Not a great experience, I had high expectations due to some clearly payola press about the place being one of the best restaurants in Rockland County. So I booked it for my wife's birthday and was excited to take her and our two kids. This is not a family friendly place. My kids are very well mannered and yet it seemed not welcomed there. Clearly you're under a ticking clock (1.5 hr limit)and the wait staff is impatient, the menu is dense which is great because there's a lot of interesting and unique dishes. But they don't give you time to understand and decide. We had soft shell crab, was very good, fried zucchini blossoms were decent but needed salt, the meatballs were good but needed salt. Pizza was good. I had the porchetta which was good. The squid ink pasta was solid. Wine was great value at $60 a bottle for all Italian wine. We had the Chardonnay and it was the highlight of the meal. But it was hard to enjoy it with the vibe that we somehow were imposing. Honestly it was all male servers plus the owner and I think a woman's touch for hospitality would go a loooong way here to help this place be more convivial. The weirdest and off putting ambiance thing is that they were playing country music which did not vibe with the joint at all. We didn't stay for desert, and glad we didn't. read more

This was my second time to this restaurant. My family really liked their food last time so we decided to return. The seating was awful. There was no room to even breathe. We overheard the owner of the restaurant literally tell his staff to get rid of us in five minutes plus some additional choice words that I won't repeat. We are a family of 8 and we were trying to celebrate my birthday. We are not a rowdy group (no one would have heard us if we were noisy because it's so loud already) and we were just trying to have a nice meal together. I confronted the owner who denied everything. I told him that we won't be back. He displayed the most disgraceful attitude I've ever experienced in a restaurant. I do not recommend this establishment or the other restaurant Lani's that this man owns (worst food I ever had for way too much money and again no room to even breathe). This person who is the owner is a real piece of work. He will lose a whole lot of customers. Shame on you! I'm embarrassed for the owner behaving like an animal in front of my family. Never again. Just for reference, our reservation was for 6pm and we were out of the door at 7:45pm. Also. Where to begin seated at 7:30 fathers day rush pretty much over...let's start with minor things. Warm water. Asked for ice dozens of times...no bread. Asked for bread dozens of times. Ordered linguine clams and orchetta dish. I knew the second the clams landed that they were funky. Had a horrible odor. The orchetta was stuck in your teeth hard..not aldente..not cooked. Both sent back. The waiters response.."the owners just left and no one in the kitchen speaks English so would you like something else?"..we had an appetizer that was drowning in red sauce a beer and a club soda prior to the main event. I was totally blown away by their caramelized garlic, served with their excellent pizza Bianca bread. I couldn't wait to get more. Glistening and crisp. Had an amazing experience here on Saturday night. My wife and I split the muscles fra diavolo for an app. Perfectly spicy, with plenty of tender muscles. I had the Rigatoni Carbonara as my entree and it was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. Absolutely exquisite. My wife went with the soft shell crab special. I think she wound up licking the plate. Others at the table had a pizza (I stole a slice and it was delicious) and the chicken scarpariello, which he said was outstanding. Couple bottles of wine, recommended by the owner and we finished off with an epic Nutella pizza for dessert. The service was as good as the food. Clearly everyone working there from Vittorio the owner, the chef and kitchen crew, to the serving staff take great pride in what they do. If you haven't been....just go. So went to check out this restaurant with 2 friends last night. We had 6:30 reservations. The first thing that was said to us when we walked in is "sorry we have no tables but we can sit you at the bar" we said we have reservations and she said ok give me one second. Then heard the owner tell her to "just give us a bar table" There was one table available and she said she couldn't give it to us. There was zero concern from owner very aloof. We can't speak to the food because we decided to leave if that was our first introduction to a new spot. This is my second experience with her and she disrespected our entire party for no reason. Pushed a different one ahead of us that arrived after us when we had a reservation. I was forced to check in with her and her timing she said was a few minutes for our table what happened was 30 minutes with no niceties or updates... now remember we were on time for our res and she took a party ahead of us that arrived after). We ordered the $80 tomahawk steak and barely got any meat. The portion was tiny for what it cost. Nothing like a steakhouse portion. The owner was nasty and the hostess said he makes her do his dirty work. If this is how you treat your customers, you will never last in this business. I don't recommend this establishment. Contrary to other reviews, I love the food here. As a local though, I wanted to walk down the road for a glass of wine and was promoted buying a bottle, for myself, at lunch time! If I wanted a glass, it was whatever red they had for the day and it was $20 for one glass, regardless of the wine it was. They do this to promote you buying the bottle. The pizza was runny and tasteless and the fried zucchini blossoms (one of my absolute favorites) were over-fried in a way-too-thick batter. OMG....the ambiance of an old Italian bistro, fantastic food, and friendly service. Fresh thinly sliced prosciutto, different cheeses, and the best fried calamari I've ever tasted led off our night. ( That was after a great refreshing Espresso Martini cocktail ). My wife then enjoyed a perfectly prepared Branzino w/ broccoli rabe, while I thoroughly enjoyed a 40 day aged NY strip done to perfection. Victor (owner/chef) helped us pair all this with a perfect bottle of wine. For dessert, we finished with a Cannoli , Sfogliatella, and espresso fortified with black Sabuca.
