I do recall the experience as forgettable from the first time I went. This time I got the chile verde. I got it as a burrito. It's possible that I walked away before she could ask how I liked it. The burrito was wet but I think I might have preferred it the other way. Lots of tasty chunks of meat. Not sure how I'd order as a regular burrito though next time. My wife got the fish tacos. They were really juicy and not necessarily in a good way. The fish ended up with almost a ground meat texture. It tasted fine but the mouth feel was way off. Prices are on par with similar places. The have a nice little covered area too.

I liked the pastor better because I thought the carnitas was a bit overcooked (it had good flavor but was dry). The veggie tacos were given a thumbs up from my wife. The red hot sauce has a kick, so go easy if you're heat sensitive. The green was cooler, but I liked the flavor of the red better. The service was friendly and quick. We took our tacos to a little park just a couple blocks south and ate with a wonderful view of the Columbia and lots of sailboarders. I'll go back again next time I'm passing through Stevenson!

It's about 10 minutes or so from downtown Hood River, an easy drive on 35 and then onto 282 W, into a little main drag with a gas station and a few shops and hole-in-the-wall eateries. Michoacan is only open til 8, so get here in time. A single TV showed Mexican soccer, and the tables are basic. AC worked just fine, and the "sports bar" theme is mainly in some wall posters along with a hanging set of boxing gloves and some soccer and basketballs. The food is why you come though. For $2.50, you'll get a brightly flavored perfect guacamole, but a few bright red tomato bits and the herby bite of cilantro. The waitress told me that my entree came with guacamole, but I wanted more. I'd expected the carnitas entree to just have a spoonful,but it was a generous portion too. The chips were thick, not too salty, with enough heft to hold the thick warm bean dip that is complimentary. Inside the kitchen, visible from the dining room, you can see the women cooking. There's no celebrity chef here, no big presence in the kitchen. Just dark haired women chopping and stirring and making authentic food, and perhaps going home later to do laundry and care for family, all in the shadow of Mt Hood. Carnitas platter was visually satisfying - dark meat with a hint of charred crust, bright green guacamole and limes, a few orange pickled carrots, finely diced cilantro and onion. I often bypass the sticky rice at Tex-Mex joints, but here the grains were flaky and you could get the sweetness of tomato. As a solo diner I didn't have a chance to try the array of $2 tacos this time, but the tortillas that came with the carnitas were fresh and tasty, so that's my next visit! No mixed drinks - a selection of bottled beers (Negra Modelo, Corona, Victoria, Pacifico) which will come with no glass. The "glassware" is plastic, so you might prefer drinking out of the bottle anyway! Glad I came here - friendly staff too. Service was a bit slow - I had to ask for the bill - but fine.

The ambiance is pretty typical for a hole in the wall taqueria. Customer service was great. My food took just long enough to come out to know that it was fresh. For $13, the portion was pretty big. The nachos were topped with carne asada, beans, cheese, cabbage slaw, Pico de Gallo, crema, avocado, and green sauce added by me. The carne asada was some of the best I've found around here so far. Actual little pieces of chopped skirt steak, not ground beef (like some other places). The rest of the toppings were all legit. I loved that the amount of toppings was perfect for each chip to be smothered. I loved the flavor of the cabbage slaw. I'm not normally a big fan of cabbage, and I don't think I've ever had slaw on nachos before, but this was delicious. The crema, Pico de Gallo, and avocado were all perfect. My only issue was that some of the cabbage slaw and avocado kind of tasted like fish, as if someone had plated fish just before putting my nachos together, with the same gloves. Still I thought these nachos were pretty bomb overall and would definitely want to come back to try their tacos and burritos.
