But when you do come in you are greeted by a small, but charming little restaurant with a very nice and speedy staff. I ordered the mole enchiladas (chicken) and the mole sauce was incredible, the sure sign of a place that knows what they are doing. My only complaint was that the salsa and sauces provided were a bit on the bland side, even with adding a touch of hot sauce it didnt help much. The beef was so flavorful, with a nice crust and tons of golden onions and yummy jalapeños. Delicious! The dish was big enough to split. We also got the fajitas which were huge and really good as well. The avocado was a nice touch. The beer was cold and the salsa was off the charts, with a slight hint of chipotle. Perfect! I've had a lot of Mexican food, this was the best I've ever had. The service was incredibly efficient and our waitress was quick to refill our beverages whenever needed. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and they were the right combination of spice and flavor. This was my first time here and have been craving this specific place ever since. Nothing had any flavor, I don't know how it's possible to make chicken and beans and rice all the same bland flavor but that's what it felt like. If you don't know where La Loma is, you may pass it by. If you do pass by, make sure you turn around or you will miss a great place to eat. I am a huge fan of tacos, so I had to try at least one. The campechano was extremely flavorful without being overly greasy, like some I have had before. My son, who is a man of few words, only said that the quesadilla was 'good'. But, he cleared his plate, and we all know that actions speak louder than words. With a name like el Diablo, one would expect a super spicy burrito. It wasn't. Which was a bit disappointing. But the chicken was tender and the burrito was stuffed to bursting with lots of goodies, so how can one truly complain? Besides the good food, La Loma has superb service. This place doesn't get 5 stars for being the fanciest place. In fact it doesn't look like much from the outside. But go inside and order off the menu and you'll taste Mexican food that is just like my mother would make. While other Mexican restaurants may have that one best taco you must try, or have innovated into a delicious fusion of authentic and foreign flavors, this place gets 5 stars for Mexican authenticity. It isn't a "oh you have to try this dish" type of place but more of a "now this is where to get a homemade Mexican type of meal place". Seriously. When I bite into the frijoles(beans) and chorizo(Mexican sausage), I can picture my mother feeding us telling us to " be careful, it's hot" as we tried to blow off the heat just enough to be able to bite into it as fast as possible. This place has half a dozen booths inside with a few tables in the middle but boasts several more tables in its outdoor patio which is a good spot to watch cars drive by and chat when the weather is comfortable. I've been here a couple dozen times in the past couple of years and not much has changed; I'm always grateful that the the same authentic taste in the food has remained the same. The hole in the wall feel makes me feel comfortable coming here in gym clothes or taking a date to taste a real authentic Mexican dish. The menu has most of these authentic dishes I speak of but several "Tex-Mex" dishes seem to have slowly made its way on the menu in the past year. I always recommend getting the dishes you don't recognize when going for authentic. I've seen many non Spanish speaking people come in here and the waitresses have always seemed to manage fine and the menu is pretty descriptive (in English language) on what a dish has so don't let that steer you away. Also it's only a few minute drive from downtown Louisville and is an easy on and off the expressway type of place. Give this place a try! read more

Phenomenal! Absolutely delicious. From the outside I don't know what to think, but some of the nicest people cooking some of the best food I've ever eaten. Sometimes that's just no words to describe certain experiences. You should really just come in and try it out. I had carne asada today, it's thinly sliced but so delicious. I could've eaten a lot more. The peppers and onions were great to go with it. The chips and salsa are great. I'm a big fan of salsa and they have some great stuff they're making. Amazing and authentic. First off, don't be discouraged by the outside, the inside and food were great. They have a small covered patio in front with about 3 tables, as well as all staff were wearing masks. Our waitress was super friendly and quick. She spoke English well despite some of the previous complaints and was super sweet. My husband, friend and I came here for lunch on a Saturday. It was not loud or crowded as some previous posts had stated, but had a steady stream of people. This is a great sign for any restaurant. We ordered a Michelada, Coronita margarita, and Horchata. All were delicious but the Horchata was the best I've had. Not too much cinnamon but had a little punch. It's not on the menu so ask...We ordered the queso and Paleta Super Special which consisted of shrimp, octopus, clamato, lime etc. Anything with Clamato is a winner for me. It was nice, you could taste the cilantro (my favorite herb) plus onion and it was spicy. I LOVE SPICY FOOD. The queso was good but a bit runny. I would only order it again if the chorizo was in it. It needed something to grab onto the chips with. I ordered the Camarones A La Crema, aka.. shrimp with Cream cheese. It was not overpowering, and was a nice mix with the shrimp, rice and sub beans. I just wish it had some kind of kick to it. Remember, I like spice. It was a bit heavy but I would order again. Due to the heaviness I have lunch for tomorrow. I also ordered a Tripa Taco to go. I used to hate Tripe until I had it in a taco and now I'm obsessed. This one was good but I wish it had more spices. Again...I like spice. Doesn't need to be hot spice, but a bit more seasoning. I would still order it again though but add cojita cheese to it. The fajitas and enchiladas were tasty as well per the men, not bland and smelled amazing. Very authentic. All and all the portions were huge, the flavor