We hosted a small shower here and I have no major complaints. The food was pretty good and they didn't rush us out which was nice. They also cleared an area outside for us to open gifts, which was helpful given the space. The restaurant wasn't busy so that was helpful. The one small gripe was the server brought out just a few coffee cups and we had to ask him three times to bring out to the rest of the tables. The space was nice. I have passed by this restaurant so many times and finally got a chance to dine here. This is a very formal restaurant: white table clothes and white napkins. The upstairs can be rented for events. Started off with cocktails. I had the watermelon martini. Because the watermelon was freshly pureed, I had about three glasses of martini in the shaker. This was perfect for a hot day. Mango martini was also devine: hits the spot. The beet salad with goat was very refreshing. Thin slices of beets and a generous portion of goat cheese. For entree we had the special: penne with dried tomatoes, broccoli and shrimp in garlic sauce. Shrimp was not over cooked and pasta was al dente. Simple and fresh. We also had the chicken with sausage and roasted peppers in lemon sauce. This dish is usually served with potatoes and vegetables or pasta. I had mine with the vegetables and roasted asparagus. Great dish. The rib eye bone in was very juicy eventhough it was medium well. This was served with French fries. The eggplant was great too. To end the night we had the creme brulee and gelato. Perfect ending to a great feast. Service was great. Waiters paid great attention to us eventhough we were not their patrons. Heard their Sunday brunch is a great event. Great family neighborhood Italian spot! Do not know why this place doesn't have more stars. The drinks are excellent and might I say big. They do the trick ordered one martini and pretty much got two. And delicious too. The food is above average and the portions are huge! So very sad to be writing this because la Fontana's has long been one of my favorite restaurants. Went there last night ..the bread that always warm and delicious was cold and stale ... asked for the avacado and goat salad. Got an avacado and crab meat salad. When I asked the waiter about it he said. ...I'll bring you the goat cheese.... a half an hour before entrees came. Not great at all... they have also increased their prices. All in all not they way it once was. I understand with soaring food prices - delivery issues etc times are difficult for restaurant owners but several people I know have also noticed The change in this restaurant . my wife booked a reservation for lunch based on the lunch menu posted on line. this was for three couples on a wednesday afternoon. when we arrived,we were surprised that there was no lunch menu and prices were based on the regular high priced dinner menu. it was no surprise that the restaurant was empty. we should have walked out. but since this was a birthday luncheon, we bit the bullet and foolishly stayed. if i was by myself, i would have been out the door. i hope la fortana wakes up and brings back the lunch menu. otherwise, it deserves to be empty at lunch time. elliot m. read more

After making a reservation, and confirming 3 days before Father's Day that my party of 5 included a wheelchair, this place was ill-prepared, and we waited 30 minutes in the rain, only to be given a table for 4.   You can imagine the struggle with a wheelchair.  Disgusting treatment.  After struggling to get up out of the chairs because it was such a tight fit,  we finally made it to the food, of which,  the chafing dishes were only half full. Meaning,   for every 6,  there were 5 that were Empty! The prime rib that was supposed to be ready in 5 minutes finally came out after 25 minutes.  This MEAT was fatty, but perfect for those that wanted Raw. After 3 requests to speak to a manager, they finally moved our table to one without water or napkins. Requests to fill chafing dishes, were just as slow, and many things were never replenished during our seating. When I got the bill, I was very surprised to find that they did nothing to make amends.  In fact, the owner had the audacity to tell my father he saw him take 2 plates at a time, disregarding the fact that we just complained we couldnt get the wheelchair over to the buffet so that mom could make her own plate!  As we were leaving,  the manager made it a point to let us know the chafing dishes were now full.  This was a very expensive lesson... stay away, unless you are a Masochist.  There is much better service and food, and this owner,  who stayed behind the cash register and did nothing to assist the chaos happening in his restaurant, should not be rewarded read more

Delicious food- the shrimp scampi was delicious very fresh shrimps. The baked clams were also yummy.

