    What ever gym needs

Holy shit this location is better than any other location that I been too where I live in fl. Spacious,Not a lot of people, equipment that I've only seen on Instagram. I mean this place is nice. Got in enjoyed my workout and that true stretch station is the fucking truth. I gotta find a LA Fitness like this back home.

I have quite a bit to say about LA Fitness, so my thoughts might not come in any particular order... UPDATE 6/21/2013... The building's exterior is finally rebranded. The only interior change, is that cleanliness is now on the back burner. They removed cleaning stations all across the gym. You've really gotta walk to find one to clean up after yourself. So as it goes, most people don't. Gross. Now, automatic paper towel dispensers have been replaced by manual ones. Sanitizing spray bottles have been replaced by bathroom-style soap dispensers, and open trash cans have been replaced by push flap ones. Instead of touching only the spray bottle in the process of cleaning up after myself, I now have to touch two more dirty things - the paper towel crank and garbage can lid - if I want to be a good gym patron and "sanitize" machines I just left sweat on. ORIGINAL 4/14/2013... All in all, I would say this is a pretty terrible gym in my experiences. It started off branded as an Urban Active Fitness in 2007 and not much has been done to it since, even with LA Fitness corporate buyout. The upkeep of the gym is nonexistent, despite the maintenance fees they charge. Most elliptical and treadmills have something wrong with them, be it the attached televisions, the stride length meters, the timers, the resistance, the headphone jacks, and/or the range of motion of the pedals. (Some of the pedals seem to extend too low, which can lead to potential injury.) So pretty much everything you would want out of one of those cardio machines is dysfunctional in at least one of those ways I mentioned. I have even left messages in the comment box, but nothing has ever changed or been fixed. Some of those machines are beyond repair and need to just be replaced with new ones altogether. The cleaning staff does a really good job keeping floors spotless. Sometimes they start cleaning a little prematurely before the closing hour, which can be annoying, but the place at least appears clean. I wish they wouldn't mop the staircases or use some of the smelly cleaning chemicals they use until after close. When I am giving it my all on a treadmill, clean, non-ammonia filled air is preferred. I do wish a few fresh coats of paint were applied here and there, as well as fresh carpet in high traffic areas. I feel like that's not unreasonable to ask for as a paying member for a place that sells itself as being an upscale gym. Be wary of their heavily advertised "month to month" plan, because it is a contract in disguise. My friend went to cancel his month to month services and they charged him an exorbitant fee for canceling, even though the name and concept would imply it is not a contract. In fact, a couple years ago, Urban Active was sued for extending member contracts without permission, making it difficult to leave. Look it up. Apparently they didn't understand though. If you've been a member from Urban Active's opening, like I have, you probably don't care about some of that stuff if you haven't experienced it or don't use that equipment. The lack of upkeep of the equipment is pretty bad though, considering the money they have to make, hand over fist from training packages. If a machine goes down, it seems to take about a month for it to be operational again. I'm not sure if parts have to be special ordered, or what. Speaking of training packages, those are also a joke. (Teach yourself even some basics about fitness and you'll see most of their training plans are designed to minimally work you out, with the intent of getting you to sign up for more expensive training regimens.) I took advantage of a free training session and the workouts were largely a joke. The couple of members of the training staff I have encountered are incredibly nice, but if you're new and signing up for services, keep in mind they are salesmen trying to keep you on board for continued training services. Their number one goal is not your fitness, it's their pocketbooks. That is clearly evident when they sit you down and first offer you an $1800/month package, which is in addition to membership costs. I've had this happen twice, so it's not a coincidence, but rather how they conduct business. It's also incredibly annoying when trainers take up 10+ free weights and a large amount of space for one of their sessions. Just because I am smart enough to not pay for that doesn't mean I should be punished by not being able to use equipment or space at the gym. It's impossible for one person to hold that many weights at the same time anyways. Get over yourselves. My advice would be not to waste your money here, although your options for gyms in the area that aren't built into strip malls, or old Food Town locations with foggy windows, is very slim. The only reason I haven't left is because of the super convenient location between home and work. Not to mention, I don't want to pay any stupid contract cancellation fees until I move out of town.

