a worker came and asked if I needed ice and an ambulance. I said yes to the ice and no to the ambulance. After I iced for about 15minutes another gym member wrapped his arms around me and helped me to my car since I could not bear weight on my left foot. After I went to the emergency and realized it was broken. I emailed the club to state what happened and for their own benefits should have taken a report. I was told someone would be in touch with me soon. That was about 2 years ago. So why do I still go there, cheap and convenient. I regularly check out the neighboring gyms to see if they have a nicer place for the same price point and I have not found it yet. read more

I have been a member since it opened. Shortly thereafter I signed up for a personal trainer. I had two or three and settled on Dan. Not only is he a great trainer, but he is genuine and goes beyond just setting the weights but explains the importance of each move. read more

This place is a joke! Wow!! I went in to take a tour of their patchogue facility and they refused to let me take a tour because I had my 2 year old son with me. They refused to let me walk in the child care doors to just stand there for a minute and look at it while I was holding my 2 year old son because they said if I dropped him while standing in there that they were liable for it. They actually told me to go find a babysitter for a half hour and then come back to tour!! How professional!! Beware! The staff is nasty and the costs are outrageous!! I love my gym! I love the classes, the friends I have made and the workouts I have there. When I can't make it due to work or the weather, I am very depressed. There are periods of time when some of the equipment is down, and recently 7 treadmills were not working. Staff got them up and working and as of yesterday, only 2 were down. I've only had to wait for a cardio machine twice, and that was right after the new year. Things have clamed down already and now I can go from machine to machine without a problem. They must have hired new people to clean up because the bathrooms are much cleaner. One women cleaned the machine I was on while I was still on it. I go to many of the different locations, and this location is by far my favorite. :) read more

Of my experience with the gyms in the area (Weight Room Plus [Moriches, NY], World Gym [Ronkonkoma, NY], and Sunrise Fitness [Holbrook, NY], LA Fitness @ Patchogue is horribly managed and maintained especially considering the sign-up commitment ($$$) and cost ($$$). When their equipment breaks, it is not fixed. This includes over 10 treadmills (of ~30), broken cable machines that remain broken for weeks, even the water fountains that are missing the activation panels [since I've been going]. Not to mention, the air conditioner always seems to be broke or non-existent (I was told by a employee that the Air conditioner is controlled by HQ in LA). The atmosphere at LA Fitness in Patchogue is jersey-shore-esk; it is over-crowded with a high level of negative attitude and respect for others. This is felt immediately upon meeting the head of sales Jennifer. Shnooki's predecessor of 20+ years ago but time did not have the same effect on her as on wine. Attitude is even more realized when a juice-head wants to use equipment, they'll circle around you like a primate hunting until you leave the equipment. Also, when people are done with the equipment, they'll leave all the weight on the equipment. It's comically when a middle-aged house wife is struggling to remove the 20 plates some meat-head left on the leg-press machine. Again, this falls on management or rather the absence of management to enforce the proper use of the equipment Except for a few, the majority of their personnel trainers never worked out a day in their lives before being employed by LA Fitness and attending a crash course on physical fitness (including their lead trainer Esteban). I've seen several times people complaining to their instructor about existing knee, shoulder and elbow problems yet the instructor forces them through it. For example, my wife has an extremely bad knee, the instructor was made aware of this but because of naivete, he told her to work through the lunges!. If your looking for the Jersey Shore experience with all of the attitude and none of the muscles or attractiveness, then this is the place for you. But if you are interested at all in weight lifting or physical fitness regardless of level, this is definitely not the place for you. read more

Any positive reviews of this place are either: A) Written by staff. B) Written by those with an infatuation with a staff member. The locker rooms are filthy. Bare feet on floor - think twice. Bathrooms remind me of college dormitories at 2 AM on Saturday - disgusting. Staff. I'm not sure if they are all on the phone talking to each other? But a large contingent are either on their phone or texting on their phone. When they're not on their phone - they are bothering you with a sales pitch. Here's an idea - put the weights back where they belong!!! There are a few good teachers for classes - but far and in between my friend. This gym has so much potential. Clearly LA Fitness' goal is to sign up as many people as possible while keeping club costs down by not hiring enough cleaning staff and the dumbest of the dumb as staff/trainers. Once you leave/quit the gym another poor victim signs up and it keeps things profitable. What a shame. read more