We had a great meal here! I had the penne alla vodka and asked for it low salt- and they did it! It still tasted great. We also enjoyed our pear gorgonzola salad; it was perfectly sized. My dinner companion had salmon and said it was excellent. Our server was very nice and prompt. Overall, we had a great experience! read more

The service was horrible, sat down... had to flag down a waiter (lucky we got bread.) we put in our drinks- they came 45 minutes later, one appetizer came out, then the other came out 20 minutes later. We finished our drinks before dinner- tried to ask a bus boy for drinks- he just walked away from us and threw his hands up. We just gave up on our main courses and canceled our dinner. For one round of drinks and two appetizers came out to $90.00 this place is a neighborhood joke and needs to get their act together , the table before us walked out and we were iffy, we gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, we walked out shortly after they did. Very nice atmosphere and honest service. They sell off menu items which adds a nice touch. My wife had a really good fettuccine Alfredo (off menu). I had the octopus as a starter (off menu). It was very good but in all honesty for $18 it was half the size of the octopus served down the street at the Greekish. The crab was a special at $35, the sauce was exceptional but the crab itself was small for the money. Bottom line : Great atmosphere, service and food - just not real big on portions. read more

Ended up at La Fontana last night, following Nyack Halloween parade. We've been there several times over the years and we hosted a birthday party for my father in-law years back upstairs. Our party of 7 (4 adults and 3 kids) meal overall was meh....not bad but nothing special. Veal parm was drowning in very plain red sauce. Calamari was soggy and salty. My wife's roast chicken was on the dry side. Drinks were crappy pours. In a pinch, I'd go back but not anytime soon. read more

I hate to rate local restaurants poorly. I really want to support my community and local businesses but I really can't with this one. I've been to this place a few times and it was mediocre at best. I never chose the restaurant-it chose me! Friends wanted to meet there so I went along. I've never thought it was a quality place and tonight just sunk it really low. The one positive aspect I need to say about this place is that it is a pretty space. The acoustics are lousy but you don't come here if you want a romantic dinner. This place lacks experienced waitstaff. The one experienced waiter also doubles as the bartender. The wait time was over an hour to get our food. No bread was ever brought to the table and my husbands drink never arrived. The food was mediocre at best and expensive for the quality. I paid $28.95 for steamed shrimp (3 jumbo shrimp) and scallops (2 large scallops) over a bed of spinach. I asked for it on the side. The service is terrible and we were ignored most of the night. There are alot of waiters in the place but no one managing them. We couldn't get our water refilled. After tonight's meal we decided we would not come here again. I'm completely disappointed in how my affair was handled. I was lied to three times by the manager. He was rude and completely disregarded the policy of social distance during the most awful time. I put a deposit down for an event and was told 3 different stories. Along with that my event would be in a private area upstairs. Then i was told my event would not be private and he would have to seat people in my area. How and why anyone would do that is beyond me. The area upstairs is not big and between my party and lack of space there would absolutely be no way to maintain a safe and social distance. find someone else to run the store parties bc clearly half of these reviews are complaining about the brunch and management. read more

I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Fontana. My cousin (a lifetime resident of Nyack) recommended this establishment. I'm from out of state and was hosting a luncheon/dinner for after my mom's funeral, (not a happy occasion). The manager, George couldn't have been more accommodating. I spoke to George the day before and told him that I really didn't know how many people would be attending. He said not to worry, he would take care of everything, and he did. When we arrived several tables were set up with linen table cloths and napkins. The ambiance was delightful and only superseded by the aromas in the air. As my guests arrived they were escorted to the tables by the staff that were impeccably dressed. Everyone ordered off the menu from drinks to dessert and I was told that every meal was delicious. I couldn't have asked for or planned for a better experience. I will be back and Kudos to La Fontana, manager George and the staff. Thank you again for such a pleasant experience. Marie read more

Went here last Sunday for brunch with a group of friends for the 11am seating and let me just say this brunch was great for $21.95! The food was fresh and hot. There were so many items to choose from including eggs, bacon, pancakes, salads, pasta, chicken, beef and a large display of deserts. I would have given 5 stars but the service was not good which I can't understand. It's not like the waiters need to serve you food or take your order. They were MIA almost the entire time. I had to flag them down 2x to refill the coffee and water. Oh and unlimited bloody Mary's and mimosas are included but they must limit that by not coming around and asking if you wanted more. Because we were a larger party they did include the tip on the bill or else we would have not tipped like we had to. I would love to come back with my family just hope the next time the food and service are on point. read more

