I recently stopped by Hood River Taqueria for lunch and ordered a Crazy Burrito with carne asada. I thought the burrito was pretty good overall. The guacamole was great. The red sauce was okay, but not my favorite. It tasted a lot like the red sauce from Del Taco. The rice and beans were great. It was hard to judge the salsa or carne asada since there didn't seem to be much of either of those. The ambiance was super cute. I loved the huge patio with tons of outdoor seating. The server was polite, and even asked me if I needed a fork, which I did. The location is great, especially if you are visiting for river based activities. It's maybe about a mile away from the waterfront, and close to a lot of other Hood River businesses. Overall, even though it wasn't my favorite wet burrito of all time, I had a good lunch here and I'm glad I checked this place out. read more

After long day of driving and hiking and laughing, after a long weekend of the same, we needed tacos and guac and chips and horchata. We didn't know what this place would be, But it was Sunday night after 7 and there weren't a lot of options. My wife and I rolled up to this place and parked across the street. I knew straight away that this would be legit. In a booth inside was a team of painters with modelos and a variety of plates. I went to wash my hands and the bathroom was clean as it should be. A large family was at the table near us, enjoying a cool early spring evening on the spacious patio. The guac was spot on, and the chips were great. The red sauce on my wife's enchilada was probably from a can. Bummer. But her fish taco was pretty good. I ordered a chicken tamale that was maybe the best I ever ate, along side an al pastor taco. We had an excellent meal here after a long day of hiking. Much of the food was made from scratch, including the tortillas, which were absolutely fabulous. The outdoor patio was perfect, and we really appreciated that our dog was welcome to join us. Came here for dinner last night and was immediately seated in a nice spot outdoors. Our server was very nice and on top of it with taking our order and providing refills for our waters. The food was fantastic I had the spicy chicken plate, my husband had steak tacos. We inhaled our food and absolutely loved the condiments they provided with our meal. The red pepper sauce is something I could drink, it's not spicy but gives so much flavor and depth to the food. The verde sauce has a nice clean flavor that brightens any bite. Lively spot for casual Mexican food with lots of outdoor seating and always a crowd! Started with a mango margarita and asked for spicey to cut down on the sweetness. Even with a diced jalapeno. The frank was too sweet. Made with a mix rather than fresh juice, it literally crested that tinge of pain behind my ears! Does anyone else get that? I couldn't drink it. Bummer. Chips were on the thicker side and yay for not too salty. The salsa was also thick and mild. We tried the carnitas tacos. Fried pork topped wth some quacamole as well as cilantro and onions. Good, but not as good as the many taco trucks around town. Dinner was a chicken enchilada, again dry, and an exceptional Chile relleno. Fried in a light batter and stuffed with cheese, served melting with a delicious green tomatillo sauce, I'd go back just for this! Service is friendly. They hand you a menu and you can choose your own table. Picnic tables and tables for 2 or 4 are scattered on the garden patio under a huge tree. Pots of bright annuals decorate the fence. Overall, a good experience but had to drop a star for the margarita. While large, just too much sweet syrup, and a margarita is the main reason I'm here! read more

Super authentic Mexican food. The menu has a ton of options with something for everyone. I got the carne asada plate and tried some of the tamales that my parents ordered. Everything was deeeeeeeeeliciouuuuus and so impressive. Oh yeah and the portions are big. They have a lot of alcohol options and amazing looking margaritas. Overall the Hood River Taqueria is a very nice spot for a quick lunch. If you're in town I would recommend getting something here! I had the crane asada burrito dry (I prefer holding my burritos), and my friend got the carne asada tacos and enjoyed them as well! The food was tasty and came out quick. Their patio under the trees was a nice setting under a clear blue sky on a pleasant sunny day. The service was friendly and fast. The food, however, was fair to good. As I've said in other reviews of Mexican restaurants the first clue of what to expect in the overall meal are the chips and salsa. (By the way, this is an American/gringo thing because you don't get chips in Mexico. You get a type of bread with a bean dip or marinated veggies). But I digress and, since I'm here in the good ol' USA, I found the chips here were not homemade and, although the very mild and watery salsa may have been, it lacked any real flavor. I had to ask for something with a little more kick and they brought out two other versions - one in a red/ketchup bottle and the other in a yellow/mustard bottle. Both were much better so be sure to ask. Ordered a Torta which had more lechuga than carne asada in a roll that was not very fresh. Disappointed, but the red/yellow bottles helped provide some seasoning and flavor. The fajita salad was better but no wow factor, either. So, all in all, not a bad experience but will try some other places nearby next time I'm in Hood River. read more