Unfortunately, they made some changes and consolidated some spaces, etc. One of those changes was severely cutting their hours. I believe they close at 8:00 p.m. throughout the week now, and 2:00 p.m. on the weekends! These hours don't fit most people's lives, especially mine as a night shift nurse. I can handle rearranging some equipment and even closing the kids club, but if I can't get there because they close so doggone early it's not worth me paying for it. By the way, even though they cut out several hours per week of available gym time for clients, they did not cut out any of the very expensive monthly dues for members. This business is owned by ProMedica and if I didn't know any better I would think that they didn't care about encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle, and that they only cared about money. And then I remembered that I am a ProMedica nurse and that is absolutely, 100%, the case! They made these changes to the hours from a financial standpoint, not thinking about their clientele or giving a crap if anyone actually visits the gym (so long as they pay their monthly dues).

Parker and Jason were great at explaining the membership options and gym fees. I feel like most of us are excited about joining a health club, and more often than not, we bypass the understanding that all gyms have yearly fees and cancellation fees; this is completely normal. In my opinion, the highlights of this gym include the space and variety of rooms available to ensure a great workout. They offer 2-3 different machines for the upper, mid, and lower body, which is great! For advanced fitness enthusiasts, this means you won't have to wait to complete your workout routine. For beginners, I highly recommend hiring one of their skilled personal trainers to start your fitness journey the right way. Any day is a good day to practice self-care. So far, one of my favorite machines is the standing hamstring curl; this machine is a gem, and I'm super happy they have it. The gym is clean, the bathrooms are neat, the weights are organized, and they offer spray bottles with towels for you to wipe down the machines after every use. I have yet to try the classes and provide feedback, or the smoothie bar, hydro massage, and sauna. Eventually, I will. This health club has a lot to offer for everyone, no matter what fitness level you are at. I'm glad I started going here, and I'm looking forward to making new friends.

Planet Fitness sent me an NPS survey asking for honest feedback. I gave them a low score and explained why: it's hard to recommend a fitness club when the staff doesn't reflect the health-oriented mission of the brand. They asked for feedback, and I answered the question. A few days later, I received a phone call from the Sylvania location telling me that my comments were "inappropriate" because Planet Fitness is a "Judgement Free Zone." The irony is hard to miss. The company solicited my opinion, then scolded me for giving it. Meanwhile, the brand itself openly labels certain behaviors as "lunk" behavior--so the judgment evidently only flows one direction. Instead of having a professional conversation about my concerns, they reprimanded me. At that point, I asked them to cancel my membership, which they did immediately and without any real interest in understanding why. If a business isn't prepared to hear honest feedback, it shouldn't ask for it. This experience showed me that the "Judgement Free Zone" motto is applied selectively and inconsistently. Unfortunately, that ended my time as a member.

So I'm not sure if that's true, but I will admit that if you do CrossFit, you're always thinking about CrossFit because some muscle group(s) is/are always sore. And if you're thinking about it, you're probably talking about it... CrossFit Toledo is an excellent training facility with excellent instructors. This place is big and clean and equipped with everything you need to learn the craft safely and effectively. Not only can you learn CrossFit here, you can learn to excel at it. If you're motivated, and you listen to the coaches, you can get a kickass workout in this place no matter your CrossFit experience level or fitness level. Warning: Even if you think you're in shape, CrossFit Toledo will expose your weaknesses. Be prepared to deal with this. Again, listen to your coaches, work hard, and you WILL get better. If you're a newbie, you don't have to worry about biting off more than you can chew. Check your ego at the door, learn how to "scale" (that is, learn how to cheat a little while learning the movements and still get an appropriate workout). Also, every new member goes through a couple of "skills" classes where you get, essentially, one-on-one instructions regarding the basic lifts and movements. Workouts; There are 5 classes per day (0600, 1200, 1600, 1700, and 1815), and class size is limited to 12 people. Every class is different. I repeat, every class is different. But, each class is similar in that they all consist of a warmup, a strength phase, and a conditioning phase. There's also a "homebody" option. Even if you have equipment at home, half the benefit of this place is the coaching and the camaraderie. ALSO, there are multiple open-gym sessions through the week. Camaraderie: It's definitely there; this seems like a great group of people. One guy acknowledges that some people call it "CultFit." But hey, can you name ANY fitness pursuit isn't "culty?" Bodybuilding? Culty for the past 80 years. Running? Not as culty as it was, but still very culty. Yoga? Yep, laid back and totally culty. Don't worry about it. You can do CrossFit and still be friends with a person who doesn't...but only one. 5 stars!