We have been coming to La Fontana for decades celebrating New Years, Christmas, Halloween and other events. Our favorite past time was to view the Nyack Halloween parade from the outdoor patio and have a drink. Last night we were terribly disappointed in the way we were treated. We were given two menus: the standard menu with pasta, chicken, veal etc in a vinyl sheath and another menu in a leather bound folder which had other dishes including paella and Zuppa di Pesce each for around $38.95 which we each ordered. We were shocked when we got the bill because we were charged $58.95 for each of these ordered dishes. By the way, these plates were not that great with 2 scallops, 2 shrimps and some empty mussel shells over rice (Paella) and pasta ( Zuppa di Pesce). No way were these $59 plates. When I brought this up with the waiter and then the manager they said this was the price and that there was no leather bound menu only the one in vinyl. This could have been settled had the manager intervened but he did not. What really upsets me is their denial that a second menu even existed. They claimed that the leather bound folder was the wine menu which may be true but there was definitely another one with food items listed in the same leather bound folder. How would we have known that these dishes were even an option had it not been documented in some form ? I hope the owner is reading this review. He has lost long standing and loyal patrons. read more

Excellent buffet Brunch! We went there for Father's Day 2022 and was immediately seated, a party of five. There are so many things to choose from from fresh pear and mango salad with gorgonzola or avocado and tomato or Caesar - too many options to mention. Seven or eight amazing desserts; apx 102l trays of hot food from vodka pasta, tortellini alfredo, meatballs l, fried chicken, Salmon l,mussels l, shrimp and a carving station with lamb and roast beef. But they also had eggs benedict with runny eggs and Hollandaise sauce that you pour on yourself, pancakes, sausage, bacon, bagels, lox. Fresh vegetables, including asparagus, mushrooms and a medley. Delicious, abundant amounts of food with unlimited mimosas, bellinis or bloody Marys, coffee and tea all for $50 a person. The place was neat and clean and organized freshly and quickly replenished. We haven't been back since the pandemic and I'm so glad to see everything is in tip top order with great service! They offer everybody gloves if they want to use them plenty of hand sanitizer or a napkin to spoon out your food. read more

We just dined here and the service was questionable. Food just ok. One of the dinners had a piece of sharp plastic and the waiter was defensive and said "these things happen." Really?! Tonight I walked through a gorgeous town. Very quiet. And this beautiful place lit up right on the corner. Wanted to go outside and have dinner on the patio, but it seemed they had it closed. The food selection is excellent! I usually always have the same entree when I go to Italian restaurants. But not this place. They had many specials that day. I chose the Summer Salad!!! It is a must if you go here! The waiters were very nice. And I did see the chef come out and talk to the staff. He seemed very friendly. I would definitely recommend trying this place out! Ordered the veal with capers and artichokes but was served some type of veal with a cheese and sliced meat. I could not even cut the veal it was very overcooked. Pasta that was served with the dish was awful. Waiter told us the cook was new which is no excuse for over cooked and bland food. Received the bill and my entree was on the bill. I told the waiter I wanted it taken off because I'm not paying for food I could not eat. He made a face but took it off the bill. My husband's food was no better. Okay so for years my BFF has be raging about this place, it's the best brunch ever and how we have to go and last Sunday I had my chance. We didn't make a reservation so we were told we would have to sit upstairs which Meant we would have to walk up and down a flight of stairs to access the all you can eat buffet . Not great since since my mother is 63 years old with back issues and a bad knee. My friend asked if we would have a table on the ground floor and we were accommodated but sat next to a table of loud and I mean very loud college brats. The servers were very busy but the restaurant wasn't that full, so there was no water placed on our table and we had to flag down people for mimosas. The buffet had a lot to choose from but the salads were soggy or dry and bland at best. Extra toppings like walnuts, cheese and olives are just not that special and I expected more from an Italian restaurant. The cocktail shrimp were not peeled so we had to clean our own shrimp before dipping into cocktail sauce.. Not attractive. I didn't plan on eating eggs on toast or challah bread French toast so I waited on a line for prime rib. The chef there was a bit more than overwhelmed with making omelets and at one point the frying pans were smoking from his flame being too high. My only thought was to open a window but alas I will need to settle for smelling like a barbecue. Now it was my turn for the prime rib which looked rare, but the chef put pre sliced cold meat on my plate. I was so tired from waiting I didn't care, but I should have asked for a fresh piece, since the texture of over cooked meat is similar to eating dry carpet. We finally got mimosas which were average and then got up for dessert. They have a nice selection of cakes and fresh fruit, but watch out for the usual shenanigans of children running past you and making a mess while they get their own dessert. The bathroom was being mopped at one point and I was told pretty matter of factly that I needed to wait. No one who works here has a pleasant personality or even smiles for that matter, some "family" atmosphere for sure. And finally... My coffee was poured from a carafe and was stone cold! This should be a felony in my book! My bill was $47 for two without including tip. Sorry but I would have gotten better service and food at Sizzler. read more

