To me, if the best thing that you can say about a restaurant is that it is consistently good, but never great, then something is lacking, but it is not a disaster. I've been going to La Fontana for at least five (and probably more) years, and it hardly ever disappoints. The dinner selection is generous; the bar is honest; the wines are varied and plentiful. The service is quite good, and the food is usually good. There are always interesting specials as well, If you can be there when the veal chop is a special, go for it. I won't give it five stars because it simply is not in that stratosphere, and because of its inconsistency, I can't give it four stars now. However, when I first wrote this review a few years ago, I gave it four stars. Be advised, It's a big place, so if there is a large party there when you are there, and they happen to lack decorum, well, let's just say that you will know they are there. My advice is that when you make your reservation, you ask about large groups beforehand. However, if you are ever in Nyack doing some antiquing or just enjoying the river views that are within walking distance of this place, it is worth a try. Who knows? You might even return to it at a later datel. *If you go all out, meaning appetizer through dessert (with alcohol), you can figure $50 a person easily, but who eats that way anymore? 5 starts plus!!!!! I have always wanted to go to this place! it is beautifully placed in the heart of Nyack! Called and made a reservation on a Friday night for my friends 27th birthday they were super courteous on the phone. We then went there around 8pm the host was delightful she welcomed us with a warm greeting and lead us to the table wishing my friend a happy birthday we found out it was her birthday too she made us feel like very comfortable and it felt like this place was home. the bread was so delicious,! they brought out a margarita picture for 20 bucks and my friends enjoyed it fully! then we had our food brought to us i ordered the eggplant parm i would highly recommend it!!!!!! My mouth is watering thinking about it. one girl had the lasgna she said it was the best she has ever had! and the other two meals all they could talk about was how good it was! the sauce was so fresh! Then the chef came out and sang with the waiters happy birthday to my friend and then brought an extra dessert for us to share! he was so lovely he shook all of our hands and we felt so warm and welcomed! we will totally go back again and again the hospitality there is outstanding and so nyack!!!!! read more

George is the bartender. He's been the bartender there for a long time. My wife and I go to La Fontana for his Martini's...straight up, dirty, 3 olives, Bombay Sapphire. There is not a finer Martini made in North America or Europe. Albano, the head chef, catered our wedding meal and did it to perfection. If you are going to Nyack for a visit, go to La Fontana. But don't sit in the seat at the bar all the way at the end...one guy has sat there every night for 13 years. He will get very grumpy with you if he finds you in his seat. read more

They push the drinks try to get you drunk so you don't notice how bad the food is and a total tourist trap mostly out of towers Locals avoid this place bad food and service. Having driven through this town but never visited I was pleasantly surprised! It's an attractive town with a hip vibe. We intended to dine at the Art Cafe but they were packed and we had little kids who weren't going to wait. We walked down the street and arrived here about 10:45. The owner saw us waiting and promptly opened the doors early. We were initially were seated upstairs but when I realized this was a buffet, I asked for a table downstairs. No problem. Every brunch food type is represented here, bagels and lox, salads, omelet station,carving station, muffins, breads, sausage and bacon, Eggs Benedict, tomato and mozzarella, grilled vegetables, fish dishes, pasta, and various "parm" meats... fresh fruit and dessert table.... oh, and don't forget, unlimited mimosa and bloody marys.... I have been to La Fontana many times for the Sunday brunch. The past two times were my last. The food is tasty but the service is poor because the owners have decided to squeeze as many tables as humanly possible into the space. Waiters cant keep up. Elbow to elbow with the tables around us. We absolutely love this restaurant they have outdoor seating in a nice courtyard with a fountain. The food is excellent - I'm Italian and I have to say this place has the best chicken Parm I have ever tasted! (and that includes my nonna's!) also on Sundays they have a fantastic brunch buffet with so many different options salads, pastas, chicken, eggs, waffles, meats, omelet station, dessert table all for about $20! We found the service to be slow, the water glasses were never filed, the bus boys started clearing the table before we finished eating and I had to ask them to stop. My wife and I have only been here for the brunch, but they sure do it right. It totally reasonable pricing. We have brought family and friends. It's a good idea to make reservations, especially when there is not outdoor seating, as the brunch is very popular, and it is busy for brunch. The variety in foods is just amazing, everything from eggs and bacon, to asparagus, and tomato with mozzarella, to chicken marsala. There is a rice mix that they have that my wife can never get enough of. The service is great too. Fernando is our favorite guy. It is a little loud in here, as the drinks are flowing, and the people are joyful, but we don't mind that. We look forward to bringing friends and family there in the near future, especially when there is outdoor seating available. read more

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would, but that is not an option. This place is disgusting. The women's bathroom smells and leaks. I went to use it twice during our dinner and there was water all over the floor and paper towels everywhere. No one goes in to clean it. The food is mediocre at best. I had to tell the waiter three times that my pork chop was dry and over cooked. Spots on the forks and glasses. Chipped paint on the walls. But the worst part is the service. Unless you get a dedicated server like Marco, you deal with servers that cannot be bothered. They stand in the corner and have conversations instead of asking if we need anything. Dessert had freezer burn on it and the young lady fixing our dessert was too busy flirting with the bus boy and making sure her makeup was perfect to pay attention to our order. Stay away. read more

Total fiasco and disappointment. We had a reservation for the Sunday brunch. It was Father's Day, which I know is very busy, and we were also celebrating a family birthday. We had family traveling here from hours away, some with young children. We made several calls days ahead inquiring about where we would be seated and asking other questions to make sure all would be correct. Our reservation was 1:00. It turns out there were seatings and the next seating was 1:30. No one told us either on the phone during the numerous conversations or when we arrived and checked in. We were told our table was being readied. We were told this several times. This was not truthful. We only overheard from other people about the seating times. Besides this, the restaurant was hot, not comfortable even inside. We wondered about the "cold" buffet food being left out on buffet tables to spoil in the heat of the day. Finally we left after waiting almost one full hour. We will never go back to such a poorly run restaurant. read more

We hosted my daughter's baby shower at La Fontana yesterday. We were up on the balcony and had 28 guests for the buffet. The service was very good, the food was spectacular and there was plenty of it. We were allowed in before the restaurant opened to set up our games, etc, and the staff was very much on the money with extra tables we asked for and so helpful. Any question as to where you should have a party, my vote would be for La Fontana. They were excellent. read more

I came here last night with my husband and three teenage children. We happily discovered they have a great Wednesday night special. About 17$ which included a wonderfully done salad and about 12 options for meals. I had shrimp and scallops with pasta. It was supposed to come with a pink sauce but I didn't want the heavy sauce so I changed it. I asked for garlic and oil or white wine. They also added some plum tomatoes. The seafood was very fresh and done perfectly. It was supposed to have arugula but the only green in the dish was tiny random scattered pieces. I thought maybe a spice. We also had the calamari...The outside was hot and crispy and the fish itself was very fresh. They were very accommodating. The wait staff were happy charming and attentive. However, we were expecting to have a private area for our function, but it turned out the restaurant changed that at the last minute!
