They had outdoor seating under umbrellas and balcony and indoor seating as well. We sat on the balcony where we were able to enjoy our meal as we listened to the peaceful music they had playing in the background. This is not a super fancy high priced place. The setting is casual, and their prices were very reasonable. My fiance ordered the Tiapia with mushroom sauce, which came with a Patee dish and coffee. I ordered my normal steak and fries special that came with a creamed carrot soup and coffee. Our plan was to order both dishes and share them so we can get an idea of how each tasted. We were not disappoionted. Our meals tasted great! That is no exageration. Our waitress was also exceptional, which made the experience all that much better. She was friendly, helpful, and attentive. If my fiance and I ever return to Quebec City, we would not hesitate to go back there again.

My main dish was a Swiss rösti topped by whipped potato and onions and a nice garden salad. I was still thinking of the dish a few days later. The whole was surrounded by smoked salmon. I wasn't too hungry so I ordered an app for my entree, the bruschetta. It came loaded with seasoned tomato pieces. Hubby ordered the pasta with clams in a spicy sauce. There was a misunderstanding with his meal. When hubby asked questions about the carbonara, our server thought he ordered the carbonara when he actually decided on the pasta with clams. When the wrong meal was brought over, our server escalated to his manager who then offered to exchange his meal. They kept apologizing for the mixup but honestly, they already handled it well by replacing it without issues. The pasta dish was so good! I scooped the extra sauce with my crostini and really enjoyed it. The clams were meaty and fresh too. Daughter ordered the pasta with meat sauce- also very good. This small restaurant has tables pretty close together and is part of a hotel. If anything needs to be improved, it's the ventilation. Afterwards, our clothes had heavy food scents!

We had a mishap where they topped off our sparkling water with tap, and it took a really long time to get our replacement sparkling water. We got the burrata and Caesar salad to start. Caesar salad was perfect! I got the carbonara as my meal, light on the bacon and it was yummy! My mom got the seafood linguini and enjoyed and a friend got the stuffed mannacoti and also enjoyed! Everyone was full as portions were nice!

I sat at the bar having a drink, waiting nearly an hour for my meal to be ready to go! Finally the bartender checked on it and it was set aside somewhere! Ugh, not a good experience. Got home to cold meal, soggy salad with stale croutons. The dish was disappointing in flavor and the over-processed beef stuffing was mushy. It's funny they mention crispy spinach as it's not a noticeable feature lost in the gravy. Interior restaurant ambience is cool.

We arrive, were seated. We were given French menus even though we clearly were speaking English and the waiter also speaking English to us. We had to call him back over to ask for an English menu. We ordered appetizers: calamari which I thought would be a safe bet since it's supposed to be an Italian restaurant, and some fried zucchini things. He brought the apps.. just the app dishes, we had to call him back over to ask for cutlery and side plates. The calamari was overcooked, crunchy rubber (Not sure about the zucchini thing, I would have to refresh my memory on the actual menu details, but I am pretty sure it doesn't say it supposed to be soggy round lumps.. ) I kept my mouth shut and didn't complain which is absolutely unusual for me. We ordered our mains, I ordered a salad and my son ordered veal. After a while the waiter came and asked if that would be all, ready with charger in hand. I said um, we have not yet received our mains. He was very confused. He went away and after quite a while we finally received the mains..I suspect the order did not get to the kitchen. The cheese in my salad was soft and plopped. The salad itself was somewhat edible but limp and not enjoyable. The only thing fine was my son's veal..however I am not sure if he just said that to make me feel better since I was so disappointed in the rest of the meal . I travelled very far to see him, more than an hour past Toronto, costing me $800 on the train, during some very difficult personal issues I very much needed this trip and his support. He knows how important this visit was for me since I see him only a few times a year. Anyway we ate, I left half of my main because it was soggy..and I paid, I spent $102. Again the only reason I let it slide is because this particular date with my son meant so much to me and I didn't want to sour it complaining . (Even he was surprised that I didn't complain because I never let these things slide, in his younger days he worked in a kitchen pub and he knows what happens on a busy day back there so he always cringes when I complain. ) He admitted I would have been totally justified wth the $15 calamari at the very least. I will be posting this review on all sites I can find, possibly Management can issue me some kind of gift card I can give to my son to put towards a future visit. If that is done I promise to update this and all reviews accordingly that the Management ensures customer service is followed up on. I will be watching for a reply to a review site and I can be reached at 1tla65@gmail.com Edit: 1. I changed email address and 2. Management has contacted me via email and I will be talking to him soon.

As we were about to leave, he suddenly stopped us and said we could take a table after all. Even though there were plenty of empty tables, he seated us in a corner right by the emergency exit we were literally facing the exit the entire time while eating. What made it more confusing was that most of the other tables stayed empty the whole time we were there. The whole experience just felt off and a bit uncomfortable. I'm not sure why we were first told we couldn't be seated, only to be placed in such an awkward spot when there were clearly better options available. The other staff members we interacted with were friendly, but this initial interaction and seating decision were disappointing. We arrived on time and waited maybe 5 minutes before being seated. All the outdoor tables were full so the two of us sat at a low 4-top inside not far from the kitchen. Water was brought right away. Our server then took our drink, appetizer and entree orders. We each had a pint of Stella beer on draft and we shared an order of their Focaccia bread, served with butter and a dish of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The beer was cold and because it was draft, not from a green bottle, no skunk smell or taste :) The Focaccia bread isn't what we make in the States, but it was find. More of a soft, yet dense bread, topped with herbs. For $3 CAN, it was a deal. Later on, the Casesar salad was brought out. It was a generous portion and was plenty for the two of us to split. The dressing was tasty as was the shaved Parmesan cheese and the house made croutons. Later, our Cannelloni entree came. It was in an oval dish that had been baked. The full order came with 2 Cannellonis. Here again, plenty for two people to share. It was stuffed with a meat and cheese mixture. We were too full to be tempted by their dessert menu. Our friends arrive from the US in a couple of days, so we've made another reservation here at Portofino for the four of us. The only downside to Portofino was that it is popular and busy, so it was a bit loud inside.