Came here with the family for Sunday brunch and was pleasantly surprised. For $20 a person, it's all you can eat brunch with drinks. (All you can drink mimosas!) Food was alright -- they have more "lunch" offerings than breakfast, but there's still eggs, bread, coffee, the usual breakfast fare. They had one pasta with pink sauce (I think it was penne alla vodka) that I ate almost 2 full plates of -- delicious! Skip the meh beef brisket and go for the chicken breasts that are juicier and actually have a sauce. As for desserts, tiramisu is pretty much a safe bet in any decent Italian restaurant and I was not disappointed. Basic cheesecake and pies were alright too, if you like those desserts. Overall, great experience. Service is snappy and attentive -- my mimosa glass was never close to empty and, as soon as I stood up to get another plate of food, a waiter would ninja out of nowhere to whisk away my finished plates. My father also had a little mishap where he accidentally broke one of the glasses -- two waiters came and cleaned the mess up in about 15 seconds flat. read more

I have been to a lot of restaurants in Rockland but this restaurant really has some of the worst food I've had in a really long time. I have been here twice and the first time it was just OKAY. I ordered the chicken Parmesan which was probably the worst chicken Parmesan that I have had. We decided to give it another try a year later. I thought that the best thing about the restaurant was the wine and bread. Do not get the rigatoni Albanese or spaghetti and meatballs. Meatballs and chicken were over cooked and did not taste so good. The worst thing was the cheesecake. Do not order it from here. It was by far the worst cheesecake I have ever had. It looked old and very yellow. The ones you buy at the supermarket are better. Would not recommend eating here. read more

My wife and I were looking for a new place to dine that has outdoor seating. This popped up on Yelp as a four star so we decided to give it a shot. On a Saturday night at 7:45pm we walked in and were seated out on the patio immediately. As we passed through the main restaurant we noticed it was extremely warm. There's no way I could have sat down for dinner inside. A bread basket and two pieces of bruschetta were placed on the table. This was by far the best bruschetta I had even had. We ordered drinks, salads and appetizers. The salads and appetizers were both large enough to be mains. We had a Pear salad, eggplant rollatini, asparagus with portabella mushrooms and an avocado salad. All of these were among the best we've ever had. If I stopped my review here, this would have been 5 stars. As we moved on to mains they dropped a star. They were out of manicotti and gnocchi. These are the two things I was most interested in having. Instead I had lasagna, tortellini in pesto and rigatoni. I didn't try the tortellini (not a fan of pesto) the rigatoni was fair and the lasagna tasted reheated. My wife had a different tortellini dish (with peas and prosciutto). She loved it. We were to full to stay for coffee and dessert. With all that food (leftovers to take home) and a few drinks the bill was fair. The service was good. Our waiter couldn't have been more helpful but our water glasses were never refilled. Plates were removed in a timely manner. We'll be back again to try some other dishes. We may forgo the salad or an appetizer though. read more
