To start off with a positive, the service was good. The server was attentive and checked back several times. The food itself, not so much. Rice was dry and tasteless. Awful experience here this morning. Husband bit into taco and a bug dropped to the table. There was a black bug somewhere inside his taco. Needless to say, I couldn't stomach to eat my food. We got up and left. The manager said the bug must have fine from the outside . No it was in the food. We sat there for 29 minutes waiting for our food and no signs of a bug. Gross!!! read more

I'm truly baffled by this place. I friend and I ordered a bunch of alacart things for delivery to share. The burrito ranchero & the chimichanga we're excellent! However the taco and the cheese enchilada were bland and tasteless (which is odd since the ranchero sauce was the enchilada sauce should've been the same.) The chips and the beans with cheese & onions were also VERY good, but the salsa tastes like ketchup. I had to use pace picante instead! Seriously. I've never been to a restaurant before where 1/2 the items were great & the other 1/2 were the worst I've ever had. So I guess the moral of this story is be careful what you order (and bring your own salsa)! Lol read more

That was vile. It ended up in the trash. Soupy refried beans. Flavorless rice, tacos and enchiladas. The "crunchy tacos" where in the same container as the beans, so the shells ended up soggy and mushy, falling to pieces when picked up. read more

Good food, fast service. Chips and salsa are already on the table as you sit down. Good lunch deals and a decent amount of food - not big enough you have to take some home (not convenient when you're going back to the office and don't want to smell like rice and bean the rest of the afternoon) but big enough to satisfy your noonish appetite! Booths are comfy and tall so they're pretty private, if you're looking for a peaceful place to have a quick lunch at. It's not the blow-my-mind amazing kind of restaurant/food but it did it for me when I craved Mexican food at lunch and didn't want to eat at Taco Bell/Taco Time! On a negative note, I've tried better pico de gallo salsa - I like it more limey than theirs but for the price and the fast service I can't complain! read more

Beware Lunch Lady taco shells are used on certain tacos. You know the kind that taco bell uses, ya those ones. If you order something to go and get it smothered be prepared to search for your food underneath the mess that is "Smothered" I give this 3 stars because it is Utah and I expect below average Mexican food. I had a craving to quench. My first impressions were better than most. A good atmosphere with high energy. It was a Saturday so a wait was expected. Chips, salsa, and my drink were produced as soon as I sat down. The service was friendly and fast. And I've got absolutely no complaints with presentation. The food however leaves much to be desired. I ordered the large combination with cheese. My food was served a little on the cool side and was smothered beyond recognition. I wouldn't recommend this meal to anyone. I was craving a burrito. Maybe i have a soft spot for them because I've been going my whole life. I always get the smothered burrito for $5 bucks and that's plenty of food. Stars are irrelevant. I came through the drive thru around 9pm on 4/2/19 and was given absolutely rancid "to go" salsa with my meal. I've never had an issue therefore don't inspect my salsa before eating, but this was enough to make me incredibly sick throughout the night...and trust me chile verde isnt the same the second time around. We were sat right away given water with chips and salsa, we were then completely ignored, was not busy maybe 5 tables and most of them already had their meals. I didn't want this to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in Utah. But it is. It's beautifully predictable and exactly what you would expect from a decent restaurant. Sometimes you just want to go to eat food that you don't have to across your fingers is going to be good. The quality is always the same and I can totally appreciate that. I particularly like ordering an a la carte pork burrito smothered with cheese and onions. My family agreed that burrito is especially good when we went 2 weeks ago. This place is good for when you're feeling lazy. The food isn't spectacular, but ok for when you don't want to travel very far. I got the chimichanga in the drive through. It came with the rice and beans. Those were ok, not much flavor, but standard rice and beans. The chimicanga came smothered in chili verde, which wasn't impressive. It was pretty basic with the chili and verde components. The chimichanga wasn't particularly flavorful, and was small in comparison to the rest. I had a standard side of the rice and beans, but the chimichange was only a little large than a pack of ramen noodles (size comparison). the ground beef inside was bland as well, but well done. Also, don't get the horchata, it has cinnamon oil, which tastes kind of oily (it's oil) in your mouth. You can tell the imitation instead of the real cinnamon. Overall, a bland place that offers food for when you're really not feeling like going anywhere, or for people who don't like spice or flavor in their foods. Plus side is the drive through. read more

La Frontera used to be one of the go-to Mexican restaurants in SLC. In fact, I still hear people saying this is one of the best here. Meh, I don't get it. I mean, I used to love this kind of americanized mexican stuff when I was a kid. But, my palate has become more sophisticated as I aged, and I truly believe SLC's has too. The times have changed... The food wasn't bad. But it's just that extremely greasy, cheesy, goopy mess you'd expect to find at any other americanized mexican place. Our whole table just felt like we had a gut bomb-giant burrito you'd get at 7-eleven afterwards. I actually felt kind of bad for the mexicans working there. Because they all seemed to have that look on their faces as if they were ashamed of the extreme compromises they'd taken to serve food to dumb gringos. The mexicans at other authentic mexican restaurants and the "Hip", slightly americanized, food-network-famous mexican restaurants never have that look of defeat on their faces. It was kind of sad. Like I said, the food wasn't bad. It was tasty. Cheese and grease do taste good. And I used to love this stuff as a kid, so it's kind of got that comfort food feel to it. But comfort while eating... I decided to try la frontera for lunch today. I went through the drive thru and ordered 2 cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. The board at the drive thru said $8.50, but I was charged $12.15. I didn't get an itemized receipt and I wasn't offered one. The cheese in the enchiladas was barely melted and overall the flavor was poor. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