was authentic and the service was great. My only complaint is I wish they provided little plates for the Appetizers because everything was messy and dripping all over the table.. which means it was delicious. We for sure will be back. I thought all the excellent reviews had to be exaggerations so we popped in for a try. This place is excellent! When a Mexican restaurant is full of all Hispanic families when you walk in I believe that is a great first sign of authenticity. And it was. Only one table left out of 12 and a bar. The menu is in Espanol for the most part, but there are lots of pics. Expect to have fun and not of much talking because the music is loud. Fun upbeat Latin music, of course. The kids loved it! The menu is extensive, with lots of $7.49 lunch specials, and everything you would expect at a Mexican restaurant, plus a lot of steaks and seafood. I ordered one of the lunch specials: chorizo and eggs. The chorizo and eggs were delicious, and came with four flour tortillas and more salsa. The beans and rice were run of the mill. So, in summary, the waitress was nice. The chips and salsa were good, and I really liked the dipping salsa. The chorizo and eggs were great. The lunch special price was good. Either way, it is hands down the best restaurant in Louisville for Mexican cuisine. You could probably come to that conclusion before even sitting down! You're now thinking... but... it is in Indiana...that's so...FAR! I know. Please trust me it is worth the trip across the "forbidden bridge". Really, Louisville friends, we've gotta get past this Indiana stigma soon. The menu is HUGE and the TVs are permanently stuck on telenovelas, but if you can move past that, you're golden. As far as food is concerned, I ordered the shrimp tostadas, which were perfection, as long as the shrimp is fresh. The ambiance reminded me of 24 hour hole in the wall Mexican restaurants that make badass breakfast burritos. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I ordered the chicken verde enchiladas. They were so dry and did not have much flavor at all. The salsa was okay and so were the chips. Definitely not anything to write home about. The service was great until I got my food. No one came to check and see how the food was. I wanted to ask for more Verde sauce because whatever sauce had been on it, was scarce and just soaked right into the tortillas. I couldn't taste it at all, only the dry shredded chicken. Rice and beans were okay but I've definitely had better. Margarita did not have enough tequila. I'd rather pay a little extra for it and have a decent margarita. I had to wave someone down to ask for a check and box for the rest of my food, even though I was the only person left in the restaurant (there was more than an hour left of them being open). After a long day of work on a Saturday, I was looking for a hot, tasty and affordable meal. My colleague told me about the good authentic food at La Loma, so I decided to check it out. It was a Saturday evening around 8 pm and when I set foot inside the restaurant, I noticed that I was the only non-hispanic person in the restaurant which I took as an excellent sign of authenticity. Upon studying the menu, I initially got the impression that this was a standard Tex-Mex restaurant but once I got past the lunch specials, I noticed dishes like beef ribs, pork rind stew, beef tongue stew and octopus. Yup, it certainly seemed like they served some authentic Mexican dishes (I am guessing because I have never actually been to Mexico). The decor was casual and clean, with some booths but mostly tables. There were at least 3 TVs, all of them playing Spanish channels which added to the authentic atmosphere. The friendly waitress asked me what I would like drink and on a whim I ordered the melon aqua fresca. Normally, I would be more inclined to order a horchata but wow that (honeydew?) melon drink was really good! It might just replace horchata as my favorite aqua fresca. Knowing myself though, I will probably try one of the other aqua frescas (like pineapple) on my next visit. The fact that I am already writing about a subsequent visit tells you that I really liked this restaurant. The entree prices were pretty reasonable. I played it a bit safe when i ordered my entree, decided to hold off on the tongue, rinds, etc. and got the chicken a la Mexicano which was grilled strips of chicken in a spicy tomato onion and jalapeno sauce, served with rice, beans and tortillas. Very tasty dish and even the tortillas seemed a bit more flavorful than your average Tex-Mex restaurant. The spice level of my dish was pretty good and my salsa was also a bit on the spicy side but that's just how I like it. All in all, an enjoyable tasty meal, in a setting which kind of immerses you, and makes you feel a little bit like you are in Mexico (or how I would imagine it to be). I really liked the experience and I will be back to eat my way through the menu! read more

My boyfriend and I checked out La Loma last night which came highly recommended by several folks. Our hopes were so high and the food was good and reasonably priced but I do have a few callouts. When arriving, we stood there and watched the hostess/server text for a couple mins and she didn't look up at us...not even once. Once being seated, the complimentary salsa had a solid flavor but they must have just pulled it out of the back of a fridge because it was i y cold...and I mean icy. We had to flag down our waitress to order cheese dip, like actually stand up and walk over to her. As for drink refills, she refilled my boyfriends sweet tea cup with water. As for food, I ordered a side of rice I never received. The ribeye taco was a bit chewy for me but my chorizo taco was legit phenomenal! I've driven pass this place a thousand times and never once thought to stop and eat there. Until someone told me they wrote a review and have some of the best fish tacos. I decided to eat there for lunch today. Immediately when I road up as expected the outside didn't look appealing. However I wanted to give the restaurant an honest review. When I walked in the place looked a lot better on the inside. The servers were extremely friendly and helpful with guiding me through the menu.