The locker room at this location is unclean, unsanitary, reeks and is almost always a mess. The garbage pails are often overflowing and used paper towels are literally all over the sink counter tops, floor and bathroom stalls. The floors in the locker room, bathrooms and shower stall areas are filthy. . When I compalined to the front desk personel, I was told the general manager was not there. I left a detailed note for the manager and no one contacted me as requestued. It is apparent that neither the Club management nor Corporate will not address the unsanitary conditions at this location. Members should make complaints to the Suffolk County Department of Health. When enough complaints are made and citations are issued, things will improve. Please make complaints and help effectuate change. read more

Love this gym! The staff is very friendly & they have great classes( Alison's boot camp is one of my fav's). Laura, who I believe is the manager, always has a smile on her face and is very accommodating. No matter what time of the day, the machines I use are available because they have so many & even plenty of room for floor workouts. I get a great workout in every time I'm there. This gym is one of the most disgusting gyms I Have ever been to. Besides the garbage cans over filling with dirty paper towels and the crust on all of the machines, half of the machines are broken. Today though was by far the worst. It's Friday, usually a pretty busy gym day, and they decide it's a great time to fix broken machines. So just on the cardio floor, two machines are completely taken apart with parts and tools lying all over the place and in the walkway. Seems like a sweet way to injure someone. Along with that, there is no one actually working on them! At the same time, I go to use the restroom, the only one is located in the women's locker room. Upon walking up to the entrance there is a sign saying "men working in locker room". Awesome. It may just be me, but I'm not super comfortable peeing in front of a bunch of dudes working in the women's bathroom. So, I decide to ask the front desk if I can use the "family/handicapped" bathroom in the hallway which they always have locked. They tell me no, bc I'm not handicapped. Wtf! So basically, they are saying there are NO female facilities available on a Friday , unless you feel comfortable peeing and changing in front of a bunch of random dudes. Totally unacceptable. read more

I started working out her because of the pool which was recently refurbished and is nice and clean and never crowded. I enjoy the hot tub and sauna and I find the locker room to be fairly clean but I wish that the lockers were larger. There is always plenty of equipment available. I work out with two of the personal trainers and neither has ever cancelled on me. Both continue to challenge me on a regular basis. The staff are all friendly and helpful. read more

I signed up for this gym recently. Nice facility, but the sales staff definitely use pressure tactics when I was speaking with them, which I did not appreciate. I felt like they would ask me questions but did not really listen to my answers ... they just wanted to sell me the next thing. I understand that they are in a sales position, however I myself am in sales and the key is to find a need and meet it in a way that shows the customer that it will benefit them. Show the customer that you care about their goals - fitness & financial. They wanted to sell me a ridiculously expensive package, including a high initiation fee (which I refused to pay - what's the point of an initiation fee anyways?!?! Their explanation really did not make sense) plus the personal training sessions, which were also expensive. If you decide to try it out, definitely negotiate on prices. I did intend to be negotiating when I went in - I just wanted to find out what their prices were since their phone lines were down and I could not get through by phone - however when they finally explained the prices to be, I refused to pay what they proposed. In the end I got exactly what I wanted and exactly what I felt comfortable with. Just stand your ground and they will work with you. As far as the equipment and facility goes, so far so good, hopefully it stays that way. I think the hardest part is dealing with the sales people. The only thing is that their class times are not very conducive to most working professionals, so I'm sure it will be rare if I attend a class because of their current schedule. It's a shame because some sound good. I put 2 stars due to my experience with their staff, but the facility definitely seems top quality so far. read more

This establishment lacks morals, integrity and upper management fails to take accountability..Been a member at the Medford location for roughly two years and could not be more disappointed in a gym. The staff highly incompetent when it comes to sanitation, safety, and caring. What forced me to leave was the landfill in the bathroom. The bathroom stalls would always be covered in fecal matter as if members thought it was the norm to defecate all over the joint. Hope you don't get pricked by all the razor blades that are left on the floors, never seen anything like it. Also you have trash bins overflowing with mountains of trash, and bottles. And the best part of it is that you have staff members notice it and simply ignore it. Another huge problem is equipment. Equipment is bound to break, I get It but when the same machine is down for five months because you can't find a replacement part, that's acceptable? read more

