Good traditional Mexican restaurant with big selection of different dishes & meats. Food is good with fresh ingredients and good portions! They had an amazing crab bisque as soup of the day and a delicious carrot cake. These traditional type restaurants are hard to beat, no nonsense just good food, they end up being more satisfying than the newer trendy ones. Close to the boarder crossing into USA so great place to enjoy a meal while line gets better. read more

OMG...this is exactly what I was in the mood for! I have been to all the "cool"spots in TJ and I really do love them all. The one type of restaurant I hadn't been to so far is a "traditional Mexican restaurant" ...and the funny thing is that the decor seems to be what Mexican restaurants in America are inspired by. The place was clean...super clean and looked like traditional Mexican decor. I guess this is the spot that locals have been coming to for years. COVID precautions. ... they took our temp we cleaned the bottom of our shoes we were required to sanitize before entering the tables are spaced out servers wore a mask AND a shield I had a combo plate with a Chile relleno and a taco...OMG so damn good! we were told by a friend that the chocolate flan is the best ever...and I think they are right! I also had a margarita and it was made to perfection. Are you freaking kidding me!!!?? No tea served at the bar but no problem with drinking water!!!! They refused to serve me a hot tea at the bar and had no problem with me spending an hour at the bar with nothing to drink. However, some people around are drinking bottled water and it's perfectly fine with them. What a customer service. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place, not because of the food but the way they run it he place the mentality, I wanted to order from the lids menu because I'm Baritric and I'm not able to eat a full meal, my consumption is about 8oz of food or liquids at a time, and they did not sell me a kids. The food here was amazing, great quality ingredients and amazing prices. We got the Molcajete Patron, and it was amazing, and enough for two hungry people. Came in to wait for my name for about 40 minutes, came in got sat down in probably the worst table ever. Sat for about 10 minutes with a food menu and they came around to ask us what we wanted to drink, we didn't even know what they offered... so again another 10-15 minutes to come around. As we wait for our food order I kept getting pushed into my chair from servers and people walking around. So uncomfortable. I ordered drinks with water, I got my water half way done with my drink, I didn't even get ice WTF. so irritated I already was jacque came around again and I told her I wanted ice... I waited another 10 minutes, my husband tried to call her over, I called her over and this was my second time asking for just a simple glass of water. I came because of their menu orginally but being Valentine's Day there was only about 9 different plates to choose from. The food that we ordered was: Carne Asada fries, two enchiladas, two horchata water, and a fruit bowl. The carne asada fries were good this food was warm but, got me sick immediately from my stomach. The enchiladas were horrible they were cold the tortilla for the enchilada and was hard to chew. The horchata water if you call that horchata water DID NOT taste like horchata water it tasted like cinnamon with water. What can I say about fruit, was fresh and juicy. I had great expectations about this place, but they were not fulfilled. The service is really slow even when the restaurant was not full. More than 20 minutes to even bring the check. The drinks are really good: I ordered a tamarindo margarita and a Clamato; both delicious. Filete a la fogata: I returned this dish because the fish was not fresh at all. Pescado entero frito in seafood sauce: not good, even though it looked great on the menu. Tortilla soup: just ok. It was in a Monday, maybe that's why just no energy. For a place with some prestige you would think no matter what day, they would show some eagerness to please your customers. I visited this place with my boyfriend 2 years ago and the whole experience was great. The food was great for the price that we paid. This weekend I decided to take my family to eat, it was a big party (10 people) since we were celebrating a birthday. We got to the restaurant at 9 and we didn't leave until 11:30. They made us wait an hour to be seated and another hour to get our food. We were going to leave, but I thought it was disrespectful since they were already firing it. We are also not the type of family to make a huge drama, so we just sat and waited. At the end of the night the check had a bunch of things added to our tab that we did not get-- again we didn't say anything we just paid. They obviously took advantage that we were a large group and we look really young. The food was decent, but the long waits were unacceptable. Needless to say I would not going back. read more

A group of twelve photographers went to La Fogata last week. The main reason we went there was that we were at the Centro Cultural Tijuana and this restaurant was right across the street. Clean, a bit dark, with a nice ambiance, they had no problem pushing tables together to accommodate all of us. The service was attentive, efficient, friendly and excellent all around. As for the food, I give what I had five stars, a Tampequeña Plate, which was served with a cup of delicious chicken soup as a starter. The beef was grilled perfectly and was delicious and tender. It obviously had been marinated for some hours. I would not mind having the recipe. The plate also came with beans, guacamole, rice and a cheese enchilada. Highly recommended if you're hungry! The hand made corn tortillas were also very good. My fellow eleven diners had a variety of dishes, the lunch special which was cochinita pibil, chicken tampequeña, goat stew, combination plates and I know not what else. All I know everybody liked the food and quite a few of them had Margaritas. The bill came to about $15 per person including tip. Very reasonable! If you're at the Cultural Center, or just passing through, I can highly recommend La Fogata, which I gather has been there for some time. A tip for would be diners: We never pay in Dollars, but change enough money to Pesos to cover our meals. Makes things much easier. read more

