This place does not suck but they were better pre pandemic. This is my third choice for tacos in Shelbyville. The salsa bars is gone. That was a really nice part of this taqueria. It was one of the main reasons I came here. The chorizo needs to be cooked harder. I like it more when it's cooked crispy. I like the little charred bits. Same with the pork. It needs color. Brown food tastes good. Grey food not as much. The salsas are good. The hot is a salsa verde and it has a little heat. The fire is a red salsa and it's no joke. Seriously hot. The food tasted great and the service was good! Not a ton of variety but it's a small place. I ate the marinated pork(marinated in pineapple) quesadilla with rice as my side. My daughter had a chicken quesadilla which was delicious as well. The rice was dry so I wouldn't recommend. The mango salsa was super flavorful & the green sauce was just the right heat! More authentic. The place doesn't look impressive from the road or on the inside, but their Inspection rating was an "A" and the food was good. They also cook with Corn Oil which gives the food a cleaner flavor plus my wife has a Soy Allergy so she can't eat at many restaurants because they use Vegetable Oil or Soybean Oil. The only suggestion I'd make is for the onions and cilantro to be made available separately on the bar. I like more cilantro and less onions than were available in the mixture. This is your typical mexican restaurant. The food was decent, a 6/10 for the tacos. However the sopes are to die for. Portion sizes for meat on tacos are a little small but the tacos were two dollars. The restaurant isn't really inviting and the decor looks old. Service was decent. read more

We moved to Shelbyville last year and have tried quite a few restaurants here. La Poblanita is by far our favorite. It's clean, friendly and helpful staff, the food is amazing and it's just all around perfect. If you leave here without a Churro, you made a terrible mistake. The carnitas are the tits as well as the Chicken Quesadilla. And also you can get glass bottle cokes here so that's pretty sweet too. You would have to be a true A-hole to give this place less than 5 stars. read more

Best tacos in Shelbyville! This place is so authentic, we had the pollo tacos and they were DELICIOUS. I also ordered a churro and it was very fresh and hot. The service was relatively quick for the amazing food we got. There is a side bar of salsas and toppings as well so it was easy to get all of my favorite condiments. We got our tacos to go and they wrapped the tacos in foil inside of the to-go box so they would stay warm. Awesome place, totally recommended hands down. read more

I ate here today expecting some tasty food, based on the reviews. The girl working the counter was very nice and took my order promptly. Chips and salsa costs extra which was not something I was expecting. The chips came out of a bag instead of being made in house. Not only that, but they were served cold. The salsa was not salsa at all. It tasted and looked like V8 juice or something. No indication of any other ingredient other that tomato and maybe water. I ordered a steak taco, a marinated pork taco, and a lengua taco. They came out nice and fresh. I liked the soft corn tortillas, however the lengua and the steak tacos had little to no flavor. The marinated pork was pretty good, especially with the couple of hot sauces that they have available. Overall, the service was great and prompt, but the food was less than desirable (other than the marinated pork taco). I've been to many better taquerias than this around the Louisville area. read more

My family absolutely LOVES La Poblanita. My kids love the simple, delicious tacos. They are picky eaters, so it says a lot that they get excited over a trip there. I have had tacos de carne asada (steak) twice and they've been amazing both times. I've heard friends rave about the wet burrito. My SO gave two thumbs up for the chicken burrito and was off the charts excited about his hotter than life fire sauce. The sauces are authentic and you get choose those yourself. No small packets, but rather a bar loaded with fresh, homemade sauces. My favorite is a red (almost orange, really) sauce found by the green sauce. The pico de gallo is pretty much perfection too. Personally, my favorite thing about this hole in the wall restaurant is that it is 100% authentic. This is quickly obvious by the number of Latinos popping in during lunch hour. There's no added sauce, as you often find in Mexican restaurants here. The food is served just as it was when I lived in Mexico. This business has been hopping both times I was there. We came in when it was empty, but a line formed behind us and extended out the door at "lunch time." The girls running the restaurant are so kind and friendly. We had the best lunch today and it was busy there. People love this restaurant. I had 3 tacos (2 steak and one chicken) and my friend had a dry steak burrito. We ordered chips, salsa and guacamole and everything was delicious. Restaurant was pristine clean and the food was so fresh. Guacamole was beautiful and we mixed in salsa and fresh lime to our liking. The steak burrito was excellent and flavorful. My tacos were top quality and so very fresh and flavorful.