I can not believe LA Fitness hires bullies. I went to the gym later at night and the man at the counter was unsuccessful at finding my membership so another man tells us just to go in. In the middle of my brothers workout, a man goes up to him and grabs his weights. The man works there and yelled at him that he can't be in the gym as a guest without me being there. This would have been totally acceptable besides the fact that I was there with him. My brother is a calm person but this guy manager to get him angry. When I came over, the guy threatened to kick him out and to cancel my membership with no refund. The man then started giving me an attitude. I asked him for his name but he refused to give it to me. When I finally got a name out of him, it was a lie and I knew this because I followed him on Instagram. The guys name is Hesh and he told me it was Stephen. Later when they asked why we weren't signed in and we told them what happened, the guy that told us to just walk in lied and said they put everyone through the computer. They then wanted to make sure I was a member so they looked me up and didn't believe it was me. They demanded an ID so I gave it to them and they said on my account picture i was FAT! What do you think I was at the gym for??? After my experience I decided that I never want to go to the Patchogue LA Fitness ever again and I don't think I ever want to return to any LA Fitness if this is how their employees act. read more

The stair masters are all in shambles..all four of them. The hand grips have been broken off and I nearly fell off due to the sweat on my hands slipping on the bare metal. Some of them change levels dramatically while you are on. These issues really need to be rectified. I smell a law suit when someone seriously hurts themselves on these machines. read more

I had a good experience in the beginning, loved their spin classes and most instructors (the ones that actually knew what they were doing). With that being said, I found the staff to be rude and not helpful whenever I approached them wth a question. The manager with dark long hair had an attitude as well. In addition to this, half of the machines are broken and the gym is extremely crowded and dirty. I once had to try 5 different treadmills because they were all broken and not scheduled for service. The spin room had gum spit out on the floor and after complaining it was still dirty the next day. Oh and the meat-heads are no positive addition to this awful experience. God forbid you want to lift weights, you first have to squeeze through grown men in tank tops showing off their biceps.. ridiculous. I have been going to the LA Fitness in Patchogue for about 8 months now, at the begining it was good, but now they just keep recruiting more and more persons, NOW its so crowded I cannot even get a locker in the mens room. The locker stench is so bad I could barely breathe when I go in there. People are just so disrespectful, they workout in sleeveless shirts letting their sweat pour all over the equipment and dont even wipe it down, they smell terribly, and the GYM does nothing to try and help with this, the parking lot is so crowded you have to fight for a spot everytime I go there, I basically am done with this place!!! read more

A big gym with lots of equipment - most of which is older than most other gyms, dirty and lots of broken equipment signs every day. The place is very busy so is dirty all the time, without exception. I joined due to moving my business and needing a place to go at lunch, reasonably close to work. My former gym is now 25 miles away or I would go back there in a heart beat! This place is a good facility with large rooms for cardio, classes, weights, a nice basketball gym and pool (that is also fairly dirty most of the time). I have been going for 3 weeks now and the Mens' bathroom/locker room is disgustingly dirty. the area where the urinals, toilets are located has stuff on the walls that nobody wants to see, the showers so dirty that you fear for your health if you look too closely at the walls or floors. The pool water is cloudy all the time, they say they check it every hour and a half, so the chemicals are probably very high, thank God. I asked how often they clean it and the answer was "every week or so", i asked after i saw a band aid and something that I had no idea about floating as i swam laps...... This Gym Manager should be fired! They need to have a person full time cleaning the locker rooms for a gym that busy. the only time I have seen anyone in the locker rooms was a girl...now i know she did not clean too well cause there were a bunch of naked and half naked guys in there, so she was getting out of there as soon as she emptied the trash....Come On LA Fitness, get your act together! If I can find a suitable replacement close enough I am gone!!!! I hear others are very nice, so the Manager should be fired if he can't get it right! read more

This gym is simply not worth the membership cost. Its mismanaged , filthy , equipment not fixed for weeks and even months. The Spa is a total disaster. I'm surprised that Suffolk county did not shut it down. They yes you to death and make promises they do not keep. Its really a beautiful gym with children running is. This seems to be the case for most of the LA Fitness gyms. Join the YMCA down the road. read more
