We were greeted quickly by the lovely owner, she took our order and then chatted with us a bit. We order chips and salsa, the salsa was good. The chips a little thicker than we like but still good. I had a carnitas taco. The taco was on a flour tortilla, with onion and cilantro. The pork was very tender and good. I also had the fajita chicken taco. I would order them both as street tacos next time. My husband had the chicken flauta and quesadilla. The chicken was moist, and the flauta was tasty. Glass bottle cokes for drinks. I didn't take any pictures, unfortunately, because was hungry and just wanted to eat. I ordered the "mi Casita" burrito with chicken and no sour cream and it wasn't the worst I've eaten, it was far from the best. My biggest complaint was that the burrito wasn't wrapped very good at all, causing it to literally fall apart in my hand....I literally had to rip the tortilla and try to get as much filling in it as I could since there was no way to eat it like a burrito since just picking it up was impossible. Also for a Mexican food place, it was very much Tex-Mex and the only meat option they had was beef or chicken. At least the beans tasted like they prob make it there, but there was so much in that burrito that I couldn't taste the chicken until the burrito was half gone. Wanted some quick breakfast tacos and decided to drop by. The place is super small and most of it's traffic comes from drive thru. Literally 3 tables and a small ordering counter. There was a weird sewer like smell coming from the back. I ordered 3 breakfast tacos. Bacon and Egg, Potato and Egg, and Chorizo and Egg. Surprisingly, the chorizo didn't taste bad! What ever they used was pretty good. Actually none of them tasted bad at all, they were all pretty good. What was distasteful was the raw tortilla. The tortillas were not fully cooked but rather warmed. They obviously use store bought tortillas. Most of these tortillas aren't fully cooked, they are too white. (No pun intended). Tortillas should have a little brown in them. The salsa is obviously not homemade, and the taste of raw tomato and cilantro is evident. Also, thought it was weird they served the tacos in aluminum foil even though I asked to eat there. Chips with my breakfast tacos was a first as well. Stopped here while visiting UNT and was SO impressed. Highlights: - The chips were magical. I don't know what they put on them but they were out of this world good. - Breakfast is served all day! Funny thing, this was the very first place we ate at in Denton but I haven't been here in years. After driving all night across the state with a Uhaul, our apartment was not ready and this place was walking distance from where we were parked. That's it, that's the only reason we came here, but it was our introduction to Denton cuisine. I have also eaten here several times after settling in, but it's been about 10 years since I've tried it. I think subconsciously I always think they are closed because their University location (Mi Casita Express) is more convenient for me and it has much shorter hours. That location is always closed when I'm over on Sunset or University, so by proxy I assume this location is, but it's open 7am until 10pm during the week. They close at 5pm on Saturday and are closed on Sundays. I've always used the drive thru, I find this parking lot a little tighter for accessing the drive thru than their Express location. It's also easier to access when heading North on Carroll. I've never found their service memorable in one direction or the other, except I have a few memories of them being slow, but the food is pretty cheap and pretty good for the price. I got the al la carte items this time around as I've only had their breakfast tacos and burritos in the past. I got a flauta for $1.89, a carne asada taco for $2.49, a side of rice for $1.89 and a side of beans for $1.89. Initially the order was given to me without the rice and beans... half the order. They fixed it, so no big deal, but if someone gets home before discovering the missing items that would be a huge nuisance. They give you complimentary chips and salsa with your order. The chips are thick, like I prefer, but they were getting a little stale and didn't have a lot of flavor. The salsa was okay, middle of the road. It would be a good option for someone sensitive to spice or heat, it's on the bland side. However, these chips and salsa came from a drive thru and are complimentary, so that fits with expectations rather well actually. The flauta was pretty good. I would have preferred it if the temperature was hotter, but it was still really good and worth the price. The rice and beans were extremely large portions for the price and were alright. The portion is so big, it can feed 2 or 3 people for sides, at least the beans could. The rice tasted a lot better than it looked, it appeared to be overcooked but it tasted just fine! The only thing I felt was overpriced was the carne asada taco. For $2.49 add some damn cheese or sour cream or something. It was just a scoop of carne asada that was drowned in way too much cilantro and onion, I had to remove most of it. The meat tasted fine but it needed some more flavor for the price. The other items were a really good price for the portion though! Not the greatest or the most consistent place, but not bad for a drive thru and decent for the price. read more

