manicotti (foreground)
 beef cheeks (background)
Kim S.

We had very early dinner reservations, so were the first customers but it's such a popular establishment that it filled up quickly. The decor is modern with two very large round chandeliers. Service was great, it was a little difficult to ascertain who our server was because different staff members stopped by our table to deliver our food, fill our waters, or check on our meals. We shared the burrata appetizer, I got the manicotti, and my husband got the beef cheeks--all were delicious and I would order again.

Braised beef cheek and gnocchi. Highly recommend this dish, tender flavorful

We had dinner last night. Place filled up quickly a lively atmosphere. Staff were very efficiently managing the tables. The meals were generous and delicious. Overall a fun evening with innovative food and solid wine selection.

Matto was hands-down the best Italian food I've ever had and I don't say that lightly. It was also the best meal we had during our entire Quebec City trip. We were staying at the hotel and noticed this spot was buzzing with people as we walked out one evening. After wandering the city in search of dinner, we decided to come back, even though it was a random Tuesday and still packed. When we asked for a table, they told us to come back in about 1.5 hours since we didn't have a reservation but by some stroke of luck, a table opened up and they were able to seat us. We were so grateful they did. Everything about the experience was wonderful. The food was perfectly timed and absolutely delicious. The service was warm, attentive, and made the meal feel even more special. My family still talks about how much we enjoyed both the food and the people. I can't recommend this place enough. If you're planning a dinner in Quebec City, do yourself a favor and make a reservation here.

Seafood risotto and truffle pasta

The truffle pasta was the star of the show. Definitely get that. The waiter was nice and was a little sassy but like in a funny way, he def was entertaining. The restaurant was modern vibes and it was small so the service was good because of that.

Mushroom risotto, amazing!

So fortunate that this restaurant is located where we stayed ...Hotel 71. Ironically, our Tuesday arrival coincided with many restaurants being closed. Thankfully, Matto was open and we enjoyed it so much that we also dined there Wednesday night too. Two of the best meals, ambience, and accompanying service of our visit ! Overall, we devoured the egg plant parmesan appetizer, Cesear salad, spaghetti pomodoro, mushroom risotto. Wine list included many price points that included unique selections. We chose a bottle and brought the remainder to our room . Service was very professional, chatty, and friendly, hip vibe in a cool vibrant setting. Side note....we loved this Lower Town location away from the touristy Upper Town chaos. St. Roch only $10 taxi ride away. Great hotel experience overall!

Spaghetti Carbonara

Wonderful Italian restaurant in lower Quebec. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic! Danny answered all questions and made excellent suggestions. The decor was classic modern and the atmosphere was bustling.

Pretty close to top of my Italian list. Parm was great. Carbonara also was great. Good wine selection and good vibes. Don't miss it.

As we were about to leave, he suddenly stopped us and said we could take a table after all. Even though there were plenty of empty tables, he seated us in a corner right by the emergency exit we were literally facing the exit the entire time while eating. What made it more confusing was that most of the other tables stayed empty the whole time we were there. The whole experience just felt off and a bit uncomfortable. I'm not sure why we were first told we couldn't be seated, only to be placed in such an awkward spot when there were clearly better options available. The other staff members we interacted with were friendly, but this initial interaction and seating decision were disappointing. I hope they can be more consistent with how they treat guests. 엵이 갉짉 맑셀엵 읹죵챠볅 핢. 비상구 볽멹섨 밟멁욺 갥굯섟잙릾 안낽핢.

We were seated on the patio and our very sweet server was right out to take our drink order. Since we are eating Poutine all over Canada in search of our favorite. We so enjoyed sitting on the patio, it was a beautiful day, we were people watching and enjoying the umbrellas place up the alley. Our poutine was delivered to the table and I can honestly say it was our favorite. The fries were crunch and creamy on the inside. The gravy was rich and had a deep flavor and the cheese curds had lightly melted. Every bite was perfect. The eatery and bar are tucked into a stone house that dates back to 1668, if only the walls could talk. The bar and restaurant feature local Quebec cuisine and is a gem. The service was excellent as was the atmosphere.

Then we shared an original poutine and it also was delicious- best I had on our trip thus far! I ordered mussels for my meal and a steaming pot arrived and they were yummy. Ambiance and service were great. They accommodated our awful French attempts. Drinks were large. Honestly, I feel lucky to have dined here. Everything was wonderful!

We arrived on time and waited maybe 5 minutes before being seated. All the outdoor tables were full so the two of us sat at a low 4-top inside not far from the kitchen. Water was brought right away. Our server then took our drink, appetizer and entree orders. We each had a pint of Stella beer on draft and we shared an order of their Focaccia bread, served with butter and a dish of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The beer was cold and because it was draft, not from a green bottle, no skunk smell or taste :) The Focaccia bread isn't what we make in the States, but it was find. More of a soft, yet dense bread, topped with herbs. For $3 CAN, it was a deal. Later on, the Casesar salad was brought out. It was a generous portion and was plenty for the two of us to split. The dressing was tasty as was the shaved Parmesan cheese and the house made croutons. Later, our Cannelloni entree came. It was in an oval dish that had been baked. The full order came with 2 Cannellonis. Here again, plenty for two people to share. It was stuffed with a meat and cheese mixture. We were too full to be tempted by their dessert menu. Our friends arrive from the US in a couple of days, so we've made another reservation here at Portofino for the four of us. The only downside to Portofino was that it is popular and busy, so it was a bit loud inside.