Stopped here for lunch while visiting Hood River. It's housed in a little house and it's nicely decorated in Mexican decor. The front yard is transformed into an outdoor seating area and it's very large. My husband and I both ordered two beef Carne Asada tacos. While they don't use hamburger, the meat was dry as dust. We had to drown the tacos in sauce to make them palatable. On the bright side, I had a house margarita and it was very good. My husband had an IPA that he enjoyed. They do give you chips and salsa. The chips didn't have any salt at all I don't believe but the salsa was tasty. We rented a house in Hood River and the owners recommended this place as the best Mexican food in the gorge. I think that's a bit of a stretch but I wouldn't recommend not trying it as maybe other fare on the menu is better than our tacos. The service was friendly and fast. read more

Tasteless food. Even the tortilla chips needed salt! Flat tasting Mango margarita. I couldn't detect a hint of booze, so it was really a fruit smoothie. I had the Al pastor taco, nothing special. The ceviche tostada was mostly lime juice, barely any cilantro, and zero fresh minced jalapeño. My guy had a combo plate and said it lacked flavor also. Churros were slightly oily and underdone. I ordered the fish taco and it wasn't seasoned at all. The tortilla was also cold and the whole taco was just tasteless and bland.

We use to come here for a reasonably priced meal. However recently we had the experience of sticker shock. 3 adults 2 children. (5 and 1) $9 for beans and rice for the kids. A small plate of beans and rice for $9.00! Adults had a chicken Quesada, 2 tacos and salad bowl. We ended up paying $70. No drinks. just water! This is the last time we will come here. My partner and I stumbled upon this place in Hood River while on a fun day trip out of Portland. I saw the sign and the beautiful painted mural next to it and was like "BABE LET'S GO THERE". I'll keep this short and simple but here goes. The food is amazing, the portions are generous, the service is to the point and gets you your meal in a timely manner and lets you eat in peace. The service was very friendly and kind with all requests! The portions are more than reasonable for the cost. For a group of four, we split an order of fajitas, and a combo order that had an enchilada and a chile relleno. It was the perfect amount of food and was very affordable for the portions. Their drinks were very affordable too! We had house margaritas all around which were a good price. The fajitas were well seasoned and cooked well. The enchilada was great and overall we had no complaints. Would love to come back here and try some of the others menu items. Definitely recommend whatever you get to have steak be the protein. The chips and salsa were tasty as well! They did something I thought was really smart which was refilling the salsa with a pitcher, saving on dishes and making it faster process overall. Something I am surprised other restaurants do not do. Last note, they have two other hot sauces that are available by request! If you like spice, they are definitely worth asking for! read more

I will give the staff 5 stars for excellent service, but the food is okay. The meat from the carnitas tacos was somewhat dry, so I had to add salsa to it to give it a bit of flavor. Someone left a review saying that the chips were like Amazon cardboard boxes, but they were actually pretty fine. They may just need a touch of salt. However, I wasn't too sure about the beans. They have a bit of an orange color, which can look unappealing to some, including myself. read more

I really liked it. It's a friendly place that actually gives you the kind of felling of a real (Hispanic) Mexican street dinning. If you ever gone to Mexico and ate I one of those little mom and pop, family dining, You'll know what I mean. The food is pretty darn good. I'm picky very picky when it comes to Mexican foods. My mother and grandma Nena have over 150 years of some of the finest cuisine (Mexican food) I've been blessed to be raised within some of that time. I'd go again. read more