Well the atmosphere is nice and the sangria was good (or else it would be 1 star because everything else was far off base). They totally forgot about our order for 30 minutes and when we reminded them it all came out cold... Some stuff wasn't cooked at all, and we even ended up with a vegetable that still had it's sticker on it which made me a little concerned if they washed it. Overall, quite disorganized and definitely not worth it. Check out El Rodeo if you're looking for a great steakhouse instead. read more

The decor and restraint is very nice and clean. There's a nice ambiance for dinner. They have both a lunch and breakfast menu depending on the time of day but you can order lunch during the morning. Chips and salsa they give you are pretty good. read more

We ate here daily for our visit to Tijuana. The best margarita ever. Get the Cadillac, blended or frappè. Queso fundido is delish. A lot for two people! The guacamole is a generous portion and quite tasty. Great fish dishes. Excellent service. The soups they have are flavorful and yummy. Once, our server brought us a bowl of gringo salsa because she thought the other one was too hot for us. So sweet! There's even a fresh tortilla corner, with a beautiful lady making them. Yeah baby. Looks can be deceiving. I wanna start off by saying I went to this spot as part of my mini vacay while I was there the place had looked very nice and I had read things on yelp about it... Me and my dad and son got seated we waited to be served and as we were waiting we had gotten seated by the kitchen area so I had full access to the view ... I ordered pancakes and bacon and my dad asked for a quesadilla which was not on the menu and when he ordered it the lady looked at him and said a quesadilla??? Like if she didn't know what it was but she did the order for us and while we were waiting for our food we waited along time and during that time the employees were putting on there makeup near by the food area and this one employee was texting while she was supposed to be sweeping and instead of sweeping one way she swept towards the kitchen didn't make sense. I also noticed that the girls working there had drinks to which they were drinking nothing against that but the thing that shocked me the most was that they placed those drinks on a table to which those drinks were going out to the customers!!! I was blown away... the food wasn't all that great but the service was horrible would not go again. And would not reccommend this place. read more

We, my familia and I, got here really early. I ordered the Hot Cakes a "La Fogata" it included 2 eggs, bacon strips, hashbrowns, and 2 pancakes. The eggs were delicious. The bacon was crunchy, but cold. The hashbrowns were cold and they tasted gross. The pancakes were cold and they tasted exactly like frozen-type pancakes. They literally bought frozen pancakes and heated them in a microwave. The edges of the pancakes were really hard. However, the coffee was really good. The service was slow. Long story short, I will NEVER come back to this place, again. I don't recommend it. read more

I ordered chorizo con huevo because I thought, there's no way you can go wrong with that. The chorizo wasn't fully cooked, so the eggs had a nasty taste and smell to them. The waitress asked if I didn't like the food and when I said no she said, "well you should have told us how you wanted us to cook it for you, we can't guess". Well... Very few people in the restaurant so don´t understand why service is so poor; perhaps management needs further training on basic principles of good customer service... My friend from TJ told me about this place over 30 years ago as the best steakhouse in TJ. It probably was but after 9/11, TJ had to reinvent itself and many restaurants stepped up. La Fogata is great for romantic live music. I recommend only coming here for a couple of drinks and sitting in the bar area to enjoy the live music. NOTHING MORE! When we first got here I ordered a glass of water. Server comes back with bottles . His excuse was 1) am am new 2) we normally offer bottles to Americans. 3) we only offer bottles now. I was wearing a cholos vest and a tijuana cap! My GF is Mexican! From Tijuas! Such A bullshit and inappropriate response. Basically saying we take advantage of Americans. We have ordered agua natural here before at no charge just 5 days ago. Next I ordered a medium rare porterhouse. Came back well done and tough as shoe leather. Complained. Brought me a new steak. Still tough as leather. Most expensive thing on menu and poor quality! Probably frozen and not even select. I am guessing commercial grade. La Fogata is in Tijuana, I had to actually give this place 5 stars!! Even though, I have only been there 1 time! It is pretty much a Luxurious place at night. These are some reasons of why is the the best. The place is fancy and there is always a lady singing awesomely beautiful, instead of the place putting music on the radios. Also, because the food there is tremendously delicious, they serve you in a plate in the middle with everything you ordered, but instead of a normal plate, it is one plate the has a stick on the bottom holding it (I guess). My mom, dad and I never said that we didn't like this and this. The last but not least reason might be because, the place is really beautiful, the restaurant is made out of wood, but the place is huge/big, the chefs cook in like a chimney....Or something else but not really in a chimney. Anyways these are the reasons why La Fogata, is a good place to go eat. read more