I have had food here several times. I have had the breakfast burritos and I tried three different ones and could tell a difference. The eggs had a really off putting texture almost like powdered eggs. They aren't terrible they just aren't great or really even good. Have also had chicken fajitas from here and the chicken was so dry. The flavor was ok but oh my god that chicken was like eating a mouthful of desert it was so dry. The ground beef was fine. But that chicken good grief Charlie Brown. Occasionally this will show up catered to my office and I will try it. Same experience. Bland and dry meat. This is just Mexican food at its mediocre best. If I could give this place a negative starts I would. This is the worst Mexican food I have EVER eaten in my life. I am pretty sure all the ingredients they use come from a can. I had the chicken enchiladas... they were soggy, wet, tasteless and the canned cheese on the top made it well nasty. The beans must be poured directly from the can to you plate. I can't imagine anyone paying for such low grade food. Go to Fuzzy's, Mazatlan or Taco Bell. For the moron who emailed me... Name calling is just childish.. Hands down, one of my very favorite spots to eat in Denton. The family that runs it is super nice and treat their customers more like friends. Plus, you get a ton of food for super cheap, but it's still totally fresh and delicious. As a vegetarian, I love all the options they have available (though, I'm pretty bad at making decisions - so it's kind of a double-edged sword in that respect). They have a drive-thru that can take some time if you're three or four cars back in line, but I think it's totally worth it. If you need a cheap, quick meal, this place is for you. It's not the best, but it's a million times better than any typical fast food "mexican" joint. Their food is good and the service is great. As a vegan, I enjoy their veggie fajitas, which are not listed on the menu but are often ordered. They make them with potatoes, onions and bell peppers, and they do not use butter. Sometimes they are a little greasy, but not too bad. I ask for corn tortillas to make these gluten free. They also have yummy guacamole tacos, but the guacamole can get a little on the salty side. I ate at MiCasita yesterday for maybe the 3rd time and I decided to finally write a review. I usually get the soft tacos but tonight, I got chicken fajita quesadillas and they were awesome. The food is seasoned very well especially the fajita meat and you can tell they use high quality meat. Service was quick, the two guys up front were friendly and catered to our needs. Guacamole tasted fresh as did the pico de gallo, which I'm pretty sure they make from scratch. Oh! and they always give you a handful of chips, complimentary, with their homemade salsa. Pretty good tex mex for a really decent price. I normally catch one of the daily specials like $1.29 tacos (breakfast or lunch/dinner ) on Tuesdays and Thursdays or the $3.99 enchilada plate on Wednesdays. I love their ground beef- I definitely wouldn't consider it lean, but it doesn't have big fatty mystery chunks like a lot of other places. Well-seasoned without being too salty. Their queso is a little different.... Colored. Prepare for bright orange "cheese sauce," which is just a few steps above the gas station nacho cheese pump matter. But I have no shame, I still love it. The best part- their chips and salsa comes free and is like CRACK! I'll tear through a whole bag without even noticing!! They also have drive-thru. You get a lot better homemade food for the same pricing as fast food (*cough* taco bell mystery meat *cough). Don't get me wrong, this place is in no way "gourmet," but it's been around in Denton forever for good reason and I'm proud to say I'm a regular. The wife and I were craving some good mexican food and we came across this place. This will be the last time we come back here... When we first arrived, it looks like your typical mexican resaturant that would have quality Mexican flavors. We ordered the menudo (which is my favorite) and the wife got an enchilada plate. She received her food first, which was quite bland and uninspiring. The salsa was ok, a little too watered down. So, about 20 min later my wife has finished her meal and I was still sitting there looking like I was only having water. I walked in and asked about my menudo and they said it would be right. 5 minutes later (about 25 min after I ordered) it comes out. I'm excited to shovel this deliciousness into my mouth... Then ti hit my tongue. It was very bland, the broth didn't have much flavor, I had to add a decent amount of salt in order to taste anything. Least to say, I wouldn't recommend their menudo. The worst part of my experience was after I ordered my beer (Negra Modelo). I ask where the limes are at, they pointed to where they were. I walked over, and to my shock, the limes are completely dried out and COVERED in fruit flies. It was absolutely disgusting. I'm surprised I didn't lose my appetite at that point and get a refund for the food I ordered. But it doesn't even do THAT very well because the food is so uninspired and lacking in all flavor. I heard people rave about the breakfast tacos, so after a few years of not eating here, I picked up some breakfast tacos (they come with chips). The tacos were okay at best, and the chips were bland, needed salt, and probably just a different tortilla recipe altogether. My husband and I decided to check this place out after I saw some positive Yelp reviews. What a mistake! This is the worst Mexican restaurant we've eaten at in Denton by far. I got the grilled chicken salad because I saw some delicious looking salads in the Yelp pictures and I usually love the way Mexican restaurants season their chicken. I'm not sure how I got such a different salad than the previous guests, but it was such a letdown. It was all cheap iceberg lettuce and had huge chunks of that super gross tasting lettuce you get sometimes. I swear those 2 giant chunks made up about 1/3 of the salad. The chicken was so bland and had zero seasoning. And the ranch was also pretty bad and had a weird aftertaste. My husband had a carnita torta, which came with some chips on the plate, but nothing to dip them in. He said the torta was just ok. I actually did like the seasoning that was on the tortilla chips, but it wasn't spread out very well. It would be caked on one chip and the next would have none. So not to be TMI, but neither of our meals settled well with us for like the next 24 hours. We will never go back. The lady at the counter who took our order acted as if she'd rather be doing anything else besides talking to us.
